I love how just a couple of mods can change 16 years old game into still legitimately good looking game and yet keep its original charm

True of Skyrim mods too, though it's not that old.

@athlon Damn, I'll have to dive into my archive today... I got that game, but only on a DVD...

@ilPinguino I had it on CDs (there was 3 of them), but the first one is so scratched due to how much I played the game, that it won't even start. Bought the game again on Steam on Black Friday. Although it's missing the original 1930's soundtrack, there is a mod which restores it.

Also, if you wanna play through that game again (like me), I recommend to download the Community Modpack... But remember to configure one of those mods, because by default it sets render distance to 5500 which was effectively reducing my FPS to like... 2 FPS? Set it to 1500 and everything works smooth.

@athlon I used to develop a small mod for it (Increased Gas Usage)...
And in case you haven't, try Freeride Supreme by Darren, it's one of the most awesome mods ever developed for M1.

@ilPinguino most awesome? I remember Ikarus Mod, Mission Pack, Modern Mod, Cosa Nostra, Commision Mod, Alive Mod, City Bars... Oh, and the legendary Resident Evil mod!

@athlon Okay, I missed a couple of those... Back when I last checked, modern mod was still highly unstable... It probably made some progress since then though...

@ilPinguino Well to be frank, Modern Mod is kinda mixed bag. Some cars are very well detailed, while others are literal clusterfuck.

Anyway, I was also thinking about installing Real Facing Mod, but I wanted to keep that original look at the same time, so I sticked with just the retexture.

I am from the Czech Republic where this game was originally made, and the Czech language is just so good, the insults and everything... I love every bit of it

@h4rry5lol as a Pole, the Czech language sounds way too funny. I mean, gangsters saying “kurva!” is making me laugh 😂

And yes, I know the game was made in Czech Republic. More precisely by Illusion Softworks (now 2K Games), directed by Daniel Varva.

@athlon Like the Czechs have the most creative insults I know, you dont find it in any other language IMO. Mafia 1 was great, Mafia 2 was good enough but quite short. And Mafia 3 is disaster sadly. :(

@h4rry5lol just listen to the polish insults ;)

I just prefer to listening to Mike Sorvino as Tommy’s voice. Mafia 2 was lacking in the story. Tom was just more likable than Vito.

Mafia 3 wasn’t even made by Czech studio, but by American Hangar 13...

Morale? Never let Americans takeover good game series

How I miss having fun with those old-school games! That was back in the day, when all we had to do was find the extra life or power-up hidden in the pixelated landscapes. These days, using game boosting at https://boosters.gg/ is like contrasting a trustworthy horse with a turbocharged rocket!
