Jeff Bezos is now the wealthiest person the planet. Not in history, like an incorrect article I read. Shortlist of wealthier historical figures (certainly, given inflation) : Mansa Musa/Malian kings of same lineage, The British Monarchy for approx 1000 years, Roman Caesars, Lorenzo D'Medici, Francesco Borgia. The list goes on...

Whats actually troubling besides the fact that a well known publication would print something so historically inaccurate, is that the wealthy of today can only properly be compared to monarchs, warlords, and god-kings. THAT, is a terrifying reality.

Damn... must be nice to have that business trade online.. I guess the main ingredient in success is online trade, loved by the population, and trending. If you can coordinate those and be able to put it up online and in mobile.. I bet it would be something big...

Why is that terrifying? It should be comforting that one can become the wealthiest person in the world without using violence (at least not overtly).

@spongessuck I think it's a terrifying principle a private individual can accumulate the wealth that only a nation was previously able to achieve. It says something pretty significant about the wealth gap. Funnily enough, it's almost an inverse of the merchant class, and the last time wealth was distributed this unevenly in Western history was prior to the Renaissance. Which as I'm sure you know, was driven by the expansion of the Middle class.

You're right in saying he isn't overtly violent, but Amazon is pretty well known for how poorly they treat low level employees. And they've innovated entirely new ways to avoid paying your workers any kind of benefits ever. So some level of abuse, if not violence is a primary factor in their success. In all fairness I think you do make a decent point. I think the flipside is still seriously concerning though.
