There's nothing quite like coming in to work and finding your 2TB disk filled to capacity with symlinks. 2TB of symlinks.

Someone encoded the ol' Reddit switcheroo into your filesystem?

I didn't even know symlinks took disk space, I'm so sorry

So... Billions of symlinks? Or even more maybe

@stevemk14ebr oooh, you thought that the magic unicorns kept track of symlinks? Sorry to disappoint ya.
Symlinks carry information, so they have a size. This information has to be stored somewhere, and "somewhere" is in the filesystem, so on a "disk".

@TempestasLudi I am aware of information theory. Considering they are designed to save disk space it just seemed odd, thinking about makes sense of course

    Yay!
I'm sorry I may have sounded a bit offensive. Grumpy mood or something.

Oh wow, it’s like running out of inodes, got tricked twice already (ok in ~15 years) where writes don’t work anymore but disk says 50% full

Symlinks? They weight nothing. Are you sure u r not out of inodes instead?

You have changed my mind. There is such a thing as too many symlinks.
