    Thank you for sharing that. Didnt know an open source solution existed.

    How?? I've been trying to do that for ages, but they're never convinced.

    @Michelle it was easy show him the app.
    He is into privacy too

    @Haxk20
    Mine doesn't lol.

    @irene
    There's nothing wrong with a relieving sense of privacy.

    @irene android will propably listen somehow. But even so, signal won't analyze your conversation-(meta)data for personal ads. One data leak down, 99 to go.

    @irene yes, i though it would help if i pointed out signal is not the problem here. You never know how well you get your point across.

    @Michelle when i tried to convince people i got to hear "i already have all my friends on whatsapp, including you"... but i will delete whatsapp soon, and those guys have to use signal/discord or say goodbye to me

    @irene or not existing at all 🙄

    @irene that goes too far imo. It's true, the internet is a giant data-incest that rivals a cage filled to the brim with hamsters, but there still exists something like privacy. Whatsapp was unencrypted for a long time and everybody, including a boored roommate. Nowadays it's e2e and only a whatsapp/android-backdoor can break that (or phone theft). That ought to be enough for the average joe, and for the paranoid there is signal on lineage.

    Privacy for me is the awareness where my data will end up. When i use signal my isp will see and thats ok, but if my phone "backs up" my files without consent i get angry.

    @irene You can't know that for sure and whether one wants privacy or not in this day and age is their right :)

    signal safe; lol.

    Check out demonsaw, or the soon to be released Contact app for Promether. <https://promether.com> <https://demonsaw.com>

    And yet Signal now requires Google Services, not too sure on the metadata privacy.
    I miss RedPhone times :/

    @irene god damnit, do you want me to make a phone out of a pi to prove my point?

    I mean you have great conversation here but i will just say.

    Yes signal is for people that want privacy as much as they can (+ My love for lineageOS).

    Yes ofcourse it isnt totally fucking secure.

    But even a fucking toaster isnt.

    People made it do some crazy stuff via powercord. (No it wasnt smart toaster just an ordinary toaster.)

    In this world you cant be sure who is spying on you. Or what they are doing. Its just fucking impossible to live life without somebody reading your messages with your 1 friend.

    But you know signal is good enough.

    And @linuxxx will totally agree with me right ????

    Its just impossible to archive 100% privacy.

    I just go with MicroG for other bullshit that does need Google Services so fuck off with that. (Yes my ROM is modified build since LineageOS doesnt support some required stuff of it).

    I hope i dont need to say words like TOR,proxy or VPN here.

    And for those android geeks out there. YES i build the ROM from LineageOS sources and added few patches to make it more boooom.

    Signal isn't an alternative to Facebook, by the looks of it. It would be more apropos to say you've found an alternative to Google Hangouts or Skype.

    @pacohojaverde You know what. OK. Whatever. Here some ++ to make better day.

    It also depends on what you're trying to conceal. I can put secret stuff in an encrypted 7-Zip archive and nobody between my device and the receiver can read it. Hard drives can be full-drive encrypted and tied to a TPM. If it's browsing, there are open source browsers, VPNs that don't give out logs to authorities, encrypted certificate authorities, encrypted DNS providers, and open source operating systems that run from RAM. @irene also makes a fair point when she points out "third party". I do believe that you can achieve 100%, but I also believe it would be temporary. Given enough time, talent, or resources, your walls WILL come down. That's why security is such a moving target, you can't get comfortable in your castle. I always tell people that if they want to maximize their security, go where there's no electricity!
