Company asked me to ditch the recruiter and hire direct to save them the recruiter's fee. I think I'm gonna say no to that even tho the role is perfect. Your thoughts?

If he wants to dispute the recruiters involvement and fees he’s perfectly at liberty to do so, but if you lie you are then fucked if the recruiter makes a legal challenge and your boss will land you right in it. Do not lie for him.

If a company is this sneaky with recruiters, what makes you believe they won't be sneaky with you when they hire you?

I'd say it's a big red flag, they might do the same thing to you for whatever reason they can find - "er, sorry, who are you and why should we pay you?"
