    Wait what? You mean you don't need a job and your username is a lie? What is this bs.

    I've heard tuple pronounced "tupple."

    And the worst on: gif being pronounced as "jif" lol

    I am guilty of calling it a “gooey”.

    Screw you.

    I have an awesome gooey for my sequel database

    @D--M it’s gooey, but it’s not sequal, I can’t stand sequel that’s S.Q.L

    Every engineer in history pronounced GUI that way.
  • 7
    @FrodoSwaggins and those who don't are egged until they say it correctly.
  • 7
    @Root the tradition of pronouncing GUI this way dates back thousands of years to ancient Roman times. We’re not going to change it for young engineers just because they have computers and shit

    @FrodoSwaggins
    Ad operantur in illo GUI, servi! πŸ˜‚

    I just realised I say all of the things people have complained about in this comment thread.
    Fight me.

    I’m guilty of this too, but I see no ambiguity. Maybe we need a linguistics expert to guide us.
  • 3
    @qdsp13 I’ll fight you but it’s not because I think you’re wrong; I just like fighting

    That has been pronounced that way since forever though

    Anyone hear SQL as "su-kl"?
  • 2
    @silverstar Fuck whoever says that.

    It's either S-Q-L or sequel.

    Not that bullshit.

    I sometimes pronounce it as "skwl" when I'm onboarding interns to see who's paying attention or cares enough to listen to me.

    I don't like "gooey" interfaces. It reminds me of someone dropping a donut frosting side down onto their keyboard.

    @Stuxnet haha welcome to the real world. Do you think all people with female avatar are really female? Lol

    @NeedAJob Was a joke lol

    But I did for a few months when I first got here.

    I now know otherwise

    Can't name them, but when I was studying a lot of the books I came across would say something like 'GUI (pronounced gooey)'. Hated hearing my prof say it like that but when I started seeing it in books I decided to just go with it.

    @RantSomeWhere
    - Squuel (SQL)
    - Failzille (FileZilla)
    - Diangoo (Django)
  • 1
    @RantSomeWhere Listed how those things were being pronounced in my previous workplace.... annoyed the shit out of me every time.

    I like the Dzhengo one - I'm gonna start calling it that from now on.
