I was so fucking annoyed by all of those "tx eu" reposts that Ive just reported all rants of the last day that included a little bit of politics. One rant about a subject is fine, but. Dont have to see 20 rants on the same subject, if all you have to add is a word or 5 or less make it a comment on the rant above or underneath yours which has the exact fucking subject.

And while reporting I found out its possible to report your own rants, so I did, even though it was on a completely different subject I cant report people for talking politics and not include myself.

@xzvf: Since you didnt post a rule reminder about it like you did last time and even upvoted some of the political rants I thought it was wise to tag you in here as well

    Well, you reposted my rant soo

    @Linux no? It had the same content but it was about a different topic see tags and comments.
    I also but it under random and not rants like the reposts.
    And as I said: since it was also political I did report it as well since Im not a hypocrite like some other users...

    @Codex404

    Lol yeah I just saw :)
    I have disabled notifs and just dont use devrant that often anymore so I miss alot
  • 1
    @Linux I also dont have notifs, but if you scroll a minute down there is at least 20 rants find about article 13.. All political thus against the guidelines.

    Ive been thinking in leaving for a week now, but there are a few people who I will miss when I leave, kinda want to stay in contact with them.

    @Codex404
    Yeah I completely lost the fun with devrant a couple of month ago when some "big" dude decided to troll and got busted - and started to throw a tantrum like a fat kid.
    I actually dont know why I am still here and why I am paying for the black theme.

    @Codex404
    Btw, there is a couple of us ranters over at telegram (CodrTalk) and on my tiny Mastodon instance.

    Feel free to join.

    Calm down, it’s a big current event. Also, I thought it was clear - rants involving legislation/politics directly relating to tech/dev are allowed. So you’re just spreading fake info. The rule hasn’t changed and nothing about it is hypocritical. You’re literally just ignoring the point rule because you dislike it.

    @dfox explain to me what copyright has to do with tech?
    Copyright existed before computers did, this is about the same tech level as the gay marriage thing. I havent read the complete law text but from what Ive seen it is Article 17 which is more tech related, but the parts I read on that isn't stating the way things are shared. Uploading is an example given by a lot of news outlets but, as far as Ive read, it also applies to me sending it through mail.

    I really dont see a difference. I dont see how its spreading fake data? Politics isnt allowed and I have never seen an exception in the rules for tech related politics.

    From my point of view people measure with two standards, which is the definition of hypocrisy.

    I dont mind a few political rants, I do mind having my feed flooded with the exact same rant which is against the rules. And because I am not a hypocrit I also reported my own rant, cant blame people for dont following the rules when i do the same.

    @Codex404 lol come on. Something that impacts every online community (like devRant) and could shape the future of online content has as much relevance as gay marriage laws? You sound ridiculous.

    I agree, there’s a lot of them. Just like any current event regarding tech. It’ll die down in a couple of days.

    @dfox gay marriage is one of the most important wins for equal rights for every human being, basic human rights which also influences online communities like devRant and how people interact with eachother. This was a big win to let the world know that everyone should be treated equal, something which isnt even there yet for male/female programmers let alone religion or sexuality. There are multiple charities which fight for equal treatment for all developers. Having a country with a few religions who are heavily against gay marriage will help their cause quite a bit.

    Both laws are indirectly related to developers.

    .

    And Im currently looking for the rules again but I dont find them anywhere.

    @Codex404 look, I get it. This issue is important to a lot of people. But that doesn’t change the facts. We can’t deal in emotion on things like this. The rule is there for a reason and it’s not meant to go away when people feel extra passionately about an issue non-related to tech. You can keep saying it, but it’s simply not dealing in reality. Gay marriage is not a tech/dev issue specifically. Yes, it impacts everyone. Lots of issues do. Put it this way - I have to use devRant more than anyone. If the app became an advocacy forum like you’re making it out as it should be, I wouldn’t be able to use it anymore and I’m certainly not the only one. That’s Facebook and that’s why I don’t use Facebook anymore. The last thing the internet needs is another forum for political advocacy.

    On the other hand, I, and others, specifically come on devRant fully expected, and wanting, to hear opinions on stuff like GDPR and article 13. Those things impact my life as a developer (both on side projects and in my career) a lot and that’s what this app is for.

    We’re a dev community. We allow some other stuff because the community has asked for it. Based on the feedback we’ve gotten in the past, the majority has absolutely no interest in politics advocacy here. We treat everyone equally here and that’s what matters to me - no discrimination in this community against sexualities, race, etc. But I’ve never advocated for any political issue here and I don’t plan to. It’s a no-win situation the second we do.

    The rules are here, and it’s clearly stated that politics about dev/tech are allowed: https://devrant.com/rules

    @dfox hmm I stand corrected on the rules then, cant exactly remember what the rules where when I joined. Can the rules be found in the app?

    In that case I suggest making a politics rant which can be filtered out completely or if there has been another rant in the last two hours with the same tags as a rant you are making adding a warning that there might be a rant on that subject already.

    @Codex404 I think we’ve discussed before making some kind of “current events” type which would probably cover more stuff.

    We can make the rules more prominent and probably should, but right now they are linked to on the homepage of our website. But realize, in the cases where people posted the political posts we’re referring to here, no one was scolded or anything. They were simply informed of the rule in a polite way. When I informed them, I did not delete the posts and didn’t plan to. They deleted them on their own. I there was no penalty or negativity, just merely pointing out a rule which they didn’t like. Noting I can really do about them being upset about that so honestly I don’t really feel bad at all.

    @dfox Ive used webdevrant twice, once to register and once while my phone died. So I think it should be more prominent indeed.
