My mom wrote software for oldschool BBS systems in a language called FoxPro... So while she "gets it," she doesn't REALLY get it.

It's this weird state of cocky "I was wtiting code before you were born" mixed with "in a language that has been obsolete since the dinosaurs went extinct" mixed with "you have it easy, I had to code uphill, both ways, in the snow!"

you lucky bastard, does she still program, modern languages included?

My mum programmed computers with punch cards. She has never really checked out modern computing languages.

When asking her how they did it, she told me that they made up their plans, made their punch cards and scheduled a slot to test their code on the computer which they were allowed access to one per week.

Can you imagine only testing your code once per week?

@purged I have written some apps in Foxpro (mostly at my university) and yet I don't see myself as a dinosaur. Or am I...?🤔

@leviathan07 Oh yes, she's actually a professor. She can teach any language. I'm very lucky to have her. A professor by day, mother by night lol
