Well its here. Linux 5.0 amazing. And yes I was up all night to just compile it as fast as I could.

    How'd I know this was you before even looking

    @lxmcf I wonder how, I wonder why
  • 3
    @lxmcf because only I do post this type of stuff.
  • 3
    @Haxk20 exactly, also is it just me or are the current/planned changes and features of 5.0 not actually worth jumping a full version?

    I would say it would justify a 4.3 but I can only see 3 'major' additions and the biggest being out of the box freesync

    When arch release will be?
  • 2
    @lxmcf its surely worth it. Men copy is 20x faster. In some cases tho.
  • 4
    Totally not compiling it right now.

    @lxmcf isn't a single breaking change all it takes?
  • 1
    correct me if i'm wrong, but i understood in this major version bump, again, there are no breaking changes at all

    @lxmcf "If you want to have an official reason, it's that I ran out of fingers and toes to count on, so 4.21 became 5.0" - Linus Torvalds

    Looks like he doesn't care a lot about the version numbers as long as they go up a bit over time.

    @deadlyRants This oddly makes me feel better about it...

    @deadlyRants Yes we all knew 4.21 will be 5.0 because he didnt want to go over 20. But we needed to know it officially.

    Running it from 5 am and its great.

    What will happen after kernel version 20.20? Overflow?
  • 4
    @mngr 1.0.0 :')
  • 3
    @Haxk20 we had to have 5.0.1-rc directly after 4.19 was released. But I suppose it’s a sin to miss 420

    Even Linus himself says its nothing special that deserves making a big thin out of it. Just ongoing stuff from 4.20. Nice number indeed but that's it :)
