    Where?

    Bandwidth?

    It is important to know the internet connection details when you are e.g. a chat bot on such a vps. Oh and the location of the vps.

    Contabo?

    So... Is it cheap for you?

    @gitlog do you know a better hosting buddy? I'm looking for
  • 2
    @dmcory sorry I tend to use dynamic DNS/free credits

    I just am not aware of general hosting price

    @linuxxx yes.
    @-ANGRY-CLIENT- Location seems to be Germany. Unlimited bandwidth.
    @gitlog cheaper than other offers I’ve seen.

    What about the bad reviews that Contabo is getting? Many people complaining about their VPS/account getting terminated for no reason and with no warning, or support being completely unresponsive (though I've seen similar reviews for Aruba, yet I've never had issues with Aruba, so idk)

    @endor worth a shot. You're taking a risk everywhere for that price as they only care about the masses. Just back yo shit up and if it goes down sucks to be you, it was a good cheap run.

    @n3xus I mean, if it's that unreliable then I might as well go for the more expensive option in the first place. The only use I can see for unreliable services would be ephemeral nodes in a network, which I wouldn't care for if they went down.

    @endor I see a lot of low tier small sites or servers where it doesn't matter if it's out a few days using weird providers 9 times out of 10 they're fine. Every VPS provider I've had has had some kind of huge mishap with at least one of my clients these include OVH Digital Ocean and even GCP. Not as big as a deleted account but just a nice way to say they all suck in some way ;)

    @n3xus yeah that's true. I've been using Aruba for over a year for small projects, and haven't had a single hitch.
    I'm just kinda bummed because I was looking for a reliable solution to use as a data backup, and 5€/mo for 200GB ssd (and decent cpu+ram too) would be a godsend for me.
    But I guess the best solution is still the one you build yourself, when it comes to private data backups (assuming you know what you're doing)

    @endor GCP storage buckets are dirt cheap or use Google drive cli if you aren't too security oriented.

    @n3xus thanks, I'll give it a look

    I gave it a look... It's too nice to be true 😳

    Why is hosting so cheap in Germany? That's like the third provider I've seen offering ridiculous deals.

    @Charon92 our internet laws may suck, but apparently we are also dirt cheap.

    @endor Same here, been using their small tier (€1.21 tax included) on my 3 servers there, haven't had a single hiccup with them so far. One of my servers is currently going for a 80+ days system uptime there, and on the other 2 (where I've had 2 years of service uptime) I had only the need to do scheduled reboots on them on a monthly basis. All scheduled, never an emergency. I'm very happy about their service given the price point. Apparently they automated most of their infrastructure, and that's the reason why they're so cheap.. I bet that their network's spam reputation in RBL's plays a part too... Mostly polished that up on my mailers though.

    Cheap AF hosters should be regarded with caution, but they can do things right and be a good consideration in some cases! Hosting is a very competitive business, so it definitely makes sense for cheap hosters like this to pop up.
