    How to overclock monitor?
  • 3
    @irene on some older 4:3 monitors you can higher the refresh rate I think. At least I can rise mine from 60Hz to 75Hz too.

    Edit: I just realized that my newer hdmi monitor has a mode with reduced resolution but higher refresh rate too
  • 2
    @b3b3 Yeah lower res higher Hz. But i said fuck to it and pushed it step further. 75Hz on native res. What could possibly go wrong
  • 3
    @MrBob Nope. Its interestingly stable and cool. GPU on 60C and cpu on 40C. I mean not bad
  • 1
    @irene Radeon settings. Disable EDID info. Select max Hz to 75. Select 75Hz in windows. Done. Will do the same on Linux but need to install it first. IDK how to overclock GPU on Linux tho.
  • 2
    But i mean 75hz looks fucking amazing. I cant wait for 120Hz panel for my laptop. Ohhhh it will be amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 2
    @Haxk20 It IS not bad. Now I'm struggling with a 70c NAS cpu cooling problem uh :( I think I f* it too much though (downloading files from my net disk using 32 threads, at the same time streaming 4K from it haha)

    @b3b3 Ouuuu and i forgot this is 16:10 1600x1050
  • 2
    @MrBob Ouuuuu fuck. I mean i will run this mad shit only for a month or so till i get my laptop back at which point i will hopefully never touch this PC again as it sucks. Twitch uses 100% CPU.

    @-ANGRY-CLIENT- Yup twitch usage of 100% CPU. I mean WTF does twitch do ? Funny is that on my lappy CPU usage is 5-10% in twitch. After RAM upgrade even less. So this sucks.

    @Haxk20 haven't found those settings. Probably my monitor is too basic
  • 0
    @irene You have AMD GPU ? Either way you can still look add manual mode in Linux and use that. Done it and it works.
  • 1
    @Haxk20 yes, i have rx580 and radeon settings don't show anything about display overclocking
  • 0
    @irene There is no option that says to overclock it. You have to disable EDID info and then add custom mode so that you can select the mode in windows. then you are done. There are millions of guides on internet how to do it on windows. its even easier on linux.
  • 1
    @Haxk20 I see no "disable edid info" either.
  • 1
    @irene AHHHHHHHHHH. FFS Wait i will search the internet for you

  • 1
    @irene Dont change anything else just the refresh rate.
  • 1
    @Haxk20 oh, that is how... Why haven't you said I just need to use "custom resolution"? 😑
  • 1
    @irene Well i used the old version of radeon settings since my GPU on PC is old as fuck. So on there it was disable edid and add custom mode.

    @Haxk20 oh, I see 🤔
  • 1
    @irene Im using my old PC since laptop is in repair. Laptop has RX560X but this shit has HD5450

    @Haxk20 24" 144Hz monitor with free-sync is even better :P
  • 1
    @Haxk20 oh by the way, what cpu, gpu and ram does it have? :D I have an old PC somewhere at home with single core Intel P4 clocked at 3.06GHz, 4GB of what ever the fuck is that memory, probably DDR2, some WD 80GB IDE HDD, another 100GB WD IDE HDD(+ 1 other 40GB HDD that I don't remember what brand it is), D-Link WiFi card (supporting 802.11g and speeds up to 54Mb :D) and an Ati Sapphire Radeon HD x1650 Pro 512MB(that runs at a cool 110°C at full load in the summer) - an 8x AGP card, in a 4x AGP slot on a motherboard(MSI but I forgot the model number) that supports 256MB of VRAM at max. :D, paired with a flat CRT screen that runs at 85Hz at some silly high resolution and of course a 500W 80+ bronze fsp hexa psu for a good measure

    @Haxk20 that setting doesn't work for me. I've created a new resolution but it's nowhere to be found to activate.

    @irene do you know where to change refresh rate in windows ? Its not in normal settings. I'm in school rn. Will write with steps when I get back.

    @bytecode AMD athlon II X2 250 with ATI radeon HD5450 and 6gb RAM overclocked to 1600Mhz. CPU running at stock speeds as I can't figure out how to oc it and GPU pushed to the total max power without HW mods.
  • 1
    @Haxk20 in the properties of the display device. At least it's one of the places. And there are only default ones from display.
  • 0
    @irene Interesting. This worked for me. I guess that refresh rate is too much
  • 1
    @Haxk20 maybe. My monotor is pretty basic despite having height adjustment and pivot. It has no adaptive sync as well 😒
  • 0
    @Haxk20 that's actually pretty good :o
  • 0
    @bytecode Good ????? You kidding right ? Im using this only cause my Ryzen 5 2500U and RX560X laptop is in repair. Will not touch this when i get lappy back.
  • 0
    @Haxk20 not kidding :)

    @bytecode I mean this HW is terrible for me right now. Cant do anything on it. Im used to fast and snappy system after 5 months of using my lappy and this surely isnt snappy at all. GNOME and games lag like crazy. MESA takes 30 minutes to compile while on my lappy its matter of 2 minutes. Kernel oh boy i havent tried to build a full kernel. Only a small kernel for my phone and that took 30 minutes which again is matter of 2 minutes or even less on lappy.

    @Haxk20 try using xfce, lxde or OpenBox - Gnome is probably too heavy, I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with Unity on that old PC of mine and it runs ok... but I mostly only use it via SSH

    @bytecode Nah. I mean GNOME is usable. So i will just run with it until i get lappy back.
