Why the fuck does this wave of pessimism, paranoia, existential dread and intrusive thoughts keep hitting me in the evening every single day.
Like, make it stop. I want to fucking rest.

I try to sleep it off.
Sleeping for 12-16 hours since Monday I think I’ll be back to normal next week.

@irene I sleep like 13-14 hours during the weekends, it’s fucking crazy.

@RantSomeWhere exactly. you sleep only on weekends.

@irene nah. I sleep every free minute I can afford. And I still feel sleepy. Like, to the point where I drift off in midst of conversations and just daydream. I sleep a lot.

Try some meditation or exercise, that usually helps me

@jdebs meditation - I tried it. My brain keeps the bullshit churning, though. It’s like I cannot control my inner dialogue. It talks by itself.

Exercising - had a knee surgery a couple of months ago. I am slowly beginning to run again and I’m making good progress, but it’s so exhausting I usually go to sleep after 2 or 3 kilometers. Not in the best of shapes.

@RantSomeWhere I would recommend sticking with the meditation, don't let yourself be discouraged by feeling like you aren't "good at it", it's all about practicing. Some great youtube videos out there can help with guided sessions. It really helps me tune out my inner dialogue, especially when I start feeling the way you described above. Or you could try some yoga, I started doing that and it's kind of a nice balance between meditation and exercise.

That's why programmers like alcohol right?

@alexbrooklyn meh. It makes it worse.

how many hours are you sleeping consecutively? less than 5 will eat at you well before the weekend.

If your using stimulants during the day, addy, b12, excessive amounts of coffee, etc then your probably crashing at that point of the day and its making the mental strain even worse.

At the risk of being renamed "Bols59 Blood Sugar" I reckon if you ate a piece of fruit of a small bowl of pasta an hour before this happens, you may find its tentacles don't squeeze you as hard.

First of all, let me say that I'm in no way anything close to a docter (I think I wouldnt be here otherwise :P)

Have you had a lot of stress lately? The things you describe sound a lot like a docter told me when I was with a friend at the docter's office a while back (he had a burn-out)

When you are under a lot of stress for some extended period and you keep working/studying or doing really anything you dont feed like your body starts producing adrenaline. The adrenaline keeps your body going when you are tired. Keep doing this for several weeks and your body is getting used to the adrenaline and keeps producing it.

What happens when you try to rest after a stressful period? The adrenaline is still in your body and it will keep your head "on" all the time. It is hard to sleep because of this. Because you get tired your thoughts might get a bit pessimistic.

But, I'm not a docter. If it is really affecting your life, go see one!
