Something on devrant is obstructing downvotes.

I know that the downvote system on dR is pretty silly, but I noticed a thing a couple of weeks ago and was finally able to capture proof.

So, I downvote a rant. I reload the rant, the downvote is gone. It’s still downvoted for me, but the total score of the rant is 0. So I remove the downvote, the score of the rant is 1. Reload the rant again, the single upvote which seems to neutralize my downvote is gone. The score is back to 0.

What the fuck?!

    Can confirm, his happens to me in the same way.

    Math is hard and posts can’t go negative.

    @flake oh hi, jase.

    @flake you alright, man?

    Downvotes into the minus are still possible

    Not for me does not --, it just hides the rant for you. If you want to --, you have to choose offensive/spam. This fuckup is apparently intended.

    Nothing changed. Not for me is not effecting the score. Spam does effect the score. Not sure about the other options

    @Marl3x hey thats my post xD thanks for removing the name, though there was no need for it. Still appreciated though

    @Codex404 @electrineer yes, I'm marking said post as offensive/spam. It does that with both comments and rants. My downvote is instantly gone as soon as I refresh.

    I think the creators might have to overthink the downvote system at some point in the future, anyways. Perhaps they can look into it. My current suspicion is a bot that auto-upvotes posts with a negative score, but that might be just an irrational thought of mine

    @flake always, mate *high five*

    Hope that you'll have a great day tomorrow

    @RantSomeWhere my downvote to your post brings you to 0. A refresh and it stays on 0.I remove it and it gets back to 1.

    maybe someone else upvoted the same rant?

    @Coffe2Code tried the process several times. Same behavior every time

    @Codex404 hmm... interesting. Let me experiment a bit

    Yeah, it's happening at this.very moment and in this.very thread

    It would be nice if downvotes didn't inform the person who you downvoted..

    @Nanos what do you mean

    @RantSomeWhere

    Don't you get a notification when someone downvotes you ?

    I just downvoted your message, did you get a notification ?

    @flake are you sure you're alright? Your word salad is worrying me.

    Before refresh

    After refresh
  • 3
    @Nanos uuh, no. DevRant never notifies about downvotes, I think that's intented.
  • 2
    @dfox @trogus could you have a look?

    @flake

    Perhaps they upvoted it, and then changed their mind and downvoted it.

    @RantSomeWhere

    Oh good !

    I can rush around downvoting then without worrying about making new enemies !

    Not that I see much to downvote..
  • 1
    @TheWhiteWulfy thats exactly what I'm talking about!
  • 4
    @Nanos honestly, who cares. If they deserve a downvote, they deserve a downvote. It's nothing personal, it's just shitty content, reposts, miscategorized memes.

    @RantSomeWhere

    I find (Such as on Facebook..) if you downvote someone and they get to know about it, they hate you for the rest of their life and go out of their way to make life difficult !
  • 1
    @RantSomeWhere

    I don't take downvotes personally myself.

    It can be a useful guide at times if you say the wrong thing and don't realise it.

    Or suddenly find yourself with incompatible people !
  • 2
    @Nanos exactly! People take things that strangers say to them online way too seriously nowadays.
  • 2
    @RantSomeWhere I can't reproduce what happens on your gif. Expect when I choose Not for me. Maybe you have been -- hammering too much?

    @electrineer hmm... I don't think so. I discovered this oddity on my iOS device and captured this proof on a completely different phone running Android. So it's definitely not the app locally glitching out on me.
  • 2
    @RantSomeWhere different account as well?
  • 2
    @Codex404 no. I might just pull of a Jase and create a dummy account for testing purposes.
  • 2
    Just tested a bit, it appears that this does happen with positive scores as well. I.e. even if the score is higher than 0 and i downvote, my vote seems to be neutralized by an upvote after a refresh. I’m convinced that it’s a bug on dR’s side at this point. Tested across multiple devices and multiple accounts.

    Might open up an issue on GitHub later.
    CC: @dfox, in case he missed it.

    @RantSomeWhere

    That is one thing I dislike about Facebook, whilst it lets you create dummy accounts, they are limited, so you can't test everything without real accounts !

    I also used prefer the old dummy accounts you could give convincing names to, for spying on folk..

    Whilst modern options limit you to stupid names like 081341234098234.testaccount391842394 kinda stuff.
