I would like a formal ban on heavy smokers using computers.

For the sake of us repair people, take care of your damn hardware!

Yes, it is really gross to open a computer from a smoker. It puts brown tar and debris everywhere in there.

@Demolishun ...and this computer has been cleaned!

@Demolishun I have had some with fans that are stuck in place from the tar

This might be the first time ever I see a chassis intrusion switch in a computer.

While wording that sentence, I realized I've actually installed them in industrial equipment myself.

@electrineer it turns out that, while plugged in, it did nothing to the computer

@ewpratten maybe it shows up on post screen or maybe you can configure what it does in bios?

I worked on a computer that they complained the floppy drive was not working. We opened it up and it was so tightly packed with lint that the floppy drive mechanism could not move properly. Every space was full of lint that looked like clay. This was on an 8088 computer used in a hotel laundry for record keeping. It smelled really good though!

A co-worker of mine is such a heavy smoker that my girlfriend seriously asked me if I had smoked after pair-programming with him for just 2 hours.

@c64forthewin did he smoke while programming or did the stink just transmit?

@electrineer Fortunately, smoking is prohibited in our office, but he is such an extensive smoker that the stink indeed just transmitted
