Everyone should drop support for Internet explorer and Safari.

Change my mind.

    IE yes, Safari no

    Good luck with safari.
IE, I can agree unless it's enterprise still using ActiveX.

It would force Apple to get their shit together, I guess.

apple should follow the example of microsoft and switch to chromium.

Your time is limited so don't waste it dropping support of someone else's browser. -- Steve Apple

Agreed with yes for IE and no for Safari. I don't see anything wrong with Safari that would call for that. Do illuminate me on that though
  • 5
I agree on IE, too many edge cases.

Don’t stop there let’s also drop firefox and chrome and get back to usenet and bbs to end this marketing surveillance crap around.

@AleCx04 it used to be piss poor support on the level of IE, but they did improve since, though they are still the messiest and bug filthy browser to support, go to anything "modern" on caniuse and check the "known bugs" it'll almost always have safari listed somewhere, in ways that will only come biting you once you realize apple fucked up yet again.

@JoshBent ah shit i see. Thanks man

@torbuntu what if i want to change your mind about changing his mind??!

Our company uses the "only has to work in latest chrome" policy. If it works in IE or FF...great. If it doesn't oh well just use Chrome

@Demolishun I see what you did there 😏

The political answer is to not explicitly drop support, just say only you support standards-compliant browsers.

That will weed out IE by default. Safari stands a better chance of being standards compliant.

Also for the "we only support Chrome" crowd - do you remember in 2000 when everyone only supported IE? You'd better hope the Chrome developers don't get complacent like Microsoft did

@unsignedint Safari is as standards-compliant on latest iOS as is Chrome 55 on desktop.
Literally the same mistakes in height calculation.

    I still use Netscape Navigator

I can't get Safari to work without crashing..

Sometimes IE is the only browser a website will work in !

Rarely do I find a website that works flawlessly in Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and IE.

@heyheni No. More unification of rendering engines behind one company continues to let that one company have more standards leverage than it should.
  • 3
@heyheni please not even more Chromium based browsers, I'd rather not have a Chromium monopoly 😬

    @M1sf3t

I'm only using Safari on a PC. :-)

Maybe its not meant to actually work on that..

that's not really a controversial stance from which to ask people to try to change it
  • 3
And chrome. Make people stop using that cancer.
  • 1
Totally agree, can we add firefox and opera to the list as well?
  • 3
Let's all only support Netscape Navigator from now on
  • 1
    Already did, long time ago.
    Fuck these isoteric browsers.
