It's Monday morning and they still haven't restored the database.

They said they couldn't find the procedures. They all have a copy: I wrote the documentation myself.

My boss tried to cover for them but deleting the docs. They are under version control you idiots.

Time to search for a new job. This incompetence is going to be the death of me.

Did they turn it off and on again?

Did they give a reason for deleting the docs?
What is the point of doing that?

@C0D4 they have done precisely nothing all weekend. Restoring this particular database is a single command...

@SiinaCutie damn, what kind of dev doesn't know how to restore a db or google the shit out of what's wrong with it.

Guess you need a new job, let this pile burn.

@magicMirror the boss hired these people and covers up for their mistakes because he'll get fired for hiring friends instead of qualified people. So he deleted the docs to try and make their life seem truthful, not understanding how git works :')

@C0D4 Boss hired friends, not devs.

@SiinaCutie Why not mailing what has happened to the boss of your boss? If it's obvious that your direct boss doesn't know what he's doing, bypassing the hierarchie is in order.

@Fast-Nop He is the only boss. He owns this festering pile of bullshit. I have no idea why he had suddenly gone stupid, for he used to be quite great at this. Otherwise I would never have hired on.

@SiinaCutie mass mail generally works, add people higher up and call it out.

Also include the git commit from history that includes the docs needed and explain how X days have been wasted for what would take minutes to fix if anyone actually tried to do their job.

But be "professional" about it 😂

Got to love when people hire idiots, I make the idiots show their true colours.

Edit: I saw you're latest comment, just call the Bs out.

@C0D4 He is the owner of the business. In another reply I outlined this, and in hindsight should have mentioned in the rant.

@C0D4 I would have no idea how to restore a db2.. Nor to this day I know the whole procedure of restoring ora from arch logs :/ I guess I'm a poor dev :/

@SiinaCutie Uh ok but then his behaviour is even more stupid because he can't get fired anyway - whom would he hide things from?!
  • 6
@Fast-Nop His wife, I'm guessing. She's the accountant.
  • 5
@SiinaCutie OMG, what a configuration. Yeah if you wrote to her, then that boss would fire you for sure, if for nothing else then because of the argument he'd have with his wife.
  • 4
@SiinaCutie dumb. even if he did an amend+rebase, you still have your local git repo.
Wait untill the vacation is over, and then fix that dumpster fire.

Idiot boss hiring idiot friends... update your CV, and GTFO.

@Fast-Nop Yeah, and it's not worth being fired over, when I can easily just wrap up what I'm doing and leave.
  • 1
@SiinaCutie wouldn't you get a severance if you were fired?
  • 4
@netikras surely if push came to shove you would try and work it out though?
  • 2
    @C0D4 that is correct
  • 2
@netikras there you go, you be a good dev after all 😇
  • 1
    Are you still on PTO?
  • 2
@netikras Yeah. I wasn't really thinking about severance pay when I made that statement, haha.
  • 2
@Pyjong Yes, for a few more days. Gonna continue to let them sweat.

I've never seen a more appropriate meme - I'm sorry.

@C0D4 I feel that smug smile on a spiritual level

    @C0D4 Grads don't.
