Nearly, nearly ready to deploy self-hosted maps, fucking awesome!

Aaaand now comes the goddamn styling since these will be vector tiles..

I fucking hate designing/styling and I fucking suck at it too. 10 attempts which all pretty much look like shit.

Fucking great.

    Welcome to the club lol

Can't be worse than gmaps. Very pretty but show nothing at all. And to be honest, my Garmin gpsmap's styling looks like dog vomit, but it's very readable and useful, which is paramount

@epse I guess it depends on taste but I'd say Google maps looks nice in comparison 😅

@linuxxx yeah maps looks nice, but I find it borderline unusable often. If you want to go the maps way, just hide as much as possible

    Respect the designers!
Seriously, some are amazing and some of the css magic they perform is a nightmare to reproduce.

Most of the rest are useless hipsters, though.

@Stuxnet ah, img2css lol. Not gonna lie would have been more cool by hand lol

I can relate to that, having worked on offline HTML5 maps using Google Maps and OSM.

I'll suggest you to look (more) into OSM (not licensing and fee issues compared to GMaps).

@Berkmann18 Oh no worries, only the styling is left! I already took care of the tiles itself!

@ScribeOfGoD @Stuxnet Remember the scrolling/rotating coke can? That was also amazing.

How it worked was pretty simple, though, iirc: a mask, highlight/shadow, and displacement layers applied using background-position over an "unrolled" coke can texture.

Feels cheap when you know how it works. 😔

@Root It's like knowing how a magic trick works.... Ruins the fun lmao
