would someone be so kind as to explain why my cocksucking local retailer has priced these two processors at $500 when they're two generations apart

Intel® Core™ Coffee Lake i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz, 12Mb cache, Socket 1151 - 300 series

Intel® Core™ Skylake i7-6700K @ 4.0GHz, 8Mb cache, Socket 1151

    That happens a lot with smaller vendors who don't have cost management. It's the sunk cost fallacy. Retailers will buy a processor at a price and never lower the actual list because they'll lose money on it.

    Up until a few years ago there were antique AMD CPUs listing for $1500.

    @molaram
    Micro center does it from time to time with new old stock. Small and local to me is not multinational. E.g. microcenter, currys, Dixon's, etc
