That's because trash would be confusing as the whole mac is trash. Some even look like a trash can.

It used to be ‘wastebasket’ for English version pre OSX, they never bothered to check that only Sherlock Holmes and other fictional characters called it ‘wastebasket’. Bin is the correct word in England, but nobody really gives a fuck except for snowflakes and people who cut their own hair, even when not in a lockdown situation.
