    Oh, that’s interesting.

    Legit, fight me
    Its the worst

    Such compelling arguments!

    @RememberMe BFG 10,000 charing up
  • 5
    Yes, but to me, less than other OS platforms (kernel groups).

    @shakur took 30 seconds to boot
    Windows takes 10

    Cheaper? How? Just pirate windows, it's better than the official build anyways

    Not reliable at all. It crashes all the time, and the software crashes all the time too

    I agree. But at least, it works. 😛

    @shakur ok, not everyone has got tier hw, but I shouldn't have a 3000$ computer to comfortably use a system

    Booting from a sata hdd takes 30-35 seconds for Linux, and 10-15 seconds on windows, and I'm pretty sure times are gonna be similar to yours if I were to use an nvme ssd
  • 2
    @shakur you must be new to Linux 😛
  • 4
    @shakur oh, I know many who face driver issues for their hardware. You've got lucky!

    Also, arguably, Linux shoots itself in the foot more often than it should. It still may be better than windows, but that's a really low bar to set. Like, we really need better linux options.

    @shakur my PC costs 800$, to be fair it's old, but still runs modern games on windows at 50-60 fps. R9 290X. My pop OS Installation crashed every 4-5 minutes, and I couldnt get any games running on it because running wine caused my user to log out, and crash the system. I tried updating my drivers as per forum suggestions, but the driver installation script straight from AMD tells me

    error in amd-drivinstall
    Error code 1

    Or whatever, not even bothered to remember what exactly the message was
    I'm staying on windows and not making my life difficult for no reason
  • 3
    @shakur stop trying to convert the boy! 😛 He's comfortable with windows so let him be!
  • 2
    Yet we all love our phones so much...
  • 1
    @shakur that just proves my original point. Linux is not necessarily bad. It's annoying
    The annoyance is that you either have to be extremely lucky, or dance around your pc with a tambourine and give a goat sacrifice to make it work

    On windows you can expect it to work, on Linux it never will on the first try
  • 1
    @shakur and no thanks, I don't have too much need for Linux atm
  • 4
    This rant right here, officer!

    (I agree with you tho, but shhh, people here shouldn’t know)
  • 1
    @shakur windows suits all my gaming and development needs, the selection of tools for windows is good, a Linux embedded system exists, for all Linux exclusive tasks, and gaming performance is perfect. That's all I have to say
  • 5
    @shakur alright. I bet $10 you can't.
  • 1
    @shakur the only thing I'm planning on is moving to ryzen when I save up some more money

    (Note for the onlookers: gambling and betting is forbidden in islam)
  • 5
    Linux is morally objectionable due to the factory farming of penguins. Free them by opening Windows!
  • 2
    @NoMad In Islam, even chess counts as gambling. No wonder, given that the strongest rated player of Saudi-Arabia can't even keep up with a powerhouse like fucking Zimbabwe.
  • 3
    @frogstair dude you totally need to get PupOS! I've installed it on my old Pentium 4 with a Sapphire Radeon 9800, and it runs Crysis with a million fps! It's so fast it travels backwards in time, in other words it's already booted up before I press the power button!

    It's so much better than Windows! PoopOS is like... imagine Jesus' second coming, Mohammed's second coming, those two having a baby together... and then imagine that baby's second coming! That's how awesome it is! I know because I communicated with AMD, Intel, Microsoft and Steve Job's ghost directly! I swear! Pinky promise!

    There, that should do it. 🍿
  • 2
    @Fast-Nop mate, I don't want to start a religious war here. I just wanted to make a smart remark, that's all.
  • 3
    @shakur The grand mufti of Saudi-Arabia ruled otherwise. Chess is forbidden in Islam because it encourages gambling and is a waste of time, and it's included under gambling: https://irishtimes.com/news/world/...

    And yeah Debian, so rock stable that it raises eyebrows if there's accidentally a package from this century. ^^

    @shakur I think you're under the false impression that I'm backing you up. I believe in freedom of religion, even if I can't stand either of the popular religions. Plus, yours has something against ham and believes in torturing animals before slaughter. So I wouldn't push that luck if I were you.
  • 1
    @shakur LOL! :)
  • 1
    @shakur I'll pick my bone with mass slaughter and animal farming later. But to say that cutting a sheep's throat ear to ear and letting it bleed out until it dies is not torture, is just wrong. It is definitely torture.

    But, your religion hasn't updated for about 15 centuries, so it is expected of it to be out of date. Either way, an internet discussion will not change any of our minds, so let's end the discussion here and go our mary ways.
  • 1
    @shakur you don't mean "explained", you mean "interpreted from". Afaik it's a religious book, not a physics book.

    Aaaand that's the last of me for for this discussion. Better get back to my tv show and dinner. 😛
  • 2
    @frogstair "extremely lucky" - good joke!

    While I'm definitely not saying that your issues with the system are invalid, I've had Linux on 20+ systems by now and I've only had one slight hardware/driver related issue.

    Some major manufacturers have official support by now :) (Lenovo, Dell and I'm probably missing one or two)
  • 2
    @shakur As for the meat debate, I'm a vegetarian regardless :)

    But nah, the chance of me ever converting from atheism to any religion is..... very, very low. I'm good with being an atheist!
  • 2
    @shakur With all respect mate, I'm in my mid 20's and I have been a vegetarian for my entire life, I'm all good ;)
  • 3
    Do we still do this thing of liking both and just switching between them?

    I'm using Arch btw
  • 5
    I'd consider it to be bad user, change user solution kind of problem.

    @shakur I will explain everything that will ever happen:

    Things will happen except when they don't.

    Rant: "Linux is shit"
    Comments: 66 (guess it'll keep rising)
    Oh boy, was to be expected 😂
  • 2
    @shakur Won't work. With Linux, you can't drink alcohol, and Mohammed fucks up himself because of shitty drivers.
  • 3
    @shakur Rum is aqua vitae.
  • 4
    @shakur, @NoMad, @Fast-Nop and others
    Let's keep religious themed discussions off devRant, please.

    Also @shakur I seem to recall you were going to show me a few benchmarks that support your claims about AMD APUs, I wonder what happened to them...

    Also you really think an RX560 represents modern GPU performance? Please.

    @shakur
    > not quite sure what you took, but I want the same

    The point is this.

    I'm happy for you that you're content with Linux. So content, even, that you feel you should tell the world! So far we're good.

    However, beyond that you're hell-bent on converting others. To achieve that you're throwing around quite a number of overly fantastic claims. Be it about Linux superpowers, or how you allegedly have inside sources at Microsoft and AMD that reveal industry secrets to you. Not only that, you're free to share them with us. And curiously they're never nuanced. Instead they all indicate that the sudden death of Windows and Linux' world domination are coming soon.

    Cool story, bro.

    The parody I wrote, that's basically what you sound like to me. In fact, at this point I consider the possibility you might be a troll. You're not dumb. You should understand we can't believe all this just on your testimony.
  • 1
    This either a troll post or a very frustrated newbie to the world of Linux. In the case of the second, it really can be a pain in the ass, but once you learn how to go through it well it can be a pretty smooth ride......most of the time.

    I honestly can't talk shit to someone not liking an OS, if you don't like it then its cool.

    Is Linux supposed to fill up its log files and then stop as its default install position.. ?
