I absolutely love how spotify earns its subscription monies.

And by love I mean I absolutely hate it which proves that its working.

Unlike other services where you cannot access content until you subscribe, on Spotify you can stream all you want provided you are okay with getting annoying ads about annoying ads.

And given how people have tendency to make irrational decisions when angry/annoyed/upset, for spotify it means another subscription.

Annoyingly spectacular.

    Their subscription model works well.

    And the longer you are a free user, the more ad breaks they hit you with.

    @C0D4 Absolutely. I am at a stage where I get an ad after ~every track. Not buying simply out of curiosity.

    @sudocode that's around when I gave up and paid, the 30 minutes free was amazing at that stage.

    @C0D4 I'll buy when they kidnap me and waterboard me after every track. Not giving in before that!

    @sudocode it was the electrocution of the nipples, I mean... it was enjoyable to begin with but long exposure hurts..., that pushed me over the line.

    @C0D4 Their loss! I am into that long exposure shit! Lol

    I don't know if it is still possible, but you could block ads on Spotifiy via DNS blocking, e.g. with a Pihole.

    What? Does the majority of people really have Stockholm syndrome?

    I loathe ads — especially animated or audible ones. I really cannot stand them.

    So I didn't even bother trying the free version.

    @uyouthe ๐Ÿ‘€it doesn't even have a free version, how is that relatable?

    Don't get me wrong, I know they have high quality playback, but you're comparing oranges to grapefruit here.

    I so badly wish they had a HiFi streaming and plans.

    Tidal anyone?

    The only reason I have Spotify because it acts my digital library where I have my entire collection and to explore new content.

    Once done, I stream the same on Tidal (unless I am able to not find it on Tidal).

    Also, Spotify is one of those companies which I don't think plays around with psychology though it did change my music consuming habit. Maybe positive psychology?

    @Benedikt doesn't work anymore.

    Unless the ads are loaded the music won't play for me.

    The ads about spotify made me stop using spotify.

    I won't support a company that makes user experience crap to make you pay. Also, the money goes to the artists other people listen to, not the ones you do.

    @F1973 We really need another way to support the arts, because the current system is fucking fucked.

    @F1973 This is nice! I don't think it's going to instigate the artistic and scientific utopia of which I believe we are fundamentally capable yet for reasons historic and social consistently shun, but it's good!

    @halfflat Rome wasn't built in a day :)
