Remember when I was praising ubiquiti? Forget about it. It fucking spies on you. Not gonna even try to openwrt it, I just throw it away. I don’t care.

    FUCK EM!

    Mikrotik - here I come.

    The company I'm working for needs fucking contracts to be able to collect user data and they can just say, "nah, we take that eighter way".
  • 5
    Yep. The first clue is their app needs location to connect to your router.

    Data collection != spying.
    Do they SELL your data ?
    In our app we use data collection to know what people are doing. That helps us to prioritize development. It is healthy.
    When a customer report a bug, I need to be able to track the exact API request and associated data to find what’s going on.
    Keep living in your buble. And if you use google search, then your post is just laughable.

    @SortOfTested SONOS does the same !

    It is insane !!

    'We need your location to find a wreliess speaker"

    Hell no !

    @NoToJavaScript do you really think I use google? Do you really think I care about what data they collect and what they do with it? Do you really think that theoretical possibility of selling my data isn’t enough for me to never use their products again?

    @SortOfTested @NoToJavaScript on android, you need location permission to browse nearby wifi/bluetooth devices because from the user's perspective that can leak their location.

    @electrineer
    It has already obtained a WiFi connection at this point. It had no reason to scan another network.

    @SortOfTested yeah, after initial setup it should work without the permission.

    @JKyll a wifi router

    @uyouthe I don't know. Do you ?
  • 3
    @NoToJavaScript oh, so you don’t know eh? At least you’re quick to assume, that’s the most important thing in maintaining mental health, is it?
  • 5
    @uyouthe what shitty router, doesn't even make sense for a router to collect data, it should just route it!

    @uyouthe Dude. We code. "mental health" we all left it behind a long time ago. But If I had a spare neuron, I would Agree with you 99.96% (SLA)

    I run MikroTik for a year now, works like a charm, just takes some time getting setup...

    Was looking about Ubiquity here for the APs (CAPsMAN from MikroTik is kinda garbage) but with this? yea... noty...

    I just wish MikroTik would make a better management tool (I love the idea and relative simplicity of UniFi) and just obliterate Ubiquity...

    Wait what??? And i was using unifi exactly because they don't collect shit....

    @NeatNerdPrime they collect shit and they are shit
