Wow wtf. Laptop is not starting 😰
1 week left for my first decent job to start, and this shit happens.
I press the start button , it shows the hp automatic repair screen nd again goes off . Kill me now 😭😭
Showed it to laptop repair guy, he says it migjt be a mother board short-circuit issue.
What stupid fucking motherboard fries itself when being slept all night? What wrong i fucking did?! Why it keeps fucking happening to me 😭

Does your job not provide you with a laptop? Could it be a software issue?

a short circuit can or might happen if the laptop was really manhandled or something dropped into the laptop(mostly conductive) or you connected some strange device into any of your ports but then most motherboards have a kind of safety feature that limits damage to the port in question.

other than this then it's most likely just a software issue

@ilechuks73 @alexbrooklyn it could be a mishandling issue, considering the fact that i travelled 70km while changing multiple transport vehicles yesterday. Other than that , no shady device connection. All i connect is my charger. I was really careful all the journey , idk what fucking killed my boy :'(

Also could be cache issue i guess? I usually keep my device in locked state and do not switch off completely. But i have no way to check.

How bad is motherboard getting fried tho? I am shit scared :(

@yowhatthefuck it's really bad. I'll advise a replacement most times or even a new PC if you dont trust your repair guy wont just fuck you over. it depends on your level of trust with your repair guy. most cases it always gets really messy when people try to repair. not reliable

@spantheslayer dont be hard on them, lol.

    Can you try to liveboot?
  • 1
Sounds exactly like entry level hp laptop behaviour. Try booting linux from a usb stick. You can even prepare that with your phone if you don't have another computer.

The fact that it boots that far means that a lot is still working. If you get problems with another os install, it's likely that there's something wrong with the motherboard, like a bad capacitor.

just get rid of it and use a raspberry pi.

@jadou this raspberry pi thing is very interesting but really costly in my country. too costly

Just a fyi if it helps. My laptop had similar symptoms. The c drive, an ssd where my OS was booted from, had died. It was a relatively new laptop, about a year old. You could open up your BIOS on startup to see if the drive your OS is stored shows up there

    > laptop boots BOOTMGR but no more
    > "nah mobo's fried"
fucking what? just reinstall the OS

This is why you shut your computers down

@arcsector this is why you never start your computer

@electrineer this is why you never buy a computer

@alexbrooklin It's the best idea. Try a live usb to boot from the USB. If it boots it's not your motherboard...

big ol phew... Turns out it was a windows issue. Went to the official service center that's around 12km from my house, all to get it up and running in 5 minutes. Not sure if the guy made a hacky solution or was it genuine software problem, but he formatted my window, added a new one and it was loading fine.

Lost a month's worth of data tho, but as long as my little boy's healthy , a short term memory loss could be easily recovered ❤️

I am sensing some battery reminder apps to be the culprits tho. Last time i got my battery removed,i made sure that am never gonna overcharge it so added a couple of alarm apps that would notify once battery is above 90/95/98/100%. Even when the lid is closed and again reopened, they would like, shoot out as if being stored in some waiting queue.

Looks like the savior become the fucker

Dude where are your backups. A month's work is more valuable than a laptop.

@yowhatthefuck look at how they massacred my boy
  • 0
@ilechuks73 i know. Same in my country too, but it might be cheaper than a laptop, though, right?
  • 0
@jadou yeah. much cheaper. but I need a screen, keyboard and mouse etc. to use a pi. what country are you from?
  • 0
@electrineer yeah i didn't imagined my laptop opening so soon , just weeks ago after i formatted and installed an ssd.

Luckily i Haven't been coding much after 9/11 since college exams happened , otherwise would have been crushed to death about this. My last backup would be of sept 3 or 4th.

How often do you guys backup tho, and where? My 40% work is backed up on GitHub and rest on a hard disk
