HOLY FUCK!!!!!!! SECOND OFFER!!!!!

Had to delete the previous rant to make this one. Turns out that the tech head was hiring manager and was super impressed.

<Previous Rant>
My day started with an interview at 9.

The tech head goes on a long 15 minute monologue of how great their company is (which actually is as they are solving a good problem), even before I had my coffee.

Damn!!

It was a good interview session and I enjoyed it, nonetheless.

The day seems to be looking good. Hopefully 2 more rounds to go. Let's see how things evolve..

    Congrats!

    Tiny siderant: Companies doing multi-round hiring processes are evil.

    I give them 1 interview for free with a max of 2h incl travel, after which I either start billing per hour or want to see a contract 🤷‍♂

    I can understand they want to minimize risk so a short-term initial contract is totally acceptable... But I'm not going to visit an office 6 times in a row to sit in a meeting room writing your stupid fibonacci or sorting algos for free.

    @bittersweet Thanks.

    Wow!! you actually bill companies for interviewing you? Does that work? Do they pay?

    That's cool actually.

    @F1973

    No, it does not actually work in that they pay me for an interview -- But politely telling them to stop fucking around does send a signal about how much I value my time.

    When my current employer invited me for a second round 5 years ago, I told them that I had better things to do than waste my time on interviews and practice problems -- I said: "Give me a 14-day contract and let me solve that database locking / race condition issue you're having, or I'm moving on".

    That's why I always try to extract information about current challenges the company is having in the first interview. I want to know how I can prove myself to be valuable in the first 5 days of work, so quickly offering me a short-term contract is of benefit both to me and the employer.

    (I will send you an invoice for $150 for this comment, as it was my second comment on this rant)
