My employer gives us optical allowance so I decided to get UV glasses. I thought what the hell, the worst that could happen is I would find it useless and throw it in my role play closet for special occasions. So I walked in there, said "I want one of those things for computer people", and chose the plain black frame shit.

I was about to pay thinking that they'd just hand it over to me but wait, she said sit down, it's time for your free eye exam. So I sat there staring into this hole anticipating a bullet shooting from it and getting my brains blown out through one of my eyes on an afternoon in the mall. The sound of those mall goers screaming mixed with those early Christmas jingles right in front a "Kid's Choice" sale.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen and after some tests, she said, "Look at those numbers in the grocery store. Can you read what's under them?" I said, "Yeah, kinda blurry but yes." She said, "Now wear this and look again." Woah woah woah, this is high definition shit. I remember being able to see like this a long time ago. Then I remembered all the times that texts were pretty blurry but it didn't really affect me that much so I just ignored them thinking my eyes were just tired or that it's always been like that.

Now I don't just have glasses to wear while on a computer, I'm required to wear them all the time for six months until my next check-up.

    Disappointment is all around us mate. Don't feel low. It will soon happen.

    @F1973 You feel me, man.

    Did they do that thing where they shoot a lil bit of air into your eye to check the elasticity or whatever? Was the most uncomf thing I've ever experienced 😖 bet you look cute with your glasses

    I had a similar moment. I didn't even notice my vision deteriorating slightly over the years and I just thought that that's how I always saw. Then I put on glasses, and it's like switching from 480p to 4k. Surreal

    And now go to the actual optician for an actual eyes exam. There are cases when you see things blurry and glasses, while make you see sharper, harm your eyes even more. And NOT wearing glasses actually helps you.

    This was the case for me. And many other people.

    @Elyz Yeah, it's to measure your ocular tension, i.e. the pressure inside your eyes (I used to work on machines like that)

    It makes you want to punch the guy in the face

    @Lutee Hope you'll use them for our roleplay later today

    @Jilano of course you did 😂

    Welcome to the "shit I thought my eyes were fine but I guess they're pretty fucked" party, the liquor is over there.

    @netikras An optician is someone who can prescribe glasses, and assemble and adjust them for you. If you want a more thorough test, consult an optometrist or, even better, ophthalmologist.

    @electrineer thank you. I'm always confusing those

    This happens to many who stare at screens all day.

    Happens to many of us, I've had shit vision since I was a kid. First glasses cost about £20 or something. Fast forward 40 years, thanks to all the age related shit that happens to your eyes, my last pair were £600! And my sight will probably degrade enough for me to need a new pair in about a year!

    Eyesight is one of those many things we often overlook
  • 3
    @asgs Same goes with hearing, to be honest.
  • 1
    wait, why are you required to wear glasses if your eye sight is relatively okay? unless you're driving

    I have the same "somewhat blurry" eye sight and i don't wear glasses almost always.
  • 2
    @iiii one reason is to not make it worse
  • 1
    @Elyz No. I've never experienced that. Did you hit them with your strong arms? I look like a granny.
  • 1
    @Jilano Okay, I'll use the machine on your eyes later.

    @nibor Damn. Were they Cyberpunk eyeglasses?

    @asgs "Eyesight is one of those many things we often overlook."

    There's a hidden joke here and I'm disappointed that @Jilano Sins didn't catch it.

    @rutee07 Hey, it's "later", I'm still waiting!

    Also brain tired joke can't

    "So I sat there staring into this hole anticipating a bullet shooting from it and getting my brains blown out through one of my eyes"

    ...thanks for that mate, every eye test I now have is going to be petrifying...

    Hahaha. I had the same feeling of UHD when I got my glasses not that long ago. Surreal. 4K TV finally made sense.

    @Elyz the lowest level form of torture in hell. Every time you turn your head, theres a small but firm gust of bitter eye-wateringly cold wind directly into your eye.
