Best experience of 2020: Got my first big boy dev job and working on the side at a start up and being involved with big decisions.

    Hooks are great...

Hooks really are the worst :)

The irony of ironies is the same people who found "angular lifecycle events" to be difficult and cumbersome are all about react hooks, which is the same damn thing.

Are angular lifecycle events ... entirely different than react's old lifecycle methods?

Kinda weird they use the same term but apparently are very different things.

React Hooks are build on react's old lifecycle methods, it's just a simplification. Just like Angular 2+ consolidated various events into an interface event mechanism.

    It's literally the same thing.

    Ah got it.

Yeah ultimately we're watching for the same thing hook or old lifecycle method... albeit with some advantages such as being able to put the damn thing outside the UI and so forth...

Fuck react hooks. I fucking liked the old class-based component system.

Getting rid of the need for ‘this’ was the main benefit of functional react, but I never had any problems with ‘this’

Besides, I may be an oop guy, but it just makes more sense that components are represented by classes. Functions do things, classes represent things

@10Dev I think that way too, functions are just blocks of code that execute when you call them, the idea of UI like a button being a function makes my brain explode into goo. Hooks do take out a lot of extra typing and reading which is a plus.
