So here I am going over the list of papers I need to read before I start working on my PhD project, and some of the papers are seriously MEH. I take a look at one of the video submissions, and of course to prove their fairly weak point, they rendered women jumping with their cleavage out and with skirts short enough to see their underwear.
I just started and I already feel like I want to puke all over these intellectuals, like that kid in the Korn video.

What field of research warrants this kind of video?

@homo-lorens SLAM, apparently. I especially appreciated how the rendered guys are dressed normally with the addition of swag sunglasses.

@NickyBones I can't decide whether the author was bored or they wanted to subconsciously appeal to the (probably male majority) reviewers. Either way, ew.

@homo-lorens They also have some major rendering fuck-ups in the legs area. A seriously MEH paper. I guess when you are Imperial College you can shit on an A4 paper, submit it and get accepted to any conference.

I can't get over the fact that they actually had them dance gangam style

Maybe it's just the field. In reconfigurable logic/comp arch (my field), papers tend to be really dry and serious, I wouldn't mind a bit of levity now and then (but of course, done properly).

Also since it's a smallish community with a ton of industry relations and a lot of people know each other so the proportion of meh papers is on the lower side, or maybe that's just my imagination. I'd imagine CV/graphics to be way more mainstream.
