Just realized Windows 10 update "Restart Now" button doesn't have a confirmation/cancel screen unlike the normal power options.
Learned it the hard way when I just wanted to change the time it restarts and clicked restart now by accident.
Goes to show how forced these updates are .-.

Most annoying OS I ever used, on any device, ever.

    ...aaaaaand it broke my grub.

    Thanks Windows :D

    > Clicks it
    > "OMG MICROSOFT FORCED IT ON ME"

If you don't know how to use a bloody mouse nor to read, it's your fault.

@filthyranter you're saying as though accident clicks don't happen tho. What I said was only that Windows gave no chance of canceling after one clicks restart now, unlike normal restarts.
I didn't read the button before clicking it, that's true. But I think any normal applications will at least ask, to make sure the user has saved what they need or so, before actually closing/restarting. I just don't see why Windows are so eager to update now that it doesn't even wait for the user to confirm first.

    Welcome to Windows-as-a-Service.

I feel dirty just saying that, ew

Huh I never get any of this error only some crashes cuz I'm using insider

Ubuntu, Debian etc. do not require a restart for updates at all. Why does microsoft not improve this '90s problem?

@filthyranter He did click it and in this case i guess it is his fault, but his comment about forced updates still stands. Before Win10 I've never encountered an OS with so little regard to it's users. I know it's proprietary but I never expected this level of malevolence.

    @pajaja One word: WannaCry

@filthyranter What about it? Terminating user's programs without permission and forcefully restarting the computer has nothing to do with WannaCry (or I'm missing something).

The forced updates are just for security and your wellbeing ;)

@pajaja the forced updates are only for Home editions, pro editions have exceptions for this. The reason that Home editions have forced updates is that if they dont do it they get sued for not having a safe system. Pro editions are only used by people who know what they are doing. So please dont cry and get another version which is made for us devs

@Codex404 I just checked one PC that rebooted itself twice (that I know of) without permission. If those weren't forced updates I'm scared to know what the fuck are forced updates. Also do you think that work that home users do is not important as yours so it's ok that they lose it?
  • 0
@pajaja no I dont think that work of home edition users is less important, but I do think people shouldnt cry about something if its something needed otherwise MS will get sued again.
If you dont want force updates you should get Pro, never had any forced update in my life (and Ive been im the insider ring since it exists)

@Codex404 Not sure if you're referring to me or the OP, but I'm not crying about Win10 updates since I dont use it. Unfortunately, my girlfriend does 3D rendering and has to. On Win10 PC she has queues of jobs to be rendered and each of them can take several days to complete. One could agree that restarting in the middle of 96 hour render and canceling it alongside the rest of the queue is not something that anyone would want, except maybe MS. Also as I said previously, it is a Pro version. I don't want to go into reasons why you didn't have these problems but my first guess is that you don't leave the PC powered on for several months without restarting and updating it.

Btw, why did they get sued? For what are they responsible?

@pajaja I wasnt talking about you, just people in general.
And MS is an American company, they got sued a few times for not letting people know they had updates even though it was pretty clear. With winfows 10 (home) they force it and its still not good.

I let my PC on 24/7 since its also media server.

@Devman refer to the comment I made above lol
I'm not even blaming Windows for the updates, I wanted to delay the update for a later time and i misclicked on that. I was expecting a cancel option like regular reboots, but it didn't. That's all I'm saying.

@Logo12 It literally said Restart NOW. Now means immediately, so no confirmation. If it only said Restart, you'd have a point.

@pajaja Tell her to disable the Windows Update service...did the same after win10 rebooted in the middle of my renders ^^
