If your wordpress "tutorial" includes the words "just install {plugin->name}" then pack up your things and go home. We do a lot of wordpress development at work (don't throw things! it pays the bills!) and like any good dev I do a lot of googling. But every time I find one of these...things (I won't dignify them by calling them tutorials again) I want to stick a pencil in my eye!

I fucking love WordPress, but these kind of plugin things drives me crazy. And I hate those people who call themselves WP developers, but the only thing they do is installing 6739928628382901848 plugins.

@mrbig00 look I definitely think it has its uses. I just would prefer that the overall development environment wasn't full of nonsense advice like "install a plugin". It gives WordPress a bad reputation I think and makes it overly difficult to find useful tutorials and/or information (setting aside the codex).

Yeah, I remember the old days when I made themes from zero. I had to make my own tutorials, in case of I forgot something :)

Lately I've been experimenting more with using it just as a CMS and then hooking it up to a react frontend. I've only recently started web dev as a career (it's my second) so I still have lots to learn!
