When you are working late, is there a role on your team who grabs you dinner / does other odd jobs?

We used to have a producer job role, but those employees had their title changed to program manager at one point, and since the switch there really isnt a role whos obligations include grabbing dinner for the team on late nights and doing other odd jobs / tasks. How does your org handle this? Are you "entitled" to dinner if you stay late, or do you figure that out on your own?

Quick disclaimer: I kind of feel spoiled / ridiculous for expecting someone to grab me dinner, but if i'm working 12+ hours and I have to leave to get dinner, i might aswell just go home as my concentration is going to be broken and im sure the business would rather my butt in its seat coding.

I know this happens nearly everywhere, but still. I wouldn’t be looking for a person like that. I’d be looking for someone (possibly with the title “manager”) whose job is to make sure you’re not working 12+ hr days and don’t need the company to buy you dinner. I hate that this is just expected sometimes.

@CrankyOldDev Yeah that's a really good point and not something that can be ignored that if you are constantly working OT / late nights, there is something wrong with your process/planning that should be addressed.

The few times this actually happened - I can count them on one hand, there was this one project with really messed up project planning when I was still on my apprenticeship - the big boss had pizza ordered for all of us.
This is kind of an unwritten company policy in these cases.
I'm OK with doing extensive over hours as long as they don't become a common occurrence - so grabbing me dinner in return is cheap enough to return the favour.

I worked for a well known crunch factory in games for years. Generally it was always a producer who handled the food orders.

But.. Because one of the other group studios took the piss by spending too much we were put on a limit of £10 a day. This wouldn't be a problem except the studio was based in a very upmarket town with very few food outlets where you could barely get a thing for your £10.. So you'd end up on a rotation of about 3 food places where you could maybe afford 1/3rd of the dishes..

    Happy days!

Thankfully i got out and now work in a crunch free environment 😊
