Teachers!

Why can't they just leave me alone!?

I was using my laptop. (Linux) and I have it set up so that I do basically everything from command line.

My teacher then walks by (he was checking on people) then he sees me.

I was using a split terminal setup with a client web browser and nano open. (I was taking notes)

He sees this and like all teachers, he immediately decides that I am hacking.

So.. I saw him and was like "fuck.. this will be interesting"...

To keep this short,

I got in trouble then he spent for ever telling me about how much trouble I could get in for using "that thing" (a terminal)..

I have lost hope in all teachers..

This isn't the first time too..

You're definitly in the wrong place.

God how I hate it when teachers at the same time say how us young ones know so much more about tech and stuff (which isn't really true, from experience BTW 😂) yet still reserve the right to think they know whether we're doing dangerous shit or not despite their blathering incompetence... It's just sad really

Ducking hell, this makes me angry

We live in a sad little world of ignorance...sadly...

    White theme vs dark theme?

I come from a school where remote shutdown is considered hacking. I am definitely ashamed of it! 😂

What's the purpose of a teacher? To teach you things. How can he/she teach you things when you know more things that him/her?

I have come to the conclusion that most teachers ended up in that profession because they were just too fucking stupid to do a real job.

@ewpratten I feel we should change to white in public. They'll think it's notepad or something lol
  • 5
@cuervo nah.. it is usually funny to watch people's reaction

You should learn vim, if you don't already :)
  • 6
A good teacher is also a good learner. Maybe you can explain what you are really doing.

Yesterday I had some problems with node and JavaScript, and I was using vim to edit code(even though its encouraged to use WebStorm) and lecturer tried to help me.
-oh its vim, haven't used that in a while, let me see.
Well he didn't solved but advised me how to do it and what packages I should use for that. I was very happy as there were few modules last year which were reallyy boring and dry

@ravio I am working on it

@CriticalFailure I agree! This isn't the first team here too!

@teadrinker I beg to differ. I have Professors that could get a job by just tweeting that they are looking for one.
  • 2
@ewpratten it is probably because the dark theme
  • 6
@ravio Well, my original statement was very sweeping and not really meant to be taken too literally. Of course there are some superb, inspirational teachers out there. But there are also many reports on this forum of teachers who clearly shouldn't be doing the job!

    So, I'm a teacher too.
And I use vim, tmux, and all the text based interface thing in my class. Are u in? :)

    @gofrendi Teach me, master!

Thank god that never happened to me, I would probably snap at them and loose my shit over a) my screen is my private business, f off, b) teacher is so incompetent that it would be much better for him if he just taped his mouth shut.

I really hated when teachers wasted my time and they knew it. (Wasn't the best behaving one as you can see)

This would be horrifying and depressing if that class/teacher is in IT/CS. If it's any other non-techy class, I could see why this would happen. But holy shit if that was a CS teacher...

@corscheid I have an IT teacher that freaked out because I was using linux / g++ / nano instead of windows / eclipse
  • 3
@ewpratten You've gotta be fucking kidding me... Then he dares call himself "IT teacher"... 🙄😭😥
  • 3
@cuervo I was actually thinking that too the other day when someone else was commenting on a comparable situation. It seems that the black background and green/text scares people.
  • 3
@wiredgecko we can thank Hollywood and the news for that
  • 3
@ewpratten I understand how you feel, some teachers should not be teaching. Unfortunately this happens all to often...
  • 1
Time to tell the teacher to fuck off.
  • 2
@mohilkhare17 getting access to anyone's information or system abilities without permission is technically hacking
  • 2
@CriticalFailure All in all, its just another brick in the wall.
