Hey @Root! I know you won't have time to finish Ticket A before holiday vacation, so work on Ticket B instead.
I finished Ticket A in time. except for converting/fixing some horrible spaghetti monstrosity. More or less: "we overwrote this gem's middleware and now it calls back into our codebase under specific circumstances, and then calls the gem again, which calls the middleware again." Wtf? It's an atrocity against rationality.
The second day after vacation:
Hey @Root, drop Ticket B and work on Ticket C instead. Can you knock this out quick, like before friday? ... Uh, sure. It looks easy.
Ticket C was not easy. Ticket C was a frontend CSS job to add a print button, and for unknown reasons, none of the styles apply during printing. The only code involved is adding a button with a single line of javascript: `window.print()`, so why give it to the chick who hasn't been given a frontend ticket in over a year? Why not give it to the frontend guy who does this all day every day? Because "do it anyway," that's why.
And in somewhere between 13 (now 5) minutes and two hours from now, I'm going to have a 1:1 with my boss to discuss the week. Having finished almost all of Ticket A won't matter because it's not a "recent priority" -- despite it being a priority before, and a lot of work. I've made no progress on Ticket B due to interruptions (and a total and complete lack of caring because I'm burned out and quite literally can no longer care), and no progress on ticket C because... it's all horribly broken and therefore not quick. I assigned it to Mr. Frontend, which I'll probably get chewed out for.
So, my 1:1 with bossmang today is going to be awful. And the worst part of all: I'm out of rum! Which means sobriety in the face of adversity! :<
but like, wtf. Just give me a ticket and let me work on it until it's done. Stop changing the damn priorities every other freaking day!rant idk shifting priorities but why is all the rum gone? past accomplishments don't matter atrocity against rationality sobriety in the face of adversity16 -
If 13 hour days on Friday are the norm, I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board. Fuck that.9

29 hours straight. From a thursday morning at 8 to friday around lunch at 13. No sleep at all.
A coworker became a dad a week before, so now I had to complete his data migration project. Had not been involved in the project at any point until his son was born.
But I made it and got a bonus in the end👍🏻 -
Since Friday devRant posts where errors are introduced by very dumb things like commas have stood out to me.
Today's error fix. Line 1352. A string input defined in the spec file was set for 13 length. The body file had 12 dashes to represent this input.
Really, one dash, four days to solve.
Oh and Unix over Windows because my compiler on Windows didn't catch it but the Unix one sure did which is how I found it. -
iAPPLIED CS UNIVERSITY, DAY 1 (2018-09-24)
11:00 UTC+3: Arrived at the secretary's office to complete my registration. I met quite some people; I forgot the names of some. I spent some time over there, so I took the 13:00 class instead of the 11:00 one. It's still early, so we pick whichever we want.
13:00: Procedural Programming at the Computer's lab. The computers were running Windows 8.1! 😱 I might connect to my laptop via RDP. It would be very cool. The course was about C, but the first time was just an introduction. We are going to use Code::Blocks. We were also explained the (HTTP only) web platform in which we are logged in via our passwords and submit our assignments. The professor was very nice, but this day at least was very boring. I was watching CodeMinkey cartoons, trying to solve AdLitterams.
18:00: Back for Applied Mathematics I. At the same computer lab. No lesson did happen, because we have to s learn theory stuff first (every Friday I think). Back to home.
Tommorrow is going to be a hard day...:wq1 -
Fuck my company, sincerly.
So Im crunching my ass off, to make product, there is +- fuckton of changes that for example require refactoring flow of certain things, restructure of how shit work, Im +- 2nd weekend now, and most heavy features are cleared.
I work till late. constantly I have someone with stupid shit like calls, indeed Im needed for that stuff but also, that slows down progress of this project. Just sake of example friday 18:00 I had call (I work till 16:00) about new minor and frankly easy feature. Today, morning 8:30 one call, than 13:00 long call, Ive done the feature, didn't push it to alpha. yet though.
Now during that call that started 13:00 I get yelled on that all ordered features aren't on prod yet (I throw them to alpha becouse manual tests must be done as standard here).
Dude what the motherfuck. Im literally wearing my ass off to deliver your stupid product becouse I know its critical for company but it does not mean I can do it all in one fucking night.
F**k off and shut your mouth up and let me work for f**k sakes.
Ah also, stop f**king remotely micromanage me you little piece of sh*t.
Thanx for allowing me to vent out,
Peace.2 -
me vs my job at mnc (not laggards anymore) part 8/n
so... 13 days has past and now i know somewhat about the "system" and coming to terms with it. maybe this is my first time working from office (in hybrid mode) or maybe i have worked with startups that provide some great delicacies in the name of work culture, i.... have some things that i like and dislike.
like :
- once the initial disastrous onboarding was done and i had access to most of the tools, resources and people i needed, i looked into the codebase to much of my relief. it is verbose and shitty, but like, filled with good latest shit . all the the latest architectures, libraries, etc will keep me on toes for next 3 or so months and i will get a hang to being an awesome blazing fast android dev (the thing which i was in my first job and which got seriously impacted in my 2nd job)
- no one is batting an eye as i join the office at 10 am and leave by sharp 5 pm (although i highly doubt it will go unnoticed. official timings are 9-7 and i will have to learn some politics to deal with it. the 7-9 slot in mornings and evenings are highly crowded ,brain bursting periods )
- wfo is 2/5 days
dislike :
- they are killing me with jira :'( . instead of using story points, they want us to put time estkmates and add hours to that estimate each day :/ this sucks, i hate opening jira more than once a week
- my senior seems like sly guy. he's 1 or 2 years older than me, but with better experience in both tech and politics. previously we both got a task and he was able to finish it on Friday while i was not able to complete it on weekend as well as today. turns out he was buttering our (cute) PM, going bro code with TL and got to know which task will be smaller. and even after that today he was just sitting idly doing all the buttering / dude-ing every imp person and i was also distracted/ laughing at his antics. need to learn how to deal with that guy and infact become that guy
