That's the exact question that came to me 2 years back when I was also going to go to sleep early tonight14
-
When you look back on your github activity and just think "Wow, we have really created something special. This is really going to help the world." It just... It gets me. That's why I do this day in and day out.14
-
The worst bad practice I do is I keep going to work.
Many years down the road I will probably look back and say I should have spent more time with my wife (who are you?) and children (wow, you are tall).4 -
Got into my morning bus. Bus starts driving and suddenly stops and starts going backwards.
Everybody looking at each other like what the fuck is happening.
He drives straight back (backwards) to the bus stop to let some more people in!
Everyone laughing.
Fucking genius hahaha.11 -
Wasn't there myself. Came back after weekend or being sick or something and after the daily stand-up one of the guys came to me:
"hey man not to be rude or anything but we're not going to use your code for the project. You're programming in a wrong way."
They explained me where I was going wrong and then it appeared that my study taught me some principles of PHP programming wrong.
I felt like shit, downish and had to fight the tears because I felt quite humiliated.
Looking back at it, they were completely right.12 -
Been getting rejected for Linux related jobs all over for the last few months. Yesterday I emailed a company yet again because fuck it.
Got a call today from their recruiter! Genuinely nice guy and he's going to call me back tomorrow! Let's hope this finally goes well 😄20 -
Welcome back, hopefully theres soon a rant telling us what has been going on since last time we saw you?12
-
My co-worker quit by saying he was going back to school.
The dude just went to sit at home.
He figured that its much better than constant "abuse" at the office. 😂3 -
My prof suggested me to use matlab instead of Python for my project.
So I started learning and found out that in matlab ARRAYS START FROM 1.
Wtf!
I am going back to python8 -
The network starts slowing down, transactions start to fail across the 450+ stores, the website starts to spit 500 errors what is going on?
Queue a frantic running around the office working out what was going wrong... Calls from all 3 data centres, nothing is going in or out of the network.
Notice the network admin come back to his desk, his eyebrows raise and he looks left and right before unplugging his laptop ethernet from one of the server access points
The network rushes back to life, everything is fine.
That particular network mapping tool is now banned for use on production.10 -
01. Woke Up

*installs Ubuntu to feel good about my pathetic self by using Linux*
*suddenly realizes need to use Photoshop for UI/UX work*
*tries setting it up using PlayOnLinux but fails everytime for random reasons*

Feels bad, man...25 -
"I'm going to manage to make this webpage without so many divs"
"Oh. I need a div there"
"There too"
"Yes, and there ofc."
*looks back at markup*

"You know that feature we told you to put back in again after we told you to take it out after we had that meeting where we decided to put it back in again after we agreed to take it out after that change request was submitted to add it? We're going to need you to take it out again."
Exhibit B in an upcoming murder trial. I'm pleading justifiable homicide.3 -
This morning I couldn't delete any of my projects and my workspace kept refreshing. I was going mad about it. Then I looked at my keyboard and realized I was clicking F5 instead of Delete. I'm going to get a coffee. Be right back.3

My dad has been working for IBM for almost 30 years now. A couple years back, when we were traveling, he just stopped and changed directions going "ooohhh"... Apparently IBM used to make atms and he just saw one and just had to make a withdrawal... 😅1

Going... going.... going.... gone!!
Stackoverflow is sold, now to sit back and await the profiteering that's bound to happen.
I quote:
Prosus has built a significant presence on the enterprise side with a focus on the future of workplace learning. Prosus will reach 90% of the Fortune 100 across its corporate learning companies including Stack Overflow, Skillsoft, Udemy and Codecademy.

Do you ever spend hours helping someone with a programming problem, trying to teach them and develop their skills, but at the back of you mind you're thinking, "no amount of help is going to save you from being a fucking cretin"?6
-
Going back to Java after being writing code in Kotlin for a while feels like going back with your crazy, over reacting ex.3
-
Was updating a legacy website when I came across this gem... Gotta wonder what was going on back then2
-
The whole devteam entering the meeting sitting there for a few minutes realizing the one who placed the meeting was not there. With questionmarks almost painted to our forheads we silently agreed on leaving and going back to what we did before the meeting.

Why can’t motherfuckers look where they’re going?
Went to the petrol station to put some more air in my tyres.
Some old dude was reversing out of a parking spot and had turned left so was now reversing along th back of the other parked cars.
I pulled into the car park, saw Home reversing and stopped, he was well clear of other cars, but he kept going back, I gave a little toot toot of the horn, but he decided to keep going and hit me.
It’s not the end of the world, and his insurance will cover it, but it will knack my no claims bonus.
Fucking Sunday’s, I shit ‘em19 -
Wasted whole day installing Ubuntu and get it to work on my laptop 😥
Now going back on Windows...36 -
Didn't it take us years to stop writing javascript and html embedded? Is it just me or are we going back where we started? It's all a mix now!19
-
Girl I work with says she's going to make a change on the "back-end of the website"... logs into Wordpress... no comment, just keep swimming1
-
I was asleep and woke up and just had the thought: fuck Oracle and fuck Oracle DB. Going back to bed now 😴😴😴5
-
I often times write code and think to myself "I don't have to comment this, it's obvious what is going on", only to find myself back at the same code, figuring out wtf it does...1
-
Just updated to the latest insider build for Windows 10.. left PC unattended and came back later and it was ready... no BSODs, no random crashes, no issues, nothing... it just works as expected...
I can hear Linux fanatics screaming after reading this 😂
FUCK all this Windows stereotypes BS going on here15 -
Going back to put in comments after you realise your code is actually going to be used by others after all3
-
Boss: I don't want you spending more than 30 min looking into the problem.
Me: ok
Go back to desk and read or watch some cs training. Maybe related.
Go back to boss.
Me: going to take (over estimate tome) to fix.
Boss: ok.
Go back to desk and fix in less time than estimated.
Look like gold.3 -
I've tried so many laptops as dev workhorses. Dell, hp, a few apples, and now after 20 years, a ThinkPad.
Never. Going. Back.9 -
Someone "advised" me today to start going to bed early because it improves my health. Well, it's been 3 hours with my eyes still open.
Screw it am going back to code.6 -
The superhuman feeling of going back to your code after a week and it all makes perfect sense, the variable names are intuitive, the doc strings are comprehensive, and the general codebase structure is sensible.2
-
!rant waiting for my first job interview as a developer at 35years old, so fucking nervous.😱😵 it's like going back to my childhood6
-
Devrant feature: It would be cool that when you wanna write a comment, it doesn't open a new page, but a textarea appears at the bottom, so I can re-read the other comments and the rant without going back.19

So, boss asks for support on sunday, I say sure, no problem. I arrive, get to my station and suddenly my nose, eyes and throat become itchy. The goddamn building's been fumigated. Fucking assholes. I'm going back home dizzy and nauseous.4
-
I was going to an interview and they kept me waiting for more than 1 hour without a notice. When the interviewer came, she didn't even apologize and gave me a form to fill out. I left the building and didn't come back. Did I did wrong? What would you do?15

A while back our whole team was really frustrated with the marketing department.
In retaliation we made a new branch for our project called marketing-bs, which was used for all of marketing feature requests.
It's the little wins that keep us going.1 -
When you get to 12pm (lunch time) and you've already been in 7 back to back meetings and no longer know what you were going to actually attempt to do today.
Listen kids, don't become the senior dev, you'll never work an hour in your day again!
#iJustWantToFuckingCodeToday!6 -
The only good thing about morning classes is going back home to sleep and still waking up at a reasonable time.4

Dumbest request?
Email piping chat system.
The chat system had to take replies from web and send them to an email, which the admin user can reply back via email and it publishes straight into the chat.
It was all fun and games until they wanted HTML based emails and content going back and forth, and attachments going both ways.4 -
Tried switching from sublime text to VS Code and Atom.

Vertical monitors people... Just tried it for the first time a few days ago; let's say that there's no going back. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?11 -
Today in work I spotted a shoddy solution within the system. When I looked up who'd implemented it I found out it was me 6 months ago... Feel like going back in time and giving myself a slap

After writing in ES6 for awhile going back to write some ES5 code feels like going from a 2017 Mustang to a 1917 Model T7
-
SeniorDev: "If we were only allowed to use C# 6 features, we could reduce our code base by 30%"
- other devs nodding their heads in agreement -
Me: "So, are you going to change our entire code base to be C# 6 compliant?"
SeniorDev: "Uh, oh hell no."
Me: "So those C# 6 features are going to reduce our code base by 0%?"
SeniorDev turns around without saying a word.
Getting a bit awkwardly quiet now. Better watch my back.4 -
So Microsoft removed the transparency Aero Glass effect going from Windows 7 to 10, to make 10 more "modern", even though 7 was pretty as fuck with that transparency.
Now they're bringing it back with their wanky "acrylic" blur?
Make up your mind Microsoft6 -
"When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through." - Steve Jobs6
-
Didn't sleep well.. now i'm constantly phasing out in front of my editor.
I just looked 5 mins straight at the word "readonly" until I came back to life and completely lost track of what I was doing.
Going to sleep a bit now..:D -
Sometimes I miss programming, but then I look at my programmer boyfriend's code and I'm like, "Never mind, I'm okay," and I go back to being carefree and happy while he's going grey from the stress. 🙆🏽3

Dropped by my old uni to visit some friends. Met an old classmate who wanted to ask me something about his Python code.
"Oh, no", I thought to myself. "I haven't touched Python in so long, I don't know if I can help, and even then I only knew how to do menial tasks in it!", thinking how to save face and my image of "programmer dropout".
5 minutes later I realized he was mistaking a dictionary for a JSON string, AND was trying to access a dictionary in a list... in a dictionary.
I quietly fixed his print statement which incited an excitement "oh wow, it works!" and quietly returned his laptop. Fun day. -
Time for some stats gathering! What mobile phone are DevRanters currently using? I've recently switched from iPhone 5 to Nexus 5X and I can surely say I'm not going back 😁57

Tried to do a startup for a year, did not make loss but did not get the funding to keep going. Now going back to previous company and taking up the old job. 😔11

WHYYY is LDAP so god damn convoluted??!?
I love the idea of it, but in practice, everything is just a hack on top of hack on top of hack going as far back as the 90s.3 -
That moment when you take a look back at your old portfolio websites...
I have to cringe and laugh at the same time rn. The way I styled it. OMG...
Self note: You will still cringe in the future, when you are going to look back at your current portfolio website.5 -
Over 3 years since my last rant... you might think lifes been like.... 🍹😎
It hasn't!
But, it's good to be back here with fresh new material. 🍿
Buckle up... "Where we're going, we don't need..." managers!4 -
What I hate most about myself is getting a great idea for a project, getting started on it, becoming distracted by other things, forgetting about the project, and having no idea what was going on when I come back to it months later.2
-
Apparently I can't follow devrant clearly when I'm drunk.
Going to YouTube to watch cat videos for a few hours. Then I'll be back.3 -
PM and UX designer talks.
About a feature on android with viewpager (swipeable views) and a header with buttons.
PM : We need a back button and a close button on the header.
UX : A customer will be confused by both, with the swipe too.
PM : Then we need a close button alone.
UX : Customer will search for back button and not everyone might swipe left.
PM : We need a back button alone.
UX : Customer might not know how to close the view. He can't keep going back back back.
PM : we don't need any buttons.
UX : Customer should find it easy to close or go back.
PM : bruv.2 -
I'm never going back to Google Cloud, AWS is the shit.
I'm fucking orgasming with how organized everything is, decent documentation, level of configurability, the integration of one service with another.
Just wow20 -
After two weeks with Ubuntu - I'm done with this. I'm going back to Windows.
Why? Well, it fixes some Windows problems, but at the same time new ones are popping and they are even bloody worse.10 -
People of Java.... Why do you love Java... It's so confusing and a pain to write.
Second off.... Why do I keep going back thinking I can write Java!!
WHEN I KNOW I HATE JAVA!!!13 -
So last week I ranted about the hours I was working, great start this week I'm up at 03:00 to go up north, not going to get back till 20:00 ish. Tomorrow I have to be in Wales for 09:00 so going to have to be up at 04:00 for a 5 hour travel time. Check my emails and my boss says after I get back from Wales tomorrow can we have a design and specification meeting about a "super urgent" product that we have to develop. Oh and Thursday I have to prep everything for going live with a new product Friday.8

Christmas 🌲 party at work tonight. It's going to be boring since we are only 9 staffs.
Please give me a good reason so I can ditch this party? The best one I have so far is "I have shit in my pants. going home to cleanup and change. I will come back."9 -
Have you guys tried the 'recent' rants tab?
It's like going back to the early days of devrant when it was unusual to see a rant over 100++ 😍6 -
Me: This is going to be a big issue
*Crickets*
Me: (X10) Raise same issue
*Crickets*
Suddenly my Friday starts with two teams going "HEY THIS IS AN ISSUE!"
Me: No shit? I never would have guessed. See you when I get back from vacation!2 -
I've never coded (for work) on vacation. I just turn off my work laptop and my work phone. So I can spend the first week of back to work for going through my email & messages.
I'm not irreplaceable and I work with competent people. (At least that's my goal at work.) -
I'm here at work working on my back end security code and my co-worker is watching the Emoji Movie.
I'm strongly against censorship, but this goddamn piece of cock shit makes me almost reconsider it. Noise canceling headphones are about the only thing keeping me from going that far.
//end rant18 -
Looks like Steam is launching a beta of a modified version of Wine, so windows games can be played on Linux too.
I'm seriously considering going back to Ubuntu now.3 -
New dev hired to assist me told the boss that he was going to refactor the code to improve stability.
He converted all my fragments into activities. Because he didn't understand working with the back stack. Now everyone is asking me what happened.3 -
Me: I have so much to do! How the hell am I going to get all this done?!
**hears someone say something about some framework/library I don't know**
Me: hmmm let me google that real quick then I'll get back to work...
**3 hours later**
Me: damnit! I'm never going to get my work done! -
Me: *Joins the dark side*
Me: Arrrrrrgh! So ugly!
Later...
Me: *Joins the dark side again and uses devRant for 5'*
Me: Mmm... that's actually better, no way I'm going back3 -
Is it bad that I'm excited about going back to work from tomorrow?
Like, I haven't even done jackshit throughout the break, and so it won't be easy jumping back in with both feet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯7 -
The saga to recover my FuckedIn account continues. Now, they're not replying regarding my latest upload of ID, since the previous one they claimed it was unreadable.
I am going to spam those motherfuckers until the end of time until I have my account back. Can I not sue them for incompetence?2 -
If 13 hour days on Friday are the norm, I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board. Fuck that.9
-
It's Monday morning. In our company there are 12 employees. Our work starts at 8:00AM and am the only here. This people are lucky, whenever I come in late, there are always trash talk behind my back.
What the fuck is going on in this world.3 -
Worst Monday ever.... going back to work today after a lovely week off. Just checked my emails before I get to the office and I’m already offended by the amount of ‘stupid’ that has happened whilst I’ve been away. Wish me luck, I may have murdered someone by the end of the day!2
-
Signet, the google auth library, is somehow throwing a DivideByZero error, despite the only math in the file being linear back-off (`sleep retry++ * 0.3`). Also, the line it’s getting thrown on very specifically throws an entirely different error: a Signet::AuthorizationError.
What is even going on?
Also this worked yesterday.
🥺10 -
windows update bricked my touchpad.
rebooting bricked my keyboards.
reinstalling windows fixed my keyboards but not my touchpad.
this has been going for a week now.
i'm moving back to linux. maybe i'll try arch this time around.

ps: my touchpad seems to be permanently bricked.26 -
Teacher
I love teaching but I hated school so the thought of going back...
Still teach people stuff when I get the chance. Taught my brother to drive, teaching a friend to drive, bridge knowledge gaps with colleagues, volunteer with the children's programs at my church -
I'm going home!
For the past six months I've been on a contract that has kept me away from my family. On Saturday I will finally be moving back home. I'm elated to be seeing my family again, but I'm scared because I don't have a new job lined up. Wish me luck.1 -
I got rejected over 100 times. Even for internships. Should I continue going self-taught or should I go back to college?
😭😭😭😭😭
I need help..13 -
I'm going on vacation for a week soon. I'm pretty terrified of what's waiting on me when I come back.3
-
Oh god! Why did I change to Ubuntu!!! This machine is running hotter and slower!!! Battery drains faster than ever!
There's no going back to windows 10... looking back, I love windows 10 despite its faults :')
Did anyone else experience the same? First thing I'm doing in the morning is install arch linux11 -
Unpopular personal opinion in 3... 2... 1
The new macbook pro keyboard is my favourite keyboard I've used and any lenovo style keyboard feels like typing on a wet sponge...
Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to crawl back into my hole...25 -
ah this fucking sucks my boss, who is also the guy developing back end for our mobile app which im developing, isnt working on the back end makes me guess the fucking json strings that hes going to send and buils the front end, then later changes the fucking json structure completely and expects my app to work without any problems, how do you teach these fucking php developers the importance and significance of data types and data structures4

All day long I'm adjusting this chair up but it just keeps slowly going back down. Time to go back to a standing desk I guess.
-
Thanks for the stickers guys! The rectangular one will be going on the back of my car and the others on my laptop!2

That feeling when you have 2 linux distros installed on your pc but you still didn't abondon windows totally yet, its like an awkward feeling toward your ex while you are enjoying your new life but you now deep down that there is now going back.4
-
Remember to exercise kids!
My back is dying. Work equipment is great, but at home my posture is screwed from my chair not going high enough and my desk being too high for my arms to be parallel.4 -
Hello everyone, I've returned and hopefully start ranting again.
I took a long needed break to think about a lot of shit and I'm back with a much healthier mindset and plan for myself.
Aside from the world going to hell what's new?5 -
I didn't posted something in a long time so...
TL;DR: FUCK YOU ANDROID STUDIO YOU FUCKING SHIT PIECE OF SOFTWARE
Thank you for your time.
I am running my own meme social network. For quite some time I wished I knew a Android developer, which could help me.
Because I know java I tried it myself, and Android studio is one of the worst programms I've ever seen.
My app crashed the whole time, just because my studio version was 1 behind. Updated studio, everything worked.
My layout wasn't showing correctly, reopened Studio, all layouts deleted.
For no good reason video views aren't resizing, so I need to use exoplayer.
One video on my platform nearly crashes the app when creating a thumbnail.
And so one....
I fucking hate Android studio...
(PS: if your a German, Swiss, Austrian you could check out my network and may become a beta tester of the app)15 -
After 13 months of 12 hour days going back to 7 hours, how will I explain productivity going up... (Been burnt out for last 10 months)4

> Seeing ugly code and annotating to find out who the hell wrote that.
> Seeing your own name.
> Going back to what you were doing...3 -
Actually I am living with my aunt these days. And oflate into so many unsaid-fights with her. Today was off from office. So i didnt want to stay at home(to avoid fights)
I told her I am going somewhere. (Didnt mention the place)
She told she is also going "somewhere".
I ain't know that "somewhere" was same place. Returning back in same car 😑 with radio sound and mouths shut.3 -
Trying to figure out why the damn error keeps appearing - then I realized I was refreshing the /Error page instead of going back to /Login for each of my tests.2
-
It's Friday and you're tired. You're working beyond 8 hrs already. Sure it's paid OT but you want to go home. Just finishing the last 10 API endpoints. But you execute the wrong script the overwrite the directory of the last 10 API endpoints instead of the swagger doc generator script. GRRRrrr.... NO!!!!! T_T2
-
Colleagues who don't think about what they are coding... So I end up going back over their code, fixing bugs, reducing a search page (20 results) from 300 database hits to 150... Previously written by "senior" devs ARGH!!! No wonder the database server is collapsing2
-
Have you heard of "Thunder client"? Meh... That shit is cool. I came across it on my YouTube recommendations, installed and gave it a try. I'm probably not going back to postman.8
-
Another (primarily back end) developer is helping out on my (mostly front end) project amends because I'm too busy with others. Should be a blessing but really I'll have to keep going to check on him or answer questions about the project. :/7
-
After your boss side tracks your udemy course to learn something else and then going back to that course after a month like "wait what the hell is this alien language"
-
Looks like something has been enjoying devrant.😃 I came back today to see how's it's going but I think the admins had had enough 😁9

Starting to learn neural network...
I have been interested in Machine Learing from long time back.
getting the basics corrected now....
Never thought calculas is going to be required in programming.2 -
Teach useful knowledge !
Back in first year of engineering school (most of students weren't going to study CS), the introduction course we had was on recursive functions.
Like WTF.
Try to imagine the faces of guys who had never seen an 'if ... else' in their entire life. -
If you're a recruiter approaching people on linkedin then don't be a fucking idiot and waste their time, get to the fucking point damn it!
No one's interested in going back and forth with you over email especially when you have their number and could be done with it over a phonecall.3 -
It's Monday and I am back in the office. Going to continue the project from where I left on Friday. Fuck so boring shit.
-
I guess it would have been the school choice back then. Teachers were almost all really bad, going though a powerpoint at mad speed instead of making sure we got it, and the other students were elitists: you don't know how to code / use this framework? Why haven't you commit suicide yet?
This school was a big part of how I lost all confidence in myself, and how hard to build it back. And the major actor of my depression. Yay. -
What I should do: Go back to doing construction and get into house flipping
What Id actually do: Be salty AF move to some tropical island and sell italian ice on the beach. I am not going back to construction lol4 -
!rant First code review in the new team, came back with list of helpful suggestions and constructive criticisms. Yep I'm going to like it here. Excited to be learning from the bests.
-
Me: Wrote and unit testing code for a user story.
Day of a Merge
PO: We need to back out the code you wrote. We have not gotten approval from legal.
Me: Uhhh well it's not going live for 4 weeks still and not harming anything but if you insist, ok.....
2 Days Later
PO: Ok legal approved the changes can you put that back in?
Me: 😡🖕🏻1 -
I'd like to use snake case like everywhere. Got that from rust.
Now in typescript, but seeing libraries and baseline core libraries in camel case, I end up going back to camel case.
I guess consistency is more important to me4 -
Today: FUCK RADARE
5 minutes later: FUCK GHIDRA
2 minutes later: God bless both of these wonderful programs, and I finally think I understand what is going on.
2 minutes later: Fuck this, I hate everything, I'm going back to studying hardware shit.1 -
Anyone elsd burned the fuck out?
I fucking am!
What is another career in tech I can move to from developer? Don’t mind going back to school to pick up new skills.
Not even on devrant anyone like I was.4 -
I want to properly get into other programming languages like Java and C#, but I keep going back to Python because it's so much more familiar and I'm comfortable with it. :(
What do? Do others have this kind of problem too?15 -
Project isn’t motivating me but I want to finish it but I can’t finish it because I’m not motivated to do it.
Should I keep going and come back when I feel motivated, or just keep going even though it’s a tough one.6 -
I am so bored with my job in Devops, I only need a few dirty scripts to run everything...
So much so that I started to search for C++ jobs (going back to my previous background), even though I hate C++.
At least it's going to be more mentally stimulating, they also tend to be paid higher than Devops.5 -
There is a pretty large blackout going on.
At one of our customers a 20 years old sun was running. Backup power didn't suffice.
We will see whether the drives spin back up once power is back... -
So after three days FINALLY I was able to make the fragment NOT reload itself when going back to it from the second fragment. Used show() and hide() in fragmentTransaction. Yayyyy! :D14

Well think it's time a go through an reassess myself a little bit...
Going to cut out premade iced coffee (As much as I do love my dare's) and just do homemade to save money and help with my acne...
Potentially start going for walks and do some minor working out if my back will allow it.
Pick up my violin and continue learning it...
And for the biggest hurdle.... I'm going to drop most of my current projects and take what's left, redesign from the ground up and just hammer them out with my nose to the ground and ass in the air...
Time for hell ( '-') ‾\1 -
Feels good to be back! XD In the last few months I took peoples advice and ditched windows went for Kbuntu and 4 months down the line I'm never going back to windows :D

LinkedIn sends me notif about an InMail. I open it via the notif. I close the app. The notif count badge is still on the app icon. I open the app again. Go back to the message. Close the app. Now the badge is gone.
Good going LinkedIn 👌2 -
Going back to C++/C#/Java from Swift is like: What is the point of all these brackets and semicolons?!1

I think I need to cut back on coffee. Maybe yesterday's was extra poyent but don't think I got much sleep last night... And now I'm taking a sick afternoon cuz I think I just crashed...

At the airport with the missus going back home, making time in the duty free. One of the people working on it asked a very dry "what are you looking for?" with no salutation whatsoever. I was this👉👈close to answer "a new job!"

Got my iPhone 7 today an directly proceeded to brick it. Got an issue open with 2nd line support that are going to get back to me tomorrow.3
-
Going from back-end to full-stack is the worst mistake I ever made. Let's say that full-stack is full of half-assed developers who can't write decent UI so if you do well in that department they (management) won't let you touch back-end again. Now all I do is pushing pixels all day. Time for a new job.3
-
I HATE it when client does not know what he wants. Removed a functionality only to be added back again with all the ripples going through the code¡¡¡¡¡
ARGH¡¡¡¡¡¡ FUCK ME
Where's my exclamation mark u shitty SwiftKey keyboard¿¿¿¿1 -
Woke up yesterday to find the OS drive failed in my hypervisor.
24 hours later and amazon prime have delivered a new SSD to get back on track.
Thank god for backups, probably going to setup HA now aswell, but great end to a week :(7 -
Going back to java after over a year of c and cpp.
System.out.println("yeah I still got this");
System.in......what was the console object called again1 -
I've been using Git since 2014. So why do I STILL cringe whenever I have to revert commits or do a hard reset back to HEAD? What's going to disappear? What will remain? Will my entire Git history be vaporized? It's a total game of Russian Roulette to me. So, without the certainty level I want, I just do what feels safer...I grab the versions of the files I think are what I need and stick them back into my repo, then git status and commit the correct changes back in.2
-
Going back to my guilty pleasure and working on my Cosmos based operating system, going to take the shit task of building a scripting language and building some custom libraries to allow people to develop applications, system utilities and even custom shells and graphics managers!
Wish me luck!2 -
Came back to work while being sick due to lack of sickdays. I'm near comatose from headache and coughing going zombie around the office.
PM: How you doing?
Me: Underpaid, overworked and sick. Can't do shit about the latter.1 -
I've had a terrible experience with Visual Studio's GitHub client. Then I found GitKraken. I'm never going back!

Well week 1 with fedora and... yeah think I'll be going back to elementary after giving void linux a go.

The idea of going back to work in an office terrifies me. Like...it really scares me. I really hope things work out even better than I hope and I get to keep working from home while still projecting my career upwards.4

Going back to school to get my degree for Network Security/ Administration.
Which I'm doing right now -
Finally managed to get my website up and running after a week of going back and forth with Hostgator. I'm really excited about it even though I know it's not quite ready and needs more work.
Even so, please have a look and tell me what you think :)

I love when games don't change their mechanics much between installments. That way, when I play later installments and feel like going back to the previous ones, I don't feel so out of touch due to being used to newer features.1

Ever tried explaining GitHub to someone? I swear it's like trying to teach a dog to ride a bike. You can try, but it's probably not going to end well.
Okay, rant over. Back to coding... and dealing with merge conflicts... and pull requests... and GitHub issues... sigh.4 -
After a long year of going back to school for a masters. And working my ass off in networking events and internining. I can finally call myself a data scientist by job :D

Just came back from 3 weeks of holidays. I was so ready to boot into my Linux. Suddenly the windows boot thingie appeared and I was like "dude wtf is going on rn?!". Seems like I installed win10 before leaving 3 weeks ago. Downloading fedora now. Hope it will go fast :)1

Hey guys :D So, finally I have to build a website for a service. That means setting up a server and all that stuff...
What servers do you recommend? Also service for DNS?
Thanks :D14 -
First day at Jetpack Compose: Wow, how cool!
One week of Jetpack Compose: This preview never works right!
One month of Jetpack Compose: Damn! There's no mature component to this shit!
Two months of Jetpack Compose: There's no going back and start using embedded applications as intent.
Don't get into it.4 -
That feeling when you switch from your feature branch to master and it's like going back 50 years in time. All the nice, cool things are missing!

Thinking about going back to school for a potential career change. Has anyone regretted going back to grad school after awhile in the work force?4

Working full time and going back to college......
I got my full time gig in January. This semester I decided to go back for my bachelor's because I only got my associates degree. Honestly balancing the homework and work isnt that bad. It's trying to get ANYTHING ELSE done....like getting and oil change, going to the dentist, etc. I have to use paid time off for all of it now. :(2 -
I DONT KNOW WHY BUT UBUNTU 17.04 SET MY ONLY DISK TO /DEV/SDB, I RAN A DD TO DELETE MY USB DRIVE (I TAUGHT IT WAS /DEV/SDB) AND DELETED ALL MY PARTITIONS! F* THIS SHIT, I'M GOING BACK TO ARCH11

After a 3 weeks break from work and programming, the hardest thing is going back on track. It's day 4 that I have started 'working' and I barely finished any tasks. I keep thinking of the great time I spent on 3 weeks holiday. ;'(1

Wonder what tomorrow will bring?
Monday I fuck up by duplicatung some emails.
Today my colleague accidentally sent emails in our test system out which in turn reduplicated the same emails I sent.
My boss is going to love it when he's back in. -
looking back its going to amaze future generations how stupid we were to waste so many energy related resources on creating a fake currency just so people could pay for hookers.8

The nice thing about being a developer? Learning something new every day. The worst thing about being a developer? Going back to the code you wrote before learning these new things.2

Back at my game engine asset system and thought of a way to store images and recreate them in memory programatically rather than 'unpacking' them... Bu turned a 256kb image into 4MB... How the fuck does this keep happening?!?!
Ugh this shit is going to drive me fucking mental!11 -
Getting hard time to understand std::vector and even more confusing with multidimensional vector.
Going back to array. 😪4 -
I have until Friday to write a service that's going to consume our backend api.
I'm doing it with Python, the back end is in Node. It's going to be the first pyhon service in our company, so everybody is looking at it to see if we could/should do more Python!
Under pressure! -
All right then, my setup as well. I exchanged 2 24" for 1 40" 4k monitor and I'm never going back. Perfect for coding.1

On sick leave, watching commercial news circus and being as laid back as I can. A bit of a panic going on, but after the news I'll go outside and ask employer for the rest of the week off.

Going from Nautilus to Windows Explorer feels like going back to Stone age .. why does Microsoft's modern OS feel so clunky . Btw I love the feel of the new Microsoft office ..4

What is the point of removing code that will literally be added back in on another story? I just don't get it. I am in the code. It took two seconds to fix it but because it is not part of the story that i am working on someone is going back and ripping it out even though the next story is to put it in. Don't fucking complain to me because we are behind on this fucking project.2
-
Going back to a project from a few months ago, a fellow dev has committed 'test this' comments with my name...
Hitting up git blame shows my tests were written 2 weeks before! If you're gonna be passive aggressive, at least do it right :/ -
I am having a weird ass Sunday.
Nanos deleted his account off of Matrix and devRant, apparently after I hurt him in a group chat.
Chonky boii went back 117 days to find a rant, then find my comment and then "slammed" me.
How's yours going?42 -
If it hasn't already one day this app is going to be the reason for a global systems outage. I should be working but for some reason every 5 minutes I find my self back here [*scrolling away*]...

I tried...
I failed...
I give up...
Just going to go back to being selfish now... trying to change others and rally support just ain't my thing and isn't worth my time or energy.
Guess good thing I didn't start on the Collab idea... Not many people would use it...7 -
Oh why must reminiscing be such a horrible thing. Going back to when I was a white hat, didn't do a major amount but oh how the times have changed, makes me feel old and I'm only bloody 20, computers have come a long way in the past 5 years...4

My mechanical keyboard just died :/ Plugged it into my work tower and started smelling "burnt". its a WASD V3, i hope they can ship me just the controller board because shipping the keyboard to the US and back it's going to take a too much time and money...

So I don't know if any of you know what BPA (Business Professionals of America) is (and its okay if you dont because its for highschoolers)
They hold competitions for us each year and Im going to be on my classes web dev team as the back-end python programmer. Weve already assigned everyone to their languages and were going to study so we can be prepared.
For the competition we have a few months to work on a website that actually works, front end, back end and all. There has to be forms and maybe even signup sheets that actually work.
Its really exciting and I'm definitely going to post the adventure of programming it along the way on devRant!!
If you wanna learn more about BPA go to their website, if your curious about what some kids get to experience then I'd suggest checking it out!!! -
What's devRant getting into this weekend?
I think I'm going to jump back on algorithms review and finish this deep dive into docker.3 -
Doing a WPF project for the admins Back Office work. Going smoothly and working, until someone says redo the hole thing, we made DB changes... Why 😢😢😢😢 so much time working to receive this news?1

Was looking forward to this week, since classes were cancelled, was going to begin working on some iOS projects I’ve been holding back on.
Wake up today, and guess what, classes aren’t cancelled anymore.

Going back to coding with earbuds in reminds me why I got noise cancelling over ear headphones in the first place.

I spent the last 3 *fucking* hours trying to get bloody BibLatex working on my machine. fuck me upside down with a rusty chainsaw >:( How hard can it possibly be to get 1 fucking reference working for god's sake!!? Referencing its basically the whole fucking reason people use latex alongside typesetting math, why is it so fucking hard!! And to add insult to injury it was working fine in Overleaf, but i have to go through fucking hours of pointless googling and swearing if i wanna do the exact same thing in TexStudio. Fuck! LateX can go to hell, i could have written so much in this time if only the piece of shit bibtex would cooperate a bit...1

So my exams were going from a long time which kept me back from programming. And I started working on something today again, can't believe I love programming so much. -
Been developing a FAAS backend for a mobile app while going back and forth to work in the train, constantly loosing wifi and failing deployments, it's like waterboarding for geeks4

Getting back into job hunting and job interviews after 2 years of employment is like going back to dating after being married for 5 years.
It feels weird and I'm worried I might be too forward on the questions. But I like how easy to apply for jobs now. Easy one-click apply from my LinkedIn account. Not sure if I should apply for startups or not -
I almost made it an entire day without being drug into some arbitrary meeting. Then I got drug into one about a project that's been on the back burner for three years that I'm not going to have any say in. Almost had it. So close.4

to present an TPS ASP.NET site with target features/objectives for our finals in prog subj
working time: 1 night
and i tell you right now, it's the most shittiest site (front end && back end) i have ever done, and i'm never going back. 1/4 only of our class actually accomplished the target features. -
With COVID going on, we're pretty much stuck at home, so
Vacation = staycation = early retirement
I took off 2wks ago, going back to work next week but it actually felt pretty nice.
Not having to really care about anything or rush to any schedule.
So yes maybe give it a try. Just do whatever it if you imagine yourself doing in retirement.
The difference is your body isn't old and disabled so you can actually do it. -
The problem about being a programmer:
My roommate: "Bro if you're going to the market buy 1 bottle of milk. If they have eggs, bring 6."
I came back with 6 bottles of milk.
Roommate:" Wtf man. Why did you buy 6 bottles of milk."

Well fuck.

Come back from holiday to learn the startup I am working in is not founded anymore... Probably going to have to go through the pain of doing job interviews again...2

Just finished moving all my python code documenation from hand-written wikis to API docstrings and set it up to autodeploy to github pages with each commit. Feeling really hopeful about this, although its going to be frustrating going back to other languages that dont have inline docstrings.1

Just before coming home for Christmas I went to get files off my desktop. No luck, it wouldn't turn on.
So likely going back home to a broken desktop. -
Some days I completely lack the ability to focus on anything.. Much like a gold fish.
Other days, I keep going for hours and effortlessly picks right back up on my track..
So riding the wave & acknowledge when I should slack off and fake it when questioned is my method.. :p -
Sometimes I feel like going back in time and changing some things. If life would have a debugger would know when I am doing a mistake.3

If one day someone asks me to choose between the death of a family's member or going back to develop in a Drupal environment, I honestly wouldn't be able to answer.

A client once asked us to quote rewriting one of their back office applications. He later came back and told us our rates were too high. He was going to look for someone one cheaper but wanted us to manage the development since he valued our opinion.

I swear to god of I have one more developer recommend EMAC to me I'm going to change my career back to marketing with the explicit purpose of rebranding EMAC users as the neck beards among developers! AARRHGHH2

After a long time of not using devRant, I’m back. Is Linuxxx still huge? Is that wonky raven thing still going on? Does everybody have a Tiger now?7

Fuck windows. Says I am managed by a fucking organization on my personal account, so I can't install dev tools. WTF piece of shit.
Going back to linux.3 -
🤤🤤🤤I seriously just spent the whole day trying to fix something that looked like it was ProGuards fault, but it turns out fuckimg Gradle plugin and android studio shat all over every version of every project on my home.
Literally 15 hours wasted.
Defeated in an Uber going back home direct to bed with only a single meal today
Tomorrow can't go worse I guess.
At least I get that going for me.
Hope your day was better -
My final exams are going on and I'm cramming textbooks all day. It's currently midnight and I still have another 50 pages of reading to do. Plus revise everything before the exam tomorrow morning. I'm exhausted! And this is going to continue through Christmas and New Years Day! What the fuck is my University thinking!?
Anyway, I have to go back to finishing this chapter. Just came here to let off some steam. Thanks devRant for seeing me through this.2 -
Previously: https://devrant.com/rants/1207077/...
Talked the bossman, he just asked that I finish the project before being put back on my usual ERP maintainer role.
I agreed to it and the faster this fucking plugin is done, the faster I can go back to my optimization and maintenance project :D -
So I finally got full computer access 2 and a half weeks into working, and now there's "scheduled network downtime" with no indication of when it will be back up. I swear I'm never going to get anything done here

Gotta love Oculus dashboard for developers
Also, I tried uploading 5 screenshot all together, and the loading bar (you can see it in the screenshot) gives informations about the upload progress of the files. but since there are 5 different files, you get the loading bar going back and forth -

Fuck man! Let ME communicate with the other devs who worked on this project. I know you mean well, but when you can't remember the difference between Java and JavaScript, you aren't going to be able to effectively communicate technical details back and forth.

React native just fucked me up. Nothing works. Now I'm rolling back to how the repo was 2 weeks ago, and I'm going to code every single feature I did in the last 2 weeks all over again. FML.

everytime i try to learn kotlin, i can only think WTF is happening, why should it be happening?
after wasting last 4 hours, i came to this conclusion table regarding kotlin var and val notation.
And now my fucking compiler is saying that i can rather write :
val x:Int
and initialize it later, when i thought val is immutable and must be initialized at the beginning only(like public static final int x =5)
Who the fuck are those people that like this stupid language? why would you say some variable as immutable(meaning which can be changed 0 Times "ONCE" ASSIGNED A VALUE ) and when i can create a program with a variable that never got ASSIGNED A VALUE EVEN ONCE??10 -
Totally not going to a coffee shop to code all day and get some space from my family while back from college ..4

I was so happy after I managed to integrate some Python code into Java with Jython. Then I realized the application uses 1200Mb of RAM, it should run on a small home router with 1GB of RAM. Yeah... Giving up Jython and going back to old fashion command-line parsing!2

I hate it when libraries don't support dependencies! And the bloody community doesn't even have an answer, going back nearly three or four years!

Don't get me wrong, I love what I do but I just can't seem to set the intention I need. I know it's just a phase and the love and drive will come back but right now, I just feel I'm going through the motions...2 -
I haven't been developing any web projects for 2-3 years (Since jQuery is the only well known js library). I put my focus on other platforms.
Now I am going to be back again, and there are some angular, vue, and react going on (despite of the other js framework/library #duh).
So, how do I choose between angular, vue, or react? I have no idea.5 -
