New kid came to me in my break (while I was playing LoL) saying I should start coding (he had no clue what my role within the company is).
Said that if I won't get a career in league, I could just (as if it's done in a few minutes) learn coding and make a website with thousands of users (as if that is just done like 1 2 3).
Then with a big grin on his face he proceeded to say "if you ever have some issues with making websites, I could just come to him and he can teach me the basics of Javascript, HTML, CSS and PHP".
So I said: "and who are you?"
He told me his name and what he is going to do within the company.
So I said with a big grin on my face: "Ah, so you're the new kid the boss told me about, nice to meet you, from today on, I'll be your Senior."
I then saw his big grin disappear
then with a big smile on my face I proceeded to say: "If you ever have some issues, please come to see me and I'll be happy to teach you the basics of Javascript, HTML, PHP and CSS"
Then he walked away :^)26 -
HTML: Hate This Meaningless Life
CSS: Can't Style Shit
JS: Just Shit
Java: Just another vicious asshole
PHP: PHP Hates People
Go: (the "fuck yourself" is silent)
.NET: Now Everybody Thinks (they can code)
I really should find a more productive thing to do on my breaks.19 -
HTML - hot tomato monkey language
CSS - crazy stupid script
PHP - per hour pay
JS - just scream
JAVA - just a valid acronym
C# - see sharply
Objective C - OOP cash
C - cash
C++ - cash++19 -

You know what's the difference between
- static page written purely in HTML with inline styling
and
- dynamic page generated in PHP, that actually loads data from MySQL database and is correctly styled in separate CSS document
on national level exam necessary to earn a title of technician?
ONE HACKING PERCENT!
Ok, backstory. So, few days ago I got results from that exam. To be honest, it was very, very easy so I wasn't worried at all, unlike some of my classmates who just don't understand programming at all (you need at least 75% to pass). Our task was to create database, write website in PHP that shows contents of that database and use CSS to give it a look that of example web page and run it on XAMPP. I've got result of 96% and while I was wandering what I've done wrong i hear my colleague almost screaming with joy "I passed! And I haven't even touched PHP. I was soooo sure I'll fail." So I asked him what's his result and he says 95%. And then another colleague said he got 95% without PHP. So, in other words what I thought to be the main task was worth 1%. Apparently, what was more important was for the page to look identical to the example, so I guess some examiners didn't even look into the source. And don't get me wrong, I don't wish my classmates had failed. That's not why I'm ranting. But why in the name of Ada Lovelace the task said to use PHP and all that if it weren't supposed to check our knowledge of programming in PHP? Sometimes I think the people who design these tests don't even know what they're doing.10 -
When you are creating new design for your website and everything works fine and then you see that you browser is zoomed on 150%😫😭6

My Senior php backend team leader told me I could choose a new laptop, he said:
"You could always choose a mac, and be a real developer"
mean while I was already downloading ubuntu, and replied
"No thanks, I don't do html/css"11 -
Youtube, codecademy, w3schools, stackoverflow, etc.
Started with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript until WordPress introduced me to PHP. It was hate at first sight.5 -
It's done! Network printer and scanner, hosted by a Raspberry Pi Zero W. I used CUPS to host the printer, but the scanner was much more difficult. I installed apache2 on the Pi to host a HTML front-end that I wrote. Once you set up the scan, the front-end makes an AJAX call to a PHP script, which then calls my Python script that does the scanning and converting. Once that's done, it returns the file name via the AJAX call, then the front-end downloads the scanned PDF on the computer. I even managed to impress my girlfriend, who didn't really understand what I was doing until I showed her the end result 😄
I might try to pipe the output of the conversion straight back via AJAX, to be downloaded without a second call.9 -
C#? Should have used Java
Java? So much boilerplate, use node
JavaScript? Terrible language, get some types
Typescript? Lipstick on a pig
PHP? Gross
React? Should have used Angular
Angular? Should have used Vue
Vue? Why aren't you using jQuery + HTML
VSCode? Use vim instead
Stfu, no one gives a shit about your biased closed minded opinion. Your users really don't care what technology you use, so long as they're happy.14 -
I had a coworker used to write PHP pages in this way:
<?php
echo "<html>";
echo "<head>";
// 2000+ lines of un-indented nightmares
I tried suggesting him to keep the HTML outside php tags as much as possible and I stressed out that adding some indentation to the code would have improved readability. I also sent him an example of my code created using an IDE with auto-indent functionality.
His creepy answer was: «Readability is subjective. Anyway I'll try to get used to the sinusoidal trend of your code.»11 -
Okay it's called devRant - so I'll rant...
Why the fuck do people write comments like that:
$savesThisStuff = "stuff"; # does save stuff
Why are here 1500 lines from which there are 700 outcommented code and 300 dead functions which aren't called anywhere?
Why the fuck is here PHP code which generates JavaScript inline which itself generates STATIC (!!) HTML.
------
"Always code like the one maintaining your code next is a violent murderer with an axe and you'll still be save."
... Where's my axe again?9 -
I'm working on my own code editor with 'multiplayer', option to draw stuff, option to design algorithm schemes, option to browse SQLite databases and most importantly - I've based entire interface on HTML/CSS/JS and entire backend on C# and PHP, so it works both online (via browser) and offline (via program).
Tell me whatchu think, it's still work in progress.
(I've removed the name of it so when I share this project with my future employer, he doesn't connect the dots)16 -
If programming languages had honest slogans, what would they be?
-C : Because fuck you.
-C++ : Fuck this.(- Dan Allen )
-Visual Basic : 10 times as big but only 5 times as stupid.
-Lisp : You’re all idiots.
-JavaScript : You guys know I’m holding up the internet, right ?
-Scala : That was a waste of 4 weeks.
-Go : Tell me about it, Scala.
-Python : All we are saying, is give un-typed a chance.
-R : Whoa, I was supposed to be a statistics package!
-Java : Like a Roomba, you guess it’s OK but none of your friends use it.
-PHP : Do Not Resuscitate.
-Perl : PHP, take me with you.
-Swift : Nobody knows.
-HTML : No.
-CSS : I said no.
-XML : Stop.

Hello there, just couple of words about PHP. I've been develop on PHP more than 10 years, I've seen it all 3,4,5,{6},7. Yes PHP was not good in terms of engineering and patterns, but it was simple, it was the most simple language for web to start those days. It was simple as you put code into file, upload it via FTP and it works. No java servlets, no unix consoles, no nothing, just shared hosting account was enough to host site, or even application with database. As database everybody used to have mysql, again because its simple to start and easy to maintain. So PHP+MySQL became industry standard on Web during 00-2012, and continues in some way.
You can write HTML and logic inside single file, within php code, even more single file may content few pages, or even kind of framework. That simplicity and agility sticks everybody who wants to develop sites with PHP.
This is pretty much about why it is so popular.
Each good or wannabe PHP developer in an early days write its own framework or library (like in javascript this days because of nodejs)
Imagine that PHP has hadn't have package manager, developers used to have host packages on their own sites, then various packages catalog sites created, and then finally composer. A gazillions of php code had spread over internet, without any kind of dependency control. To include libraries to your projects you have to just write include, or require. Some developers do it better than others.
So what we have ? A lots of code, no repositories, zip archives with libraries, no dependency control.
Project that uses that kind of code are still alive even today, they are solid hose of cards, and unmaintainable of course.
And main question that I'm trying to answer is Why PHP is not good ?
- First is amount of legacy code which people copy and pasted into their project, spread it even more like a virus.
- Lack of industry standards at the beginning lead to a lots of bad practices among developers. PHP code usually smells.
open source php projects in early days was developed in same conditions so even in phpbb, phpnuke, wordpress, drupal used to have a lot of bad practices in their codebase. So php developers usually not study by another library, instead they write their own frameworks/libraries.
- "It works", - there are no strong business demands, on web development, again because lack of standards, and concerns.
This three things are basically same, they linked to each other and summarize of answer of why PHP have strong smells and everybody yelling against it.
Whats is with PHP nowadays ? Of course PHP today is more influenced by good practice of webdev. Composer, Zend, Laravel, Yii, Symphony and language it self became more adult so to say, but developers...
People who never tried anything except PHP are usually weaker in programming and ecosystem knowledge than people who tried something else, python, perl, ruby, c for instance.
Summary
PHP as any other programming language is a tool. Each tool has its own task. Consider this and your task requirements and PHP can be just good enough solution.
"PHP is shit" - usually you heard that from people who never write strong applications on PHP and haven't used any good tools like Symphony or Laravel.
Cheap developers, - the bigger community, the more chance to hire cheap developers, and more chance to get bad code. That can be applied on any other language.
PHP has professionals developers, usually they have not only php on scope.
That's all folks, this is very brief, I am not covering php usage early days in details, but this is good enough to understand the point.
Enjoy.8 -
Noob mistake, forgot the rename an HTML file to a .php file; was wondering why things weren't working at all.2

Wanted to make a website with some of my friends about whatever kid thing we were into at the time. None of our parents cared, it was the 90s and nobody took the internet seriously.
Copied and pasted bits of html into notepad and FTPed them to some free webhost over dialup. The website lasted three weeks -- my friends got bored, I got hooked.
A few years later I found myself wondering why some websites used ".php" instead of ".html". I discovered this shiny new thing called PHP 4. Built a website for some video game I was into using it. Spent the next two years teaching myself everything there was to know.
Took programming in high school. Chose CS over mechanical engineering because I liked the university better. Got an internship which turned into a job which turned into a career.1 -
I fucking hate websites that refuse to show their content unless you enable their JS clusterfuck. Yes I am blocking JavaScript because I'm sick of all those goddamn frameworks from God knows what domain. IS THAT FUCKING WRONG?!! I don't hate front-end devs, in fact I respect them for keeping up with design needs of shitty clients. But that fucking Web 2.0 with 50 frameworks per tab and no HTML or even PHP whatsoever for those who block your JS crap.. shove it right up your fucking ass!!!19
-
Yep, you need to know c++, php, HTML, CMS, and </> to become an Android developer.
Not java.
That's not important.
I love sponsored content. Always accurate.10 -
Oh boy.
I recently, I switched job for an open source company in Lyon, FR.
They had struggles to find me something to do (still has, tbh), so they sent me to a client of theirs, to help for a biiiiig project that's really old (created in 2001)
The thing was... Horrible. Lots of styles were set via JavaScript without condition, I found 3 different versions of jQuery, at one time they added Object oriented development in a context where they had HTML, JS, (inline) CSS and... PHP of course, inside of one PHP file. The architecture was more "uuuh these files in this directory will be about this functionality".
And it goes on forever. I told them that I hadn't the required level of PHP knowledge to have an excuse to get the fuck out of there, my company didn't like it but it was either that or my mental health.3 -
Them: My company is looking for a junior C++ programmer. FUCK PHP!!!
We were trying to go live with a big online shop, it is connected through a crappy API to SAP.
PHP keeps outputting fucking errors because our intern doesn't fucking know how to properly write PHP.
YEAH, JUST FUCKING RETURN A WHOLE DIFFERENT TYPE OF DATA IF THE FUNCTION HAS AN ERROR.
Oh and using fucking strtr( ... ) to insert stuff in a string is REALLY FUCKING 1337...
And when you think the whole fuckery has reached the summit, just look at how HE FUCKING CREATED THE UGLY EMAIL TEMPLATE:
$content .= "UGLY HTML ABOMINATION";
$content .= "MORE UGLY HTML";
$content .= "HTML WITH SPELLING ERRORS";
$content .= "<table>";
$content .= "TEARS OF TIM BERNERS LEE";
$content .= "<table>HE FOGOT THE FUCKING '/'";
and dozens more of these lines...
and the whole piece for ALL 3 FUCKING LANGUAGES...
Thanks for writing the fucking backend stuff, it is better to rewrite the whole piece.19 -

Mine is: Alignment, Better Comments, change-case, Colonize, CSS Peek, DotENV, File Utils, GitLens (my favorite!), Gulp Snippets, JS-CSS-HTML Formatter, Laravel 5 Snippets, Laravel Blade Snippets, Material Icon Theme, npm Intellisense, Numbered Bookmarks, Path Intellisense, PHP Debug, PHP DocBlocker, PHP Intelephense, PHP IntelliSense, Prettify JSON, Quokka.js, snippet-creator, Vetur.
Feels like there are redundant extensions here that I need to uninstall.

Switching between Mac and Windows and always getting confused with key placements and shortcuts :c9

When this year started I didn't have much knowledge of server side programming as web developer, only thing I knew was html/css. But this year I got started with:
- PHP
- Framework Phalcon (PHP)
- Javascript (jQuery, NodeJS, react)
- SASS (I can't without it anymore)
- Virtual Hosts (local development)
- Command Line stuff either in macOs and linux ubuntu
This is a huge deal for me because I always got laughed at I only wrote CSS and couldn't write anything else.
So knowledge-wise it was the most productive year ever.
Also, devRant helps me get through the day lately. Thank you for being a part of it!6 -
Hours spent figuring how a select (dropdown) was created plus the whole flow of an app.
Me: "They won't be so stupid to get the whole html via ajax"
Me: *facepalms" they did
Me: Discovers the ajax call is handle via a giant switch statement
Me: All html is handled in memory
Me: Discovers the now Director of Development did it
Me: *Dev Rants*
You: Check my previous rant and confirm it8 -
Yesterday I was told to not mix HTML with PHP.
My reaction:
Why not? And how else should I do?
Don't get a answer to this.10 -
Aaaah, I fucking love it to death, when customers spontaneously decide to hire a separate, unrelated company to add new content pages to the website developed by our company.
That furuncle of a company must have had real pro devs to just create a new /html folder, dump their shit content in there and just manually add links in the existing CMS pages.
HOLY FUCK!
As you might already have expected, the /html folder contains:
- static *.html files for every page
- inline CSS in the *.html
- the crappiest PHP mailing script I have ever witnessed
- images with random resolutions, mostly too small
The layout of these puke-ridden pages obviously doesn't fit neither the existing color palette, nor has anything common with the current layout or typography at all.
These bastards don't even use Git!
Come on, dear customer, could you PLEASE fucking NOT hire a completely separate company to do OUR job?
PLEASE? PLEASE?!
I had to compare the whole deployment folder with our repo to find out what else these brain-damaged cunts changed in our code!3 -
When you're asked to extend a functionality on a piece of code and the 2.5k lines in the view are a juicy mix of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the functionality relying on jQuery trasversing through the document tree and expecting things to be in their place. Oh did I mention html build with strings in JS? I'm going to love this day! WHY, JUST WHY?! *gasp*3
-
My own personal hell was a html page that had a script tag that called a rest endpoint that sent back a text block of JavaScript that was then dynamically executed to redirect the user to a php 3 page that was the exact same thing as the original page but with an extra bit of css to make the buttons blue and slightly rounded
You can’t make this shit up6 -
Made a Website.
What this friendly old Lady wanted: a update to her poem/song website that looked horrible.
What she got: A goddamn masterpiece considering there is NO backend and I got nearly no ressources to work with.
It took forever to put that stuff together since I thought I dont need any frameworks at all. I didnt know PHP at all back then, so I just went all out with everything that pure HTML and CSS could give me.
I even went outside to make nice photos to put into the Background.
....so, he said no PHP or anything? YES! If you wanna add content you change the HTML and upload stuff via Filezilla. I dont really want to see it ever again. But not because it looks bad.
I know, its not really coding since its HTML but I Count this!rant html counts here wk182 please dont hate me not even a script kiddy wannabe webdesigner mistakes were made1 -
You know you learned a lot in the last year when you try to change something on a website you made 1 year ago and it is almost impossible.
The code is not well structured. PHP mixed with HTML, functions that should be organized as a class etc.
I really, really, need to refactor the entire site!4 -
They gave me a file, .php, that was the entire webapp. THE ENTIRE THING IN A SINGLE FILE. It's frustrating that I have to organize this before I even start working on my tasks.
I guess its not super horrible since it's a rookie project but it's still horribly and unnecessarily time consuming.5 -
OMFG! Who’s bright fucking horrible stupid ass idea was it to mix Ajax with php (php deciding the ajax paths) with random js outputting HTML inside random fucking static divs found no where near the logical route of content.
Trying to add a simple fucking status to a gigantic cluster fuck of a legacy project is just FUCK.
If I could I would burn this bitch to the ground and start again I would, But no, it’s needed.
Someone kill me before I break the shit out of this thing, I would take a wordpress project right now instead. -

HTML, CSS, JS, jQuery, PHP, Typo3 with some Typoscript

4 hours! four fucking hours! f.o.u.r. h.o.u.r.s.!
It's the amount in the time domain this bug has cost me to fix. The cost in the sanity domain is immeasurable...
I swear, the god damn ass births of devs who coded this abomination should be slowly mutilated and then raped by their own severed limbs.
It took me 4 hours to figure out that their 12 year old binary CLI tool they used to generate PDFs from PHP could not handle neither HTML5 nor some linebreaks at specific places. Some part of it is due to them using REGEX to find and replace HTML tag.
Yes, I am indeed very pissed. And I need a 🥃 or 3
What we learned:
- Don't use REGEX to "parse" HTML
- Don't call random compiled CLI tools from PHP if there are PHP packages to do the same shit9 -
I need bleach...
Lot of bleach.
When you think that not using a JS framework is bad...
Ever saw a Frankenstein of a HTML, PHP and JQuery? Full rewrite of an old project with more than enough time allowed....
Just... That was not awful enough.
*sobs* so the dev added bootstrap onto this pile of garbage... Instead of rewrite....
Think I missed CSS or included it in HTML? Lol. No.
No CSS. Inline. HTML 4 Tags.

What's your favorite IDE to use and why?
I saw a little IntelliJ hate on another rant, but so far it has been pretty useful for me, I only need 1 IDE for Java/PHP/HTML/Python/JS/SQL
Pic unrelated, just for attention and the LOL's19 -
I started doing a little HTML coding for a training site I wanted to build for my employer. Every time I thought "there must be a way to do this..." There was! It was so rewarding to build something by myself that I kept going into CSS and JavaScript, then PHP, and now Python. A few months ago I could just about code a hyperlink and make some bold text, so I'm quite proud of how far I've come :)1

Phew... okay, I think it's time for me to go to bed. I just coded two webpages in HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP, everything works great and I also added some smooth animations when you hover over parts of the page :D
Basically... this last part (a.k.a. "smooth animations") was useless to this exercise, but... y'know... i was interested in experimenting it.
The more I code, the more I think I should be a design guy, lol.
Anyways... jeez, I really should go... it's 2:50 AM right now @.@
Goodnight y'all... 💙

Fuck this completely abysmal CMS!!!!
Not even god damn Einstein would be smart enough to understand this stinky pile of legacy code!
No, it's not enough to write an HTML template in PHP with less than 500 lines of code, noooooo, every god damn template HAS TO BE AT LEAST 3000 FUCKING LINES OF CODE WITH RANDOM INCLUDES EVERYWHERE!!!
Every fucking thing I fix spawns at least 2 new bugs! I FUCKING CAN'T!!!
I swear, if I meet these fucking worms of developers... someone will eat fresh turds mixed with puke from a highway toilet!17 -
So a friend of mine is starting to learn PHP and HTML and he tells me:
"I wrote some code in HTML but I can't run it through the browser"
I'm not brave enough to tell him you can't "run" HTML
But later, he told me "so now i'm writing PHP just to understand how it works, but don't want to install the program to run PHP"
How the fuck you gonna learn?
I already know I'm gonna have to build what he wants to do :/ at least a couple thousand euros incoming :D2 -
that moment when the client reports a bug on the website, and you ask if they cleared the cache, but you fix the bug in the meantime...6

Visual Basic at high-school, pascal and C and Java at University. VBA for macros on a job. html+css+js learnt o er a weekend to pass the screening for a new job, then ruby and php on that job to build internal tools. Now I am into python for data science. It has been fun.1

Big IT consulting company ask us (small web agency) to develop the "html" code for a web app for their client. (They'll want the front-end to implement it in Cordova or other shit tools they use).
I had to use some "includes" in php, for header and footer, because for 50 pages it'll be tedious to edit a thing (the design is not definitive yet) without open all the .html files individually and replicate the edits in all the pages.
We've delivered the package containing all the pages and a "inc" folder for the header and the footer. The pages have the extension *.php
Their pm ask us why we didn't do it in html, since they expected that.
What the fuck is wrong with you?5 -
Doing a full rewrite from some DIY spaghetti framework: when it can't find a search query it returns "false" with the status code 200, the same php file responsible for querying an external api is put into all sorts of named folders, so e.g. a user that is in the results page X can continue searching on the same URL, instead of doing proper url rewrites or ajax calls to the one in the root directory, html is thrown into every other php line, a DIY sort function for a numbers array that fails to sort 0 before 1 and that all is just a 10 minute review, can't wait to see the rest.2

This was actually written by a Junior of mine (and if it wasn't for me having to review it, it would have made it to production):
- Admi password was just an MD5 in the javascript.
- Javascript would validate the password input.
- Javascript would then send a POST request to a PHP script.
- On display, the HTML of the news article wasn't HTML escaped.
My brain: "Let's just send this XSS vector to this PHP script"4 -

Went to hackathon...created meteor/react mobile app and fell in love!
Now I have to go back to work and work with blan html/CSS and my favorite php(which I absolutely despise) -
Back then, I was just about a "computer guru" and friends would often ask me stuff about hardware.
One of them came to me and asked if I could make a website. I accepted despite knowing nothing about html, css, js or PHP.
I then hopped on a tutorial about html and css, and pretty much learned the basics of html in a day, then added some css and got introduced to PHP "as a way to prevent yourself from copy pasting the same bits of html everywhere".
Turned out the client wanted a CMS, which I couldn't do, then I decided I would go to a design/it school. Before finishing my 'studies' (accelerated apprenticeship), I already landed my today's job. As I'm not a "real dev" (more a self taught guy), I'm learning stuff everyday, and today I am comfortable with back end and front end web development
Code is addicting, even more than gaming!3 -
This is a true story. We had this subject, called “Web Design” (really, “design”), where we studied HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL (confusing, right?). And when we get the PHP (e-)book, it was this old PDF (probably downloaded illegally) teaching the legacy 4.0 version of PHP. Anyway, when we had to develop the final project, the sane professor allowed us to use a newer version of PHP — 5.2, released on 2008. I had to follow the rules, so I developed probably the less secure web application I will ever develop. That means no protection from SQL injection, XSS vulnerable and a bunch of other security holes… And that’s how they liked it developed!3

Just had my first freelance job here i Korea. I was told that most(?) of my job was going to be front-end web dev, and that the 'required' skillset was html/css. I thought I'd be making some free money, and I was wrong. Ended up doing all sorts of things like sql,js,ajax, php, and EVEN design. Apparently "developers" here are people who can do pretty much everything on computers. How many other countries are like this?12

What To Learn?
I'm a beginner in web development and have knowledge about html, css, JavaScript, jQuery, Sass, NodeJS, Express, MongoDB, Passport. You can consider me to be a beginner full stack developer, but I'm confused about what to learn further. There are so many front end frameworks that one can spend his entire life learning them. React, Vue, Angular, Backbone, etc. But I always want to learn backend properly, then there's Rails, PHP, SQL, Python. Can anyone atleast tell me what to learn and why exactly? This thing's making me mad and anxious.24 -
That moment you have a designer fix something on the project you working on and pushes conflicts to your repository..
-
Authors of articles that say PHP is past because "it doesn't separate concerns" and "it just spits out HTML within logic"… please don't write about something you don't know1
-
so here I am, at 3 in the morning on my tablet and I think, "Yes I too would like to join the pain of web development" so I download sololearn apps for html, JavaScript, CSS, SQL, and PHP.
WTF brain?!?! 😂4 -
I don't know what to do with my life anymore, as a self taught web developer, I started like anybody doing HTML, CSS and js, and then I met PHP and WordPress.
why the fuck PHP is ugly ? and why WordPress is uglier ? I tried to learn how to build a simple plugin in WordPress but the hooks system make me want to kill my self, how the fuck PHP powers 80% of the web ? every time I write PHP I wish I was never born, the problem is that I can't change job because I am old and I live in a fucking country who is technologically primitive, they fucking know only PHP and JAVA, no Node, No Ruby, No Python, only fucking PHP.
I learned React, I learned Node but you know what I did this last year ? I raped a themeforest theme for about dozen plus websites, A SINGLE THEME FOR MORE THAN DOZEN CLIENTS, my boss does not care, only me who is not sleeping at night because a tried to customize a Prestashop theme and it gave me cramps in the stomach, I feel depressed and useless, I want to quite my job but I can't, I have mouths to feed, WHY THE FUCK DID I FELL IN LOVE WITH PROGRAMMING, I was happy fixing computers, what can I do if the only project that I have are WordPress and Prestashop?
how did you do to stay sane when working with wordpress and prestashop ? are you not human ?I can't take it anymore.
I need a new road map, fuck it I will focus only on JS and Node and fuck PHP.10 -
When your friend is making some money posting links for download movies in his wordpress site and you got nothing knowing html, javascript, css, less, php, asp.net, java, python, ruby, node.js, angular, react.js...2
-
I don't want to do web development for much longer....as in, i wanna stop fucking around with php, java, python, chashtag and whatnot and focus more on systems development. I would not mind writting servers and playing with the web as long as I don't have to see a line of html or css any longer.4

Prof introducing a batch of non-programmers to JavaScript.
Me: Ha! I'm going to ace this class.
Disclosure: Its an Art school, We're studying Multimedia Arts, and we have a couple of Web Development classes that focus on html, css, js, and php. (and I have been a web developer for 4 years)2 -
I have this web development course(on the university), and we are not allowed to use javascript. Only php, html and css. FML16

Learned HTML with a 50ct book from a 1 €-shop. Got interested in forums and learned PHP by analyzing phpBB and Itschi (you probably don't know the latter). Learned Java through school though it was only the basics. Now I'm a full stack developer at a Norwegian company. Fully self-taught.1

Got contacted for a job "interview" by a company because they were looking for "people with my skill set". All my profiles say I am a fullstack web dev with experience in frontend js frameworks and js and php backend frameworks.
Come in to find the "interview" is an exam. Ok, fine. My brain could do with some exercise.
After the basic IQ type questions, I get the web dev exam.
It is 95% of the questions are about CSS and HTML basics.
WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK.7 -
One of the devs at my internship company decided to have a client's website load all of it's pages from the website's Database.
That's right, a PAGE as a database row!
And I don't mean having it get some of the info from the columns and putting it into the page's html with php or some shit. No, I mean an actual html file copy pasted and added into the database.
This company scares me sometimes.1 -
Age 8 - Gets first computer and struggles with dial up Internet and my parents yelling at that they ended to use the phone
Ages 12 to 18 - Gets first laptop, starts messing around and interested in websites, gets involved with SMF, and open source message board system written in Php, and starts helping people out, eventually getting paid work for setting up websites etc.. which lead onto learning html/CSS and picking up bits and pieces of Php (and also Photoshop/Illustrator etc..)
Age 18 - Goes to college to study Multimedia, refreshes knowledge of HTML/CSS, learns a bit of Actionscript and some PHP
Age 20 - finishes Multimedia degree, ends up working as an IT consultant for a small business, which leads me to pick up a bit of bash scripting, small hit more PHP. Leaves this after 3months and decides to do a small Software Dev course. Get my first taste of Java and Visual Basic there
21 - Enter into a Software Dev degree. Dive deep into Java and a small bit of Javascript.
23 - After 2nd year of college get taken on an internship with a large multinational where I learn and get hands on experience with Angular, JS, Coffeescript and C#
Present Day - currently coming up to the end of my degree and can switch between Java, C#, Python, Coffeescript/Javascript (front-end or Node) , C and Golang, C and Python introductions from college modules which I kept playing with in my spare time, Golang I just heard of and decided to write a few things in it because why not, I've picked up various frameworks (spring, echo, express etc.) at some point. I basically learn by doing, if something interests me and I enjoy it, I seem to pick it up quickly by diving in and trying to use it.1 -
[CMS Of Doom™]
Ah, yes, their built-in bullshit newsletter module just sent the n-th user n emails. Wonderful considering n=368.
The culprit? Better don't ask...
OK, anyway: So the mailer is running as a CRONjob, but nah, not as a console script call but by a public HTTP GET URL call, fucking obviously (it's the CMS Of Doom for a reason).
So these fucking imbeciles "implemented" an ob_start() callback where HTML links are - for whatever fucking reason - modified by some regex (obviously everybody knows parsing HTML by Regex is trivial). In this case the link was somehow modified to recall the mailer Cronjob...
This must have upset the pngoing mailing process thus spamming mails. Whyyyy
And I've thought I've seen it all after 6 months in this legacy hell...
This is why you don't run a company consisting of only beginners in PHP (in cluding their "CEO")! -
installed apache, php, mysql in linux tried first file in var/www/html/test/index.php wrote following lines there "<?php echo 'hello world'; ".
Wanted to see this on browser opened chrome wrote: " localhost/test" the output it gave "<?php echo 'hello world'; "13 -
This one just popped into my head. A little late but still pretty idiotic.
So in college, shortly after we learned HTML, CSS, PHP and some very basic JS (and various other things ofc) we had to choose which study direction we wanted to go.
This included web development.
My brilliant classmate asked me the following around that time: "after all the webdev stuff they taught us, I don't know what more they can teach us"
So yeah..........
Idiot1 -
I wouldn't mind PHP that much if HTML templates with it weren't such verbose and borderline illegible nightmares 😢😢😢2
-
I just spent a whole day learning wordpress cause it's mandatory for my graduation project and I'm still not quite sure what I'm doing.
I'm proficient with HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP enough to make the damn thing in less than a day, yet here I am strugling with the damn plugins and themes... It just looks too chaotic for me.6 -
So I'm kind of a fledgling webdev. Where would I go to learn how to do backend in order to do logins, manage inventory, create posts, that kind of thing?
I know a little bit of PHP, HTML, and CSS, but only enough to make static pages... it's kind of bad...1 -
Today, I had a small, but funny conversation with a person I knew from my education (application developing).
He suddenly asked, how to prevent using HTML-Tags in PHP.
So I send ihm following line:
$string = str_replace(array("<", ">"), array("<", ">"), $string);
Shortly after the line, he asked, how to add this into his query, which looks like:
$query = "INSERT INTO comments (name, email, quote, hinzugefuegt, ip_adress) VALUES ('" . $_POST['vName'] . "', '" . $_POST['eMail'] . "', '" . $_POST['q17'] . "', NOW(), '" . $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] . "')";
Now I thought: "Well, he don't even secure his variables", and I posted a Pastebin, which only "fixes" his issue with replacing the HTML-Tags, but still allows SQL injection.
https://pastebin.com/kfXGje4h
Maybe I'm a bad person, but he doesn't deserve it otherwise, because when I was still in education with him, I told him, he should learn to use prepared statements.3 -
10 years ago my bosses came to me: Make a few adjustments to the logic of this website. Should be a quick thing they said. Got a zip file later. Hundreds of php files. Inside, thousands of lines of the best PHP/HTML Spaghetti I've ever seen. No CSS though, but lots of nested table layouts. The best part: everything was in french, content, comments, varnames. The original dev didn't use includes for the most repetitive stuff, even db credentials were copied in every file. Took me a week.
Two weeks later: Change that and that please....
We decided to write everything from scratch then. -
I started a new project and only use PHP, HTML, CSS and vanilla JS. No Frameworks. No React. No Vue.
The browser loads the page instantly, there is virtually no loading time and it just works.12 -
So I started doing PHP, HTML and CSS a week ago. And I once started a codecademy course in JS.
I can consider myself a full stack web dev now? Right?
(Every "WordPress dev" ever (and me😀))2 -
I've got an offer from college development team to make a school website with them.
I've no idea of web dev except HTML, CSS, basic js and PHP.
Should I get in?3 -
just found out a vulnerability in the website of the 3rd best high school in my country.
TL;DR: they had burried in some folders a c99 shell.
i am a begginer html/sql/php guy and really was looking into learning a bit here and there about them because i really like problem solving and found out ctfs mainly focus on this part of programming. i am a c++ programmer which does school contest like programming problems and i really enjoy them.
now back on topic.
with this urge to learn more web programming i said to myself what other method to learn better than real life sites! so i did just that. i first checked my school site. right click. inspect element. it seemed the site was made with wordpress. after looking more into the html code for the site i concluded all the images and files i could see on the site were from a folder on the server named 'wp-content/uploads'. i checked the folder. and here it got interesting. i did a get request on the site. saw the details. then i checked the site. bingo! there are 3 folders named '2017', '2018', '2019'. i said to myself: 'i am god.'
i could literally see all the announcements they have made from 2017-2019. and they were organised by month!!! my curiosity to see everything got me to the final destination.
with this adrenaline i thought about another site. in my city i have the 3rd most acclaimed high school in the country. what about checking their security?
so i typed the web address. looked around. again, right click, inspect element and looked around the source code. this time i was more lucky. this site is handmade!!! i was soooo happy because with my school's site i was restricted with what they have made with wordpress and i don't have much experience with it.
amd so i began looking what request the site made for the logos and other links. it seemed all the other links on the site were with this format: www.site.com/index.php?home. and i was very confused and still am. is this referencing some part of the site in the index.php file? is the whole site written inside the index.php file and with the question mark you just get to a part of the site? i don't really get it.
so nothing interesting inside the networking tab, just some stylesheets for the site's design i guess. i switched to the debugger tab and holy moly!! yes, it had that tree structure. very familiar. just like a project inside codeblocks or something familiar with it. and then it clicked me. there was the index.php file! and there was another folder from which i've seen nothing from the network tab. i finally got a lead!! i returned in the network tab, did a request to see the spgm folder and boooom a site appeared and i saw some files and folders from 2016. there was a spgm.js file and a spgm.php file. there was a contrib, flavors, gal and lang folders. then it once again clicked me! the lang folder was las updated this year in february. so i checked the folder and there were some files named lang with the extension named after their language and these files were last updated in 2016 so i left them alone. but there was this little snitch, this little 650K file named after the name of the school's site with the extension '.php' aaaaand it was last modified this year!!!! i was so excited! i thought i found a secret and different design of the site or something completely else! i clicked it and at first i was scared there was this black/red theme going on my screen and something was a little odd. there were no school announcements or event, nononoooo. this was still a tree structured view. at the top of the site it's written '!c99Shell v. 1.0...'
this was a big nono. i saw i could acces all kinds of folders. then i switched to the normal school website and tried to access a folder i have seen named userfiles and got a 403 forbidden error. wopsie. i then switched to the c99 shell website and tried to access the userfiles folder and my boy showed all of its contents. it was nakeeed naked. like very naked. and in the userfiles folder there were all, but i mean ALL files and folders they have on the server. there were a file with the salary of each job available in the school. some announcements. there was a list with all the students which failed classes. there were folders for contests they held. it was an absolute mess and i couldn't believe it.
i stopped and looked at the monitor. what have i done? just to learn some web programming i just leaked the server of the 3rd most famous high school in my country. image a black hat which would have seriously caused more damage. currently i am writing an email to the school to updrage their security because it is reaaaaly bad.
and the journy didn't end here. i 'hacked' the site 2 days ago and just now i thought about writing an email to the school. after i found i could access the WHOLE server i searched for the real attacker so if you want to knkw how this one went let me know in the comments.
sorry for the long post, but couldn't held it anymore13 -
Hello everyone.
So, i am thinking about where to get lists of programming languages, frameworks and softwares that is fundamental. For example:
If i would like to develop a web site. I would use html, css, js & php. Maybe a site or frameworks for reference and 'roadmap'. I want to become a good programmer.6 -
So, I'm working on my programming blog.
What do you guys think? - just don't be too harsh, I'm terrible with designing stuff.

Instructor: "and now here we can write this while loop in ph- oh wait. Let me just show you a cool trick. I am gonna close this php tag with ?> , open an html tag , then again open this php tag , add this line, close it, then again close html tag, then again open php, and then close it. pretty crazy huh? You see, now we can have our cool bootstrap displaying this output beautifully"
Me : FUCK YOU MAN :|
for reference, this was the final output :

<?php
while($row = mysqli_fetch_assoc($result_successful)){
?>
<pre> <?php print_r($row); ?> </pre>

I am a newbie in web dev who comes from a very nice java/kotlin world. is this a common site in web dev, mixing of all the html/php/some 1000 more laguages and frameworks to make 1 working product? coz it sucks.11 -
best place to ask stupid developing questions is?
For example: I've been developing in html, css, jquery, PHP for the longest time and I think it's time to learn node.js and / or react. Where should I start?3 -
Man im alt tabbing between
Php Laravel, Typescript ionic, Html design
for last 20hours ... No i havent slept
Neglecting the fact that i have autism from the equation,It Seems to me that im doing a lot of hardwork..
Can i call myself a full stack developer ???
Plz ... pretty plz....10 -
That feeling when you write a ton of code, dont's save it before cause you are stupid... and then while you are trying to save it your lapotop freezes3

I find it so difficult naming my classes, and Id’s in html and naming my variables in both JS and PHP. They are either too short and vague, or too long and specific. Haha Sometimes I wonder if I should use underscores or camelcase :( hard choices! >.<1
-
Trying to dig back into a project that's been shelved for a couple of months....
Feeling like: WTF was I doing? -
- why did you enter test data text value with this <script> html? Don't do that. Use normal text
this is something I've never expected to hear from a php/react dev.... I'm truly disappointed. I really am.
On top of that he refused to follow my recommendations to google: "xss". Another teammate had to google for him and drop a link.
Just when I was about to like working with this guy.... :(5 -
Hello and welcome come to hell for developers. Take a seat at any open computer.
You may have noticed we did away with the fire and brimstone.
Instead we just have you maintain the legacy code from your first job.
It's genrally html, php, javascript, and css all on the same page and all mixed together.
We would say have fun, but that's not really the point.2 -
I started out as a data entry guy. I learned VBA because dealing with thousands of products in excel by hand was a pain in the ass. Among other things, I wrote a macro to combine multiple products into an importable Magento custom product. From there I learned HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP and never looked back.1
-
Got some Freelance work(PHP) via my friend so i said ok lets see. Those were some college students and wanted their project to be deployed that their seniors built and none of them knew how to fix the issues so here i step in.
Nightmare of a design, no signs of framework, html/css looks like it was designed by a 10th grader, no prepared queries, every file uses db config seperately so a minor change would require me to edit those 50+ php files... overall a broken mess. FML.5 -
I've always been a tech fan. Made my first site when I was 12, but I stopped at HTML and CSS. Now I started coding, and here I am - 24y/o studying pointers in C. I don't even php.
Am I too late? How old were you when you first started coding?9 -
Session Management in HTML/PHP be Like:
JUST PUT THAT FUCKING SESSION ID AS HIDDEN INPUT IN EVERY FUCKING FORM!!!
BECAUSE WHY NOT JUST SPAM IT WHY IS THERE NO GOOD FUCKING WAY TO HIDE A SESSION KEY WITHOUT COOKIES5 -
Mixing PHP and HTML code with a bunch of if-elses, creating a docker-compose script thats uses the remote database password (and its committed) and set API calls to IP fucking addresses with no explanation. Just make POST requests to undocumented APIs.
How the fuck are these people allowed to code?????3 -
Does anyone know a good book for learning PHP? I want to know more about back-end development and would like some recommendations. I've been programming mostly in Java before and also have experience with SQL, HTML and CSS.
If anyone could suggest a book or any kind of advice I would really appreciate it. I've found some interesting ones online like "PHP & MySQL Web Development – by Luke Welling & Laura Thompson", but would like to hear out first people who know more about this programming language.6 -
At my last job I was the only one who knew PHP, SQL, and Bash (for managing the linux server through SSH). I wrote PHP modules for their CMS that they still use today. I was hired as an intern and made $8 an hour.

Html imports. Polyfil. Hey. Reading, this is awesome. <link rel=“import” href=“control.html”> what could be simpler? Deprecated front end. But only need it for developing. Will combine the files at the end.
Estimate converting php to pure html, couple of days.
Go to use it with polyfill (webcompnents.js htmlimport). Doesn’t work.
Try the light components. Doesn’t work.
Try server-side polymer. Doesn’t work.
So much documentation about it working. Then finally come across shadow dom and how html imports are associated with them.
Hell no they aren’t. They are completely different things. Oh. Google packaged them together? No one could agree on shadow dom, and its now going away? Taking the pure html way of combining files into one page with it???
Spent an entire freaking day. But got 8 lines of code and <link rel=“fetch” ...> to do the same thing.
Why hasn’t this been an html standard for say...years. Why can’t the server do a handshake with the client and serve one page (php-ish) if the feature isn’t supported. Otherwise multiple files asyc. I mean. This is a fundamental part of pwa’s.
Why are these obviously smart people so stupid??? Deploy you shitty shadow dom without this obviously useful feature...2 -
Ever had to work with a Web backend, which is written in C++, has 30000 lines of code and is contains php, JQUERY, HTML as well as a desktop UI? I have to do that right now. Now, I am not the most experienced dev with Web stuff but this is fucking ridiculous.2
-
Got a bad question here. I've got my homepage (login + some archives with access permission) which I made in HTML + php (yeah I know). But I just hate how php looks. So I'd like to rewrite that whole little bastard now using some other language (not php obviously). What do you recommend? Which Lang's/frameworks are being used. I heard python and java spring were good but I wanted to hear the opinion of some real devs I guess. I'm rather a back end dude (c++) but I think it would be useful to learn some web programming too (not interested in fancy animations and shit, just a good ol' single colored site that displays the content)2
-
so I'm a level developer and I haven't really worked with WordPress that much however I am experienced in HTML CSS PHP JavaScript xcetera and I'm looking to get into WordPress cuz I don't really want to make a cms through laravel Paloma tutorials I found on making more precise of way to beginner and don't really explain a lot. What I don't understand is how the pages work. I'm using a basic bootstrap theme. However I am unaware how to just make a basic home page using HTML it looks like it's using posts and stuff. so my question is is there a tutorial online either video or written meant for people who have already done web development and want to move over to wordpress.3

In an average day, how many different languages do you use?
For example my previous job was strictly C and Python.
My current job involves Python, C#, VB, PHP, SQL, HTML/CSS, JS. It's rare but quite possibly I could touch all these on a single day.12 -
Reason to hate my D grade engineering college.
1st lecture of web development.
(Syllabus html,css,PHP)
Expectation : at least teacher will introduce fucking web development technologies.
Reality:
Teacher=> look I don't know anything about PHP so learn from web. I will give you internal marks just submit assignment on time.

Btw it is not story.3 -
Wanting to get into reactjs but no idea where to start, I'm coming from straight php/html/css and JavaScript.
Any ideas where to start, articles to read / examples to play with or check out?7 -
Sooo... Yesterday i read like every post on StackOverflow that explains several possible reasons why my form_validation was always false. In php. It is a project for college so today i asked my teacher to have a look at it. He simply said "cant, no time."
LITTERALY after he let me alone with my code, i find that the variables that were on the form of the html file were all diferent of what was supposed. And after change it back.. it started working.1 -
Just noticed a job description.
"You have excellent skills in JavaScript, HTML, CSS and backend development with PHP and MySQL. You also have experience developing for iOS and Android."
Are these requirements realistic?3 -
Was hiring a front-end dev once. Job ad was for basic html/css and graphic design skills. Perfect part-time job for intern or high school kid to get their feet wet. Boss sits in on interview and after I asked all the necessary questions related to position, boss starts asking him programming related questions similar to my position. (php, Mysql, apis, managing vps, custom shopping cart code )
Way to drop a bomb on a kid who is potentially interested in working here. -
My fascination for programming began around 13, when i started developing plugins for my minecraft server in java.
Had an awesome time with creating plugins for some fully custom servers with relatively large playerbases(50-200 players, depended on the time of the day).
This sparked something in me, and i started creating crapp ass "portfolio" sites for myself with php and mysql login and registration forms. After that I got into some basic c# abd had fun with some cute console/form applications.
And here comes today, in the process of picking up more css, php, html, js knowledge, probably heading towards react or vue.
I just love programming to death. -
Hell is working on a file 4000 lines long file containing html css php and sql with inconsistent coding conventions2
-
Because of a ridiculous strict server environment (where even PHP was not allowed) he proposed that I could connect over Skype to do my stuff in typo3, which than could be exported to plain html to run on their server.
SSH or even remote desktop would be to insecure.3 -
I remember studying up on web dev by myself, got advanced into php and all frontend stuff js, jquery, css, html. Coz all jobs in the country wanted those exact stuff. I got a job, 1.5 years later tried to look for other jobs, everyone wanted react, angular, vue, node... fucking market outdates u as u are working. Dont u hate that6
-
it was the last time i used PHP for an school project. i and an other group decided to make an website. it was luck that no input was required. Because i already knew PHP and HTML i need to help them. the code they made was the cause i quit php. the site only worked after an redirect. it was irony that tje code looked like it was written from a junkey and the theme was drugs.7
-
Went from notepad++(and it’s mac equivalent Brackets) to Dreamweaver CC and VS Code.
Feels good man!11 -
I do front end development.
Front end web developers are NOT web designers
I repeat I am NOT a web designer
I'm just salty that job listings always want web designers that also know front end development. -
I got stuck in a shitty situatuion in which i have to choose between being a front-end+mobile developper and back-end. I have to answer my company today, the problem is that i like both domains.
HELP !!!8 -
Started learning html, css and php after i found out that using templates on wix.com isnt actualy creating websites
-
i had to write some js and css / html for a small project that i work on Django.
GODDAMIT I FUCKIN HATE IT MY HEAD HURTS WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT
FUCK IT
LEAVE ME ALONE WITH MY GOD LOVELY PYTHON
OR ANY BACKEND LAGNUAGE(except php of course)
jesus christ i almost threw the goddamn pc out of the window.
fuck front end.11 -
When your project starts off well structured, but ends up like a pile of goo. I need more experience it seems.
-
I guess it all started for me in the summer of 8th grade when I was 14. I saw all these javascript snippets for invisionfree forums, started learning javascript and html. later on I went into php development to make a arcade, it was pretty cool learning experience cause it used curl to login with invisionfree forums. a few years after that I got into c++ and I knew programing was what I was going to do the rest of my life cause there's no end to it
-
For the past week I've been rewriting an application with just pure php, html, js and css (with a sprinkle of bootstrap), and I gotta say that in this new modern world of frameworks & CMSs, it feels great building a "problem solving" application with nothing but my bare hands!4

Not promotional, I'm just a user that loves this App.
I already talked about this a few times (usually I just call the cell phone I'm using my web server), but as a noob I don't even knot the possibilities.
This App comes with more then 70 protocols (60+ servers and a mix of servers).

Everything startest with HTML. I got an awesome book about HTML/CSS and I just started learning and trying out some stuff. At the beginning I got a lot of help from my father but soon I created my own websites! I setup a free webserver and after some time, I met PHP. I made tons of stuff with PHP :)
After about 1 year of creating things with PHP, I learned Javascript. And with Javascript I got into game development. I created some games but I wanted more. So I tried Unity Engine. But... well... It was hard. Then I tried Godot Engine and I finally found a game engine wich I enjoy!
I created a lot of games.
Then in 2016 I met Lua, wich is my favourite language now! (But I didn't do much with it)
Later I also met Node.js but I'm still learning :)1 -
a web developer job post ask for html/css/javascript php/asp.net
me: what are your opinions about that job post? 😀😀
IT friend: that's ridiculous! ! , they ask for being proficient in 5 programming languages. 😲😲
me : 😮😮
then
me: 😱😱2 -
I meet a CEO of a company. Having attitude like he knows everything. And give speech on any topic. But speech won't match the topic at any condition.
I meet him I asked what project do u have and all.... He showed me some website projects... With source code it was fine to me...
The thing is before showing the website project. I asked him in which backend language Website are developed...
Answer: php. I ohh php ok.
And he suddenly replied we have also used HTML & CSS.. 😵 😵 I was shocked I thought wtf?? how can a website can be developed without HTML & CSS...3 -
When I was studying web integrator.
At first I didn't even know html, yet alone what a php tag or extension meant.
I quickly caught onto it though and started to grasp that the procedural stuff they taught was really outdated.
So I researched intensely and eventually whipped up my very own php framework.
- if you're interested, it lives on github.com:sasin91/php-framework
Obviously it's a pile of fungal infested dung.
but ey, I was light years ahead of the rest of the class.
Besides, we all gotta stackoverflow somewhere :) -
Im a new self taught programmer and i need some advice on where i should go next to become a web developer.
I already know python and c#.
I learned html, css, js, php, sql.
What else can i learn?19 -
Commodore 64 and manuals when I was 5. Then qbasic on a 286 my dad got from work when I was 6. Been programming since, to Borland c/c++, php, html etc. Worked with most languages since.1
-
hey devs, i'm a web dev, i'm honestly tired with php, js, html, css, looking for some cool recommendations to learn n enhance skills19
-
I started in Lua in a program called AMS (it made autorun programs but has full scripting support making it pretty powerful) making little software applications.
That evolved into PHP and shortly after JS, HTML and CSS.
After a while i added other languages and it continues to grow today.
The UI aspect has just been something i have always had an eye for. -
Imposter syndrome.
A question guys, I'm a web dev since 2012, started with php, then shifted to frontend, for 3 years my main was PHP and basic HTML CSS, in 2017 I shifted to / did courses on vuejs, angular and react (loved angular the most) also laravel. Have also dabbled a bit in python, for crawling and mining. The problem is I've never worked with a team or for a full fledged Dev company, so I'm unsure as to how to judge my growth and whether I'm moving in the right direction. I feel like I need a lot better understanding of Linux usage and server control, or should I learn nativescript etc.
What do you suggest? Should I simply look for a mentorship program, if yes any clue where?4 -
Guys, which code editor is better for PHP/JS/HTML/CSS? I mean, with more addons, code completion, and so on..
Atom? Sublime? Brackets? VS Code?
Thanks!21 -
If anybody even cares I use sublime for HTML, CSS, JS and php and IntelliJ for Java... even tho idk why would even anyone care soooo
bye -
After my first ever "thing" I wrote (see story here: https://devrant.com/rants/2132057/...) fast forward 7 years to my first project when I /* thought I */ knew what I was doing and didn't write just for myself.
Preset:
I worked in a very small company distributing various materials for medical research, many of them bought from manufacturers and then relabelled as if we had produced it. One part of that was to indicate a production batch / lot number. Before I started there, they would just invent a random number on the spot and use that on the new label and somewhere write it down to document that, I at least used an Excel sheet to have numbers prepared and document it on the same line (still crappy but more than nothing). After some time my boss got the idea to have all of that documented in MS Access (because that was the only database he knew). I had just started with HTML, PHP and MySQL in apprentice school around the same time, so I proposed writing an appropriate solution using those and got permission.
-----
I started coding and learnt so much that I didn't need to pay attention at school anymore as I was years ahead of the curriculum (the others were struggling with If-statements and the likes).
When I was done with Version 1.0 of my web application, it was of course still crude as hell. I used html forms to save input (like editor.php -> submit to save.php, do save -> redirect to editor.php), but it did what had not been done before: keeping it all together and force people to do it properly. 2 years later I wrote a version 2, adding features that showed to be useful and with improved structure, as my last project before leaving, and as far as I know, they are still using it, which is at this point 2 years after I've left.
Looking back I would do it differently, but for what I knew back then it was not bad at all.2 -
!Rant
Yes, I know I'm shameless, but here we go:
Are there any norwegian devs out there that are looking for a new colleague (webdev)? :D
I'm going to be out of work in a few months time, and have started applying for jobs in the Oslo area, but most jobs I see listed require 3+ years of experience. I've worked with web for about 9 months and I'm keen to get more experience. Interested in a full time job or being a trainee.
Proficient in HTML, CSS/SASS, JavaScript/jQuery, PHP, Wordpress, MySQL.
If yoy know anything, please let me know :)5 -
1. Reading eBook “Beginners in vb6”
2. Made a calculator with vb6 to help me in Math homework
3. Made few other desktop apps on vb6 for fun
4. Got interested in Websites so started with WYSIWYG Microsoft FrontPage
5. Started learning frontend and backend coding from WYSIWYG Dreamweaver (HTML, CSS, jQuery, MySQL and PHP)
6. Then custom coding on Sublime. Made around 6 side projects (HTML, CSS, jQuery, MySQL and PHP)
7. Started learning core JavaScript and followed by other programming languages
8. Interest came in making Android and iOS apps. I learnt Java and Swift for it
9. Now I span between Web and Mobile Apps -
At school during my free time I work on random coding projects, and I get at least one person say to one of their friends " Oh! He's hacking!" And they say it like I can't hear it. Then I always get someone asking me "What language is that?" So I say the language, usually Python, Java, or PHP, next they say "Oh I program in HTML." I really want to tell him that HTML isn't programming, but I really don't want to waste my breath.
I wish people would mind their own fucking buisness, or at least know what your fucking talking about before you open your mouth.
🦆2 -
I'm not a Wordpress pro, but i've done some work on it and... well, the HTML + PHP mix is the only evidence you need to convince someone, there is no god, only satan, but other then that, it's hard to find anything else that your clients will accept & can use. And yes it's the most important thing - at the end of day, they are the one giving you money.
Besides:
- the Wordpress dev community is pretty cool.
- everything has been invented, so the development is pretty easy.
- if you have something more fancy to do, there is always a Wordpress API.
PS - fuck HTML + PHP mix.1 -
Question:
I've just learned html, css, php.
JavaScript and SQL i know from Before. I have used VS since the day i started programming. For all My languages ever! The thing is that My HTML/css placement skills are a huge time stealer. I waste 90% OF webdev time to just get things to the right place even with bootstrap css. Write->compile->write...... So My question is IF i should change program for writing html/css to à more visual/interactive editor or stay with VS and hopefully i become pro designer soon.3 -
To the friend ranting about having to copy pseudo code on paper, I feel your pain. Analog IT professors are the worst.
I raise you one with : I had a professor that had me sent in source code files, a pdf with all the source code and a paper printout of every single line of code for a html/php project. Fifty pages of code printed for reasons I cannot understand. And no, I checked later, he didn't ask for it to take notes during the exam.5 -
Some companies: asking for a developer, must have 5 years of experience. Must know C#, php and Python. Also expert in html css react angular and vue. Salary: scrubs. Haha good look looking for the ultimate developer senior for €1800 a month :’)1
-
Just had my first lesson of the course Web Development. We got an explanation of what html, css, js and php are. Nothing bad ever happened from repeating what you already know, so yeah..
But then came the horror: We need to make a website in FUCKING WORDPRESS!! I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO BUILD A FUCKING WEBSITE WITHOUT A FUCKING SHIT CMS!!
So I showed the teacher my personal website and asked if I could use and/or extend that. They loved it, but I still need to build a website using fucking wordpress!! Not even using php! No, we need to build it with the UI of wordpress.
I know that's not even hard. It's just.. WORDPRESS!!
I guess I'll just have to live with it :/2 -
I just released a new Laravel package. The concept behind it is to use PHP for everything, so you no longer have to write HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. No more constant file and context switching. It also allows you to create and use components in the same way you would with JavaScript libraries like React or Vue.
It's called Malzahar. A magic PHP framework. Build reactive web apps without writing HTML, CSS, or JavaScript! Powered by Tailwind, Alpine, Laravel, & Livewire.

Thanks for checking it out.6 -
Surely I can't be the only one curious enough to start this discussion; so what's everyone's backgrounds?
I'm sure we're all under the assumption that we're all developers of some sort and like to rant about what we do-- hence the app name-- but what does everyone do? Such as what you make, what you've made, your skill set and a little info about yourself
Myself, I'm a 21 year old male from the North West of England. My name isn't actually Markshall, it's Mark, but I'm a huge fan of Eminem so it's a play on my name on his (Marshall).
I'm primarily focused on web development but I started programming at the age of 11ish in Visual Basic 6 and found the web development was my chosen area of expertise. I know the obvious HTML and CSS, but also know PHP and JavaScript and have lots of experience with MySQL databases and rather extensive knowledge of the jQuery library -- yes, I do know it's a library and not a separate language before people get pissy!
I'm not yet employed by a web development company, I work in retail whilst I freelance my web development skills
I have an online portfolio at http://mark-eriksson.com (needs a little updating-- not all my projects are on there and you're unable to view any information about them)
I write code in Brackets (http://brackets.io) on my 21.5" iMac. I use Google Chrome and have iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. PS4 player. Vodka and Jack Daniels enthusiast.
So, what about you?
Side note: devRant needs an edit feature :-(12 -
Currently trying to start learning C#, to build a plugin for an ERP System called Uniconta. Something samiliar to Microsoft C5.
Been wanting to learn C# etc for a long time, and now, I suppose I found my motivation.
So, how'd you guys start? I could try to download their examples, and start manipulating. But is that the right way to go around it? :)
At this moment I only have knowledge in web dev, such as HTML, CSS, JS, PHP etc.
Thanks in advance4 -
at the age of 12 I was bored so I started with html as I wanted to make a website, at the age of 14-15 is started with pure php, at 16 I started my first IT study for second line support and at 18-19 I finished my first IT study and started my second IT study for support mangement and when I'm done with it I'm planning on doing a third one for data center engineering.
-
I took a project. Wild mix of php and html including db stuff and data processing. About 200 files, some 3000+ lines long with if else cases processed in another template/logic behemoth...
I wrote a js file included it at the footer of the monster and update dom + data via ajax on my own api implementation because I'm too afraid to write in any of those files.
I've been told its quality code and well documented3 -
When your boss wants to use a WordPress plugin (online reservation system) but ended up customizing (client's requirements) it because of its limitation and wants you to finish it for a week because the client need it ASAP but adding those features will take a month to implement.2

Hey guys!!
So... there are already a few sites, web apps and stuff related to Devrant out there.
Like the DevRant banner and stuff...
Can you please tell me/us about stuff what we already have and what people already made?
Thank you.
PS.: I'm needing a project urgently, I'll be making a DevRant portal today with all the stuff you say here, even if it's just for me. need the distraction.
some Html, PHP, CSS, and Bulma, didn't finish a project like this yet, it's time.
Thanks for your support so far guys.12 -
So here is the question.
Am a CS student and interested in app development languages like C++ and C#. And leaning a lot about those languages and practicing.
Today in our class some member from **** company came and they told us that are going to arrange a 2 days workshop for php, JS, Ajax, HTML and CSS languages. After that they are going to offer a internship also. 😃
So should I go or not?
Intrested in app development but still wanted to have knowledge about web. Really confused on what to do! 😕😕😕8 -
I used to think that programming was just straight forward coding what you need.
But now I think it's describing the problem and writing code to solve that problem.
Example: recursive function. It calls itself till it finds a solution or till no options are left. You don't know the answer, but you code something that can find it for you.
Or php, you don't create every single html page, that's done by php dynamically.
The great thing is, it's less work and it is easier to catch error scenarios.
The bad thing is it has become a bit more abstract. -
What's a reasonable salary for a Junior Web Dev with 3 years experience in London?
PHP
MYSQL
HTML
CSS
Javascript
Thanks12 -
Devrant, can you recommend me a good IDE for PHP/Javascript/HTML that is not NetBeans? It decided to become unusable overnight and I need a backup IDE so I can keep working.13
-
When you see someone bragging about how he created his own framework because he hates frameworks like Symfony and Laravel but when your take a look in his code he echoes html from within the php files...3
-
TIL: Php embedded in an HTML file couldn't care less if it's commented out. Such an unsatisfying solution to a two days "Why do all my calls get executed twice slightly different" bug hunt. I'd have liked my initial theory of a haunted server much more...
-
Dear colleagues, could you please recommend your preferred HTML to DOCX conversion library for PHP?
I really don't have 200$+ to spare for a library.3 -
I know this has been before but what is better to use for HTML CSS JavaScript and PHP, Sublime or another text editor?6
-
Finally enrolled in a c# programming course!
I've got somewhat of a knowledge in html and css and was wondering for a long time if I should go Javascript or Php, but got an advice that c# will give me a broader understanding of programming.
Can't wait to learn! :) -
I really do like VSCode but it is still lacking some features that i find essential.
There is no intellisense when for HTML in a PHP File. Although CSS Autocompletion works in HTMl Files. Quite Annoying2 -
When the Javascript you're working on works fine the first few times; then inexplicably starts throwing an error and breaking on one box while continuing to work on another....
-
Is it OK to put HTML code into PHP? I just did it and I feel like I'm doing a terrible abomination9
-
Well, Uhm I have this instructor in Web Programming that throughout the whole semester, what he only thought was html and css. We never tackled PHP nor Javascript, SMH.
-
Good Old Times...
My mothers boyfriend bought me my own website when I turned ten.
He then taught me how to program HTML and PHP.
Until this time I wanted to become musician or teacher when I grew up. Now I'm nearly finished with my scholarship and about to become a programmer.
(Fun fact: the old website can still be seen on archive.org) -
Learned php all by myself, started with session to add stuff to an HTML web site a friend did. Took me a while to write hideous code, I had a chance to look at the code a couple years later.
-
30 years old PHP code (PHP 5.3). One big global variable holding system settings, entire row sets of data! and database cursors. Oh and HTML was mixed in between. Worst part, I had the task to secure the application. Sql injection didnt even exist back then.2

Internship Title : Database building
Skill(s) required: Java, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, Python, SQL, Bootstamp and Adobe Flash and CCNA
Yes, you read it correct, Bootstamp
WHHHHYYYYYY ???3 -
Learned some BASIC using C64 and Amstrad CPC back in the days, mostly from reading computer magazines and books. Then fast forward a gazillion years, and replace Basic with HTML, Lingo, Actionscript and eventually PHP, JS, CSS. Thank you, Google.
-
In the old days of Internet Explorer 6, Html 4 and bad gifs I decided to understand the meaning of an obscure (to me) file extension: html.
I was about 11. Soon transitioned to PHP, and fell into the rabbit hole of computer science. -
I come from a simple html, css background with a bit knowledge in php and some simple cms.
Decided to use a modern cms to learn something new... -
I have a friend who always talks about coding on his whatsapp status, he even posted a screenshot of a mobile app he allegedly was working on. So, i asked him what language he uses to Develop Mobile apps (not web apps) and he said, html, css and php. I am a beginner in programming, i know java, python, dart and Javascript can be used to develop mobile apps, can we also use html, css and php to develop mobile apps?8
-
How many languages do you really know... I'd say 7 for myself
"Html" "CSS" JavaScript php "SQL" c# Julia c++ python
bit of c an java (count them as 0.5)
Get on my level 😉 seriously thou, what would you guys say you really know?33 -
What is your opinion on best text editor for HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and SQL and with built in FTP?
Seriously in need of a good editor 😑31 -
Working on a project for 2 months now, and still got another 2 to go. I am doing all the work since creating and managing the database, all the html, css, js and php needed, dealing with the client, go to meetings, etc... The client paid my "boss" €4000 and my "boss" is only gonna pay me 12.5% of it.2

jinja templates make me look towards html in a whole new light. are we 'inserting' data to an already rendered page? am i really mixing server code with ui ? It doesn't feel so. there are if else and loops being executed for html code, like wtf?
I don't know but everything feels so good. like i was literally hating every piece of website i was writing in php. everytime i wrote <div>....</div> followed by <?php ... ?> followed by another html tag /php tag in a fuckin php file, i wanted to kill someone from w3c.
WHY THE FUCK ARE WE ALLOWING THE MIXUP ?WHY IS PHP FILE HOLDING HTM TAGS? WHY?WHY?WHY?
But this... this is beauty. their is separation of concerns. jinja has some big powers, we can loop, repeat, make clauses, inherit other html classes, load html content into blocks, set variables,
but main concepts like file handling, response/request handling, calculations, etc are all being done in separate python files. I know that these jinja templates also might be running python in background, but atleast a developer cannot fuck up that code.
we can be sure that if correct jinja codes are written in html, then it would load correctly. And wherever devs doesn't fuck up, the output is better to understand and more maintainable/scaleable3 -
Hey guys, need help from some web devs. I have few stores and I coded a php/html table for reporting purposes. I don't like that table, also its not responsive on mobile phone. Any advice how could I change the layout up?14
-
Fuck encoding and fuck PHP!!!
I'm programming a little vocab trainer to get used to php and MySQL. From an old VB vocab trainer I had ca. 2000 txt-files with words and converted them to sql-queries with a simple python script. When SELECTING words with special characters they become encoded properly. But if I UPDATE words their encoding is just fucked up... The table is utf-8 encoded all the columns are utf-8 encoded. The php mysqli connection is utf-8 encoded. My HTML header is utf-8... WTF? -
I started with js and html about 13 years doing some basic html pages with a mate in school for an IT teacher then PHP about 10 Years ago with the help of PHPFreaks forum and C#/Java about 7 years ago in college
-
I have several php+html+css websites and up until now was working on them directly from ftp. I would like to introduce version control (github) but dont know how to go about it. My webhosting has cpanel and if Im not mistaken it should accept deployment from github. How I should go about it?4

So this semester we started to explore how to create interface using html php and so on.Bonus marks will be given for project that have interface.Because we are too excited about the interface we forget the main objectives were update, delete, insert and record.. 🙃🤣

!rant apologies
I am a third year computer science student and I'm interested to see how professionals think I stack up against grads they have worked with straight from uni.
I have spent 15 months at a web company working on bespoke solo products on LAMP stacks. I know html, css, JavaScript and its library JQuery very well (I know JavaScript is massive to be saying I know it well)
I am reasonable at PHP and MySQL. Currently I am studying node.js and building an api that mashes up data from other APIs to build a new service. I'm also working on a C# Microsoft framework bespoke website. I know git to a reasonable level - branches, merges, rollbacks and all that jazz.
I am also studying development architectures to try and be more useful.
So if you guys came across a new grad that knew HTML, css, JavaScript, JQuery, maybe angular js, PHP, basic Linux commands, MySQL, C#, dev architectures, agile methods, node.js, git and has 15 months experience working on small to medium sized solo projects would you want to hire them?
Point to note I'll probably graduate first class (80%+) from a mid range uni.
Sorry, I know this is not the place but I like this community.5 -
Pushing/pulling a hundred times for a single new feature just because you always forget that little thing.
-
He was not reslly my dev-teacher, he was a math/physics teacher. But he had an after school an it workshop. That was the first place where i really worked with development. I was just a bit with html, php and LEGO mindstorms but it helped me with my knowledge. He is one of the best teachers in my school. Without him I would probably making windows and doors.
-
When you're done with your WordPress site but still gotta upload it via FTP and it literally takes up your entire day.4
-
I'd like to dive deep into web development.
I'm creating a little tool for myself on a web page, including server-side php, css, html, mysql and jquery, all just for fun and the experience.
I've got several ideas on how I want this tool to work and behave ...
But it's fucking difficult to wrap my head around all those technologies available. I don't know how to achieve certain things (yet) and what even to look out for😣
Fun fact: I already experimented with HTML, CSS, jQuery before as a noob. Yet today I've forgotten almost everything and need to start almost all over again, now even including PHP and MySQL, too.
This is gonna be fine. 😐 -
i am a B.Tech 3rd year student.Last month i started learning Php web development,also learnt HTML &CSS.
i struggled during the starting days but became quite comfortable with back-end development using Php,MySQLi, and JS.
But my concern is my Placements. I have seen students getting hired by top IT companies on the basis of their ranking in COMPETITIVE PROGRAMMING like codechef, hakerrank etc.
My question is that should i continue doing Web Development or should i invest time in competitive programming and stop doing web development?5 -
Started collaborating on a friend's project.
Just pulled a crazy stupid hack just to get it to work as intended.
<input type="text" name="page" value="somepage" style="display:none">
My friend and I are still loling at this.7 -
So i was trying to learn php from a udemy course. The guy there mixes a hell lot of php with html, like all the pages are .php with html content and mini <?php ... ?> Scripts in between everywhere: titles, swl queries running and displaying outputs as html with echo php variables, etc..
Now am not much versed with client server data model, but isn't there supposed to be clear distinction between the server side and the client side? He puts a form there using echo "html string" , rrcieves the form input in the string's action , runs an sql query and generates another set of html strings. All in one file.
Is it how major php websites work? On the other hand My web dev friend om who works a lot with js usually runs 2 seperate aws instances for frontend and backend and makes them communicate via apis9 -
!rant && advise
I have some expirience working as full stack developer, but focussed latly mainly on backend (php/java). However for one project, I need a desktop application and I was wondering, if you would recommend electron for it.
Pros:
- I could reuse some of the webapp stuff and cache it offline using web workers
- Styling done via HTML/CSS
- Portable between Linux/Windows/Mac
Cons:
- I haven't worked (much) with node js so far, but that shouldn't be a too big problem
What are the pros and cons from your point of view? Would you recommend electron? Why yes, why no? If no, what would you reccomend as alternative?
My knowledge so far:
Good: PHP/Java (without GUI)/CSS
Quite good: Javascript
Meh: Python (I can hack things together but wouldn't say I'm good with it...), C++8 -
Coz a question like this in SO will get me banned......
I know HTML, CSS, JS, React in frontend.
I know Java as backend including database connectivity and all.
Should i learn a more demanding backend language lile PHP?
Or should I further learn frontend technologies like Angular, D3.js, and other frameworks?15 -
While shopping with my mom when I was 10 (that was 10 years ago…) I found a book called 'Andy\'s HTML'. That book got me started.
Followed by Wordpress later, couldn't stand that for long and quickly went over to real PHP projects. Eventually landed on Android because of school.
Good ol' times. -
I have a technical job interview via phone call later today and would like some advice on what to prepare for.
The role is Junior Web Developer and here is what's expected of me:
- Good knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Some knowledge of Javascript
- Some experience with a PHP framework such as Laravel
- Some experience developing themes for content management systems such as WordPress
- Basic familiarity with Git or other VCS
Those are fairly low requirements and I meet or exceed them individually but just want to ensure I prepare properly.
What can I expect?3 -
Recommended packages for Atom for PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL development to make my life easier? Autocomplete, preview, etc.?5

I started with html and php with xampp, with the selfhtml in a packaged version.
After this came a language called Lite-C (basically a gaming engine with some stuff abstracted).
After that came again a phase with php/html with some of these small free hosters.
After that my IT specialist training started and i switched to python and now im into golang.2 -
actually it wasn't mine. But it affected me. So we had a project website on wordpress and wanted to rewrite the theme. everything went well to the Point of production. Site is fine locally, at testing and on stage. On production we still see old, a bit broken old version, but only on homepage. Wtf. Nothing helped. After couple of hours later we found out, that the admin was updating php version and he left html shot at production, which was taking over.

I can't find a complete answer to this question, maybe this community has one:
Does putting an html file, with pure html code (without any php), as .php have any impact (or is processed differently) on the server load compared to simple .html?
Of course, if the content doesn't contain any php code to be processed it doesn't affect the performance, but the simple fact of declaring it as .php cause a different processing root on the server to output the same html result?
I'm aware that if there is any impact, not sure yet, tt's probably negligible, but I'm just curious about the backend root followed.
So, anyone know how exactly these two scenarios are handled (step by step) by the server?
1) Request of pure html as .html.
2) Request of pure html as .php.
My instinct says there must be an additional step in the second scenario to interpret and search for php code to execute.
There is? And does it have any calculatable impact, that multiples for X requests (ignoring caching) and depends of the length of the file?
Thanks5 -
Learned HTML in 7th from my sister's web designing book(she was doing some course from institute), then in 10 class met with C++, Sql because they were in the course, in college first year met with PHP as my roommate was searching how to do phishing attack, then met C++ and after that Java, Javascrip, Android development, Javascript and many more all because of various projects i did.... glad that i took those projects. 😊

College writes a API documentation. Refuses do use markdown or simple HTML. We need to use a custom php class.
Each paragraph is a protected function with an array of multiple languages (never gets translated anyway...)
Drupal developers...
I'm a frontend developer maybe i'm missing the point, can someone enlighten me please.1 -
What's the general Software Engineering rule of thumb again for frontend templating code?
If I look at certain websites, I notice some code smells in PHP such as:
$.modal = <?php echo $(base)["username"] != 'me' ?' ': echo 'style="display=none"' ?>
or just in general places in the code where PHP gets used as a templating engine for gluing together pieces of HTML code based on conditionals spread out over the codebase and the database itself too. To make things worse, this carries over to JavaScript ajax functions. As a developer, this to me just seems like spaghetticode.
On the other hand, many popular frameworks properly do templating, such as EJS, containing templating in one place and not mixing it with logic too much but just having simple output like <%= %>.
I know I've seen frameworks like Angular 1 contain pieces of HTML into directives, but maybe that's something different, more 'OO'-simulating or cleaner.3 -
Started learning development 6 years ago with VB on YouTube, after a year I switched to C# and then I got into web development so I started learning html, css, javascript, php and I just add to that list nowadays (nodejs, python, rust, ruby, ...)

Advice needed please.
I have an interview friday for a front end developer. Currently I am junior dev with just a full stack certiticate.
It’s the typical skillset requiremnts JS HTML and CSS with familiar with React, Angular and Vue.
As far as languages I really do not know JS but I know php. Taken a JS class in school found it to be fairly simple and that was my second language I learned.
How do I spend the next 48 hours? Learning JS? Spending time going over frameworks? Refreshing HTML/CSS?
I am much stronger back end than front end but I am hoping this will be more of a front end engineer job requiring the configuration of node packages and such.1 -
F**** Wordpress....
Seams like you can't do shit without installing some random shitty documented plugin.3 -
For our internship requirement. We developed a web-app with inline Javascript and CSS. I know, it was only a matter of time for our senior dev to kill us. HAHAHAHA2

For all you amateur web developers out there: What made you want to start making websites?
Was it just a hobby that you decided to pick up, or did you want to pursue it as a career?7 -
Nextjs 14 just came out and they added a new server actions syntax which is the same bullshit syntax like php where you insert server side code in the middle of html div! And not only is that ridiculous enough but also vulnerable to sql injection 😂😂😂2

Spending many days on a project, getting the irritating parts to work, you make a theme your client likes and you look at it now adding the so called easy parts and your like what is this mess

What are your top choices of music to listen to while coding? I'm kind of getting tired of my current rotation which consists of: Celeste OST, General Classical Music (Piano), sometimes drum and bass, old school rap instrumentals.... just looking for some inspiration12

Hello Friends,

If you have any suggestions to optimize more. Thanks in advance.

My student magazine will begin recruiting new members in the coming weeks. And this is the second time they will be hiring a web developer. (First being me) However, they would like me to interview and test the applicant.
What would be some interview questions you guys would suggest?
In addition, I would like to ask him to solve some programming problems in html/CSS, JavaScript , and PHP. Can you guys suggest some problems I can give them? (I will surely ask them to do FizzBuzz.)6 -
while doing web thingies for over 20 years now i have a feeling i did it properly for the first time now. i am proud and embarrassed at the same time.
maybe for the first time php doesn't echo html with inline-js and -css.3 -
I have been 70% focused on front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JS,and related frameworks) and 30% on back-end web technologies (PHP, SQL mainly). I enjoy making websites and web apps that look good, but also understand the need for back-end functionality.

Is programming a website/basic backend program in TypeScript with NodeJS actually a good idea? Or should you be programming it in C#, Rust, (not PHP), Golang, etc?
I personally feel like NodeJS has pretty amazing performance considering how much less code you would write compared to the other options. Although I feel something like Rust (haven't used it yet) would be more robust but more work.
Note: I only currently know JS, TS, C#, Go and obviously HTML, CSS10 -

So far in my IT class, we have been going through alot of boring html and css. I am so looking forward starting to use php, and getting into the backend development. What do you guys like the most? Frontend or backend?9

I realise this might not be the place but does anyone know of a simple diagram JS library I can use where I can just simply drop the relevant files in a html/php file on an apache server and not have to install <package manager>, set up a <js server software> and be forced into pulling a million dependancies because the devs couldn't do something as simple as pad a string?
My Google-fu is weak today.7 -
I had to make a ruler grid for an existing horizontal scroll website project, but I had the job basically for sure.
I came up with a solution which included PHP-generated SVG embedded in HTML.
It was a new thing to me at that time, but a cool challenge. -
Any great tips on how to get a job i developing out of high school with two years of IT (specializing in HTML, CSS, SQL, JS and PHP)?1
