Just had a fire drill at school. I yelled "GIT PUSH!! GIT PUSH!!".
I've always wanted to do that... :P13 -
Just had meeting with a potential client.
They wanted to move their existing website from the internet to the cloud 😲. I left so quick I forgot to take my business card back.14 -
Had to create this table tent because mfs just couldn't take a hint. I also have one for when I'm concentrating/deep in code zone.21

Sorry, I just had to post this cable porn I found posted in some random subreddit.
Just look at those curves12 -

My wife just had our first child today. I guess I'll have to share my rubber duck from now on.12 -
I had just started my new job and deleted 3 years of data that the client had spent over £450,000 collecting 😱
another developer used my PC to quickly access the clients database while I was out the room as I had sql management studio open. I went back to my PC thinking I was connected to my local database, did a few truncate tables to test my software and :0 minutes later I get a call asking why there was no data on the server!
Thank god for backups 😓7 -
Damn, I'm at 70K now. This has been one hell of an awesome journey already!
Full rant coming tomorrow but I just had to say this :)18 -
I was in McDonald's and annoyed to see queues for all the self-service machines. I noticed one of them had nobody queueing though. Several people walked up to it, looked for two seconds, then just walk away. So naturally I had a look myself, and I saw that it was just a string displaying a bit wrongly. Hah!
So I walk up, close that order then make my own. Nothing at all wrong with it, people just have no clue about how computers work. Nobody even tried pressing the buttons after seeing that.
Of course I put it back to the broken screen before I left. I like chaos.rant ignorant people save me time mcdonald's literally whole minutes saved definitely won't be updated for ages huge companies screw up strings too7 -
I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!
Just had an interview and it went fucking awesome!
At some point we just talked about games like Cyberpunk and Minecraft with the developers.
Can't wait to work there!17 -
I just had to completely uninstall and reinstall Visual Studio enterprise because I wanted to convert from trial user to subscribed user.2

I had my first nightmare in years:
I was at work, and suddenly saw that my NS has changed for my personal domain. I also saw that the domain has transferred to another provider and a company had bought it and had it for sale for $7000.
I woke up, but it took 10 minutes before I realized it was just a dream.3 -
just finished installing Netscape 7.0 on my Win 10 machine. works surprisingly better than Edge. way better... when Netscape asked me to become the default browser I had to say yes.8

I found a duck today and just had to put a little cape on it 😂
I guess you could say..I really want the d 😏
Sadly I could not convince it to become my companion 😭8 -
If I had a dollar every time a non software engineer used the word "just" in a sentence...
"Just" convert this Matlab code to C++
"Just" make it faster
"Just" have it done in a week8 -
Have you ever written a piece of code so awesome, that you just had to go back, and look at it?
I have.9 -
Have you ever had that deep, deep depressing moment where you just thought to yourself: "Man, why did I switch to Mac" ?
Yeah, me neither.14 -
Just deleted my Facebook and github account (after migrating over to bitBucket) and realised.
I had more followers on github than friends on Facebook. Feels bad man..3 -
I was just trying to fix a "bug" for 2 hours and then found out I only had to "clean" to project..6

So I have been freelancing as web developer for 5 years. I was also playing basketball professionally so I was only working part-time, building websites here and there, small android apps to learn the job and I was also reading a lot to challenge my brain.
When I stopped playing basketball about a year ago, I thought I would really enjoy coding full time so I pursued a job.
With no formal education and just a basketball background on paper, in the collapsed Greek economy, as you may assume chances of landing a job are minimal.
After about 40 resumes sent I only got an internship. It was a 4 month, part-time, no pay deal, and then the company would decide if they would like to hire me later.
The company had 4 employees and they are one of the largest software distribution businesses in my area. They resell SaaS bought from a third company, bundled with installation support, initial configuration, hardware support, whatever a client may need.
I was the only one with any ability to code whatsoever. The other people were working mostly on customer support with the occasional hardware repair.
After the 4 month period they owner (small company, owner was also manager and other roles) told me that they are very happy with my work and would like to keep me part-time with minimum pay.
Just to give you and idea if the amounts of money involved, in Greece, after taxes, my salary was 240euros per month. And the average cost of surviving (rent, cheapest food possible, no expenses on anything but super basics) is about 600euros.
I told him I needed more to live and he told me ok, we will reevaluate a few months later, at the end of May 2017.
I just accepted it without having many options. The company after all was charging clients 30euros per hour for my projects so I kept thinking that if I worked a lot and delivered consistently I would get a full time job and decent money.
And I delivered. In the following months I made a Magento extension, some WordPress themes, a C# application to extract data from the client's ERP and import it to a third application, a click to call application to use Asterisk to originate calls from the client's ERP, a web application to manage a restaurant's menu and many more small projects. Whatever they asked, I delivered.
On time, version controlled, heavily documented solutions (my C# ones are not exactly masterpieces but it was my first time with the language and windows).
So when May ended I was pretty excited to hear they wanted to keep me full time. I worked hard for it, I was serious, professional, I tried a lot to learn things so I can deliver, and the company recognized that. YAY.
So the time comes to talk money. The offer was 480euros per month. Double my part-time pay, minimum wage. I asked for about 700. Manager said it's hard but I will see what I can do. So we agreed to keep the deal for June while they are working on a better offer.
During the first half of June I finished my last project, put all my work on a nice folder with a nice readme on every project's directory, with their version control and everything.
The offer never improved, so I said no deal, and as of today, I am jobless.
I am stressed as fuck and excited as fuck at the same time.
I will do my best to survive in the shitstorm that is called Greece.
Bring it on.9 -
I just had to post this ...
What the fueoiauooieaoouck ?
What the flip does greater than infinity mean ?10 -
I just had a major breakthrough on a project 😊
Just standing there chatting with my dad (also a dev), while preparing for the new years feast, and got this amazing idea that I just had to try. 30 minutes later I'm done with the script and it works flawlessly 😊😅5 -
I wish I had a group of dev friends to just sit around and code with. It's just been me, myself and I for the past 3 years now..4

Just had to update a website i did for a client 4 years ago. I want to travel back in time and bitchslap myself. Horrible... Just horrible coding...3

I attempted an online test for a Java Developer role at a pretty big company.
The test had a JavaScript question.

Just to clarify, the job description had no mention of JS7 -

Sometimes I feel like a freak. So many rants are about things that just never seen to happen to me.
I've been using Windows 10 since release, never had an update while I was working.
I've never gotten a virus from an ad, abs don't use AdBlock.
I've never had a crash that lost my work, I save neurotically or the program automatically saved.
I've never had trouble with typing in any language, static or dynamic.
I've never had issues with semicolons, IDEs or compilers tell me the issue explicitly.
I guess I'm just weird or something :/15 -
I just had to download Firefox to be able to download chrome because Edge kept crashing. Think about that for a second.
It kept crashing on a BING SEARCH...9 -
I had a developer connect to my machine remotely to fix a flutter issue opened in vscode. I had given him full access on anydesk but complains he could not type anything. He kept reconnecting and me giving full access. After about 30 minutes I realized I had a vim extension on it. I couldn't bring myself to tell him. I just asked him to reconnect one more time while I disable the plugin and restart vscode.
Oopsie1 -
I just had to ran to get my train in time. When I sat back I saw this alert on my phonescreen.
That's nice of the Riot app developers to detect frustration like that :)7 -
Me - I want to work on Java.
Boss - you are working on Java right?
Me - no, just Angular JS
Boss - yes it's the same right... Angular Js, JavaScript, java
Me - (hmmmm, what if I had just said angular, would he assume I was doing geometry?) -
MySQL should have a recycle bin. I just deleted whole "user" table by mistake... Forgot to add where clause properly... Had to restore 2 days old backup copy. I just hope no accounts were created or someone changed their password in last 2 days....8

This might be not much to most of you people, but I just made my very first mod for a game. And it works. And it took me just an hour. 2 years ago I had no idea how to code. I am proud.6 -
I was straight out of uni so I didn't mind recruiters getting in touch, I just wanted a job.
The whole conversation was just generally awkward, it was just as if he hated his job, being there, and me. He had a wordpress project lined up which I was extremely ambivalent about, but I didn't want to rule anything out. We talked about my experiences with VueJS, React, material styling, how I had done a project which is live in production more or less solo fullstack, and some of my side projects.
He nods knowingly through it all while taking notes, before asking if I had heard of javascript or if I'd be willing to look at it until next time.
That's when you just get struck with this sense of "what can I do to leave this room as soon as possible without making a scene".2 -
I just had a dream about how to squash a bug I was encountering in my app. I immediately woke up, fixed the bug, and cleaned up my code. I thought this only happened in movies.3

You ever just randomly blank on something super basic? Like something that has been drilled into your head since you started in development and should be impossible to forget? Anyway I just had to Google the newline character.4

I fucking love noise cancelling headphone. Not just to block the noise but also to dive elbows deep into focus mode with code.
That is until your partner sneeks up to you on the side you don’t see.
I’m not kidding i just had a fucking heart attack guys!9 -
Can't remember how many times I had to change project structure just because they provided wrong/misleading/half-ass requirement9
-
Just had another developer tell the team that the requirements “contradicted” his implementation. I think, if you’ll let me check my fuckstick-to-English dictionary… yeah, that just means “I did it wrong and I don’t feel like fixing it.”3

I hardly use Windows, but had to book tickets using my friend's laptop who only had Windows.
So I switch on my mobile data, and the stupid shit just ate up all my data in updating Windows without even asking for permission 😣

Just had my first demo here. The resolution of the screen was set at 150% screwing more up then i hoped for.
I didn't dare to show the iPad version. I had seen enough bugs in those 10 minutes.
Don't put this developer in the center of attention. Please.2 -
Just wow. I had a fellow developer tell me to drop support for Google Chrome. I hate to break it to you but roughly 70% of our user base uses Google Chrome (Google Analytics proves this). Like seriously!8

This had me laughing out loud this morning, my wife just looked at me funny as I tried to explain it to her.2

I once had a flash usb stick which i tried to rename to "/dev/null" just for the lols
Just to see the face of newbies as i pull files out of /dev/null 😂😂3 -
I just had a developer tell me “I’m switching the language of the project from React to HTML”...................... ok.8

Me - "I need to find the children"
CTO- "Okay. How many?"
It takes about 10 minutes to realize the conversation you just had1 -
Worst project I had was when I was asked to just copy-paste code and change the names of variables. Yeah, that's it, nothing more than that.5

Just wrapped up week 1 of my first job out of college and it was absolutely incredible! I just had to tell somebody!1

I just remembered I had changed my system settings from 'lock after 5 mins of inactivity' to 'lock never' (during an installation)
But I can't remember if I actually logged off after work! Dammit.5 -
I was just a junior developer, and the senior interviewer had just left for a quick break.
And, I had to interview one dude for the post of Web Designer (we were not asking for experienced devs). And, then he comes up, opens his laptop, goes to a folder and opens an html file that turns out nothing but a "Save Page as.." of one News Website. Seriously, I just said nothing, asked him a bunch of questions and off he goes. I could not stop laughing later.2 -
I just automated the tasks I had for next week. What to do, what to do ^^ This is not really a rant but just me boasting. Time for beer.3

Just helped a dev at my old company by relaying the issue to a dev at another company (who had the required knowledge).
I feel like Stack Overflow.1 -
So I just had to pick the lock on my own bike because I forgot the key... Well done dipshit, well done.10

So, I just realised that a contribution I made to an open source project 12 days ago had gotten accepted 3 days ago. I'm so ecstatic over this!
I was basically just in need of type definitions for a javascript library, and seeing as it didn't have any, decided to make them myself. Done that, I made a pull request, but seeing as there was no changes after a few days, I forgot about it.
Now I just remembered about that, and wondered if it got any comments or anything, and it turned out that they had accepted my PR and it had already been put into a release 3 days ago
I can't contain myself right now, it was my first open-source contribution, and it just feels good to know that I somehow helped some people by giving them type definitions :D
Cheers1 -
Teacher requests help with projector. I go to the classroom.
Me: What seems to be the problem?
Teacher: Yes, I just can’t get this projector to show image from the computer! I’ve hit every single button on the remote!
Me: .. The computer isn’t on?
Teacher: Huh?
Me: There is no power on the computer? Have you turned it on?
Teacher: .. What?
I thought maybe she had accidentally shutdown the PC, but no. She had just walked to the classroom and just turned on the projector.. Didn’t even touch the computer..
Heard the students snickering when I left the classroom.1 -
I just wrote this stub function for my test and thought it was a bit ridiculous and had to share.
A function that returns a function that returns an object with just one function6 -
I hate school, but I wish I finished collage…
Just to imagine all the free time I had, I if I had it now I would do so much... But I left and Got employed, and now I have to watch myself getting fucked over salary wise and not learning anything new at work. Constantly being called junior just makes me wish I stayed in school. And use the extra time to do my own company
So if I had the chance , I'd go back... But I have bills to pay! (Sad)9 -
I just had to explain to someone why Java isn't a suitable shorthand to JavaScript. Then he told me not to lecture him, because he's a CS graduate. Seriously.4

Today I had to write a unit test to test a method that internally used a random number generator...

It compiled without any issues. I think I want to wake up now1 -
My mum just had to call me to change our home WiFi password, because she can't change it on her laptop.
She's pretty bad with technology, but she had to call me to do it, because no one else knew how to. Including my brother-in-law who designs IT systems for major banks and system admins working for the government.
She had to call me, from Hungary to do it. I live in Scotland.4 -
I just remembered something I did like freshman year of high school lol
So our school system had just adopted a new site blocking program. It did even better than the one we had used before it.
Literally every good site to play games was blocked, and it really pissed me the fuck off. I had an easy class that was in a lab, and I finished my work early literally everyday, so I played the games to kill time.
Finally I got fucking fed up, and I made a site using weebly where I put the games I wanted to play on it. This way I was in control of it, and I had all the game files on a flash drive, so if it got blocked, I could just keep making new ones.
It actually got to the point that after a week, a few of my friends were using the site daily as well, and they kept asking for games to be put on it.
Simpler times man, simpler times.2 -
I just had to explain to a web master and sys admin how ports work and how to access a router if they change the local port... God fucking help us8

I had to buy a mobile printer for my company for an "emergency" for a demo. I sent my boss 3 prices and he just said "go get it, we'll pay you back." After I deliver the features my boss says "Just take it back and demand a refund" this made me feel like such a douche with the supplier, plus I had to pay a 15% handling fee.6

This wasn't an interview, but a massive rejection which I've never forgotten...
I was working beneath a director from hell. South African, very intimidating. If I was not able to dictate my work, he would give me an expression like I had just kicked his dog.
I think at the time, I had threatened the development manager when I had challenged the way we were running database queries and linked processes.
The director had pulled me into his office one day and said to me, literally, "not everyone can do what they want to do, if they are not good at it". Like seriously, what the fuck... I was doing a lot more than others even more senior to me, and I had just come on board learning the language on the fly (4th Dimension, don't ask...).
I digress... My heart just completely sank and I was left speechless. Two jobs later and I could give him the big finger.
These days in a development management position for a massive Australian company, so I know we all go through a lot of shit, keeps you humble.1 -
Just had the shittiest job interview ever. Had to do two tests. And since i was nervous as fuck and can't do proper JS i obviously failed!10

I was just wondering guys. If all developers speak English.
By speak English I mean easily able to communicate at a basic level because from what I know... all programming language had their base vocabulary in English language.

WATCH WHAT YOU CLONE!!!
I spent 2 days of stack overflow, assistance, mental counselling, 5 stages of depression ... just to realize I had cloned half the project because of a stupid, useless, fucked up branch that had the balls to call itself MASTER!!!!! arrggg!!!!!7 -
Finally had the time to implement that feature I wanted all the time. Testing now and everything works just fine again. Very suspicious.

This day was awful. I just want to disappear. I want to stop existing, and come back in a few days. I had a day of pure depression and insecurity.
Don't bother replying or upvoting, that's just me writing this in the open for no reason.31 -
a) when i wanted to write a twitter client for the console
b) when i automated my job that i had at a school event

Guess who just taught his wife how to commit, push, some command lines, and how to exit vim?
Also, I had to teach her over FB messenger.4 -

Just had to write an old-skool for loop. Index...termination condition...whole works. I feel dirty.
Bit embarrassing as someone saw me writing it, thought I was a hacker and informed the authorities. Spent the last hour being waterboarded.
We had a big laugh about it when they realized I was just fixing bugs in a legacy app.
National Security. Hilarious.10 -
Planning a telegram bot + home web server, possibly using the Bluetooth to combine with an android and make a self driving go kart, but that seems a bit ambitious, especially considering most of the GPU acceleration isnt supported with Raspberry Pi.8

Just had my first insomnia night, I simply could not fall asleep! While laying in my bed I had great ideas for work and for my home projects, like new features, infrastructure and even implementation details. Now that I'm up I can't remember most of it, of course!
Worst part about it is that when I got to bed I had about 5hrs to get some quality sleep, now I got non it feels like. Fuck.
Can anyone relate? :/7 -
I just finished my program and then i saw i had 7 errors.. then i try to fix 1, and then i see i have 11 errors .-.

I quit smoking yesterday.
By a coincidence I had a pack of cigarettes named “Kresty” – the brand from russian prison.
Just gave it to Stephen Paul Taylor. There’s no reason to smoke again, just don’t want to loose this kind of story.4 -
I think I used to rage more at complete idiots when I was younger because I had the time and energy to do so
Now I've seen it at least a million times and just don't give a shit anymore -
Finally had a weekend to myself to work on some projects. I got my hands on a Sonoff switch. Did a manual flash of some new firmware and got it setup on my crappy old washer to do a little DIY smart home upgrade.

I was just so inspired that I already had a colleague I can talk to for the second year of existence in our company, then little did I know that one of senior was sneakingly making a move until our ceo talked that maybe we had a romance and he had a fiance.
I can't even taste myself on it. Gross. -
What tf is matlab
I got a job for the summer, and I had to learn it by myself

So apparently our windows domain admin now disabled screensavers.

Why the fuck is android studio such an unoptimized POS?
It sucks up resources like a sponge.

I HATE NETBEANS.
Why the fuck is it's interface so out of date.
I just had to increase its font size and took me half an hour just to find the option to do that.20 -
I kinda feel the pain of the developers over at Bungie. They just had over 15h downtime of Destiny 1 and 2 and had to stay up all night to fix it.
You did a good job - have a nice weekend :)6 -
Just wanted to remind everyone to remember to backup their files 🙂.
Ubuntu just crashed, had to reinstall the OS, luckily for me, I did all my backups and probably lost 30 seconds worth of work.14 -

Ah, it just hit me so hard I had the urge to get it out.. Helped, tho, love you Git -
So I just changed the same LoC in my library to find out that same LoC had no problem...
The fucking test case is written wrong
wtf1 -
I had a team lead once that would come into my office multiple times a day to sit and talk. Not about work. Not even about development. Just to talk.3
-
Never work in IT support.
I just had to explain to a computer science professor how to open a PDF on an mac :O2 -
lol,my mom just called me to check whether I had lunch or not. I was working and forgot what time it is!2
-
Had a bug that I just couldn't figure out. How did I solve it? Had to think like a user. Just started clicking options over and over. Not giving it time. Found my issue.1
-
God I hate Liferay.... now I had to make bkend to make ws calls to frontend just to keep LR cache happy. Is there at least one sane soul who likes that thing?1
-
Creating a json in Swift!? Not a joke. Real code I had to deal with... (just changed variables and text)2
-
Once I had to help our graphic designer with a problem and I asked him to show me his console to see the error. He just answered: "I don't own any console".
-
If I had a penny every time I explained CORS of browsers to tenured J2EE, who just knows ie as a browser, I would be millionaire by now.5
-
I always had little time to code. But since I have my server I just have admin related stuff to do. It's been a few days now since I have seen my editor for the last time.
Hate that.1 -
Why do I get the urge to do 3-4 side projects just when I don't have time for neither of them and when I had time to do them I was just doing nothing all day...4
-
I've never had a bad interview but one turned mildly awkward when I found out that the whole Dev team had watched a video of me from when I was in a band. We used to just make random videos to keep fans coming back to our site. https://youtu.be/V5zQjjCu_V01
-
Why are these SAMPLES NOT WORKING!?
It's supposed to just be reading and writing OAuth2 tokens from session.
I'm THIS CLOSE |__| to getting things working and I had to leave work. The fucking worst.
On the bright side, I think I finally understand how OAuth2 works. I need to write an article that actually explains it properly because I've had to read dozens to get a good grasp on it.2 -
Worst interview, had to travel half a day, tired already and got grilled on how to debug a overloaded complex network schematic and no additional information, just told that traffic was being dropped. I'm not a network engineer and had no clue where to even start. Manager had mixed papers and thought I was interviewing for a senior position. I was fresh from uni.1
-
Just had a first meeting with a customer who wants me to upgrade their system that a company spent one year making. He gave me the .exe and was surprised I couldn't just edit it.
He was cool about it when I explained, but it's tough to break it to someone how much more time it will take than they had anticipated. -
So I just restored a computer for my grandpa
it was quite the task because I had ot learn how to use revovery grub but finnaly I was able to get linux.
ALEXA PLAY CHAMPION BY QUEENS12 -
I have an interview with Google in less than 3 hours. It really sucks because I'm totally not motivated to do it. I didn't study much for the interview, because I recently switched companies and had a lengthy job search. And I finally landed at a decent job that I'm having a great time working for. And to be totally honest, I just have interview fatigue. It started in late May and ended in August. Countless interviews asking the same damn questions just gets exhausting. Too "homework assignments" in addition to my "day job". I'm just burned out on interview hence I just haven't had it in me to really study for a Google interview.5
-
Just had someone branch off my repo of some class assignments I did last year.
What are they up to.....
Better not be doing what I think he's doing.5 -
slacked off on friday on something i had to deliver. did it today in about two hours just to get done with it. motivation is weird4
-
it'd been a while since i last had an anxiety attack. I'm tired of college, i just want to move on3
-
I just had a thought while thinking about Algorithms and data structures. Honestly other than for technical interviews I have never really had to use specific implementations.
Then I suddenly had a thought... What if I wanted to build my own operating system... I would also learn c++ as well....
I can't think of a reason to build my own OS though... Hm.. What about a programming language? Would that be like a mini-OS, and also need all this stuff?2 -
So it's Sunday and I just did freaking nothing the whole day.
Woke up at 1pm . Had lunch. Went to bed .
And it's night already.4 -
I think I might actually have an addiction to code :S. I can't go a day without writing something just get a feeling niggling at me to write even if I don't know what to. I just opened a terminal on the nearest computer to write 'ls' and had such a relieving feeling, this can't be healthy.1
-
some friend asked me today:
is it ok to lie to boss and say that I had a new job offer.. just to negotiate on the salary?
Me: post question on devrant13 -
Anyone else remember rainmeter. I just saw HWiNFO has a rainmeter plugin and had flashbacks to all the issues I had with rainmeter in high school. Lol5
-
Life is good when you're responsible only for your task, code you write.
While i had souch a beautiful life, I could come to wrk, make coffe, magic and be happy. Sometimes it would be fast, sometimes slow. Sometimes I had to learn before implementing, sometimes I just needed to code it down. I had working hours. I had only TL and client to deal with.
If you dislike working with your collegues, imagine being responsible for their work and feel good.1 -
Only now just realised I haven't had a drink in 3 weeks and even longer since I had an iced coffee... Guys I think I've discovered why my rants are down!!!
Time to go get fucking hammered and try to build the world!1 -
What's your worst debugging experience?
I just had it today and yesterday when I tried to connect to an aws postgres rds..... 😭😭😭7 -
I had my second interview today with the director .. He seems to be nice at first.. when he asked me do you read books I honestly said I don’t...he then asked me if I had like programming books with me.. I said no since all the lectures are all in ppt ... and I believe that is enough during colllege.. and they didn’t require us to have books.. I just felt that .. he did not like me just because of that..I like the company but I guess being honest also kills the opportunity..the second interview mainly focuses on fitting with the company culture...I just thought the interview went really fast.. It just seemed that they had this “ahh next!!” Kind of attitude when I left the room15
-
I just had to delete 60GB of files, just to install all of them again from 7 DVDs* because Rockstar can't be bothered to fix their download client.2
-
love it when client supports comes to me and tells me the entire conversation they had with a client when i just need wathever request they had. i could have been done with this feature in the time you took giving me 90% useless information.2
-
yaay just deployed my first asp.net site ever.
ALSO FUCK YOU MICROSOFT FOR WASTING 2 FUCKING DAYS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY I WAS GETTING 502.5 ERROR ONLY TO KNOW THAT I HAD TO DELETE THE WWWROOT FOLDER1 -
I just had to explain a (Millennial) client how to use the address bar in browsers, so that she can access her fucking "webside"2

My neighbor blasting shitty trap and EDM at 8am after I had a long night of coding is just *fantastic*.
I didn't want to sleep anyway.5 -
Curse you Cyclone Debbie. Ruining my plans. I was gonna get things done, but no, just HAD TO HAVE A CYCLONE INSTEAD1
-
Have you ever wanted a feature to be a certain way but you had to settle with something easier and less cool/impressive?
I just had to and it’s very dissatisfying.1 -
Call me an idiot... Yesterday I just installed Arch Linux. Guess what happened?
I formatted my fedora-drive and then noticed I destroyed my bootloader. Please just kill me😫 Anyone had such problems too and maybe could give me some advice how to fix?5 -
Programming excel macros is the worst thing one could do to himself. VBA is the most cancerous anderen inconsistent language I had the "pleasure" to work with. I have problems like the following all the time for no apparent reason. For example: you script something, test is and everything is working just fine and dandy. Next day when you run the script, guess what...i doesnt work anymore. For no apparent reason what so ever. Maybe its just me, but i just want to hang myself working with it.
Anyone else has had such "Love story" like mine?6 -
Just switched from Debian to Ubuntu, should have coded for a project today... But I passed hours playing freeciv... At least I had fun!!
-
I just got an email from matrix that their servers are hacked. Apparently this happened last thursday and they took until Sunday to notify me... I had expected differently from them....4
-
I wish i had a time machine just to go back in time and shoot the people who invented Magento. What a load of crap.
-
I was just back home from a 5-month work trip abroad in another field and I had just found a new recruitment platform; applied to a company that had an ad in it and they contacted me like less than a week later. Arranged an interview, flew out, had the interview and received an offer like three days later. Almost four years later I'm still at that company.
-
I never wanted to be a programmer. I spent years in education being confused and bombarded by information that was poorly explained and made little to no sense.
Then in my final year after having a basic understanding of the building blocks, I just sent out to solve a problem >I< had.
It all just clicked into place and it turns out I had learned but perhaps didn't have an appreciation of how to apply it.
I'm guessing my education was too theoretical and not enough practical. -
😂 I'm sorry if this is a report. I'm also sorry because I know you guys are tired of stupid memes. But I just....i had to.1
-
finally migrating my home env to Ubuntu...good by MS...we had good and bad times...but I just don't need ou anymore. Wish me luck!6
-
Today I learned how to make McDonald's coffee...
I just had to add 3 "pumps" of chocolate syrup. And the material cost was probably $0.50 ...5 -
Just any time at all I had to use Microsoft Word 98 as a kid. Rip every paper ever before I learned to save constantly.
-
Our company got bought over from a global private entity 3 months back (advent international) and the reciew process started and it turns out, im part of the bunch that may be getting retrenched as per the meeting we just had, our positions being redundant and just last week had a over the top performance review.. Now i need to figure out what to tell the family when i get home. This Fucking sucks im not going to lie2
-
I secretly hate customer support and I'm ashamed about that. I secretly hate my work every morning for a couple of hours just for that. Please, don't judge. I just had to say it somewhere :)4
-
If there is anything worse than a bad, not willing to learn programmer is a so called plugin programmer.
Who only knows how to install plugin over plugin to do a simple task.
Just had to fix something on one websites (wp site, I know, just kill me) where the guy had like 25-30 plugins (some where disabled). And most of them were for adding new widget positions.3 -
FUUUUUCK had one of those fucking days again where I just want to cram a keyboard down somebody's throat.
Son of a fuck how is it possible to be so irritated!? -
I just "had to" send a tutorial on semantic versioning to my boss the other day. he was like, wait, i thought we were further along than 1.1.1, didn't we release 1.0.11 before?
idiot.3 -
So this is about one assignment I had in my first programming class in university, I had a group which had 3 members, one saw the assignment and just quit, the other was always saying, "I Know what we have to do to complete this exercise" and I was like "great, then do it"...
Seconds later he just didn't do anything like "WT* man"2 -
What could possibly be wrong with me if I had to look at almost every single answer of the Basic Algorithm Scripting exercises on FreeCodeCamp? I spend days tying to solve some of them and just couldn’t. Had to look at the answers. Then I try few days after and maybe remember half of the answer. How can I change this?3
-
Wrote a util program/script last week only to realize today that I already had one which actually did better....
Just couldn't remember it last week. -
All I wanted to do was program this morning, but I just had to leave my car lights on at the gym...1
-
I feel so exhausted... I just had a short but very much needed mini holiday over the weekend and I thought maybe i'd feel less like this afterwards, but its only Tuesday and i just.... Want to sleep. The rest of my life. Forever.
-
Do u ever had the feeling that you're just too tired to do anything? Well I just had a full week of just doing nothing.. fuck this1
-
I was just copied on an email that had far to many managers included that basically says 90% of the problems come from an original group that just didn't follow directions.
Now we wait to see if upper management cans the whole team.1 -
Had to play with old code of mine today. I wrote when I just started working a few years ago. Had a bit of shame be mostly a good laugh at pass me. Dam I used to be bad1
-
I just found out why so many accounts of mine had a lot of login attempts recently. Turns out Epic Games had a leak in 2016 with no info to its users about it. So my email and default shitty password i dont use anymore but for useless accounts got leaked...4
-
In my early programming days when i had just started learning, I challenged myself to write a sudoku puzzle solver. Wrote a really naive backtracking solution, but i was really excited to have finished it.
-
Well, I just had something negative to say about the whole flat earth theory followed by me expressly saying I'm not looking for an argument
Interpretation: I just stirred the hornet's nest... Let's see what happens now7 -
I was just clicking trough oracle's docs, on a page which had to do with manifest&sealing (kotlin/java)
-
Had to port a python code some other guy wrote using opencv for some image processing stuff to Java. I thought "how tough can it be? Let's just try it out on python first just to verify the results", only to waste an entire fucking day trying to install opencv first and make it work and to add to it the crappy opencv documentation were no help. In the end I had to just give up on this shit and decide to just do the Java implementation which I later verified from the python guy's results.
-
Sooo... I have an Haskell exam tomorrow and I thought I had the evening to review some stuff and try to code a little bit more. Guess I was wrong since I had to take my sister to her soccer practice at 7 pm and am arriving just now home.
Well, I guess if I fail, I'll just blame it on her.
That's what siblings are for, right?5 -
I can't believe it is real: I just had to talk someone out of calling a navigation point "FAQ User"
Had to admit I'm from Germany and so was the client. It's quiet common people pronounce FAQ as fuck here3 -
How can I track the shipping of 3 ducks I just bought :D
Yes I HAD to say the number because of yes.4 -
My Windows laptop randomly shut down 3 times tonight. I then had to completely reboot, but it looked as if the computer just went to sleep. Always at the worst times too just as I went to do something. Seriously, Microsoft?3
-
So had to send my pixel 2 xl back to google under warranty (4th fucking pixel I've had, now on my 5th) and just got it back after 3 weeks Alan's after using a Nokia 6.1... Holy fuck this phone is fucking huge!!
It's really weird now looking at it thinking on how I was able to put up with such a large device... I feel shaken to my core...
(Side note, as I'm typing this; I just realised I had some repo changes in termux I didn't commit and some debug logs for something I I was working on left on the Nokia but I just did a factory reset... fuck!)5 -
I was just about home from a long day of work and just blew a tire on my truck. Not flat, blew.
That wasn’t the bad part. I was so excited to get home since I figured out a bug in my code while I was at work that I had been trying to fix for a while now.
By the time I got my tire on, I had no idea how to solve the bug. -
Wow... I should have done this sooner.
A recent rant had expressed that firefox had a strange "bug" (I'm convinced it's a feature) that would allow videos to continue playing even when one turned off their phone.
I finally got around to testing this and can i just say I'm euphoric right now!2 -
My daughter hissed at me.
I then turned to my wife and said:
"I just had a hiss directed at me."
She refused to talk to me for about 5 minutes.13 -
.NET Core broke cause of the recent ncurses update… And I just HAD to do a full system upgrade on my Arch laptop right… Guess I'll try to downgrade ncurses now…
-
I wanted to automate the install of a toolchain which had just a manual install script. Piped `yes` into the installer and it worked just fine. Only downside, it always installs to 'y' 😅

Sadly I have to work on MS Windows at work .. and i just had to go to stack overflow just to remove an annoying keyboard layout .. user friendly my ass ..

I'm playing with a Z80 SBC, and I was trying to run the old Star Trek game on it. I had a C source file, and used a makefile to try to compile it. It failed due to various library issues, but I just checked the folder (I had done this earlier today) and there's an EXE of the Star Trek game sitting there. I don't know how I compiled it for Windows. I didn't use any CC or GCC commands. I'm just confused.

My watch gives me periodic reminders to stand up.
I just so happened to be on the crapper at the time. I had just come to the conclusion of my business and before I could, it reminded me to stand up.
For a split second, I was like, man this thing really is living my life for me.2 -
Just had another jobinterview. I told them i’m not experienced in framework i don’t have any Vue experience so far... They want me to come over for a test in Vue...5
-
I’m still waiting for Agile to just go away, it is the reason devs burn out and have miserable working lives. I started my career just before it got a hold and I remember those days being great - going to work was actually my hobby.
The worst places I’ve worked had strict Agile practices, the best has had the most loose.
Just go away already, Agile! You make so many devs lives miserable.10 -
I was just ordered by PM to remove my class wrapper and explode the massive contents into a function....
Why do I feel like I just had a dirty discussion with my parents... Perverted methods..... -
Just had to type a 12x12 matrix by hand.. Bleh
I didn't choose the engineering lyfe, the engineering lyfe chose me -
Just spent 2 days figuring out the issue for flickering of path drawn on canvas through sockets.
Every team member had already tried to figure out the bug.
I had checked almost everything and at last I was about to give up.
I gave a try, and it worked. How, no one knows...
Just changed 'lineData' to 'JSON.stringify(lineData)'
:)1 -
I just can't sit at a computer anymore without opening my terminal anymore. Is it wrong I kinda want to go back to when that's all we had?2
-
Just had a complete nerd-gasm as I finally got my gradle plugin script to perform multi-module releases correctly and efficiently
-
I think I just woke up from a nightmare and inception.
I was dreaming about not being able to sleep because I was hearing loud noises all night.
Anyone else every had that?2 -
!rant
Been for about a tear now, so hi!
Just had to share.
After finishing a 3 year cs degree with shitty grades, i Just landed my drram Job!2 -
Thanks GitHub, it's not like I didn't have shit I had to do today.
Guess I'll just sit back and wait for the heat dome to kill me.5 -
I was presented with a different backend schema today after finishing the front end, not before not even during, it just had to be after.1
-
i have a confession to make. I just bought a iphone 7 and already had an macbook pro. I think the hipster live is taking over5
-
So my girlfriend was trying to find another word for "whispered" and I just had to screenshot this ad...
Could someone tell me what its trying to actually scam people into?6 -
I didn't, I just loved to break windows as a kid, and I learned Scratch and Small Basic vis their pdfs. _I had no internet and lots of time as a child, OK?_4
-
Just delivered most difficult project I had so far, despite all issues managed to deliver (on time). Had help from team but some colleagues only contributed with "I'll tell X and Y to do it".
Told my manager it was really hard for me and sometimes I had to work some hours in the weekends, once even entire weekend with no extra pay, just to meet deadlines.
My manager just told me in my performance review that I didn't deliver on time and compared me to the UX designer that delivers Figma designs on time for like 8 projects and never has to work overtime. I guess dev work is the same as Figma design around here.
Then manager proceeded to tell me that he wants what's best for me.
Safe to say no raise this year.6 -
I just noticed something, I wanted to test out flutter so I decided to make a basic Todo application.
I made a Todo app with flutter and Kotlin and what I discovered was that. Flutter apps are very large.
A Kotlin Todo app had a size of less than 25mb while a Flutter Todo app had 60mb. And I didn't use too much design.6 -
In my university years I had a computer engineering professor who had an ascent and it sounded like an "S" being added to each word. I went for the first lecture and not knowing if I was at the right room I left after hearing:
"Togethers we wills do projects with some chips"
I was like ... thanks I just had breakfast! -
Had to put something on my notebook to indicate the front and the back...
So I just slapped a DevRant sticker on it I had laying around :34 -
Had nice nightly writing session with some good ol' Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, so when I just moved to the monitor I still had this music in my head:
[Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life]
"Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile."
Just to see this:1 -
Just realised that devRant doesn't give me the option to change my password - I had to go through the forgotten password routine to do it.7
-
I just had to update a package on Pypi after a number of years. It's kind of a PITA.
And then I realized, it's still better than npm. Wild. -
While being an intern I had to make a finance system, no requirements except for the fact that it has to invoice the right person...
As soon as it was seemingly done, I'd go to the customer and he'd just say "why isn't x in there? This isn't what I meant! Where is y feature? Why does it work like this and not like that?" etc...
I had 0 experience, and was just told to make stuff as I went, horrible experience and truly the most frustrating project I've ever done. -
why don't monitors have physical fucking brightness buttons?!
I had to navigate through menus of 4 different monitors, just to adjust them to #mondaysucks
and I had to do it the same time, so they would all match brightness
tomorrow I have to do it again, I guess I'll block off a few hours on my calendar for it :D3 -
We had a course spanning a week about SIP/Asterix. I got an A+… not because I learned a lot about SIP, but I fixed the dhcp daemon on his server and he was happy with my work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He was an eccentric guy, had a passion for photography, so he had bought a top spec Mac Pro worth about $7000 just to edit his photos on1 -
Just realized that If I had spent all the time on 3d modelling instead of programming I would have hundreds of models on cgtrader and probably wouldn't even had to work anymore...1
-
Just spent the whole night awake to do a university coursework.
Not because I was late or it was difficult, but because the framework we had to use was so wrong that I had to take a 20 minutes break for desperation for every line I wrote. -
I just had a ptsd (not real ptsd) attack cause I remembered in one of my first jobs we had gulp, grunt AND webpack to build our angularjs project.
Did I fix that mess? Sure!
Will the memory of it stalk me until new year? Absolutely.1 -
Hey where can I get access to the devrant API? GitHub readme said it isn't officially public yet but people are still using it. Just had a few for projects I wanted to try.2
-
I just had a customer who wanted the internet to be free. He didn't see why he needed to pay a company in order to get his internet...
Kill me now... -
Until the old Dev left this team, I never had to handle any of the website end of things. Now he's gone, I've had to look through his code, and Jesus Christ I didn't know you could be hired to do things without knowing what functions are. It's just long strings of PHP includes.3
-
I had been working as an IT-consultant, for some year. Where I often had to educate about APM products, and a lot of them was over skype to outsourced IT departments in Asia.
I could use a hole dag teaching them about the product, and how to use specific part of them. Even though I asked them if they understood everything I have said. I never got any questions or had to immerse anything.
But almost every single time after, I got a ton of email asking about everything I said. Why just why, would you just sit, smile and nod. If you did not understand anything. So I had to use days, going over the same presentation over and over again, to each and every participant.
Now I am so happy I gave the company the finger, and became a full-time developer instead.1 -
Why the hell Microsoft browser support the standards created? The website which I had designed worked well in my mobile (Android) and PC (Ubuntu) then I just opened it in friends laptop which had windows 10 and guess what? Transition failed to work. Why the hell Microsoft? Why the hell?3
-
Today i had a first experiente with Python. I'm finishing my course and I've done it with mainly Java. Now that I had this first class with python, I just feel like I've been trying to build a house with my bare hands this hole fuckin time!!3

Around 24 hours. Over 48 hours!
It's was in high school, I had a job in grocery store stucking up shelfs. I had two shifts that weekend. it's was Saturday I had just finished working a 13 hours shifts and my mates was pressuring me to join for video games and drinking.
Ofc I went there, got super drunk (beer pong and drinking league of legends).
It got really late(around 4am) and I knew I was supposed to be at work at 6 pm, so I call dad told him to drive me home and then to work! He did as awesome as he is!
Had to work 12 hours, I did 11 hours then my boss send me home.I was basically til at bit drink then I arrived I work for 4 hours I had the worst hangover the last 7 hours of work.
When I came we had guest and I had to be present!
Poor life decision, no regrets! -
I have always wanted too work on lossless compression technology. I have just never had the time to go after it. Or do I really know where to start lol1
-
Fuck, fuck, fuck!!!
I just realise I had a lot of work to be done!!!
And it's completely my fault.
Not sure if I feel myself more stupid or fucked. -
I wrote a theoretical mobile development exam today. At some point, I had to change inactive to suspended in a long passage. So natural I found myself wishing I could just ^+F or CMD+F to find replace.
-
Does anyone know how install Oracle 11g on Fedora 28? I need it for a college class and I had to distro hop just to install the rpms.8
-
I had long time to figure out how to send an email via java over wildfly with @Resource annotation and finally found how to do it, according StackOverFlow, i just had to create new instance with @EJB Annotation instead create it with "new" *face palm*1
-
Today was all about dynamic memory allocation. I spent my whole day researching and learning this topic. I had watched couple of videos before I got to bed. Just a while ago I had a dream where Bucky Roberts from thenewboston and David J Malan were instructing me. Wow, such a nice dream.
-
I'm pretty sure they had the new version of the file available and there was no need to translate an old one to monkey language, so I had to manually copy everything.
Why. This just escapes me. -
I just uninstalled Anaconda Python because it takes up about 8GB... and I don't remember the last time I used it...
That being said I did sort of use Python last week at work... though even that's rare, just that I had a project used to analyze logs I wrote over a year ago... that needed to be used.12 -
Yeah... I spent way too much fucking time thinking my multi threading was fucked up. When in actuality I had a parameter in a JSON payload for an API call I neglected to check for changes.
A fucking form id! Just one parameter had me frustrated for 2 hours.1 -
After having to develop on windows for 2 years I had to make a websocket based communications service for Linux. It was just so nice having proper tools again...
-
Had to rewrite all of my ORM services just to get a proper stack trace for an error I was getting. I finally got an actual error... just to realize that it's a bug in the backend server.
-
Ok so what if I migrated my companies entire product to the web and just had c# as the back end...3
-
Oh shit I've had way to much caffeine 🤤
Heart is full on racing I haven't had any for a few weeks and I just had 2 relentless... High caffeine energy drinks
Oh fuck.... Loud music and hype might help !?
Anyone? -
had to call my college's tech support today (TECHNICALLY yesterday... 0019 atm) and I had to stop several times and say "please hold, i've just broken your site."
why do i end up doing this even when i really don't want to
WHY AM I CURSED2 -
Procrastinating as I had to deliver a full working Android app and it'd Backend to feed data to it. I had 6 months. I pulled 2 all nighters and finished the entire project in just one week. I and I totally ducked it up. No backend optimization means with 100 users online the server will go stupid and don't know how to handle the pressure. The Android app just doesn't work on some devices due to a poor error handling. So yeah, I totally love to procrastinate, but I'll just leave that for later.
-
That Microshit motherfucker, Windows 10, is constantly messing up AMD drivers by "updating them out".
I did a clean reinstall, moved past the retarded Crimson installer hanging up on branding components, and configured everything. I had to reboot, and that little twat of an OS prompted me with "just a second, Windows is updating" reboot screen, after which the drivers are fucked up again. And that is the second time it has done that.
I just had to move my screen back out of my punching radius, otherwise I would probably had to buy a new one.
Linux with GPU passthrough seems to be the only sane option theesedays.6 -

One of my first rants was about adding a 1 to the wrong part of an extensive equation.
Just had the new guy move it back to where I had it messed up initially. It took him a few minutes to understand why his changes weren't working.
To not feeling stupid anymore. 🍻 -
I hate menagers...I had request to make first name field translateable in module for team members, bcs they decided to use that module not just for people but also for cows. I hate adhoc solutions and hacking...

Had to fix a small program that wrote a report to a file and was supposed to uploaded to FTP but kept sending error notices. For a week I had the FTP part commented out and just manually used filezilla every morning till I realized the config had an old password... Not a proud moment1

For fuck sake. This is literally the 10th time today either Rider or Unity has had hiccups and just crashed. Every single time I had something which wasn't saved and had to be redone. 😡 I could be so much more productive without having to rewrite a lot of my code twice...1

Installed a VM with ubuntu and syntaxnet. Did a little reading to scratch the surface on how to use it. Got my Stackoverflow rep from 1 to 60 by starting to help some people (I might be addicted now). Started learning python (again). Just to procrastinate working on the little portfolio of < 10 pages I had to hand in before 0:00 which I did.
I think I had a pretty productive weekend. -

I installed putty, git, svn, xampp and all, but it just feels like I just bloat the OS.1 -
Sometimes I think the my friend asked/had an idea rants are bullshit.

I learned to program in community college where they had us learn C# but I honestly didn't catch the programming bug until we had to do assembly language. I just found it fun to break what I needed to do into 's,mall steps and at the end I get to see the result of all that Work!

I just had to reinvent tables with angular4 and flexbox to satisfy a design. actually looks a lot cleaner.

Default dict that returns default dict on configparser to replace "if/try/nested .get()" to just "or"
In the end I had just

So I got sick of fixing my graduation project's repo, it had so many things that need to be removed, so I just created a new one and copied the stuff I needed.
