Worst interview question (but actually answer) :
Interviewer : "How would you describe the Internet in one word?"
Me: "... Big"
I got the job by some miracle.10 -
During an Interview:

- Perseverance.

The interview was for an internship, I was so nervous about it and thats how I fu*ked it.
Q: So you have studied OOP?
A: Yes Sir, I have studied OOP in C language.
And the rest is history. 😃😃10 -
My favorite kind of interview question/challenge is anything that is highly practical for the job. At the current company I work, the coding test/interview challenge was to design and implement an API very similar to the core functionality of the actual product. It’s fair, tests for skills relevant to the job, and is much better than irrelevant silly brain teasers and cs questions, I feel.
In terms of specific questions, one of my favorites is one that one of my colleagues suggested I ask to potential candidates: describe what you think your biggest failed project/task was in your engineering career, and what happened/what you learned. I think it’s a good reflective question that can tell a lot about someone.3 -
Saw a video of an interview on Cloud Computing...
That genius guy says: "Cloud computing is highly risky. Because if it rains, all the data will be lost."4 -
Interviewed a guy for Java Developer.
He didn't managed to explain his hello world program.

He won't be giving java interview anytime soon5 -
So I just had an interview a couple weeks ago at one of the largest employers of software engineers in the country. After multiple stages of group interviews it came to the 2 on 1 individual interview with some project leads (picture devs using a MacBook with Github stickers - lads). Among the questions they asked me we both had a laugh at 2 of them:
Q: Explain how deadlocks work?
A: Hire me and I will explain how they work.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: Celebrating 22s 22m 22h 22/12/2022.
Strangely enough they hired me 😎1 -
I am traveling 550 Km (9hrs) just to give my first interview for the position of Jr. Natural Language Processing Engineer.

I just nailed an online interview for a job that I’ve been trying to get for ages
However, during the interview my dog just would not stop barking. I told the interviewer that I needed just a second to take care of it, and I got up to put my dog in another room.
Although I had a nice dress shirt on to appear professional, I didn’t think it was necessary to put on dress pants since only my upper half would be on screen, I instead opted for a pair of comfortable green athletic shorts and moccasins. I did not realize until after the interview was over that I had accidentally made a fool of myself by showing my entire outfit while walking to my bedroom door. I bet he will have a good laugh with his colleagues about that one.9 -
Made a video-call interview. I was asked to design and start the development of a chatbot. I sent my work. Never had a response. A friend of mine was recruited and told me, my entire code was used in the company. :)
Just a test they said.10 -

"So... in the entire span of your professional career, you've never had someone you could call a mentor?"
"Uh, nope, been mostly on my own."
"How did you learn new things?"
"I read a lot of Hacker News."
True story.8 -
A co-worker/friend came in to work this morning and told me how amazing his interview went yesterday and how amazing the company is. He said he won't know if he got the position till Monday after they interview the other guy.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that the other person they are interviewing is me. I think it might get awkward when Monday comes and I'm not at work and he realizes why.15 -
During an interview today for angular:

So I got a call from a recruiter this morning, about a job for a C++ developer what experience developing for embedded systems.
He sent my resume off to the company and they actually want an in person interview the same day.
I'm going to this interview in 2 hours, I'm really nervous, I haven't had an interview in years...

1. Applied to a tech company based in Seattle

Then, why did you interview me in the first place? :')4 -
Had an interview in a MNC company.
He: Propose a solution for reading huge logs file like 1 GB and parse errors with today's date.
Me: Gave two solution, one with regex and second with buffering the logs (reason: reading the entire in same shot will cause cpu spike with huge memory consumption) and I fell in love with my second approach. By the way it was on paper.
He: (Without seeing the logic) Your syntax is wrong.
Me: Got frustrated who the hell checks syntax in interview. I asked how may years of experience you have?
He: 10 years.
Me: I don't wanna continue, and I left.5 -

Le me at the end of an interview
Recruiter: What is your salary expectations

Me: well, about x USD.
Recruiter: that's ok for us.

Had a skype interview yesterday...
> prepared for interview, checked internet and all
> home internet died literally 1 minute before call
> started interview using phone hotspot
> phone hotspot died in 1/3 interview duration
> used mom's phone's hotspot
> died in 2/3 interview duration
> oh shit
> went out to phone company's office to get more data
> half way to the office, mom calls: home internet is working!
> yaay! goes back home
> nop, internet isn't working (glitch in mom's phone which showed it to be working (wifi symbol))
> goes back to the office
> gets phone recharged (office people were SO slow 😑)
> gets back home
> continues and finishes the interview...
10/10 will do again 😂😂😂😂
The interviewer was quite patient, and waited for me to get back home (he called me 2-3 times to get a heads up)
Lol this was honestly THE most exciting and fun interview experience for me yet!
The interview questions were pretty easy btw (programming)
Waiting for result now...9 -

on my first job interview(7 years ago when Android wasn't populer yet) the recruiter was like "so, you know Android?" and I was like "yeah I got 3 months of experience" so he just told me immediately "great, when can you start"

Real story at a screening interview:
Me(interviewer): how do you convert a string into a number in Javascript?
Candidate: what do you mean?

First post.
Went for an interview today. Guy asked me to write chess and gave me a pen and a single blank page. Wondering what does he mean by that, he said start and we will see. Still confused what i am suppose to write, told him it will require way more than one paper to write chess. His response you are not interested in coding. I was like what the hell is going on. After 5 minutes, HR came and told me I can leave for the day.9 -
My worst interview ever was my first interview fresh out of college. After the initial phone screen, they asked me to drive 2 hours to their office to give me a "code challenge."
The challenge was to spend 4 hours writing a simple rest API for a blog type thing, but the catch was to not use any existing libraries for data access and instead write an entirely database agnostic DAL. Then after I finished they sat me in a conference room with 3 of their engineers and the CEO to just tear apart my code.
For a JUNIOR position to someone fresh out of college.
I guess I defended it well, because they asked to continue the process l, but after that I found a different position.4 -

Interviewer: *looking at my GitHub* do you use devrant?
Me: ...yes
Interviewer: ok, cool
I had an interview once where the dev interviewing me recognised that I had devrant avatar as my github profile picture.
Maybe that was one of the reasons they didn't get back to me after that interview? 🤔7 -
I don't like interview questions that ask about which libraries you use or what libraries you like. I think these questions are stupid. I'm not supposed to like a library. I'm supposed to use the most suitable tool for the project at hand.2

Did a code test at an interview, had to aggregate data from a db. They stored cities with population count and users referenced cities.. 6 cities had a higher user count than population 🤔
They were a little taken back and suggested the population data must be outdated 😉.. it got a bit awkward1 -
Me talking with my manager for handover before I leave. Just found out, there is an interview for my position, full stack dev.
No one bother asking me or the manager for tech interview and general manager from business interview alone by herself.
Manager: Do you code?
Poor soul: Yes, I do.
Manager: You are hired!
Shit, now I want to know what they ask to tech candidate without tech ppl.6 -
Welp. That was fun.
Just had an interview I wasn't even expecting. Basically the company emailed me saying that the role has been filled and as such the interview has been canceled.
And I'm like ok. Thanks for letting me know.
Then at literally the same time someone sent me a skype request asking me if I'm ready.
I get another email saying they're sorry about the inconvenience and hope my front end interview goes well... like. Wtf.
Why didn't they specify which? And why wait so long ffs.
I had two interviews with them. They stood me up on the last one and i emailed and never heard back.
So now I just had the most awkward interview in my life.
I was so rattled I forgot the answer to a simple af question. What's a JavaScript closure.
I wanna cry but it was so bad I wanna laugh3 -

One of my colleagues held a very short, literally 5 minutes, interview today. The candidate was looking for an android developer position.
Me: Done already?😕
C: Yep. Had enough.
Me: How come?
C: I asked him if he has any apps on the store? No. Any public git? No. Any apk? No.
C: Ok what experience do you have?
Dude: I worked on a app similar to imdb 4 years ago. I made a page for it.
C: *Page* *triggered* *internal screaming* 😂
C: Ok and since then?
Dude: Nothing.
C; Ok, we'll call you.
Best ot luck in your android dev career mate. Never gonna hear from us.
How can you come to an interview and be so unprepared. Was he delosutional or something?😕2 -
Just had an internship interview. I may be pretty good at coding but god am I awful at programming under pressure..4
-
Anyone else had an interviewer just blatantly waste your time and lie to you?
I was recently interviewing for a job, the first couple of rounds went really well, and they gave out a fairly standard tech test. It was a basic tic-tac-toe game, with a few extra twists and a 120 minute time limit. They then wanted me to host what I had be able to code somewhere so they could test it out before the second technical interview.
The interview interview date came round, the interviewer never actually showed up, but 20 minutes late he sent me an email saying they wouldn't be going ahead because the code wasn't good enough, and cited a bunch of things that were well outside of the brief they gave for the test. and when I checked the access logs for the hosted 'live' version, it showed they hadn't bothered to actually look at it; they hadn't even checked out the code from the repo.
I've had similar things happen in the past occasionally, but is it just my bad luck, or is stuff like this becoming more common recently?6 -
Most horrific interview process I had gone through was by the CMMI level 5 company.
They had asked common Java questions & then after an interview they had not called back.
Suddenly, after a year I had got a call from them, I had barely remembered that past interview & still they had reminded me about the same.
Then they had said that that I got selected & offered me 10% less salary than I demanded a year back.
When I had asked why I had been offered less salary than even my current salary?
Then they had said they were CMMI level 5 company, so based on that in my next job after joining their company, I could demand more salary.
I had said them that I will reply after a year & had cut the call.
I think I did the correct thing 😎.1 -
Recently attended a final stage interview. So far probably spent 60% of the time discussing my previous roles/experience - (sigh) Then along comes the "Core Java" questions. FINALLY!! My chance to really shine.
Q: How do you make an object a singleton?
I give my answer, thinking this is the ice breaker question and ready for the next question...
Nope, thats it! Apart from the automated tech test in the previous round, my entire tech ability is measured by whether I can memorise a design pattern!8 -
I had a job interview today. Things got a bit awkward when the guy doing the interview (a head of tech) brings into the interview one of their midweight devs and I became the interviewer rather than the interviewee.2

/* Not a rant, more like a story with a good ending */
Le me finally got an interview for a big company, started preparing for technical questions, white board test, basically anything related ti a technical interview. The role was for a graduate software developer as i just finished my college and is my first ever interview with a company.
At the interview, he sat down and said " it will be a friendly and a very informal type of interview " and then carried on to ask me about my interests and past experiences and shared some details about the company and technology they work with. At one point i started ranting about some problems i was in due to javascript's nature of compiling even though syntax isn't right and we both had a good laugh as well about it. Idk but i felt like the interviewer made me feel really comfortable so that anything we were having a chat about was without stress, as i was nervous the whole time before the interview for being my first expereince ever.
After leaving the office i felt like this was too simple for the role i applied for and thought the company might not be interested, 4 days letter i got a mail that they are offering me the role as the feedback from interviewer was excellent.
Pretty wierd but fun experience frankly.2 -
Tomorrow I am having an interview with Apple.

So I went through the first round Google interview process and was declined for not "finishing fast enough" even though I did in fact solve the problem in the allotted time.
Either it's a BS excuse and they were just interviewing me to interview me for a quota or there is some invisible time limit that I am not aware of.
Really annoys me when I just don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong and instead get what feels like cop out answers.4 -
My friend recently went through technical interview for a very specific position in very niche technology. Which I will call technology A.
He is an expert in technology A, but interview was in technology B. All questions were about technology B, which has very little to do with technology A.

How do you judge the ability of the candidates during the interview?
Sometimes I find it hard to score their ability. I have seen some candidates with x years on paper yet does not know git more than push and pull.
Also there are few who didnt do very well at the interview, however we hired and doing quite well at work.
(As I also had a hard time getting a job before, I sometimes feel bad to reject some who seems to have good personality but didnt do well at work)5 -
I'm always asked in an interview:
Q:How did you get into programming
A:Hacking
Q:How do you keep upto date and what blogs do you like
A: HACKING Blogs and just general multiple websites.
Q: Have you ever spent time in prison or been convicted?
A: -_- Nope3 -

Today's interview not went well. Shit, that company instead of paying other online talent test sites, they have their own version. Horrible experience, I never type code in text box.
Worst experience 😣1 -
Just compleeeetteellyy messed up a technical interview.. stupid theory.. I can apply all that stuff but when I get asked to explain then . Well.. I messed up.
And the coding part, I had the right approach but had one big brainfart in it making the whole thing useless (pseudo code so couldnt test it). I realized just after the interview was finished..
I hate the feeling of failure.
Was a really nice position which is why I applied. Ah well, tonight is whiskey night I guess.8 -
I have an interview with Google in less than 3 hours. It really sucks because I'm totally not motivated to do it. I didn't study much for the interview, because I recently switched companies and had a lengthy job search. And I finally landed at a decent job that I'm having a great time working for. And to be totally honest, I just have interview fatigue. It started in late May and ended in August. Countless interviews asking the same damn questions just gets exhausting. Too "homework assignments" in addition to my "day job". I'm just burned out on interview hence I just haven't had it in me to really study for a Google interview.5

Candidate: We have a 'var' keyword

Me: Do you have any questions for me or the company that I can help to answer?
Candidate: Normally I have many questions to the future teammates, but you're not from the team I'm interviewing for so no I have no questions.

I had a quick phone interview with them and also asked me for an in person interview that same week on Wednesday. After that interview, the guy asked if I could come back for some paperwork because they have found a job for me to start the next Monday. This was exciting.
Monday at the new job, I dressed up in fitted suit and all thinking the company will also interview me. I walked in and the director was like, "welcome, you know you don't have to dress up for this job right? Feel free!" They took me to me workstation with an already clean set up.
I was confused and my stupidity asked: "what time is the interview?". The immediate supervisor I was going to be working with replied, "no need for that. We got you because of your skills. That's all we need so we both went water each other's time".
Long story short, I worked with them for almost a year but due to financial issues they couldn't extend my contract. However, the director got me a new permanent job at one of his friends office and says he will hire me back in a heartbeat if things go well at his place.
I kind of feel bad leaving the recruiter because he was one of those who actually cared and willing to help entry level.4 -
I got an interview for a software internship in SF! So happy right now! Extremely nervous about the interview, guess I have to study up on some algos :)2
-
So here I'm, going for an interview but I'm not allowed to show my previous work, since it might give compatitive edge to the organisation interviewing me. But still it does not matter if my supervisor boasts about the work in public forums like conferences.....what kind of secrecy is this :'(3
-
To those following the saga so far...
ya boi just had his followup python interview.
YIKES. Like, i aint even sure if it went bad or not.
Wish me luck.
Corey Schafer! Bless me!!!5 -
My first interview was the interview where I cheated and got the job, it was an on campus job interview. I did not have a good gpa, (to be honest it was really bad i was below the 25th percentile)
Anyway this was the only (developer) job interview I knew I could qualify for, I was pretty sure that if I couldn't nail this one then I could kiss my dream of programming professionally good bye.
We were about 25 kids sitting in a class room with a pencil and couple of sheets of paper and the the interview panel walked between the seats looking at what we wrote.
So, when I couldn't write an algorithm for the problem of square rooting a number n. I panicked (was literally shivering with tears rolling down my cheeks, thankfully nobody saw me as i was on the last bench) I gave up, wiped my tears and stared at the board, a panel member saw me and told me to leave after looking at my paper. This was the moment my mind decided (not me but someone else inside me) that I have to do whatever it took, so just when I was stepping out and grabbed my bag i quickly opened the browser of my phone inside the bag typed square root algorithm opened the first result and read the words arrive at the answer by binary search, ass soon as I read that my mind worked at a pace that it has never managed ever since that time, and i knew the solution in a matter of seconds, i dropped my bag when to one of the more sympathetic panel members and explained the whole thing to him on the spot, he was impressed, and he asked me how this algorithm can be extended for the nth root(which is really simple once you have the algorithm for square root) and i blurted it out instantly which impressed him even more and offered me the job on the spot and told me to attend the next 2 rounds as a formality.
Thus i saved myself for a world of hurt and now I am a developer who thinks back to that day every time I need a boost of morale1 -
My dumbass fucked up a good interview by looking down on the company I was interviewing for unintentionally (:
They outsourced the "core" finance code to a 3rd party B2B provider and I was like "oooooooooh so y'all are only a wrapper? That explains why you didnt do super-crazy background check on me hahaha"
I ended up sounding suspicious af :'v8 -
Okay so here is how my day is going.
Recruiter 1: I have this oppertunity for you and here are a couple of dates for you to have the interview.
Upon arrival:
Bossman: I didn't see the appointment until this morning and normally I won't hold an interview without my two developers. Anyways, here is the introduction to our company.
Recruiter 2 calls in the middle of the interview. After which I call back.
Recruiter 2: got this oppertunity at this company for you and if you wish they are available this afternoon.
Now I'm on my way to that interview. Hope this one goes better.9 -
I had a technical test on Tuesday on Linux and SQL. I thought I failed. I get a call that I did pretty well and now they want me for an interview. Naturally, I get very excited.
I get a date for the interview and get ready to shine... until I accept the video call and find out that it is a technical interview! But this time instead I have to express myself in a foreign language.
(And also not with the people I was supposed to have the interview with)
No worse way to stress someone XYZ company! Totally uncool!!!
I think now I can go in a shadowy corner and whimper.9 -
Today I was asked a question on JavaScript regarding the difference between normal `for` loop and a `map` function on an array with regards to closures. Can anyone help me understand? #javascript #interview12

A recruiter at https://skillcombo.com/ was conducting an interview via video link, the candidate was wearing a pressed white shirt and a stylish tie with doughnuts from The Simpsons. During the interview, the quality of the connection began to deteriorate and the candidate asked for a moment to turn up the volume on the speaker behind him. This required him to stand up and then my eyes were opened to the stunning lingerie of Homer Simpson and those same doughnuts, they complemented his whole image magnificently.3

Just had my second interview at Freitag and it was quite fun. At the end I was talking about anime and bass playing instead of IT stuff xD
Hope I get it :D3 -
3days later i have an interview in a company, i messed up first one😂😎
but i study more again i hate making mistakes. -
Okaaay.....so after I got fucked at the technical interview i returned there the following day and wrote them code for a system that was actually on their pipeline
Left the thing 80% complete and they were like: Amaizing we will be in touch
And I left bouncing1 -
Since everyone rants about interviews, I think that's the perfect time to ask this.
In a week, I'm going to have my first interview.
Its for an apprenticeship as "Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration".
For the non-german speakers, pretty much sysadmin,server-engineer, sometimes internal tech-support.
The company isn't a tech-company, but a logistics-company.
The interview will be done by the boss of the company's location and the lead of the IT-department.
So, what should I expect, what questions and such ?3 -
Hi. I did an interview recently and failed. I could not answer this question properly.

I think it's more of a critical thinking problem. I dont know.
Whow knows how to explain this?32 -
I just completed an online screening programming test for an interview, where I am fairly confident that I horribly failed. How long does it take until you stop hating yourself?5
-
You know it's an awesome interview when they show you their robot at the end. It's also serves drinks!1
-
Still in the interview phase.
I am waiting for an answer again.
The interview was 4 hours but I really
enjoyed it. The office looked so nice it could have been at Google inc.3 -
I've actually really enjoyed getting to interview people. Mostly because I'm given the freedom to ask reasonable questions. At this point, my favorite is asking fresh grads to come up with requirements to make their favorite portfolio bit production-ready.
I want a list of things you need to fix because they're duct tape and bubblegum, but a lot of people sit there with passwords in plaintext and suggest new features. -
Finished work early and raced home to have a telephone interview and the company "forgot" to ring me 😣
Next day they emailed to say sorry, mix up at our end, we'll send you some new times. 3 days later I get an email with a list of times and they are all mid morning or afternoon, so I'd need to book time off work for them
Really don't know if I can be bothered anymore, the thought of working for them has lost its appeal already and I've not even had the first interview yet.
Also, I wonder what would have happened if id forgotten to attend the interview? Doubt I would have gotten a second chance... -
In interview tests I don't mind you testing for me to know something. However I don't care for tests that are designed to verify the lead is smarter.1
-
Had my first and second stage interviews with a company all in the space of a few days.
Literally the day after the second interview, I got an email back saying I impressed them and they'll get back to me with the details of the next stage of the process soon (whether that's another interview or something else I don't know).
That was 2 weeks ago. Waiting and not knowing is the worst thing ever!!7 -
Bad interview experience:
Went to HR interview: boring company's history class first. Asked what projects do they need me for. He didn't knew but he was able to underline some letters on my cv, based on what I was choosed to come: wpf.
After one week I went to technical interview. Still no answer about what/where should I work within their company. Apparently this developer's job was just to evaluate me. So I had few questions to answer. While I've talked about stuff, he was chatting on keyboard and smiling.
I'm sorry I didn't left at that moment and stayed until the end. After that nobody contacted me again with any refusal. -
Apparently if you go to an interview desperately filled with hope, your eyes and body language will rat you out and people won't want to hire you. Ok, so they want to hire someone who's not desperate for a job? That's not easy to hide..8
-
Why all these SW engineer interviews include 2 days of questions about sophisticated algorithms which i have never (and probably will never) have chance to even reuse, because they are NOT simple & understandable for any project community? IMO It is like asking to show Assembler skills on frontend-dev interview...4
-
Went for an interview yesterday, the interviewer was trying to speak in British accent, it was really bad. I was cringing the whole time.
Trying really hard to forgot then whole awful experience... :D
I hope someone tells the poor guy, how bad that accent sounds. -

Have anyone of you ever asked during an interview why did the previous developer leave the job at this company?
I just want to know if it's good or bad thing to ask during an interview. I don't want to sound rude.6 -
Hey guys, whenever you talk about your weakness in interview, what would be the best thing to say? Weak on multitasking, for example, would be a sample answer?16
-
So is it just a standard thing, now, where interviewers get you to do a coding problem remotely on a shared notepad while they watch you over video chat? For me at least, it is the most uncomfortable style of interview I've experienced. I don't think I'll ever get through one :(4
-
Waiting for a job interview to happen for the last hour. After a long week and day, stuck in the traffic getting here, paid unnecessary money to the taxi. Thinking about leaving the company without doing the interview for the last 15 minutes. Fuck job interviews anyway.4

Is it a bad sign when after an interview they say they have more candidates and that they'll get back to me after?

me: damn, that interview went so bad. this company will not offer me the job.
*1 month later
got the job offer as software engineer from the company.
should i accept it?lol1 -
HALP!
So, I have a phone interview for a job that is basically the same job I have now, but they use c# instead of Java.
I'm only a year into my first programming job, and I'm not really sure what kind of questions they're going to be asking during this interview.
Anyone have any good examples?9 -
What's a good way to guage someone's domain modelling expertise in an interview? I don't want to make people go do an at-home project because we aren't big enough to be filtering candidates who won't do it, simply because they can't be doing that for every application.
Technology I can ask questions about, but stuff like DDD I think it's hard to know without seeing them work.2 -
I have an onsite technical interview test tomorrow. I have no clue what to expect as I have always done it online.
Should I expect it to be the same system but me just doing the online test in their offices 🙄?
NB: After the test I have an interview with the hiring manager.3 -

This rant is about a company that I applied for through my college. There were 3 steps for selection
1- Aptitude test
2 -2 Technical Interviews
3 - HR Interview
30 Students cleared the first round and were asked to wait for interview call.
The interviews were planned a week after the test and during that week I fell ill, and still I somehow managed to go to the interview and due to being sick I wasn't able to speak clearly, I coughed whenever I tried to speak.
Still I managed to clear my first Interview because the Interviewer co-operated with me and was patient when I coughed while speaking.
But then came the second Interview, the interviewer here was such a dick that when I coughed I was asked why did I even come for Interview?
Whenever I coughed he was like don't waste my time hurry up.
I am really happy that I wasn't selected in that company because I won't work in a company where people don't even have the etiquettes for speaking with someone.
so at the end all I want to say is FUCK YOU CUNTS from *** labs2 -
How do I interview or access a potential teammate? What are the things to look out for and what are the appropriate questions to ask?

Internship/Career Question
I was able to get a referral for a software engineering internship at a company I like this summer. This will be my first “real-life” internship and I’m super excited.
The referral ended up getting me an interview with the company’s “Principal Talent Attraction Consultant”.
What show I expect for this meeting? Is it possible that there is a whiteboarding part of this interview? Or would it be more general?
Lmk if I’m being too vague. Thanks guys!3 -
Can anyone give me tips for my first Interview for the web developer spot of a large local company?2
-
My worst interview was almost a year ago. I was very excited to interview with this company since it looked liked they were very focused and new what they wanted. I had two phone interviews before they brought me in. My final interview was with the ceo who had no productive knowledge of technology whatsoever. When I found out they were redeveloping systems for deployment on deface rent servers, which would also require their sales people to learn yet another password, I asked why they didn't consolidate their systems and re-use what they have. The Eco simply responded with, servers go down. I wanted to reply with, damn somebody should tell Netflix or google this rid but of information. I was basically done at that point.
I interviewed at my current workplace a few short hours later. -
I need to help out my manager to interview angular developer candidate which I don't have any experience on Angular development. I was darn nervous interviewing those people, relying on some reading on angular documentation, articles and tutorials but after few interviews. I manage to get into the momentum to conduct interview smoothly.
After two weeks of doing it, now I'm kinda understand Angular thanks to some great candidate explaining those concept clearly ( hope you get hired on the next round of interview).2 -
What’s up with HR calling to do technical interview and asking questions she doesn’t even know the answers to? Bruh, all that time I thought I was speaking with the Hiring Manager only to find out she’s HR when I asked her ONE technical question then she goes..”Oh, I won’t be able to answer that. I’m not technical in this role, I’m just the HR but I can schedule an onsite interview with the hiring manager.”
Me: I believe it’ll be beneficial to have a phone conversation or interview with the hiring manager before deciding if it’s worth coming onsite for an in-person interview.
HR: Ok, I’ll see his availability.
I’m not even concerned if she calls back or not. Plus the rate she’s talking about is really disrespectful.2 -
Am I the only one who gets stupid nervous for interviews, I always get the hand shakes real bad about T-20 before the interview then they go away about T-5 before the interview. Doesn't matter what I am interviewing for, every time.6
-
Apparently i cleared the three rounds of the interview, and was asked to attend the fourth round (telephonic) with the cofounder. After some intro, he asked me two math problems, which i was unable to answer. Interview ended there. This feels weird because in the last three years, i have never been asked a math problem in an interview. And that too in the final round? I have a feeling they already hired someone else and was looking for a way to reject me? Feels shitty anyway. Thoughts?3

I went to an interview and they say they will call me within 2 week if I pass the first round of interview.
They don't call me so I assume I fail the interview and life went on.
I received the call today said I pass the first interview and if I wanted to come for second interview. My first thought is Fuck Off.
My acquaintance work for that company and we have a frank conversation. What is going on is that they are overwork and the other department complain that they don't have output from IT department.
When they ask IT department why don't produce output, head of IT department said they don't have enough people. HR department reluctantly allow them to hire more people and they phone me. My acquaintance apologize for the move that their company make. My acquaintance also said that he/she will also pass my decision to their department head.
I have meet everyone is that IT department whom I am going to work with and I like them. They are not only knowledgeable but also a nice person. More importantly they value the quality of work. They are the kind of person I like working with.
What I don't like is their HR department and they only call me when their departments work stale.
Here is my problem, I like the people I am going to work with but I don't like the company that they think I am kind of "backup". The company is the reputable company and it will be easier for me to find other job if I decided to quit and apply for other job.
I know the price range that they are willing to hire me due to first interview and the probing question I asked.
I was thinking of asking for salary outside their price range and think how it goes. If they are willing to hire me despite the ridiculous salary I asked , I may tolerant to work with them.
How do you think I should handle the situation?2 -

I want to share one of my recent interview experience..
so first round was telephonic and technical guy seems cool as he did not emphasis on syntax, function name etc.. but just took the info of my tech on which I am working on and discuss some approaches to find a solution towards the problem.. ( I guess thats pretty well for experienced dev)
Second round was assignment and its a hell of assignment :( atleast for me.. Like I work in CI 3 and I did assignment on CI 4. almost everything is changes in CI 4 ( I mean its structure writing the way of routes, models and controllers).. But I took the challenge personally and finished 95% of assignment ..
Overall this interview experience was pleasant one.. :) -

so, I somehow got an interview with NASDAQ for the summer internship this year. somehow it was the only company that had cleared my resume for the interview process, other companies didn't even scheduled one.
and I messed up the first technical interview.
the interviewer asked me to find the largest element in a nested list in python.
for ex [[3,4],[5,2,9],[1,7]] would return [4,9,7]
it was a verbal interview on call and he asked what would I use? Lambda function or list comprehension.
I said lambda function. (I knew it was list comprehension, if I had to code I wouldn't have got confused between the two)
later he asked a couple of questions about linux and boot processes, I could answer some of the basic ones but not after 3rd or 4th question.
now I don't think I have anything to do for summer, as it's a little too late for finding the internships.
any advice?10 -
Just started reading Cracking the Coding Interview and I just can't help but think this whole thing is a joke. The author can't even give a convincing argument why learning algorithm is important for interview. She simply states word for word: it is what it is.
I google her a bit and find that she started her venture Careercup.com and the website is such a joke. How can you even call yourself a software engineer with a website like that. I am pretty sure she using some kind of wordpress engine.

Just applied for a new job, and I am through to the 3rd stage of the interview process (4 stages in total). This stage is a digital interview, where you get asked a question have 30 seconds to a couple of mins to think of an answer and then you are recorded and have 1 opportunity to give an answer.
I HATE this process, I think it's an unnatural and unfair way to assess someone's ability and skill.
I would love to know your thoughts and expirences on digital intrviews.
