About 3 Months ago I was fired from my old company and I had to find something new. On the day I was fired I started searching for a new job immediately. After 1 week of interviews and trial work I got 3 offers for a job. There were also some other offers that would've came in but I decided to take a offer by a company I felt comfortable with. This was the best decision of my life. This company is 10x more organized, we use version control and I only do development. In the old company there was no version control and I also had to do shit like hanging up curtains in hotels. Imagine what insurance would think of me if I had an accident there and they would ask me what my profession is 🙃 Sometimes getting fired is the best thing that could happen to you.

I'm currently applying for a lot of jobs and I will work at 3 companies for a day next week and there will probably be even more offers. At the end, once I have all offers, how do I pick the best job? Do you guys have any recommendations or experiences I don't have? I'm applying as a web developer if that is relevant

When the new gdpr came out there was a old website which was a table and there were no includes so I would've had to copy and paste the privacy link to every single page. So I wrote some JavaScript that finds the a Tag with a specific text inside and if it matched it placed a new a tag next to it for the privacy link. Works flawlessly so far but it is the hackiest thing I have ever done 😅

So we worked on a masterpiece of a Webapp in our team at work and we were presenting it to our team members and nothing worked...

Absolute fail... We fixed everything now but the effect is gone.

I am a webdeveloper in full-time. I would really love to learn other things as well and code on sone side projects. But whenever I come home from work I always feel like I've already coded enough for the day and then I don't have any motivation to do something. Do you have any tips?

Once I was doing some work on our sql database and I showed my boss the query I wrote and he then told me that it is way to broad. It does the trick but it searches much more. So he showed me the right query and told me that a database is like a extremely easy to trigger person. So we want to ask only as little as possible to not get the database pissed. Since he told me that, it is now stuck in my brain and I will never forget to optimise my queries :D

So when I started as an intern in the company work in now, I tried to create a hover effect with JavaScript and after 4 hours I didn't get it and I asked my colleague. He was like: "dude there is a :hover pseudoclass that does exactly what you want". That was my most embarrassing moment haha

I have to confess something... As you all know the new GDPR law is right around the corner and I am a web developer. That means we had to update all our websites so they comply with the new law. On one website (which was quite old) I had to add a link to the privacy page in the footer. Which doesn't sound too bad but... there was no include file for the footer and I there were a lot of sites I would have to edit. So I did my first ever hack...

I added a js script in the headscripts include which was on every site and it looked for the imprint link. If it found the imprint link it placed the privacy link right next to it. This was the hackiest thing I ever did.

So me and my colleague were buying some food at a store here in Germany and just as it was our turn the power went out and everything crashed. So we waited and waited and waited... While all other counters were working again we had to wait even more haha but at least they use linux for this :)

TLDR: A huge company that does server administration can't set up a server the right way and we have to explain to them how to do that.

Alright guys...

So today was a rather hard day at work. We are currently working on a project with a well known company here in germany. Sadly we always have to talk with a company that then talks to the main company. Lets call that company IBC (inbetween company). IBC wanted a timeline from us. We gave them a Timeline that showed when all the shit has to be done, so we could launch the project at the right time. The timeline is super tight, so there is no room for any big fuck ups (smaller scale fuck ups are okay, they were considered when making the timeline). Well sadly IBC couldn't deliver the shit we needed at the right time. Thus we can't really get all the stuff done, like we agreed on in the timeline. Long story short: we still have to get the shit done according to the timeline. As if that wasn't bad enough... IBC's server company had to set up the servers so we could upload the project. Lets call that company SEC (server company). So SEC obviously should know that we are using images, javascript and CSS. Sadly we discovered that our CSS, JS and our images were not working on their server. Guess why... because they fucking didn't configure their server to be able to display images and CSS. Also JS didn't work. So we contacted them and told them that their shit doesn't work. Also *WE* explained to them how to fix that shit. SEC should know that, but apparently they didn't. All they fucking do is work with servers... Also SEC is not some small company they are fucking huge... After two fucking hours they managed to fix that on the testserver. You will never guess what they asked next... They called us and they honestly (I sincerely swear) asked us if we need to be able to use JS, images and CSS on the production server... *HUGE FUCKING FACEPALM*... WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU STUPID CUNT? HOW IS OUR PROJECT SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING WITHOUT THAT. Me and my colleague (whom I told endless times to join devRant :D) still can't believe how retarded SEC and IBC is... THE FUCKING END

When I was around twelve I became interested in computers, a lot and my parents didn't like that so they always tried to make me interested in other stuff. I wasn't having it. Whenever they weren't around, I was on the PC! Well after some time they accepted that I love PCs a lot, but they were always thinking I was just playing. When I got my first web dev internship, they started realising that it is my passion. Since then they are very supportive and they got to know that there is a lot of money to make in that industry. They also got me into some small contracts with their friends where I got a good amount of pocket change :)

When I woke up I checked if they shipped my order and guess what... Amazon fucking told me to choose another payment option and I was only able to choose a credit card... I dont even fucking have a credit card and why the fuck didnt you tell me right away when I selected my usual payment method? A big FUCK YOU to Amazon. I bought the watch on ebay now and it will arrive on saturday and Im so mad about it...
