Anyone saw "The Crash" yet?
Feel free to discuss the technical merits of the film, after all this is devRant, but I've only got just one question. If you've may already know, if not, spoilers be waiting 😈1
Um, when are holiday party stories not awkward?
Like seriously, it's as if murphy's law intensifies ten-fold anytime there's a tangible reference point for everyone and their mama to remember it by 🙄
So I think it just suddenly dawned on me why the south has been so slow to embrace the 21st century....18
First the web, then then the world muahahaha 🦹🏻♂️
Ok no really, probably just try to get a remote job building ui's or doing animations then who knows, maybe I'll build a robot or something 🤷🏻♂️1
So I just discovered rwby a few hours ago... glad to see rooster teeth hasn't lost their talent for binge worthy.7
So I just got to relive a portion of my early college days for the third time this year. First being when my dad asked if there was even a job available for me to be studying web development for, 2nd, when he tried to talk my cousin into an ME job close to home that paid a quarter of what the ML job he had already been given out in cali.
This time however it was my mother surprisingly. Another cousin of mine decided she didn't want to continue pursuing a nursing degree. Mom said she was considering accounting instead since she's always like math, to which I made the comment, "well why don't she consider computer science".
"But she doesn't like computers and accounting has always been a good career choice."
"In the past sure, but future outlook is that they're going to be nothing more than glorified bookkeepers and paid as such. And using a prewritten computer program and writing a computer program yourself are completely different things."
"Well she can always use it to keep the books for her dad's business...."
Before I continue allow me to add some context to that statement. My mother is a soon to be a retired public school teacher, 10 years or so teaching 6th grade math and another 10 not even in a specific classroom, rather coaching new teachers on how to do their job.
Along with that she spent 3, maybe 4 years doing the accounting via quickbooks for the gravel pit my dad backed my uncle on, and despite the recession, not having an accounting degree and, most importantly, the extraordinary attempts my uncle made at running that business along with his logging business into the ground, she managed to keep the books balanced, taxes filed and ultimately the company out of the red for as long as there was rock in the ground to be mined.
And then some even because my shit for brains uncle decided to take his own "samples" and convince my dad to keep the pit going when me and every other hand out there was telling him every day that we were pulling nothing but sand out of there, sand that we have still yet to sell. (thinking of taking a dozer and carving out a giant amphitheater out of it since it's just sitting there piled up. Whatdya think, probably just collapse back over the course of a week? 😒)
So anyway you'd think with all that she'd realize that the need for certified accountants was dwindling. Or even that maybe, regardless of whether they like it or not, accountants use computer software to do their job.
Welcome to mississippi 21st century, where even the highly educated don't even remotely understand what a computer is. But I digress...
"Mother, you haven't needed an accounting degree to file one company's taxes in years and that's going to become even less so in the off chance that the dickheads in washington pull their head out of their ass and pass the bill to simplify the tax code. The only "accounting" jobs that will exist in ten years will be the few offered from financial software companies".
Paraphrasing and adding color of course, my mother would slap the shit outa me if I used that kind of language around her.
"Son why do you want to start an argument about this?" 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Ok so first of all I led off with a statement that you of all people should know to be true and second the argument that your trying to make is based on facts that haven't been relevant since turbo tax come out with their small business package.
But I didn't say that, rather just the word whatever because anytime I get of accused of "starting an argument" that means that she's still not going to listen despite not having any ground to stand on.
Instead I drive home, pull up the link for automate the boring stuff with python and send it to my cousin saying that it should help her with her homework if that's the degree she ends up choosing to pursue. Also added to not be intimidated by the idea that it was a "computer language" because for the bulk of it (at least in that book) the code was written in a functional style and would be a lot like learning basic algebra. Even sent her a couple examples.
Intrigued would mildly sum up the conversation that followed. To add a quote for further illustration "wow that is so cool, I always did like math. I never would've imagined."
Guess mentioning computer science as a possibility wasn't such a far fetched idea for her after all 🙄
But mostly because it's the only one I've figured out so far. The others seem like they would be nice 🙄2
Is it just me or is lenovo's website a complete mess? Try to filter down the product list in the wrong order and you'll find yourself feeling like your playing carpenter in an old donald duck cartoon.
And what the hell makes a laptop a 2 in 1 anyway. Obviously not what I thought it was. Is it to much to ask for a hinge option or something in the filter list?
All I really want is a laptop I can lay flat and draw on. This is taking "I just like to look at the pictures" to a whole new level 🙄8
ugh, fuck me man.
Why is it that anytime someone asks for input I can come up with a million and one interesting design ideas but when I want to build my own shit I draw a complete fucking blank.12
For any of you folks who thought I was kidding about how serious the chicken at popeyes is...
ugh, finally. Every time I decided on one someone would post something else and I'd realize nope, that one is just much of a distraction. But someone just said drills and instantly it was triggered....
It doesn't matter whether it's a shop vac, house vac, or even one of those nifty little, super quiet robot ones (elvis more has the problem with those, personally I think there cool as shit... but don't tell him that 🤫) most definitely, unanimously, vacuum cleaners....
Not even joking either. The first thing I started doing when I moved was ripping the carpet out of the bedrooms so I didn't have to use one.
And I can run drills, sanders, impacts, whatever all day long. The only thing that even comes close to amount of irritation the sound of that electric motor, at those rpms, causes is the sound of the little handheld pneumatic... um, rotary thingy... No idea what those are called, I don't think I've ever worked with anyone that did 🤷🏻♂️
