For the love of buggery, stop watching bloody videos on your bloody phone with the bloody volume turned up.
I was thinking about something, just starting to get in the zone, when suddenly that tinny little speaker opened up a portal into the howling chaos of the underworld.
It sounds like cats fucking in an empty grain silo.
For the next half an hour, there is no room in my head for anything apart from the diabolical echoes of that bollock-wrenchingly hideous noise.3 -
Today my cat, my oldest girlfriend, passed away. She chose to be in the sun for her passing. I'm happy she had a good life in the end with all the space she needed. She did not suffer. It was sudden and just a cardiac arrest.
May she hunt many more mice and little birds in the afterlife.16 -
This is Ubuntu's 20th year, yet it still doesn't hibernate properly.
23.10 often reboots instead of suspending. At least it completes the process, because previous versions would hang midway.
Maybe Ubuntu 44.10 will have it fixed.5 -
@dfox
What does it take to give us some hope the spam around here can be controlled or removed by some power users?
Shit is getting out of control!
I'm pretty sure my ability to -- has been revoked again so that's no longer an option.
Reporting spam doesn't seem to do anything either 🤷♂️

My shower tap has two modes:
- Quark-melting relativistic beam of sizzling hot plasma
- Time-freezing liquid death from the cold heart of Dante’s hell4 -
just came back on here after a while. sad to see, devrant used to be so vibrant and hopeful. i remember when it used to be special for dfox and trogus to comment on posts, and there would be a bunch of really interesting stories.8

anyone else ever focused so hard/long that they peeled an orange(mandarin) to eat, then forgot to eat it so long that it was crispy?
i mean like literally the thin skin remaining was actually crispy... this is me taking a break to remember last times i ate/etc... and hopefully not have more crispy oranges... though tbh wasnt bad10 -
Ok so the ex boyfriend (let's call him Joe) of a friend of mine is a dumbass
He wanted to hack her phone, or whatever, so hired someone on telegram to do it. He asked her phone number and 200€.
After actually giving him the money this guy sent a ransom asking for 2k to not turn Joe in.
Joe learned a lesson.5 -
You all need it.
Today is not a day for pancakes.
Today we need waffles.
Fresh warm waffles. With strawberries.11 -

I kinda hate to admit it but they were right. Data structures and algorithms are kinda the shit and you should try to learn and appreciate them. Not just so you’ll use them. But in that learning them helps you become a better problem solver.
There’s a self taught dev that my company works with for really bespoke applications. A senior dev that works with him and helps manage the development process told me that the dev in question doesn’t really know how to implement the finer details. Very telling indeed.3 -
Dude picking his brain over my coke. Yes I mean attempting to tickle his brain trough the nose hole.
A piece of nasal excrement landed in my coke and made it go fizz, that was how I noticed.6 -
I feel like there are sharp nails in my body. They’re always there, in the heart area. This feeling never goes away.4

I have posted my resume on so many sites, consulted lots of( more like 2) resume experts and still all I get is "thank you for applying for this position..... we value your application and will retain it in our records if we ever have a suitable position for you". I think the universe is telling me to start a startup😅😅. I laugh because secretly the rejection stings😂😂6

ROS is on top of that list. It's a disappointment that has turned into an industry standard.
If ROS can make it, you can make it too!12 -
I hired a guy on upwork. His english is shit. But hes done the work correctly. Fast forward today he asked me "off topic question but do u have any female friend who can accompany me to fuck?"
WTF IS THIS SHIT
That is not professional AT ALL. I dont give a shit about the fact he cant get no bitches so hes begging me as if im some kind of a pimp. On upwork?? Gtfo.
Now i understand why companies want to hire only people with college DEGREES because they have went through the process of conforming and dont ask stupid shit questions. Eliminates a lot of bullshit and Neanderthals like this guy

Story time on my job hunt: Currently interviewing with Google during my notice period.
I always had a love hate relationship with Google. Unlike my hate towards Meta or Amazon, where I had a reason to hate them for how ill intended they are, I never had a valid reason to dislike or hate Google apart from the fact that they steal my data.
That's it. That's my only reason why I hate Google. But I fell in love with their products during my trip to Istanbul and how throughout my journey, Google products were there for me to solve all my needs.
As y'all know, I was treated badly during my Meta interview, last October. With Google, the experience is on another level.
People are fucking smart and ingenious, but at the same time very polite, humble, and respectful.
During my 3 interviews so far (2 more remaining), each one of them made me so comfortable that I was more anxious before the interview than during or after.
They supported me during each question they asked. They made me felt heard and focused on my strength, instead of the weaknesses (or trying to break me down unnecessarily).
The interview syllabus is so fucking vast, and recruiters know so much that they helped me not only with preparation material, but also guided me personally. Haven't seen such knowledgeable recruiters.
The questions were dynamic in nature and thankfully because of my preparation, I was able to answer them most.
Overall, the culture at Google seems brilliant and an environment where one can flourish. No wonder companies are trying to copy every aspect of how Google operates and no surprise that Google is doing well at scale.
I feel so high on emotions (positively), after these interviews that I wonder how would it be to work at Google with such phenomenal people and exceptional environment.7 -
Its all fun and games until your malfunctioning software costs people their lives - if you're just starting out as a dev or in the "ain't nobody got time for writing tests" camp, I highly recommend you to lookup and read about the Therac-25 incidents during the 80s.
Even if you're not working on a life-critical/mission-critical application, the realization of the impact that us devs can have on the society can push you to become a better developer producing quality software...8
