What RSS readers that has a black theme and not requirering signup for Android exists today? I have looked everywhere but cannot find anything that matches my criterias. :o9

Started my first real dev job last week. My laptop was kinda slow at building the project I'm currently working on and mentioned it to a colleague. Next day, I get a practically unused Dell Xps 15 that cost something like 2500 euros. I have never had such a expensive and nice laptop before. Though I have to say that the keyboard actually sucks though. Incredible that laptops for 200 euros have the same keyboards as laptops for 10x the price. :)6

Started my new job this week. I'm a backend developer and need to learn React. What are the best resources to learn? I have managed to install everything and create an example app but I feel like I need some tutoring as I have no idea what I am doing. I'm a JS noob as well so that makes it even more difficult. Do you guys have any recommendations? The official docs for React is kinda lacking imo.

So that was it then. Yesterday was my last day after three years of university studies. I learnt a lot, had a great time and met interesting people. One of them even helped me getting my first developer job. One chapter now ends and a new begins!1

I need a new laptop at work. Money isn't really a problem but it should at least meet the following specs:
14" 1080 bright ips screen
Small form factor, this is very important
Good keyboard and Touchpad. I really hate Apple style keyboards, they hurt my fingers.
Quad core coffee lake, i5 should be fine
>=7 hours of battery life.
Be able to run Linux without any major issues
12-16 GB RAM, preferably upgradable but I think that is impossible these days.
>=256GB ssd, upgradable.
Graphics card is unimportant.
Quiet operation for easy tasks such as coding or web browsing.
I/O is not that important as long as it has hdmi and USB B and C.
Bonus : Small power adapter
It feels like I have looked everywhere for such a machine but I can't find any that is good. There is always compromises.3 -
Five days until I have to submit my thesis for my CS exam...
If I put down 10 hours each day, that makes 50 hours to write my 3 last pages. Should be doable :p -
I guess it's that time to waste a couple of hours having to reinstall drivers, crashing programs and removing bloatware - again.3

When I started my first project with a friend we placed our code in Dropbox and worked simultaneously on it.7

Woho I finally landed my first dev job! I thought my interview went pretty bad but apparently not! So happy right now!5

Transferred photos from phone to my computer for backup . Cable fell out and all pictures became corrupt, both on the phone and computer. Photos was taken during a one time trip to the concentration camps in Auschwitz.
Pretty annoying.2 -
Fuck! Had prepared really well for my exam today. Went to sleep early yesterday and tried to be as rested as possible. To be able to attend the exam we have to show ID. When I came to the registration, I wasn't on the list. Turns out I managed to forget to do it as you only have three days a week before the exam. So now I have to wait 2 months for the reexam. Fucking shit. All this just because I forgot to log in a press a stupid button on the website.2

How do you guys use Github as a portfolio? What I mean is that almost all of my more serious projects are on private repos, so most of my public stuff is mostly just junk.7

Fuck you you piece of shit OS. I just enabled bitlocker and for some reason it broke the desktop. Doesn't seem to be anyway to recover... This was the last fucking time you waste my time Microfuck!2

I just wanted to add my opinion about Linux. I have played around with computers since I was 5 and the last three years I have worked professionaly as a software developer. I have tried Linux many times and have to work with it regurarly on Raspberry Pi's, routers, servers etc. For two months ago I decided to try out Linux as my main desktop operating system. As my machine has some uncommon hardware (Celeron 3450) there was trouble from the start. Getting it installed wasn't as easy as just creating a bootable usb. I had to start a virtual machine and patch the iso with a script to make it bootable. I also had to install a third party bootloader, so just installing it probably took about half a day. To start off, I tried Manjaro, basically Arch with some extras. It looks great, was fast and easy on resources but I couldn't manage to install some essential tools that I needed. So I patched Linux Mint instead and installed it. I've tried all the DE's available, but unfortunatly everyone has some problem. Either it's sluggish or having screen tearing problems and/or buggy. I settled on XFCE as it seemed to work the best. Unfortunatly I have to live with horrendous screen tearing even though I tried many different window mannagers engines like compiz and metacity. Also whenever I plugged in a USB mouse, the keyboard died, requiriing a reeboot. Power settings were messed up so the laptop locked and asked for password twice sometimes and the battery life was 3 hours worse than Windows. The desktop theme bugged so window buttons (maximize, close) disappeared sometimes. I also had problems with the panel not showing when pressing the windows key, apparently that is impossible to fix. Firefox is also kinda bad, wasting like 15 pixels at the top for no reason and not offering many options though Vivaldi got this covered at least. Touchpad was weird too, didn't support gestures and had bad accuracy. During the install I was asked if I wanted to enccrypt my home folder, so I said yes. The other day I need to create a new partition and do some resiszing so I used gparted. Unforutnaly I managed to remove a partition that was encrypted, so after a reboot I coulnd't get into the OS anymore.
That was it, I used Linux Mint as my daily driver for 2 months and every single day I probably spent 0.5-1 hour fixing things. The OS was always in the way for me and what I wanted to do. Don't get me wrong. I love Linux in the sense that it is efficient and open (source) and it have basically taken over in alla areas except just desktops. The desktop experience (doesn't matter which DE) just plain sucks, or I just had bad luck.2 -
I need an idea for a thesis project! It's so hard to come up with a project and research question that can be answered by that project! Our teachers have a list of projects but I don't find anything interesting and those that are I can't come up with a question too.1

Walking
I take 1 hour walks in the woods every day, it clears my head and makes me feel more relaxed and creative.2 -
What are some good resources of reading about coding stuff? I'm talking about blogs, YouTube, news site etc.
I'm currently following Hackernews and reddit/programming which has a lot of interesting links but is there something I've missed?1 -
Can someone explain to me why Linux is preferred before Windows or Mac when developing? I mean when you have the editor open, isn't it the same code anyway? What makes Linux better? I have tried Linux many times but just don't see any advantages to it other than it's more difficult to make the hardware work with it.16

I got java in my blood(no pun intended) and so the other day when I was working in C, I realized this:7

Mom thinks I'm a hacker/computer repair man that is available 24/7. My mom literary thinks she will get virus by opening her front door and is afraid of computers because of the media. My dad used to know some little things but since I started to take care of it he stopped learning and caring about it. Nowadays he doesn't think I do anything and just sit on my ass looking at videos or something.

So I'm pretty fluent in Java, C# and C and now I want to learn something new. I have played around with C++ a little bit and hated it for being so bloated. What are your suggestions? I'm thinking of maybe trying some functional language or maybe plain Javascript. What do you think?2
