Anybody here recommends a good domain registrar? I've been using GoDaddy for mostly everything for years but I'm kind of tired of their shit. Doesn't need to be super private or anything just a good service.
I've heard that Cloudflare now is also becoming a domain registrar, is it good? what do you guys think9
Today I told someone of my team that the changes they made on the backend a few weeks ago fucked up the frontend because they stopped sending some json, he told me no no the frontend must be wrong.
that part of the frontend hasn't been touched in months. I showed him on the browser how the response didn't contain json, headers where correct, etc etc, he told me he didn't trust that(the browser network tab) and that in postman it works, and I should debug it... fuck me.. I went through his java code(which is not my strong fort) for like 3 hours to show him that he in fact was being a complete asshole, if only I could just ignore him and told him to fuck off but no, since I'm the only frontend in my team and frontend apparently is for idiots then I must be wrong and since the team lead doesn't hear anything I have to say yeah. Fuck me3
Fuck this shitty day seriously. So I'm the only frontend on my team and our team lead knows some frontend from 6 years ago or something I guess and doesn't really understand that modern frontend is fucking complicated.
So now he decided that we are going to use some shitty protocol that is not json to communicate between frontend and backend just so they don't have to build a stupid controller and a simple API on fucking shit ass Java.
I told him it's a bad decision that brings no benefit since it has no easy integration with any popular frontend library, we are locking ourselves up to this solution so new people that come in are going to need to learn this shit just so they can communicate to the backend, we have absolutely no need to do this I'm just working on simple CRUDS anyway and the only thing this will bring Is pain in the frontend.
He just ignored me and say no no it's going to be easy so let's just do this. Bitch I was hired because I know my shit, if you're going to make a big decision like this just because you don't want to write a fucking simple API and some swagger documentation you can fucking burn in hell and don't deserve your position.
This kind of issues just perpetuate the eternal problem of frontend vs backend instead of just working as a team. Why do backenders think they're smarter than anyone that does frontend or that frontend is worthless? I don't go and tell them how to build their microservices or anything like that since I assume they know what they're doing and I respect their work, why can't I get the same? What is this fucking shit, why do I have to suffer because of this guy? Why can't we find a middle ground.
While we are here, also fuck monorepos and companies trying to copy google or Facebook just because without actually thinking of solving a problen16
So.. real question, how the fuck do we unionize as IT? Software development, sysadmins, etc... I really think there is a need to stop managers expecting us to handle all of the constant stress, constant learning at home and constant overtimes to meet stupid deadlines so the boss can buy a new Porsche? I've been thinking about this for a while already, anyone has any ideas?10
Get a bug reported in code, was a one line solution that I already had in mind to update.
- so, how long will it take?
- ummm it is quite complicated I guess around a week1
Other really autistic Dev: hey how does this work?
Me: *stop what I'm doing and go to his side* well I'm not entirely sure since I didn't write any of this but I believe it must be... Proceed to try and explain the code
Other Dev: *uses his hands in a shut up motion and raises it's voice* NO, I ASKED HOW DOES THIS WORK?!?!
Me: ok I don't know I'm just trying to help
Other Dev: literally repeats the same thing as before but even louder.
Me: get extremely annoyed and tell him wait man you really are disrespecting me Im just trying to help
Other Dev: no I'm not disrespecting you
Me: *internally screaming* ok... I'll go and do my work any other questions you have put them on slack
How the fuck can people communicate like this?11
AWS and serverless is the future right?
Lambda functions are easy right?
I mean yeah it sounds easy enough to deploy a function and see it run wow, magic, but then in reality you need a lot of stuff:
Maybe 3rd party libraries
AWS configuration hell
Terraform or some shit to make it work
Integrate with other AWS services
Documentation sucks, mocking aws services locally also sucks, you have to write a billion different configuration before you can even begin to implement code.
Fuck my life4
