Question for sysadmins:
I'm setting up a physical server for hosting my website(s) at my home. Do you recommend putting SSH service behind a VPN (essentially the SSH server would listen on 192.168.1.0/24)?5
Oh look, MicroShaft is shoving some more spyware down our throats. I did not see it coming.
What the actual fuck? Why is an app in the "Apps under 25MB" category 30MB large? What are you doing, Google!?8
And no, I am not an Apple fan (I made this challenge for my friend)11
What the actual fuck!?
> Spends 3 days solving a bug (project using Keras for AI, ML & shit (and the project is somewhat blockchain related))
> Realices that the bug is in the Tensorflow library, no easy fix available
> Switches the backend to Theano instead of Tensorflow
> Keras still uses Tensorflow for the backend
> To lazy to DDG that, decides to patch the Keras library to force the use of Theano backend
> Keras now uses Theano backend
> "Tensor not part of the graph error"
> Reinstalls all libraries
> Project starts
> But... When running, it starts spitting kernel errors all over the place
> Deletes the virtualenv environment
> Creates new environment, reinstalls all necessary libraries
> Runs the code
> "Tensor not part of the graph error" again
> Opens DDG, searches "how 2 comm1t su1c1d3 pa1nle55 3d1t1on"
> No results
> Cries in the corner and goes to sleep
I hate this fucking shit so much...1
I am reinstalling my OS again, so here is the question: Which DE/WM environment do you guys recommend (I'd like something beautiful and stable)?9
I am planning to get a server (for mail, filesharing etc.). What do you guys recommend: going with NextCloud or setting up everything from scratch (FTP server, iRedMail etc.)2
Guys I have just realized (too late tho)... @Alice is right, and she was right all the time.
Pink is the way to go.
Think pink, my fellow ranters.31
Can someone tell me how long does the shipping of the stickers take?
I've been waiting for 2.5 months now...4
Why the fuck are you phoning home to old AD domain, even after I unregistered the OS from it and deleted all software and user accounts on the machine?
Next level spyware, I see
Fuck it, I am going to block all the traffic I can't find a legitimate purpose for.1
Just got a phone call from my grandmother, she is buying a new PC, and wants me to install operating system on it.
I suggest Linux, but she answers: "Nah, I want Windows, because it has solarite on it"
(side note: solarite is shipped with Windows XP)
I am not installing this shit on the box, hopefully she won't notice she is running Arch.6
Blockchain is a programming language similar to Scratch. You know, drag&dropping blocks together.

I got an offer today... 50€/month for setting up a Minecraft server (meant for maximum of 20 players at the same time) and taking care of the hosting.
A suitable VPS costs 10$/month at Vultr.
I really don't know, should I tell them about it or should I just grab the money?12

She: Hey, why do you prefer vim over nano?
Guys, I think I am in love 🤗22
Not sure if this is a dumb or genius way to debug 🤣... Nevertheless, I find it awesome!

Update on my previous rant (https://devrant.com/rants/1340549), I am training a neural network that will (hopefully) recreate posts from devRant as closely as possible. I don't know how well it will perform, but I hope for the best! 🤗7
My fellow devRanters, I am bored and I need a project to work on. Do you have any ideas? (machine learning preferred, but anything goes)6
A few months ago, me and my friend (web developer, just switched from Windows to Linux) got bored so we started to write "games" for each other (coin flip, rock paper scissors etc.). After a while, he wrote all casino games and wanted me to try and play it on his laptop. So I did, and it was quite entertaining , until I ran his script "roulette.sh". Needless to say, he learned his lesson about copy-pasting code from the internet.4
Today I was looking for a new laptop online (my old one broke and it was more than 6 years old) when I came across this... Dual disk, 8 GB ram, dedicated graphics card, i7 processor. Everything looks nice, until I find out that "dual disk" is actually a 1TB HDD and 8GB SSD...
Seriously? Why do they even include 8GB SSD (actually, did they mean SD)? I can put a bare half of VS2017 on it... I am disappointed, they spend literally 3 additional dollars to make it "dual disk".6
*me chatting with a non-dev friend, he wants to understand how neural networks work*
Me: a neural network typically has an input layer, hidden layer(s) and an output layer. Each layer has one or more neurons.
(I know, there are also other types, like LSTM & shit)
Him: Yeah, but where do you get the neurons from? Do you actually kill animals to get them?
I hate my IT teacher... I signed up for a "general IT course and web designing". Thought I will actually learn something new.
Then, the teacher tried to convince me that "RGB was a german guy that invented the RGB color system - hence its name".
Also, he was telling us that "CSS3 is a bad clone of real CSS" and all sorts of similar BS.
I am seriously asking myself who gave this idiot a job? I am speechless, I think I'll just drop out.19
Finally finished writing custom CMS for the customer (really proud of it, it was a *very* complex project). The boss calls me and stars yelling at me that the CMS doesn't work. Ask her for technical information and find out that they are using IE6.
(╯° □°） ╯︵ ┻━┻
Told her that the only thing you can use IE for is to download FF/chrome.11
