This is an old friend of mine, who recently joined the company I work with, 6 months back. And this is what he pinged me with yesterday.
This should be considered harassment at workplace, and trigger social, psychological, emotional, physical and all other sort of distancing.8
Curse the bastards that sneeze in public without covering their mouth. Your sad pathetic life without any contributions to the society has no value, but others' have, you dumb, gross bag of germs!
All others trying to justify, CURSE YOU TOO!!!3
This February, I posted a !rant here ( https://devrant.com/rants/1999689/... ) about getting a NLP internship with the help of the community.
In the past few months, I have gone up, and now I have a job offer from a small organisation (StrataVAR) as their Python dev.
I received the offer letter today. Since I am in the third year of graduation, then want me to work parallel to the university classes, they pay way above Indian freshers' average, and they have put me in a team that works on things I like.
It would not have been this way without the help and support of the communities I'm a part of, such as DevRant and StackOverflow (obviously). I just wanted to thank all who cared and helped. It means a lot.8
Last October, I was feeling really lost as a student. I posted a rant here (https://devrant.com/rants/1812123/...) as I had no one to talk to. I got a little support, but the advice I got really meant a lot to me.
I buckled up, did some learning and a small project, and today I am the NLP intern at an Organization that has really reputed clients.
Thank you devrant. Thanks everyone.
"This MONDAY, you can have a day to yourself." (as the university is hosting something all day long)
> Finally can start this. Yayy!
(THE Gang of Four)3
I am a student of Computer Science Engineering (Bachelor of Technology). I am 3 years into this 4-year course. I am strong in Data structures and Algorithms, and passionate to add more stuff to this list.
I am really done with this University coursework, and want to explore more (specifically, want to do something that is practical, and matters). I, obviously cannot leave the Uni, but I want to make my time at home more productive. Not just to me, but everyone.
1. I don't know where to start.
2. I teach myself everything, and hence, there is much difference between what I know and what people need, and I'm kind of scared of ruining/wasting other's time.
If there is someone out here who has the time out of his/her busy schedule to guide and set me on a path, please do help me. It's getting weird in my head.
Things I have done before:
* Developed a fullstack website for Indian Railways (going live in May 2019) [used Python for back end]
I have a sincere need from within to do this, and I am going to learn whatever more I need to, in order to fulfill your requirements. Please just show me WHAT and from WHERE.
Kindly do get back.3
Got rebuked by the Java teacher today at the University for using proper long names for variables in the code. She though I was just wasting time being lazy in the lab. "If something can be achieved by a single character, why type that long variable again and again?". *Everyone in class laughs*
Then, there was an error in my code [turned out to be long long int in Java is weird], and I had no clue what was going wrong [I'm a week old in Java]. So, I had initially called her to help. She made me change all private methods and attributes to public. When asked "why?", got trolled again.
Now, I know it's okay, and not that I really care about what my classmates think of me, but getting this kind of treatment really sucks. And if this is how future software developers are crafted today, maintainability is surely going to be an issue tomorrow.
Maybe staying in this stupid country was my worst career choice. I should have tried harder and gone abroad.12
God, I don't know whether I believe in you or not, but please kill all those people who play loud music in public.
So, I was travelling by a train two days ago. Halfway down the 15 hr journey, the guy next to me took out his laptop and started watching a movie, on speakers, in full volume. It naturally irritated me a lot, and I requested him to use head/earphones, to which he replied that he forgot his one back home. I told him to keep the volume down to which he got personal and put the volume down (maybe to 95%). Since I hate human interaction, I had to plug in my own earphones to keep his bitchy noise away.
The same thing happened today on the bus, the only two differences being:
• mobile phone instead of laptop
• said he doesn't own headphones
• claimed he could do whatever he wanted as it was not illegal
Now, I wished he fell of the bus and died, but the world ain't fair, so he still lives.14
At a "guided internship".
Task: Develop a complete web application form
Was assigned to a team of 7 where all are "Frontend Developers" who have never heard terms like "bootstrap" or "mobile-first web pages".
That aside, all are seniors in age and qualifications, hence me telling them something to do is "ordering them around". And if I tell them to leave things to me, they be like "No, we wanna contribute and do the Frontend, as these things don't matter, inline css just works fine". 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Why Lord? Just why?4
So, here I am at a guided internship programme, hosted by Indian Railways.
They told us to report at the Personnel Office by 10:00 AM. When I reached there, they told us the venue has been changed (to a place 1km away, with no transportation) and the official "forgot" to inform the 500+ candidates.
Yet, we moved to the said Hall, and am waiting for 1 hour (10:59 AM here), watching :
1. The stupid technician trying to align the projector
2. The stupid presenter trying to copy something and failing, as his pen drive gets disconnected halfway the process.
3. The VIPs having snacks and coffee on-stage while we the students wait here looking at those dumb assholes.
How am I supposed to respect them tomorrow at work?12
So, you have some coffee, make up your mind, and sit down to begin the project you need to submit the next day.
You fire up the machine and bam! Windows takes it's April update - "Do not turn off your PC", and a fucking rotation of evil dots on the screen for eternity.
And it goes on and on, on and on, till you have lost all mood for work.3
I code, watch Big Bang Theory, sip coffee, and code again. I never leave the doorsteps except for my classes. Some say my life is sad.
Is it? Anyone out there like this?20
