Why are we still having degree vs autodidact arguments/debates?
It's fucking 2018, who gives a flying fuck how you learn?
Stop giving a shit about how people learn and give a shit about their abilities and skills.
I'm tired of people from both sides (people with degrees and autodidacts) acting like they're better than the other. Stop being arrogant cunts.
Some people have the self control and motivation to teach themselves.
Congratulations! That's fucking awesome.
Others don't and could use a structured environment like University to motivate and encourage them.
Hey it happens. At least you're trying.
My god. Just stop with this shit already. It's annoying and unnecessary.
If you made it this far, how's your week been going?26 -
I am a scientist. A computer scientist.
I am an engineer. A software engineer.
My lack of a formal college degree does not negate these facts.
It does, however, contribute to the chip on my shoulder.2 -
Actually not a rant, I just want to share my happiness with you guys. Finally I broke out of a startup, and got accepted to an international big company. Cannot wait for the things I’ll learn there, it’s so exciting! (Yep, this is a very big milestone for me as an autodidact programmer.)
Any advice you can give to me? What was your biggest achievement so far in your carreer?6 -
Somebody working in Czech Republic, Prague can estimate how the job situation for a German autodidact backend developer would be? Looking for an opportunity in a new environment.

from the students point of view: my it-security module last semester which had nothing new for me because i was thrown into an internship with no work prepared and had to teach myself for the whole semester in it-security which has shown me that said path was the right one for me :)
