OFFICE 365 IS FUCKIN DOGSHIT, I CAN’T EVEN LOGIN TO FUCKING OUTLOOK BECAUSE MS WAY OF GIVING ME THE 2FA WAS SO VAGUE AND RANDOM
I FUCKING HATE MS TEAMS
I FUCKING HATE AZURE DEVOPS
I FUCKING HATE MSSQL
I FUCKING MS6 -
I’m fucking done….
I don’t even know what to tell.
I’m a CTO in a startu. We have pretty good traction, my salary is about average senior dev salary (plus 10%).
I’m good financially.
But I have no more pleasure in work. Like at all.
“This API call performance is bad”
Yeah I know, maybe you shpuldn’t try to call it for 1000 objects at the time ?
“We need to reduce Azure cost”
Yeah I know, but are you ready to live with performances downgrade it will generate ?
“I don’t understand on what thing you worked past week, where is a devops card ?
Fuck you, I’m in extenuating fire mode, I don’t have time for a fucking devops card
“We should migrate whole stack to modern technology, like JavaScript”
Thank you for your imput, Blazor WAS created to avoid JabaScript
“The client has only 1.000.000 records and API doesn’t return them all”
Use fucking paging moron. And BTW, I’m adding “number of authorized requests” shortly.
I can go on and on and on for hours. But the idea is : I completely lost the will or motivation to do anything. I’m considering just to quit and go back to be Junior dev for a random company.9 -
A bit of backstory...
I have been the sole dev at my organization for awhile now (other two left for other jobs), so I have been maintaing and writing new code to support the business.
Our company was recently acquired by a larger entity and it has been very strange so far.
1. It has taken 5 weeks to acquire local admin rights on my own machine (I work remote) as well as a visual studio license.
2. We have known for a few weeks now we are getting a jr dev who will need the SAME procedures done on his machine/account and it has been two weeks now and nothing has been done. (Tickets have been put it - the issues have been escalated etc etc)
3. All of our code from our old company is in Azure Devops (which is connected to Azure AD) for some reason I haven't been able to add an external account (for my new account and org) to move the code elsewhere. I don't have the authority (I don't think) to place all of our code in a new location (GitHub,GitLab, self hosted solutions, etc)
4. All of our production VMs are billed through our old org located in Azure, so eventually that bill will stop being paid since we transitioned - I've brought this up to my manager (more non technical) who wasn't terribly worried about it.
5. I'm feeling slightly unfulfilled in this position. Earlier in my time here it was new and exciting, but there isn't much direction, not many goals, or interesting problems to solve.
Just wanted to express some issues that had been going on. Feel free to add ant feedback of suggestions 😄3 -
Seriously? Microsoft does not support ed25519 SSH keys in neither Azure DevOps nor the actual Azure Virtual Machines? Like seriously? No there has to be a joke. There just ain't no way
It has been in OpenSSH since 2013.
2013.
We're in 2023, if you've forgotten.
10 years ago, OpenSSH implemented this standard.
Did you know what they tell you when you enter your valid Ed25519 SSH key into their system?
Did you know they tell you that "Your SSH key is invalid"?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN INVALID???!?! IT WORKS EVERYWHERE ELSE JUST FINE!!! YOU'RE THE ONE THAT HAS NO FUCKING BRAINS!!!
Composure.
I am calm, I am calm.
I have always. Been. CALM!
There is no one more calm than me....
I guess RSA it is then.
A second SSH key, just for Microsoft.5 -
I no longer work for a startup company. On Monday I’ll start work for a real company, one that values project managers and their infrastructure. As a DevOps engineer, I value the IT resources that power my old companies SaaS platform. My old position is not being back filled and they’re hiring a full time dev instead of and Ops engineer. They have chosen to proceed with zero employees who know Azure or the platform their own software runs on.
Word to the wise when choosing to work for a startup. Ask these questions:
- Do they have a dedicated product manager/owner , who isn’t also the CFO?
- Do they value infrastructure and their IT resources ?
- Do they have decent powered laptops to work with?
- Do they have too much technical debt because they’re always building new features ?
- Do they work 18 hour days because they set poor work/life boundaries ?
- Who handles Support tickets , and what’s a typical support issue like?
- Do they have a branching and merging strategy? Don’t accept “we’re too small” as an answer! It’s a trap that they don’t want one.1 -
Devops (By Azure) is so stupid.... (I won';t even start of YAML, it will be a 10pages rant).
me : Ok I have 5 projects, each has it's own Azure conexxion for deploy.
Me : Can I do just ONE shared connexion ?
Devops : Yes. You need to click 150 buttons and it's done !
Me : Ok. /* doing actions */
Me : Ok ready !
Me : Project 1 do your release pipeline !
project 1 : Sure, just wait 5 minutes.
5 minutes later
Project 1 : All good.
Me :Ok now sharing test ! Project 2 : do your pipeline !Project 2 : Sure ! It's strated !
Me : Ok I'll go take a beer
... 1 hour later..
Me : project 2 ? PROJECT 2??!!!
Me : fine... going into logs.
Message : You must accept the shared conexion from Project 1 before pipeline can run
Me : WTF ? I literally just SHARED it to project 2,3,4,5 !!!
Why that idiot check ?!
One thing is sure, I hate devops more than I hate JavaScript.5 -
Disclaimer: I hold no grudges or prejudices toward [CENSORED] company. I love the concept of the business model and the perks they pay their employees. Unfortunately, the company is very petty, and negligence is the core of the management. I got into an interview for the position, of Senior Software Engineer, and the interview wouldn't take place if wasn't for me to follow up with the person in charge countless times a day. The Vice President of Engineering was the most confused person ever encountered. Instead of asking challenging questions that plausibly could explain and portray how well I can manage a team, the methodology of working with various technology, and my problem-solving skills. They asked me questions that possibly indicated they don't even know what they need or questions that can easily get from a Google Search. I was given 40 hours to build a demo application whereby I had to send them a copy of the source code and the binary file. The person who contacted me don't even bother with what I told her that it is not a good practice to place the binary in cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc) and I request extra time to complete the demo application. Since I got the requirement to hand them the repository of the codebase, it is common practice to place the binary in the release section in the Git Platform (Jire, Azure DevOps, Github, Gitlab, etc). Which he surprisingly doesn't know what that is. There's the API key I place locally in .env hidden from the codebase (it's not good practice to place credentials in the codebase), I got a request that not only subscript to an API is necessary but I have to place them in the codebase. I succeed to pass the source code on time with the quality of 40 hours, I told him that I could have done it better, clearer and cleaner if I was given more grace of time. (Because they are not the only company asking me to write a demo application prior to the assessment. Extra grace was I needed)
So long story short, I asked him how is it working in a [CENSORED] company during my turn to ask questions. I got told that the "environment is friendly, diverse". But with utmost curiosity, I contacted several former employees (Software Engineer) on LinkedIn, and I got told that the company has high turnover, despises diversity the nepotism is intense. Most of the favours are done based on how well you create an illusion of you working for them and being close to the upper management. I request shreds of evidence from those former employees to substantiate what they told me. Seeing the pieces of evidence of how they manage the projects, their method of communication, and how biased the upper management actually is led me to withdraw from continuing my application. Honestly, I wouldn't want to work for a company where the majority can't communicate. -
CI CD pipelines in my company... Having CICD suppose to help development... Now we have countless templates and tools (github actions, circle ci, agro, aws beanstalk, azure pipelines, serverless, terraforms, cloud formation, helm charts, ECR, Vault... and few more).
Total chaos, doing simple CICD for 1 api and 1 lambda took 3 days so far, and will take bit more.
On top of that, no one have idea which part of scripts are doing what exactly, as responsibilities are in different tools (each tool have different config files).
Does deployment have to be so complex? Or is it that my company DevOps team makes it so unnecessary complicated?4 -
I actually found a use for Outlook's scummy default behaviour to open links in Edge and not the default browser.
On my company laptop I mainly use Librewolf because it allows installing plug-ins despite group policy. I only use Edge for Azure DevOps and company portals because MS SSO doesn't work with Librewolf for some reason.
Because Outlook disregards the OS settings and uses Edge by default, MS software forms a sort of bubble, and I can freely set Librewolf as my default browser.9 -
First day of job. Im doing jack shit. They just make me watch udemy courses of Azure and linux shell and bash scripting all for devops purposes so they can pay a microsoft certificate for me to pass and get certified and they pay for udemy courses. Im basically getting paid to watch courses on the job10

Microsoft :
"YOLO All Devops pipeline are now .net 8"
Me, lunching PROD release : "Whatever, I don't use any advanced shit"
Pipeline : "Can't connect to your nuget soure (private) : 401"
Me : What ? You just connected to it in prevous step in pipeline !
Azure : Yah, but prev st ep was using different syntax so it worked
Me : Ok, here you go, same syntax
Azure : Still nop.
Me : WHY ?!!!
Azure : I won't tell you. 401 !!
Me : Fuck you, I 'll rewrite this step from scrath !
30 mins later
Azure : Naaaan, stil 401.
Me : HOW ?!!! You literally use this nuget feed in 2 prev steps with no issues.
Azure : Fuck you
Me : fuck you too.
15 mins later
me to me... Hmm, I've already restored all packages. They "should" stay where they are..
Me : Take that azure : Ignore restoring for this step"
Azure : Oh yeah, that works ! All compiled !
WTF ?!!!! And why they release cha ges without even sending a mail. because fuck us apparently.
God I hate devops.... -

What is your experience with Azure and Azure DevOps?
I got a decent job offer but they are microsoft die-hards and use everything from M$.
Is it usable or is it making you angry?11 -
Way back no full stack. Now theres full stack and companies expect us also to be full stack + DevOps God that knows Azure, AWS, Jenkins, Docker, Ansible , puppet etc.
They want to save money and hire a one man IT department.
Full stack web and mobile developer with DevOps God skills.
Frontend = Angular React
Backend = Java Python
DB = NoSQL, MySQL, Firebase, Postgres6 -
serious question: in what FUCKING case would i need to use DevOps engineering and custom backend custom frontend AWS azure gcp cloud providers etc if all that bullshit can be avoided and the same performant software can be crafted in 1 single framework -- nextjs?????
all of that bullshit looks like WAY overengineered, marketing-bloated BULLSHIT so bozos can buy more yachts off ur fucking dumbass cloud provider usage.
how is nextjs so powerful that u dont need any of those shits?
beyond me
the only time i see all of this overengineered shit makes sense is if u work on a large corporation software such as bank
then sure.
but chances are if u freelance or build ur own side project
ur NOT gonna fucking need to overengineer all of that cowshit
i literally had to take a step back for several weeks to unbrainwash myself by jeff bozos megacorp
and realize all these megacorps lure u into bullshit
keep it fucking simple you fucking fags and stop feeding the money hungry corps
u dont need a fucking gigazillion complexity software5 -
Hey ya'll, I was wondering if you could give me a career advice. I'm a front end dev with about 3 yrs of experience, and would like to do more cloud architecture/devops. How would I go about it, considering that I've only used aws, gcp, and azure for my hobby/side projects? Should i get certified? Who would hire me?
I'd really appreciate any advice/tip!17 -
I spent 3 days trying to do some azure devops work. Finally resolved to contacting support and their engineers resolved my issue in literally less than 15 mins.
This is a Microsoft support appréciation post. Twice they have saved me in mins after days of fumbling around and over engineering my ass off.2 -
With the advent of everything being a service (read AWS, GCP, Azure) do you think it's time for our education curriculum to incorporate these services at a an earlier stage (say undergrad) since in the industry, this is kind of enough to make a decent living (speaking more from a devops perspective, programmers are still needed I feel)??2
-
3 weeks into getting dragged into another MS-stack project, I have already been repeatedly reminded why I decided to invest so much energy in moving my career as far away from Microsoft dependency as possible. Even something as simple as reviewing settings on Azure App Service is a hit-or-miss affair, being completely unavailable for hours at a time at least once a week. Azure Functions are consistently unavailable for at least a few minutes every day. Don't even get me started on "Azure DevOps".
Why the fuck do people still place their trust (and critical infrastructure) in the hands of Microsoft?4 -
Who the FUCK uses Oracle Cloud?!!!?? Didnt know this shit even existed. What you're so cool and special as shit that its not enough for you to use AWS AZURE AND GCP? YOU MUST USE ORACLE CLOUD TOO? GET FUCKED. NOW I HAVE TO WASTE TIME STUDYING ORACLE CLOUD SO I CAN APPLY FOR THIS SR DEVOPS ROLE14
-
I refuse to jump on the github hype train, i will continue to maintain all my public repos in azure devops.
Fight me!8 -
Cisco Anyconnect can blow me.
I go through the process of connecting to the vpn, username, password, token.
Then it has its pop up "respond to the banner to connect" and I click accept . . . and it does nothing.
So I go through the process again. And this time it says connected
But now I still can't connect to any of my companies sharepoint, SQL servers, Azure Devops, JIRA, etc
And the only solution to that is a reboot.
And this happens swear to god at least every other day.
Like good lord, if I put in my credentials and they pass authentication/authorization, let me do my goddamn work.4 -
Devs : use azure devops becuse our product is on azure
Managers: but we only know how to use jira
Architect, okay then pay us for migration to bamboo and bitbucket so we dont have to use dual systems.
Management : whatever you want do it for free4 -
We should begin refusing to work for companies who enforce using MS products. Need to buy actual desktop office license because their software doesn't accept web-edited elements? Pass.
Seeing a "are you still there" message in MS teams, or figuring out what other browser to use since you already have several MS accounts? Pass.
Azure devops and no way to expand the code during review?
Yup, pass!
Enough of this BS. People who opt for using MS software don't care about their users nor contractors' experience. We shouldn't care about those people.24 -
Finally successfully set up continuous deployment on a personal project. Ever, really. And on one of my few open source applications. Destiny Clan Manager... it uses the Bungie API to help you manage your clan on Destiny 2. Neat little weekend project. Made some changes today, and thought... why not. It's all using Azure.
If you're interested: https://github.com/demortes/DCM2 -
I joined in 2011 when there were 3% architects/technologists. Even those were PMP certified.
Now we have 80% archs/techs/coders/devops/cyber, with aws/azure/java/db/cyber certs and no PMP.
Even now managers go off-site for a week to some exotic location and come back to present the architecture.1 -
Azure Devops Task Groups are pretty cool.
They also keep track of every edit, and they let you compare different versions of the same task group. Nice!
But why THE FUCK there's not a fucking "RESTORE REVISION" button?!
Geez -
I've started using azure devops as a project management thing for personal stuff.
This means
1) I've got enough stuff I'm trying to keep track of to warrant an issue tracking system for personal purposes
2) and have worked out that, of all the shit project management options out there, azure is the least shit for my uses.9 -
So trunk-based is the new approach everyone is using, because it is so cool.
I used gitflow for the last projects with azure devops, set up the pipelines like tipically in 1 week if I had other things to do with the help of the portal clicking through things. PR-s triggered pipelines, everything worked cool.
But then trunk-based got momentum, so I worked with this client where 2 developers worked for !!!3 months!!! to setup trunk-based pipeline. It was not my money, so I did not say a thing. They were using infrastructure as code.
I am all in for automation, but seriously? Then again, another project where a DevOps team took 1 dev-month to setup the pipeline + meetings. And what do you get in the end? So that the same image goes on all environments? Like how many releases do you have for prod in a year. Lets say 24. 24 x 5 minutes of manual work for the release, that is 2 hours. So my question is why would you spend 2 hours of manual work while you can automate it merely in a month? Everyone loves to code, but using the ui on the DevOps portal saves you so much time. I don't get this. Maybe I am getting old :D4 -

DevOps:
Is it worth the time and money to get AWS/GCP/Azure Certified? Other than adding a line to your resume...1 -
Thinking to start smoking 🚬
Never tried it once in 26 years not even a sip even refused temptations from school friends
Now by starting a job, i have no security, ironically. I feel like i stepped at the leap of a bottomless pit and tomorrow i jump into it and fall... and fall....and fall..... No end.
I have no idea how to use ansible and rexify.org and thats what I'll need to use. I have no idea how to do devops with Azure, and thats what ill do. I only build devops with terraform on Aws.
The unknown of 9-5 is frightening me more than starting a business. Paradoxically, i think it would come as a relief to get fired within the first week from failing to complete literally everything
On top of that my blonde gf disappeared yesterday for 3-4 hours. No texts no phone calls. Called for 2 times no answer. Called 3rd time and got a voice message the phone was shut down. 3-4 hours later she said she was with mom at shopping and didnt have internet
I also caught her texting some random guy on instagram. They both have vanish mode enabled (texts delete themselves as soon as you leave the conversation). Confronted her today. She wont tell me the truth. Likes his pics on ig. Keeps lying. On a question "why do you have vanish mode enabled with him?" her answer is "well i guess married men always use vanish mode"
Im tired
Too much shit unraveling. The opening of 2024 already doesnt look good
Why do good people die in accidents or diseases but i dont and i live? Shits unfair. Why doesnt nature/God fucking kill me? I beg to die. I hope to die. I pray for something to kill me. It would come as such a relief.
This life is meaningless and empty to me. typeof(life) yields a void. I dont value it. Its shit. Whether succeed or fail its meaningless. Nihilism was right
I am literally a walking dead. Physically moving but spiritually dead. Mentally lost. I am the captain of a ship in the middle of the ocean who no longer knows where the ship is going
Why cant i just get cancer or something. Can cigarettes help me get it? Cause I'll start consuming that shit right away to speedrun that process
End it17 -
The moment, when your untouched pipelines don't work. You investigate due to capacity. No Standard_D2 machines. Ok take D3, same error. D4?!?!?! Same Error. Some strange SKU... all fine.
This is the cloud with corona.3 -
Azure DevOps Bash script task hangs for no reason. This will be in my dreams tonight.
(That and I spilled water all over my trousers in the office today)
