I used to think I was the kind of programmer that was good with people. That somehow I was special because I could get on with colleagues and make clients happy.

It's not this difficult. 100% going to help you if you ask - to me, at least, there's no such thing as a stupid question (seriously, I'll answer the most inane questions 100 times over if I need to). I am here late on a freaking Friday night before a holiday weekend doing some stupid conversion for a company. They have to have it done before Monday ( the holiday) as they plan to go live then.

Did I mention that they asked for this 2 days ago? I had to write the entire system to upload their batch of accounts into our system and return to them the corresponding new accounts. In 2 STUPID DAYS! Not to mention nobody was here to code review it today, so I had to run over it with one of the it guys before merging it myself.

Good thing I didn’t have a conference tonight that I paid money to go to. Oh wait, I do. Luckily it only started 2 hours ago so I might just make the final keynote, if I am lucky.

Although it’s not really a project I will be done with my apprenticeship in july this year and I already have a nice job offer... this feels like a success

Perhaps one of the most important things I will ever learn in life is how powerful regularity is. Read up on a topic once? Understand nothing? Read more random shit on it. Keep reading. And then stare in awe as things fall into place.

I'm writing this out not because people don't know this. Almost everyone knows this. But it's nice to be reminded of it. It's nice to be reminded that learning new things and honing bew skills is never easy. It's nice to be reminded that there's great knowledge and skills waiting to be learned.

This is not meant as motivation so much as it is meant as a reminder. Our colleagues may be garbage. Our clients may be garbage. Our bosses, the interns, the new dev, and almost certainly ourselves, are almost always garbage.

But if you've learned 1-2 new things today, the day wasn't garbage.

Had a client whom was using the staging system on my server as cdn, remote computing, etc... because his prod server was a cheap vhost while the vm was a beast compared to it. I shut it down without telling. I just got a call that his site is now slow a f and full of errors.

I kindly told him that there was a recent security breach called dirty cow. Then I told him that I shut the vm down because it would mean security risk for him since there are no patches available yet and only Power on again with there was work for me to do.

i did the php tutorial on sololearn of boredom and for fun (and maybe in hope for some new insights). it was a fun hour. and fewer surprises as expected. nice to be classified as advanced 🙂

I want to create an Dual Boot on my PC with Windows which should be for gaming and stuff and Ubuntu which should be for Development.

But I can't decide which Desktop I will take but, I have Marked two as very nice: Mint and KDE Plasma.

Actually, a GUI tool would be nice, something like xkill that sets the nice value of the owner of the clicked window to a really low value, for when you just want to get something done quickly.

One thing I learned over my few work years is:

1.Never do anything for free.

2.Be irreplaceable however you can.

3.Most managers ain't shit so don't play nice and end up getting stomped.

- Remote working as necessary
- Working in a laptop (ideal but not necessary)
- developing and designing from scratch and few maintenance
- pleasant offices
- getting involved in new techs once in a while
- engaging industry. Telecom / medical / automotion would be nice

Politely suggested the wife should take the car today to run errands and I'd take public transport to work today.

Hopefully the only regret I'll make today.

I am not a fan of programs that want to store their libraries in your home directory. It's alright if they store it in a hidden folder at least. I like my home directory to be nice and clean~~

Who designed keyboards? It would be so much easier to learn typing with 10 fingers if it would be symmetrical, like, have the keys be on top of each other like the numpad, the numpad looks nice, feels nice and it's easy to remember, the rest isn't clearly on top of each other and the indentation isn't the same

A mind computer interface that acts like an extension of my psyche. Allows information access, tool access, and gets rid of mundane interfaces like keyboard and mouse.

I would like this interface to be non-intrusive with the ability to remove. I would hate for it to mess with my driving. In that case it would be nice if it overlay-ed data for a hud while driving. Like just having the speed be an overlay would be nice.

I wonder if such an interface would make our already lazy mental skills even lazier? Or would it invigorate our learning?
