Today is my last day at this job.
Can't tell you how happy I am to be leaving this place in about 7 hours.
Starting my new job in January, so I get 4 weeks of nice vacation/ family time.8 -

I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to all the pressure at work, and my boss sat me down one day and said "Don't take it so personally, it's only work".

When I managed to minimize the processing time of the project I'm currently handling. It went down from 30min-1hr to 7min-15mins. The project owner was so happy, said it made his life easier. I was told I did a good job by my manager.
I feel like a real dev then and there. So whenever I'm having a bad day, feeling insecure, I try to remember that day when I was able to do something right. :) -

Mondays - the day everyone hates and the day that I hated.
But I made changes to my routine on mondays. Instead of trying to maximize my time in the bed - I go up before 5 AM and drive to the office. Spend a hour in the gym (I really need it), eat breakfast and have a couple of hours for myself in the office.
I manage to get more things done during this time, because people are not bothering me :)

Leave work with two working monitors at my desk, come back the next day to one monitor and a missing HDMI cable. Find out marketing took it for a presentation, don't get it back for three weeks. Finally get it back for a day, become super happy to finally have both monitors again. Come back the next day and PM has stolen my HDMI again, no extra HDMI cables in entire office. Apparently HDMI cables are valued like gold around these parts.10

2: i solved a task using newly introduced tech and it works. Which has lots of implications on future work, a lot faster too. Also everyone is happy and supportive.
3: i felt good at the progress made with my kinesitherapy, my spine is starting to cooperate again.
Overall a good day.

Day #01 of my brother's switch to Linux:
So far so good, he's really happy with the Linux (surprisingly). The Witcher 3, Payday 2, Minecraft run flawlessly, although I had to make some small configurations in disk mounting, because of the fact that the games disk is still in NTFS file system4 -
As a programmer you know it's going to be a glorious day when you have been getting an error for two days straight and on the third day it's different.

It has been a loooong time since i have had awesome programming day like today, i've been doing earth simulator kind of game for mobile and lots of its core mechanics are starting to take shape. Still long way to go but it feels great! Days like these remind me why i started programming. I will have to deal with memory management because there will be lots of shit happening on screen not yet sure how to deal with that in corona sdk. Sorry for good feels.11

Meetings, responding to emails, handling urgent tickets, etc. If I could just get four uninterrupted hours of coding in a day, I'd be happy. But I'm basically in meetings all morning and usually have at least 1 more in the middle of the afternoon.2

Previous employer demanded I work on Christmas Day or risk being terminated. Wasn't the final straw (I was young and needed the work) but did start the slow spiral.
I'm grateful now, happy in my current job for about 9 years with plenty of career growth. -

I just finished a project which I started today.
It is a java bytecode class/method/field renamer. You can rename those things inside a jar file. It has a nice dark-themed GUI and it works great :)
I'm just happy because I couldn't find something like this on the Internet and wanted it since I started learning programming. Also I am happy because I did it in 1 Day and learned so much about the Java Bytecode!
It's using ObjectWeb ASM btw.7 -

I guess the job I’m at now? I’ve been paid for 8 months and I’ve produced nothing, they’re happy about it and I was given a pay rise. It has taken me months to make deployments and I feel like some days I might’ve well of had a day off. If I had a sick day I still get paid for a full day even if it was for a whole week. How did I get this job and wtf do I even do? 😂💃🏻💃🏻 <= that’s me dancing7

Finally figured out that 500.30 error.
You won't believe it, but y'all probably will... But I solved my problem by fixing literally one line of code.
This of course pissed me off because this problem persisted for an entire week, even my supervisor could not figure it out.
But I learned so much in failing to find it and making wrong assumptions along the way.
Solving a problem is sometimes just half the battle, the journey along the way counts for something.
My supervisor was super impressed too, so that made me even more happy.
Anyways onto the next problem. 🤪6 -

Had a better day with i3wm and Linux. Did a lot of futzing with config files and got it looking pretty cool. My status bar is relevant, urxvt is transparent, I'm happy with it.

Went from a c++ backend developer job to a very high paid, very little programming and mostly integration job in the finance industry (big wall st firm). I regret my decision. Money does not make you happy at the end of the day nor does it bring satisfaction. Don't make the same mistake I did. If you're happy as a developer, stick to it, you'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Pluralsight is so infuriating. First of all my trial lapsed (classiccc move) so I figured I would use it.
They’re content is so outdated.. it’s driving me mad. The past 3 courses have been 2+ years out of date.. and I get it, it’s a lot of work to maintain a course but could you not at least provide links or new annotations?
And I’m not talking a couple of package version updates where things change. This guy is using Bower which to my knowledge is pretty much deprecated and references yarn. Which completely breaks the course.
My thing is, why are you charging $30/month (i think), if I have to jump through these hoops to learn??? I was doing a great job of that on my own via google and YouTube.
The one Udemy course I bought is constantly being updated with notes and annotations and boy do I appreciate that. They’re marketing and cookies are toxic but at least the content is reliable.3 -

So I'm currently working in outsourcing for a Dutch company. On the 24th several companies close for holiday and my company (so the one that hired me!) makes their employees to go to the office when their outsourcing client closes.
This really grinds my gears (family guy reference anyone? 😂). What's the F word difference of bundling dozens of devs for a day without nothing to do instead of letting them be in their homes??
PS: I'm home that day but I was forced to take a day off...

I know when I first got into libGDX (game engine/framework/? written in Java) and tried to bodge together UI stuff like buttons myself. I was really happy when I got buttons pretty much working as intended.
Later that day I found out that Stage exists and all my (bad) work was useless. 🙃1 -

Jiff files have begun encroaching on my charmed life. I keep forgetting to search for an online converter and have done with it. I thought I'd hit upon one and I remembered to go to my search engine of choice and key in, "XXX malware." I learnt to do this years ago with my Mac, and I'm happy to say I've only slipped once or twice. You know I used to be fucked up in almost every aspect of life: academically, socially, financially etc. But I am happy I am able to fight back. After my college semester exams finished, I am so happy to enjoy such a great social life. Like I can go and hangout each and every day and night, whereas earlier I would be in my room all day and night, infact even my neighbors would question my existence. But now its so much fun to hangout, feels really great. :') -
So who else has tried codefights.com and got stuck on almostIncreasingSequence? For gods sake its only level two, but with three hundred comments from people who also cant solve it, well I finally did but it took me a day. I finally succeeded! I was so happy!3
