Dear unknown StackExchange random dude,
You don't know me, I don't know you, but, let's be honest : I came here to get answers, not to get my question fucking edited.
Regards,
Go fuck yourself25 -
These "math question" captchas are really stupid.
It's not even an image that has to be OCR-ed, it's just plaintext. Why can't these people understand a captcha is supposed to be something only a person can do? This is math. Computers are amazing at math.23 -
To be or not to be.
Whenever you are stuck with something in life, ask that question to yourself.
Because
2b || !2b
Is a Boolean expression which will always be true. So asking that question will lead you to true self.
Peace ☮️9 -
If you ask a question in a forum and figure out the answer yourself, for the love of God, please post the fricking answer.
"Never mind" is not at all helpful. Ugh. Stop being selfish peasants.2 -
Latest from my team,
One of the Dev copied code from a stackoverflow question.
Got same exception as highlighted in the question and started complaining that his code does not work.3 -

Job interview question about mainly a Java position : where do you see yourself in 5 years?
*thinks about how fast things are changing, have no idea what the web, programming will be and even where I will end up and feel like this question is a trap*
Me: in not sure.. A dev lead
- now -
After changing 4 time jobs I'm a dev lead in node js3 -
People on Stack Overflow are SUCH FUCKING ASSHOLES
"You didn't show us where you declared this unimportant array, please review this article for how to ask questions"
My question doesn't concern the array, my question concerns how the system works, all code I provided was only for clarity. Read my fucking question you arrogant asshole. You have lots of points, fine, go tell your mother, but you assume I don't know how to ask a question which you clearly did not read.10 -
Dear phone app devs,
when I start app, I want to *use* it, NOT fill in recommendations on store. Please move this question AFTER useful work in app.
Sincerely,
Angry user4 -
HR: Hi we got your application. We'd like to schedule a call. Can you fill this out to pick a time?
Me: Sure, sorry first I'd like to ask a question. You are based on the other side of the country and i'm not able to relocate. Are you open to remote workers? Your job spec didn't mention either way.
HR: GREAT question! At this moment no we are not. We need people here on site. If you'd like, we can have a call to discuss if you fill out the form.
Me: ..... take time out of my day so you can tell me "No" again? ..... i'm alright thanks13 -
Today was the first time I told a rude interviewer off. Feels pretty good. Fuckwad kept cutting me off with “Shut up and just answer my question”. Nope. Not taking that shit my good sir.17

Desperately searching stackoverflow for an answers. NOT FOUND. Posting it as a question. MARKED DUPLICATE! What kind of sorcery is this? :D5

"WHERE THE FUCK THE SHOULD I GO TO EAT?"
If you have a question in your head similar to this. Then fear not, there's a site for that xD

Holy fuck, the state of npm
Question: "How do I make a GET request in NodeJS"
Accepted answer: "Use the http library it has built in get functions, its quite simple"
I FUCKING KID YOU NOT, THE NEXT 10 ANSWERS: Use this npm library, it's super great ;)22 -
Wtf is wrong with stackoverflow I asked a question I get it’s not easy to understand it to answer
But your instead trying to fix my grammar and punctuation! Wtf! It’s 100% readable
People on stackoverflow are obnoxious dicks26 -
I really fucking loathe StackExchange. Some poor soul had the nerve (THE NERVE!) to ask a question about something they didn't understand (HOW DARE THEY!):
"What is the difference between a ping and a get request? The goal is to see if the site is up."
And par for the course over at smarmy-fucking-smug-pedant-land, in less than three hours, the question was closed: "[C]losed as not a real question... It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form.
Allow me to indulge in some pedantic, "well actually" fuckery of my own...
Well actually, that actually is a 'real' question, because it's, you know, a fucking question. There's a question mark in there and everything! The person is asking what the difference is between two different things, and we can tell it's actually two different things because the person uses two different fucking nouns. And not only is this person asking to know what the difference is between these two different things, they even give us a use-case for why they're asking the question: they're pretty sure that they think they might know there's at least two different ways to check that their website is up, they just want to know what the difference is between those two methods -- hence the two different fucking nouns. It's almost like they're trying to give us some contextual information about why they're asking so that even if there is some vagueness to their question -- which is bound to happen IF YOU KNOW YOU DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SUBJECT, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY YOU'RE FUCKING ASKING -- then a reasonable, decent, helpful person who is making a good-faith effort to be helpful can infer from that context enough information that clarifies the question enough to remove any vagueness or ambiguity and thus provide a helpful answer. AND THAT'S WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED!
And what just fucking galls me to no end... the question was answered (SUCCINTLY, INFORMATIVELY, SIMPLY, AND CORRECTLY!) and even marked as accepted in less than fifteen minutes after being asked.
And that didn't stop some smug fuck from being an asshole and closing the question because "fucking scrub noobfags need to git gud."

If MySpace was a place for friends,
then StackExchange is the place for insufferably elitist smug cunts.4 -
I just want to say this place is AWESOME! 100% better than Reddit and 1000% better than SO. Not sure how I found it....oh yeah I was googling a question on how to do something in JIRA and used the 'f' word in my query.8
-
You know what? I'm starting to think Stack Overflow has an elitist attitude problem. I post an earnest question in meta and 3 out of 4 guys ridicule the idea and are rude. Only one person seemed willing to even consider my question. The other 3 just posted rebuttals of my idea. This is a Q&A forum, not the U.S. presidential debates, damnit!13
-
when I was a kid, I got banned from stackoverflow because my question was not good enough, and from 2 low quality questions they never allowed me to post there ever again.
They're really unforgiving. Which is why I try to help n00bs on stackoverflow get that initial rep12 -
Am I the only one who looks at the answers first on stack overflow then the question when the answer does not relate to my problem?3

Random dev online: Any chance you could help me figure out how to use something the company you worked for wrote? I need to do XYZ
Me: I didn't write it but sure. Theres a doc here about the full process of doing XYZ <link>
Random dev 5 seconds later: But how do I actually do it? The link doesn't show how to do it via code.
Me: You'll find if you actually read it, that it does. Because I checked. Good day2 -
Never underestimate the power of developers on stackoverflow.
If you forget a single restriction they will find solutions that perfectly match your question but not your problem.3 -
Firefox is not a “chrome alternative”. Firefox is a better browser. Even if we completely keep the chromium privacy out of question, Firefox is still faster and Firefox devtools are still waaaay superior.13

I'm 18, asking my granddad a basic question. It was in danish, translation may not be as funny.
Me: Do you have a phone with a screen you can press?
Granddad: Yes
Few moments later...
Granddad: But i dont know if anything happens when i press it.4 -
WTF!! I want a JavaScript solution.. not jQuery!! When JavaScript mentioned in the question, why the hell people answer with jQuery solution and also same solution multiple times.15
-
post != rant;
post = "Feature Request";
@dfox
Stack Overflow is full of abuntch of downvoteing dickbuts. The devrant community is so much more accepting of new devs, why not add a question section.
Down votes would only be allowed for spammers.
One the question was solved, it would go into the devrant question archive, Searchable by everyone.
Ik you have heard this one before, but it's Just my two cents.9 -
April fools day prank idea:
1. Replace all semicolons with Greek question marks
2. Add a Gradle task that automatically fixes the semicolons, but only when run on the build servers
3. Watch as people get confused because the code builds in the server but not locally3 -
Hey junior... when I'm asking a question it's not the answer I'm looking for.... It's your thought process! Just tell me the things you will not do and we can take it from there!4
-
Holy shit, wrote bitwarden an email and I shit you not, 15 seconds later I got a reply answering my question, not via bot but an actual human, then answered that email with a much more detailled question and got an answer yet again 25 seconds later, insane. 😶4

The moment when you find exactly your problem on Stackoverflow...
...just to realize its the same question you read about a year ago when you already had the problem but since it was minor and there was no solution so you ignored it up until now.
Followed by the feeling when you see that there was not even a comment added the whole year besides it was viewed 150 times.
Followed by the feeling when you find the solution all by yourself and finally write an answer to the question.
Just to realize that this was the only question from this guy on SO and his last login was two years ago. :-~
Well at least the annoying log message is gone and I learned something new.2 -

Interviewer: can you write a code snippet to explain function overriding
Me: *gives a practical example *
Interviewer: *not satisfied*
Me: what would be a proper example for the question?
Interviewer: *writes a text book example *
Her example didn't even need inheritance in the first place. It's one of those forced examples.
Next question: a riddle. Yes, a riddle4 -
A 520MB CSV file with 29 columns and no headers.
If it's not an impertinent question, why in the name of Satan's magnificent testicles would anyone do that?
I hope their pig dies.14 -
I asked a question on StackOverflow. Everyone ignored me so I did find other way to do what I intended (it was still not an answer). So at least I fucking hoped to get another fucking tumbleweed badge!!!
So today a fuckhead, seventh viewer of my question answered it in a way that insulted my intelligence. So I got no answer and no fucking badge!!! FUCK.4 -
Using a copyrighted image on a website not knowing it was copyrighted. That was stupid and humbling. So caught up in the roots lost sight of the leaves.
Lesson learned: Assume nothing, question everything.1 -

This week I had a technical interview for a Python developer position.
They asked me Javascript questions.
Not a single Python question.

Today something amazingly incredible happened, I met a nice guy on stackoverflow, he even asked me if he could edit my question to make it better, and did not reproach me for asking a RTFM question.5

When you find a question on stackoverflow and you know the exact answer.
But you're not in the mood to explain and put details.

I hate the dumbass people that send on slack: "good morning", "good afternoon" or "how are you?" and do not say anything until I reply. If you do this FUCK YOU!! Just ask the fucking question. Now I just ignore everybody until the question is made11

I saw an article saying, What Programming Language Should I Learn First? 2017
It suggested, JavaScript!
😏 hmmm....
What do you think, yes or no?
(And no this is not personal question, just an article I was reading 😃)22 -
A sign in front of startup office:
Do not feed the developers! We keep them on a soylent diet - eating real food might make them question their life choices. -
You know what I always hated about Stack Overflow?
When a newbie asks a question and really wants to learn something they get downvoted for 'we're not your teacher. Go learn it somewhere else'
When someone else asks a question and just expects Stack Overflow to magically produce working code for him they also get downvoted for 'we're not a code generator'
When someone finally asks a 'good question' but mentions in the last line it's homework they also get downvoted for 'We won't do your homework'
They also don't tolerate fun or opinions.
I never actually participated in Stack Overflow because to me it felt that whatever I asked, it would get closed for god knows why. And when I actually answered questions, and wanted to help someone, I would get downvoted for 'don't make someone else homework' or 'don't waste your time if they're not willing to put effort in it'
I still always 'used' Stack Overflow but read-only thanks to Google.
Anyone else feels/felt the same way?7 -

Can't say I am a religious type, not really into discovering/discussing religions and comparing them either... BUT I do hope there is someplace (like hell on steroids!!) for developers who don't test their code before checking it in and/or puting it on production..
Also another question, can I plead not guilty due to insanity when killing such devs?!? O.o FUuuuuuuuu!!!!2 -
Pick his nose and well
You know what happened next..
Hey! You said what another dev did, not mandatory dev related! Exploited the question5 -
Was interviewing someone for a role, asked them a basic question in Python (before anyone gets on my case about interview coding questions, it's removing duplicates and the answer is to just cast to set, I'm just checking that they actually know Python). Perusing Stack Overflow while I wait for their answer (it's a remote call and I give them a bit of time to calmly deliberate). The exact prompt I gave them pops up as a question, the asker is registered to their profile.
Not only did they not get the job, but I downvoted the question and marked it as duplicate. Rejection and unemployment can be temporary, but StackOverflow reputation is FOREVER. -
Has anyone else noticed how hostile Stack Overflow has become? I was up at 4 am the other night (or I guess technically morning) and I was too tired to think straight so I posted a question about a syntax error I had and went to bed.
By the time I woke up I had 3 down votes and 2 comments saying how dumb this question was yet not a single answer.39 -
I just got the question why I'm moving around so much when I'm programming...
How can you NOT move around!? Let me dance, air guitar, air drum and I will perform three times better! It's my zone :-D1 -
A question for all the front-end developers of devRant. How the fuck do you get a really good color scheme for a website?
P. S. I am not a front-end dev so please simple words17 -
Not a Rant but a question..
How would you deal with a client that has a crush on you, when you're not interested at all?13 -
My little pleasure of today.
I asked a question on Stack Overflow.
It was closed with reason: "off-topic" "tip-of-the-iceberg" question.
I followed the link to the explanation of why it was closed.
There was a discussion in metaSO, about closing or not those kind of questions.
It seems somebody "won" the discussion arguing that was the right thing to do....
I DOWNVOTED HIM.
now I feel much better.3 -
Not co-worker, but class mate. Specifically, my group mate.
Boy, I could fill an entire book with the “what the fuck” moments.
Here, the prior question of his was “why is this happening?”23 -
Found an answer on Quora discouraging to learn Javascript because "it's not as important as php". It was a question about frontend development. Soooo 20002
-
So rant-ish question:
Since not much is happening around here, can ya’ll open source devRant so community can work on it? Seems like a perfect candidate for open sourcing.
The users of this app are perfect working on the app as well.14 -
I'm not sure if it's a software or ethical error that we are dealing here. Btw, this is a legit question on stack exchange network.13

// Fist Rant :S
When you go to sleep late the day before studying hard for the exam of graph theory and when you see the test equally not know how to answer any question :(1 -
Quick tip: ! means NOT. So !rant is a post which isn't a rant. !question doesn't indicate that the post is a question, but rather the opposite (and therefore there isn't really a need for that tag). You might also see something like !!rant which is the same as writing rant (that tag is also unnecessary, considering the name of the app)7

At a networking event. Tired. Not a people person, especially when tired.

Genuine question here...
Why the fuck does windows not remember the correct time or sync the correct time after having been dual booted with Linux yet the Linux install is functioning perfectly fine?5 -
not a rant
why when I meet someone for the first time and tell him I am a developer his first question is, how can I fix my slow internet connection???6 -
Fucking useless bots.
I need a bit of help in getting some documents from my University, so I go into their site and they have a WhatsApp support number. Perfect, I think to myself. So I send them a message with my question and a fucking bot answers me with a list of categories for my question, none of them matching my question. So I answer the "Other" option and it just sends me a FAQ link. Like what the actual fuck? I contacted the fucking number because I need help from a damn human, not a fucking FAQ link you useless waste of server resources.2 -
"Hi"
Yes? Stop sending Hi, Hello, in slack! FFS not even asking: how are you doing? Throw your question or whatever made you talk to me in the first place! I'm just ignoring everyone like this from now on...15 -
I hate people that sends an email with a question and when you fail to reply within their arbitrary deadline (not in the email) they email you the same question but copying your boss and your boss's boss when they could've literally just walk 20 steps to ask the same question5

This is a legit question from an exam I just took:

I've never liked Quora, but today I decided to sign up because I had an interesting question to ask, about my solution for an angular problem and why it could not be applicable.
Five minutes later 6 people followed my post.
Ten minutes later my question disappeared and nobody knows where the hell it went. WTF? My question count passed from 1 to 0, it disappeared from my profile and from the whole website. No notifies, no emails about it. What the hell happened?14 -

100 characters exist in the ASCII codec.
I'm trying to figure out the minimum amount of characters required to encode them. (= Turning each digit into a two digit char set that doesn't mach any other char set to enable me to do other things with them. i.e: A = dE)
It would simply be: x^2, where x is the number of minimum characters required.. But I don't know how to interact that with 100 to find x.11 -

Just asked a question on another stackexchange site. Funny how almost all questions and answers are being upvoted. Thats something that you are not used to experience on stackoverflow :P1

Good question. The answer? I’ve been having less and less of a social life as time goes on. It’s actually quite depressing but I’m not sure what I want. Do I want to interact with people? Do I not? Do I want friends? Do I not? I can’t tell sometimes.1

User1: You answered your question. Its because of the error.
Me: I know. And want it gone.
User1: Proposes working yet somehow horrible workaround.
Me: Yes, that works, already did that. But i want to know why it happens.
User: Your question says you want a solution and it is one.
Me: One that doesn't solve the problem.
User2: Just give up. Don't try to find a better one.

UserQ: Question how to...?

Im putting together a new stack (i do it every 8-10 months). Queue the dramatic music, its not java this time. So far i got Python Flask and maybe React but im not sure yet. Question is, what db should i use? Ill probably go for a json one, thinking about rethinkdb for now, but if anyone has a better idea, please share.16

Question: What do you guys do when you are not working? Do you have personal projects? Do you teach yourself new stuff?8
-
One little question!
If you build a website, is it necessary to make it also work on IE?
Not so many are using it and i don't see the point. Idk8 -
I need some advice, because I'm feeling like I'm getting ripped off by my company.
I'm a junior developer and this is the first company I've every worked at. I've been here for 1 1/2 year. I said in the first interview that I am proficient with a fullstack framework, for a rather niche programming language, but I don't want to do front end, because I'm not good at it and I generally don't like it.
I'm the sole coder working on a project that costs the client 100EUR/h. There are others, but they just organize the tasks I have to do. This project requires me to work a full stack of retardation server, that's a pain in the ass, not really compatible with this project and required hack after hack to be fixed. Finding bugs in this pile of shit often takes days of emailing around and asking for logs in hope something might pop up. I've had to scavage through threads saying the still bleed form the anus or have PTSD, beccause of this retarded stack. As you can imagine, I'm also responsible for all of the QA and obviously get shit for bugs. I'm supposed to remember every little detail I've done in this project at the end of the sprint, while also working on 2-3 other projects simutaniously.
I've developed some small servers with dashboard and api for apps on my own. I'm supposed to also do all of the QA so that my boss doesn't see any errors, because otherwise our clients have to be QA.
I have written a complicated chat system that is distributed across nodes. We've nearly missed a deadline of 6 days for this shit, because I've been put under preasure, because I estimated such a "large" amount of time for this.
Other things I've done include:
* Login/Registration on many projects
* Possibility to add accounts for subordinated, with a full permission system for every resource
* Live product configuration with server validation and realtime price updates
* Wallet & transaction system, dealing with purchases of said product and various other services offered on this platform
* Literally replaced the old, abandoned database framework from a project with a modern one.
I've made some mistakes during the WFH corona times, but this that doesn't mean you can put more preasure on me and pull stuff like this: https://devrant.com/rants/2498161 https://devrant.com/rants/2479761
Is all of what I'm doing and have to deal with worth the 9EUR/h salary?10 -
I sincerely want to thank Google.
I was this introverted guy with lots of questions to ask.
Whenever I try to ask question I could not. It might be - my ass liked the bench too much or gravity was different for me.
Anyway, Thanks google.2 -
People in SO be like: "I don't understand why I'm not getting any answers. All I want to do is to twist this ORM to do something it doesn't support and I haven't even explained the nature of the models and nested relationships in the question"3

This feeling when you post question to Stackowerflow but nobody replies cause the issues which you have is uncommon and not as popular as some hot frameworks, or simple setup issies.4

Question here - what do you guys think of Kotlin?
Do you also think it'll be sufficient to learn Kotlin and not java to programm for Android?
I just began the transition, it's fun playing around with it, but a friend of mine wants to learn Kotlin to learn Android programming (and not java, he only has java basics).
What's your opinion on all this?12 -
So I've been using the command "poweroff" to shut down my Linux system, tried searching only if this is safe or not, mostly people just speak of "shutdown -h now" or something like that. So my question is: Is it safe to shut down Linux using the "poweroff" command?10

Why do people not use search engines?
Like there exist so many good search engines and you still ask a question that can be answered by searching 2 minutes on the internet???
You could save yourself and others so much fucking time!!!7 -
Super selfish and targeted question:
Favourite singular VSCode extension?
Not the ones everyone has / are very common, something you have that most might not, be it because it's functionality is not very useful, because it's not very known, etc...3 -
Sending email to client (the following is a short version of it)
"
Dear Data Evaluation Team,
Here is a link with the password to the data export for the questionaire.
You will find in there 4 sections:
1. Utilization Report

3. User Responses to questionnaire
4. Summary of responses

Email from client

Thank you data team.
I see that the user responses have some ids for the questions. Can you please give me the full question text, where is it?

My response

Like really? Did you just not f*ing read the email and just jumped into the data export blindly. I wrote some fucking docs for a reason. -
I'm the guy who downvotes and flags your questions on Stack overflow, for being in poor format and incomplete background of question.

Rant portion:
Fuck me, there's not a ton of great resources for Lua. I have the book, and it's actually fucking incredible, but as soon as I have a question which I would usually Google, either it's a SO question that almost hits the mark (but absolutely does not answer my initial question) or a mailing list that DOES answer my question but holy FUCK it's difficult to read!
I 100% recommend the Lua book, though. It's remarkably helpful and covers just about every little detail of the language and it's corresponding c API, and even some of how Lua works behind the scenes.
Non-rant portion:
Finished up the first version of my library and now I'm binding it to Lua and this time around I'm using all the best practices including setting and checking metatables so that Lua can't segfault. It's going great, I properly learned about the Lua stack, and I feel good. Cross-platform double-buffered command line via a scripting language... What a way to enter 2020. Everything went so smooth that I got to 3am before I realized what even happened.1 -
So I asked a question on Stackoverflow. I got my answer and solved my problem, it improved my reputation to 15 (can upvote and post comments). But I have also got a question ban now as my questions were not good enough 🤷🏻♂️2

Err. I'm working on something this is a stupid question. But is there a way to save data and stuff without having to go into back end?
If not or if there is. What should I look into/learn to get it done without having to go too deep6 -
Applied to an AI startup, offering 100 bucks if I pass their coding challenge…hopefully just an algo question and not a damn jira ticket7

After 2 interviews and a complex case study made to apply for Javascript Architect I was asked to travel from Brazil to Germany for final interview. First question:
Interviewer: what are things that you want to learn next.
Me (dumb): Maybe some functional language like Erlang
Interviewer: why not Javascript?
Me (dumber): Javascript is not that good for functional
Man, I WAS nervous that day 😭3 -
This may be a dumb question, but are there any benefits in learning c instead of going straight to c++ for microcontrollers? I'm in my first ee semester and wondered, because we are learning c and java (next semester), but not c++2

Dad: Hey, how do I make a program work when it's not working?

quick question: If you are writing a software to start a business around it, would you make that software (or not) open source?

Question for devs who work with databases. Do you constantly get tasks that involve joining data not on keys? Data from Exel files, other servers, etc where you have to try to match things on dates, amounts and other normal data.5

boss: numbers being aside. Why is this happening 40% of the time.
me: (thinking) wtf what an idiot. wtf do you think?!
type: (politely) Well the number being wrong suggests it's *not* happening 40% of the time.
I don't know who I hate more, myself for not point out how dumb that question is. or the person asking the question. -

For at least the 3rd or 4th time this semester, I just saw a question on the CS chat about what the difference is between implements Comparable and extends Comparable in Java. Really? Do people not know how to scroll up, or did this person not realize that she didn't understand this until 2 MONTHS after the exam?1

Take a break sometimes. Go outside in fresh air and explain the problem to your self out loud. Doing this has made me ask myself the following question many times: "Why the hell have i just spent hours working on this problem and not realized this simple solution?"

There was MCQ test based on Java we were required to give by our degree college, partnered with this firm.

Why the fuck do I get on a C++ interview the question if I now Javascript......everytime.... NO I DON'T WANT TO KNOW JAVASCRIPT!!!
Real coders code in C/C++ and not hipster javascript. Am I alone???(probably)10 -
DevRant might not be a perfect place for that question but what the hell.
This is a question for people that do side projects, not only programming but electronic and mechanical as well. If you are a student even better.
(I dont wanna discourage non students but i have limited resources here...)
So the question:
While making a project have you ever had a problem where a limited access to tools was the problem?
(maybe tools was here but nobody wanted to borrow you because of paperwork or some bs.)
I mean that you had a idea or was in middle of a project and you didnt finished/(finished but in crappy condition) because lack of proper tools didnt allow you to?
I realy need your opinion on that subject, i have a nice idea i just have to test the waters.
And please tell me if you are a student or not.8 -

Some of the biggest difference between an HR from India and an International one is that the question is not “What is your current CTC?” But “What are your salary expectations?”There has been this culture in India where the current CTC is used to determine your job offer, not what you’re actually worth for the company.16

Remembering of when I first learnt about the importance of version control.
There I was, working in Visual Studio, laptop unplugged; the laptop suddenly shuts down - battery dead. Not too worried, might just have to rewrite a few lines I had not saved. Restart the machine, open VS, the file I was working on now contains strange characters - totally damaged.
Google for help, find a question on stackoverflow with the same issue (comforting moment). The answer I get:
"First question, why wasn't your code on source control?"4 -
My interview...!
From civil background, not sure about internal system architectures.
Question: how does cpu switches between processes ?

Real question: what's the fear behind people putting tape over their Webcams? Question, how would you build the ultimate "I don't want to be dependent on Google or Facebooks services" setup?

rant & question
What am I supposed to do to finally get log4j working?? It just doesn't want to log in my project. Or it simply hates me. However many tutorials and documentation I've followed, even copy pasting simplest examples with ConsoleAppendet, setting the xml config to classpath.
It starts with default fallback logging.
How do all the tutorials automagically work??1 -

To update: Cool new features, fixes, and security patches.
Not to update: to debug issues majority of techtard users will face in older versions.1 -
First time ever I put a bounty(stackoverflow) on my question. Didn't get a satisfactory answer till the end but found out the reputation does get deducted!

Stackoverflow members should relax.
I just added an answer with a question at the end. Downvoted to the oblivion because "you should not answer with a question".
My answer, posted as a comment to the question, was the right answer.
How am I supposed to help if I have not enough points to comment instead of answering?5 -
Hate it when my question goes unnoticed on stack overflow and Google doesn't give me a proper link to a solution AND THE DOCUMENTATION is not clear! -.-

Looking through Java tests, cause I need to pass one for job. And every one of them has a question like:
What's the result of:
boolean b = 42 >= 1024;
if (b = true) System.out.print(1);
else System.out.print(2);
And each time I answer like there is (b == true) and not (b = true).
Cause no one in real life would write = in if statement. Why do they put such question in each and every test.1 -

Y'all have your rubber duck to debug, but I have my own technic: the SO debugging.
It simply consists as asking your question as you'd normally do, but while doing so, you still think about your issue, and how people not knowing your problem but still knowing about dev would react to your question, making you asking other related question (SO's related question might also help).
IMHO, the most important part is the "related" question, that helps you to think outside the box. It makes your problematic progress a lot, and has the gift of not making you loosing any hope ; and if you ever block for good, your question will look less silly than at the beginning -

If you don't have a minute to ask a question to a new contributor, but you do have the time to downvote or close questions, do you really think you are doing the community a favour?
I see that AskUbuntu is not a little bit better than StackOverflow. I will just shut up and leave the assholes alone then they can tell the newbies that they're not welcome on any StackExchange and that's it.3 -

Based a bit on my own thoughts, and various things posted by others around here, not just in response to my question, I've created the first draft of such a CoC.
I'd appreciate peoples thoughts about it. I have everything set up in GitHub for review/submissions.

Interview Question:
Are there other options to make this go any shorter?
if (john == doe == max == paul == stella == false)

return (!john && !doe && !max && !paul && !stella) ? "Not Okay" : "Okay";
That was the shortest i could come up with... Maybe there is something shorter, dunno.6 -

A lot of you here rant about devs being arogant or expecting you to think for a little bit with own head and then write a proper string that will help dev answer straightforward without guessing what the author smoked or so for which there's even a tutorial made (wasn't there always). But I don't see any rants about the other side of the coin.
Let's say you are a random dude, not even that arogant type. You see a question, no answers, everyone piss on that question because it's just a mess. Yet you find yourself in a good mood, so let's help the poor soul with th trouble. Answer like from a book for kids, fully explained example and...
No points, no accepted answer, but not even any feedback! Was my answer wrong? Did I miss something? How can I improve it? Was the example too complicated?
This is exactly the type of idiot that deserves a kick in the ass. It's no site, for hanging spam! Why the hell does that kind of idiot think there's even an option for own answer? People will come back to the question eventually and what will they found? An answer, which probably isn't even correct!
(not really talking about a specific answer/question, so no need to search) -
Formatting code on stack overflow is a fuckin pain. One thing is off and the website is like WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT. And then after all that time spending formatting it, to get your question closed for not being specific enough.2

So I’m going through a CKAD course. There is a section about checking the status of our Pods or the application running in it through Readiness/Liveness Probes— they mostly use an HTTP test, but there is a TCP option as well. My question is, how will the TCP test work on HTTP/2 given that it does not have TCP (it rather uses QUIC)? Sorry if this is a dumb question.1

I'm struggling with actually quite simple but yet so complicated human behaviour.
How does one know what some other thinks of what the one thinks?
That's rethorical question. One simply does not know. But why would I even ask such a question then?2 -
"asked 7 mins ago", "closed 4 mins ago" + "Update the question so it's on-topic for Stack Overflow." - edit, but hurry up before we close! This must be Stackoverflow's new welcoming culture then? (not my question, but somebody else's, closed for not being on topic, but could have happened to me as it did several times in the past)11

Yesterday. Mean stack exam tomorrow. Only study for the websocket question. Go to the exam. Teacher says pick a question. Folded paper with questions on table. One is not neatly folded, so can see through. Says websockets. Pick question. Forget half the stuff about http protocols. Still got a B. :D
Now, time for coffee.3 -
More of a question regarding hardware and software than a rant..
Anyone here running Skylake and Linux? Mostly intrested in Arch and debian!
I need a new laptop and Skylake is all they are selling, and Windows is not an option!3 -
Sorry, technical question but my SSD is running out of space...
Not sure why the old versions are still here... they're taking up a few GBs... Can I just delete them? They're not in Add/Remove7 -
Ok, probably a really dumb question.
I'm trying out Docky, and I really like it. Buuut... for some reason when I maximize windows, it leaves a section for the toolbar and just displays the bottom part of the wallpaper under the part it's not using.
How can I change this, or can I not?2 -
A question I ask my self every week: Why - with caps lock on is still - and not _
Especially annoying when I write things like this KEY_JSON.
Didn't find anything on Google yet :/7 -
Rant/question:
httpDoSmth1().subscribe(x =>
...then(y =>
httpDoSmth2(x).subscribe(z =>
//do smth with z
return z
)
)
)
Isn't this (not my code) callback hell all over again? The 2. http call expects results from the 1. http call. I feel like this could be solved cleaner using async await/switchMap/etc. ... but not like this.13 -
Question: What tools/software do you use to write API documentation of applications with NodeJs back-end (assuming that you can not use tools like ex: sweager for weakly typed languages)?2

So... I'm assigned to do a new development, something related to integrate a Call Center service to our main app.
I have not a single clue on how to begin, at what to look, what doc to read (the service doesn't offer a good one), just trying thing and hope for some luck.
This sound familiar to you also or it's just me?
These moments make me think twice if my knowledge can handle and this scares me!
Also, it's kinda urgent and very important so... no stress!2 -
StackExchange- the place you go when you have a valid question in any academic subject if you want an answer that includes being told how stupid you are for not knowing it

PHB stops by "to ask a quick question." EVIDENTLY I'M NOT BUSY NOR AM I EVER BUSY FOR QUICK QUESTIONS. Launches into HOUR LONG conversation.

Can slack team owner see other peoples direct messages even if they're not in that chat
Probably a stupid question. Sorry1 -
Any .Net gurus about? Got a question about testing how many open connections I have.

Just a question people. Consider me a noob.
I have worked on php for a project. It's not too advanced or something but I don't get why people hate it so much.
I really need reasons.2 -
Not a rant more of a guidance question. That being said,
What are some of the best websites, tutorials, books to becoming a UI/UX designer? Or just a graphic designer?
Thank you all in advance 😁7 -
How experienced is some one at front end if they use Wordpress for every site? Genuine question because I've never used it and usually create my templates and design (not very good but hey I'm not frontend) from scratch.3

I assume most of you know the shortest joke ever : 1
but the question is : is it fun just b/c the 0 is not fun for the majority of the people and things it's put on?7 -
Not an IT question but for anyone who's in Gaming. Preferably College football lol. How much you think the game would cost considering its been non existent for like almost 10 years and apparently they are not using the same code as previous games. Like they are literally starting from scratch.8

Linux seems to be single man because whenever I enter women in terminal it says "women not found" and when I ask
man java
He answers my question. :D -
Haven't been here in a while, but I hope I will be helped with my question.
Can I get recommendations for cool software blogs to read, not primarily focused on software, but more "philosophical", kinda like Martin Folwer. -
was submitting college assignment minutes before the deadline, opened laptop and boom!
"Your PC will restart several times during windows update 37% complete"
guess what Windows is not the answer, it is the question "NO" is the answer. -
Any networking guru's here? I have a practical question regarding network controllers (SDN)
Help please. Stackoverflow is not helping 😫 -
Funny argument in class today and was curious what you lot thought, cuz Im honestly not sure who was right. student argued false. professor said true.
Question:
(True or False): A preemptive kernel is safe from race conditions on kernel data structures.11 -
Question: is it common for a boss to make you stay late because your teammates are working on something big (that you're not involved in) and they're staying late? Because he touts that it's team unity, but I feel like it's false imprisonment.8

It's all about asking the right question...
Original question that has had me stuck for years: "How do you load landscape images as landscape and not portrait? (some sort of default, always loads it with the longer dimension vertically).
A new insight that I got today while using one of these apps: "How can I rotate an image after it's loaded?"
Very easy apparently...
As long as you keep track of the current angle, just reload and set a Rotation property to (current + 90) % 360...1 -
HELP! Stack overflow did not take this question! I want to learn code! How can I learn code if they won’t help! Question was:
CS 101 take home assignment question 1: write a function to determine if an array of numbers is sorted. The function must return true if it is, false otherwise.
@Fast-Nop , @Root , @theabbie please. I have a week to get this question done 😭22 -

I want to start with web development and combine ESP projects with a nice interface or just to make a small websites showing algorithms in an animation. (Just as examples) But where the hell do I start. I have a background with C/C++ and python but want to develop more skills. Like do I go with react, node.js, typescript and postgres or something else? And what are the first steps I should take? If any of you got tutorials they can recommend I'd really appreciate that, because I feel like there are a ton of BS tutorials out there...3

I've tried to Google this question and always get the same shit. So I hope I can ask it here.
Do any of you nerds know of any windows 10 UI customization software that's not rainmeter, but like rain meter?9 -
Newbie question
Any good free resources for full stack web development. Also if a resource teaches mainly frontend but also teaches some backend it is a full stack web development resource in my eyes. I was looking at freecodecamp but it is a bit too vast for me. I am also looking at the cokplete intro to web development v2 course by Brian holt for free on frontend masters but it is 2 years old and has not been updated. Also it does not teach that much bakcend hust node and express.
Also another question is frontend masters good for web development. I did not find many threads about it. I got a discount for it which gives me a one year subscription for 195 dollars18 -
Question to all Ruby and ToR programmers. What do you hate in Ruby/RoR?
I don't know why Ruby is not Popular and didn't hear about problem with this lang.2 -
I found this video pretty cool. Its Uber's new UI. My question: Not related to dev but because I want to learn to do something like this, which software do you think was used to make this video?

Hello guys, I've posted a question here: https://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/...
It's a question regarding taking ownership of a project with a apache 2 license. I've pretty much created the back-end part of this back end as a service. Some other colleagues created the Java, ios and js clients, so it's not entirely made by me.
More details in the question itself. -
Not a rant, but a question. What Spotify playlists do you guys listen to when working? Super stoked there's a community of devs that I can ask.1

I just saw a question about a certification. If it's worth or pointless, and I am on the same situation.
I have the opportunity to get a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification. Of course, not free, it's about 90dlls.
So what did you think guys? Worth it? -
Working from home today.
I have been in this role for many months now. Not a single ticket with specs.
Question in my email inbox
"Estimates" for current ticket.
Without specs, well some time I guess. -
My question is"which value of 'a' and 'b' will give me output '1' not '0'?
C language's code is below here
#include<stdio.h>
int main()
{ float a=1.2,b=10.7;
printf("output is = %f",a&&b);
Return 0; }16 -
Major question in my mind is if they are using custom routing or not.
Obviously some types of sites would likely not be incredibly popular among ordinary folks, and then its just a matter if making ordinary folks feel that everything is ok and just fine, so they don't notice the fucking rot.1 -
But if a private question but for whoever wants to share, how much did your first job after graduation pay? I know it depends on the country or state ofc so let me know from where to. (Not collecting data for programmers starting salaries >.> I swear >.> )9
