Boss decided to limit Wi-Fi access only to company computers.
Ended up blocking everyone, including himself.10 -
Today I learned.

I'm impressed, well done4 -
Dev: this task is done, can I put it in review and do something else?
Me: sure, of course.
Dev: cool, just be aware I'll make some changes to it later.
Me: ... wait, then it's not done.
Dev: no it is, I just need to re-read it and make some changes.
Me: yeah, so it will be done when those changes are made.
Dev: but I don't know what those changes are.
Me: ... I get that ... but ... ok I'm extremely confused. Why do you think it's done.
Dev: because I've written everything I need to and I'm happy with it.
Me: ok so why do you want to make changes.
Dev: I don't.
Me: ... ... ... ... you ... you are really not being clear. If you don't want to make changes, and you are happy with it, why are you planning on making changes later ... after marking the task as done.
Dev: well if I re-read it and see something I don't like, I would like to change it.
Me: ok, so re-read it as many times as you like and make as many changes as you like. But don't mark it as done until it is done.
Dev: but it is done.
Me: no it's not.
Dev: it is, look.
Me: ... yeah looks ok at a quick glance.
Dev: ok so I can mark it as done?
Me: are you going to make more changes?
Dev: yes.
Me: then no.
Dev: why?
Me: BECAUSE ITS NOT DONE.
Dev: ok maybe I'm not explaining it clearly.
Me: ... we can both agree on that. Ok so to summarise, we don't mark something as done until we have stopped touching it. We don't half finish something and say it's done and comeback to it later. We mark it as done when we are happy with i.....
Dev: but I am happ.....
Me: *raises hand* I repeat, if it's done, we lock it away and stop touching it. If someone reads it and complains, we can come back to it with a new ticket. But it's not done until we think we are ready to send it on.
Dev: I am ready to send it, I just may want to change it.
Me: ... ... ... ... ... due to a new policy implemented just now, we are only allowed to send 1 email to a person each week. So unfortunately we can only send on 1 copy. So when you have that 1 copy, let me know.
Dev: ok, let me re-read it a few more times then.
Me: there you go.32 -
Client: "Hi, there's a problem with this link"
Me: "How odd, I'll take a look right away"
-- 19 minutes later --
Client: "Has this been fixed?"
Me: "I'm working on it currently"
Client: "OK please let us know when it's done"
Me: "I will do"
-- 2 minutes later --
Client: "Hi, is this done?"
Me: "I've just told you I will let you know as soon as it's done"
-- 5 minutes later --
Client: "Hi, sorry to hassle, but is this done yet?"
Me: *starts twitching*
Me: "I am working on it and I will let you know when it's done"
Client: "OK, well don't worry about it, it doesn't really matter"

Designer: can we put the popup at the top of the screen?
Me: You mean op top of the navigation?
Designer: Yeah.
Me: I sure can. Would be stupid to block off the site navigation with a popup, but definately possible.
Designer: Cool, let me know when done!
Me: ....
Me: I am done.
Designer: Well now I can't click on the navigation anymore.
Me: That's correct. Let me know when you want to change it again.13 -

Going on a vacation, so notify all clients that I won't be available during two weeks.
Client: well we have this huge presentation and here's a list of stuff we absolutely need for it
Me: sure I have a look.
Me: holy shit dude! That's gona take about 2-3 days. I'm leaving soon!
Client: it's realy critical to have them in a week as it's a very important presentation! Is there any way you can make it work? If we can do anything to help, just name it.
Me: well I'll do my best (planed 1 day for such rhings)
Me: *pulling a 15h day*
Me: here, all done budy! Did a 15h but now it's done, so do that presentation!

Client: well I did a thing and now stage and prod is fucked, can you do anything?
Me: (knowing it will take 30min to fix) well... I try my best. Btw. I'll leave in a few hours and won't take my computer, so try not to fuck every thing again, okay? -
President of my employer: how long do you thing it will take to complete x type of migration?
Me: I don't know. We've never done one.
President: well how long do you think it will take based on your experience?
Me: I don't know. I've never done one.6 -
Dev: I’m taking a vacation next week
Manager: Good you need a break! I’ve put together a list of tickets for you to action during vacation since you’ll mostly be free during that time
Dev: Do you know what vacation means?
Manager: Well I work during *my* vacation
Dev: You write non-answers to emails and interrupt devs with status questions that are easily answered by a single glance at the kanban board. Also, you’ve just assigned a month’s worth of storyboard points to me on my week long vacation. We’d get more work done if you didn’t “work” during your vacation.
Manager: Well it all needs to get done! It’s the only way we can catch up and get ahead of schedule.
Dev: Why do you exist again?15 -
- We need an android app. Can you do this?
+ Never done that, but I can try.
- Do you even know Java?
+ Not really, but I'll learn fast!
- Any OOP experience?
+ Well...I know CPP.
- 😐
- Will you give me a prototype tonight?
+ Don't know. How about tomorrow?
- Ok.
...
+ *makes a prototype in couple of hours, becomes a Java developer*
Just like that.8 -
Just saw a microsoft ad saying:
“Six reasons for switching to SQL Server on Linux“

I love coming home from classes to get some work done on my setup.
My thought is; if I'm going to be sitting here for hours at a time working, may as well make it a comfortable environment.45 -
Got to love when the client has no requirements, other than, they want a website and they need it done as soon as possible.
Well in that case.... Here's your website.

00:00: Yeah I'll change that now, it'll only take 5 minutes.
00:05: well that's done, better do this too though before I forget.
02:20: well that escalated quickly.. Better grab 3 hours sleep while I can.
04:00: Fuck.4 -
Manager: "How long will this take?"
Me: "Er... it depends."
Manager: "Depends on what?"
Me: "Well, if the reactive hyperflux core's external dampeners are--"
Manager: "Yeah, yeah, whatever just get it done."
Me: "You got it boss."2 -
The moment that I finally understood OOP.
Several teachers had already given up explaining it over and over again but one classmate took a few hours to explain.
Suddenly, after a few hours, that AH-HA! moment was there!
I've done as much OOP programming as possible since then and have explained it to others who were struggling with it as well 😊30 -
Fell like I can finally vent this now I've calmed down.
Me: You've fucked the tree again
Junior: No I haven't
Me: It says there "Fixing merge conflicts"
Junior: Well it wasn't me I wouldn't have done a merge
Me: It has your name next to it...
Junior: Well that commit wasn't there a second ago
Me: it's dated for Friday...
Junior: Well if you hadn't committed to master and blah blah blah
Me: We'll if you knew know to use git we wouldn't have this problem.12 -
Hate it when i spend hours upon hours implementing an algorithm/program (in C++ btw) and whenever I show it to someone... They r like
Them: Huh... Spent so much time to display JUST that?!
😭😭
Well... Only programmers understand the amount of time required to get things done...9 -

PM: Please get this done by tomorrow. It's just a small change.
Dev: No its not that simple.
PM: Why is it not simple? Please explain so I can understand.
Dev after a hard thought finally explains: blah blah blah
PM: Well, we have promised the client so please do this by tomorrow, thanks.

Installing a new Debian VM/VPS.
Nearly done with all steps and decide to lay down.
Fall asleep and wake up half an hour later.
The grub option is on screen.
I am sleepy as fuck.
Accidently selected the manual option and just pressed enter at the screen where I have to enter the device name.
FUCK.
Well, let's install this fucker again.7 -
Product Owner: "Our definition of done is putting it on production. So you are only done if it's on production. Otherwise our sprint goal is failed."
So we put it on production.
After deploy, some content manager appears: "Why is the system doing things? I was told this should not happen today."
"Erm, we have put the feature on production as we are only done if it's on production."
"Well, yes. But it should not be live yet!"
Oh well. Communication, or the lack thereof, does never fail to amaze me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯5 -
My duck came in, along with his two capes, the stickers I forgot to ask for, and the note I requested.
In the special instructions box, I asked that they include a note that said something random, and they delivered.
"devRant ducks do dances directly downstairs daily"
Well done @dfox @trogus or whoever does the shipments, I'm thoroughly entertained :D8 -
Me, Linux guy, who likes.. really likes..
Visual Studio..Code.
Visual Studio Code.
👍Well done "Tiles Corp.".9 -
Manager: Hey Dev I need to do QA on this PR.
Dev: That PR is not finished yet
Manager: Well do QA now anyway, that way when it is finished it can be merged in right away since QA has already been done on it. It’s a project management technique called “fast-tracking” and it improves efficiency.
Dev: …9 -
I'm starting to fucking hate the word 'done'.
Scenario 1:
Boss: How's the spec coming along?
Manager: Oh, it's done.
Manager to me: Hey can you get it done?
Me: Why would you call it done? There's a days worth of work and it's only half done. Boss wasn't even rushing it yet.
Manager: Too late I've already committed it. I'm sure it's simple anyway. Just do it.
Scenario 2:
Manager: Hey is it done?
Noob dev: Yea it's done.
*Commits half assed incomplete sphagetti shit that breaks stuff*
Manager: Well done. Completed so quickly.
FUCK THIS SHIT.2 -
So... an Italian government website published sensitive data of thousand of citizens, because they thought that it was enough to turn white the text color in order to anonymize the sensitive content of the files. Italy, 2019.

"Can you do this?"
Sure, give me the information I need...
"We don't have all of it yet"
So I can't do it then
"Well when can you do it"
When you get the information
"Do you need *all* of it"
Well, it's either I do half a job and waste my time, or get it all done in one shot
"The client wants it tomorrow"
When will we have the information?
"We don't know"
Well they aren't having it tomorrow then, are they...
Sales people... don't care *how* things work, as long as they get a tick against their name to show they've sold something...3 -
Fuck those clients which are surprised when they get an invoice when they ask you to do something for them.
I think it's as simple as:
- you know my hourly rate
- you ask me to do some work for you
- I give you an estimation
- you agree with the estimation
- I get the job done and show it to you
- you accept the edits/solutions
- I send you an invoice with less hours than estimated
- you agree with the invoice and pay
It seems that every step is going well, except the last one...
Well... fuck you too.13 -
Laziest dev thing I've ever done.
An annoying "I-do-nothing-but-delegate-and-make-fuzz" manager proposed to create a new application with redundant functionalities, that would take me at least half a year to build.
Practically, the app would never be used and I didn't want to put effort in that monstrosity.
So, naturally I...
Pressure the right people, schedule numerous meetings, become the project manager for all internal applications and... I cancel the project.4 -
Client: How's our B2B data lookup platform coming along?
Me: All done, your clients can now search by first/last name as well.
Client: I just search "fuck" as first name and 5 results came up, our data is not cleaned up properly.
Me: Fuck
Client: Fuck2 -
IPod didn't sync well on my Linux machines so decided to give windows - in a highly isolated environment disconnected from the Internet behind a firewall and sandbox - a shot with itunes.
- during the installation it wouldn't detect the fucking harddrive multiple times (genuine unlicensed copy) and after the 4-5th time it's random-fuckingly recognized out of fucking nowhere; I didn't change shit.
- crashes (blue screen and freezes) multiple times during the installation, multiple retries and suddenly it works(?!)
- it took about 10 minutes (!!!!!!!) to install 10+ drivers for an iPod and an external hdd:
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
Installing seagate drivers... Done
Installing Apple iPod drivers... Done
WHY INSTALL THOSE FUCKERS 5 FUCKING TIMES?!
- iTunes installation fails multiple times without error code (unknown error occured, restoring to original state...),just said fuck it and clicked the shortcut after the ***th fail and it works just like this, THANKS FOR NOTIFYING ME (NOT)!
- iTunes has to restore the entire ipod, this was done with iTunes in the store I bought it already, thanks for nothing.
-restore takes 30+ minutes?!
-syncs the iPod 3 times afterwards.
*clicks close button*
*are you sure you want to quit? Sync in progress*
*oh shit, cancels*
*itunes quits*
*?!?!?*
*tries to import media library*
*seagate hdd suddenly not detected*
I'm fucking tired of this bullshit, windows and iTunes can go die in a fucking corner after getting ass raped while their genitals are being scraped off layer by fucking layer and dipped into fucking acid.15 -
I'm doing code review. Unsure about the deadline, I ask my co-worker:
Me: "Guess I'm half through, when do I have to be done?"
Co-worker: "Well if you're half through, you are already half done."
Me: "No shit, Sherlock."
LOL -
What!?!
You have to update Microsoft Visual Studio Installer 2017 in order to update Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Preview?!?! WTF!?! WELL DONE MICROSOFT!
Xamarin is 27GB, whaaaaaat?!?4 -
Boss just phoned me and told me of his great app idea. Says he wants the idea done and implemented by tomorrow 8AM. Meaning I have 8 hours to plan a project, design the app, and implement it.
Well, I'm boned.11 -
Robots done, for now! Well, the basics are done. Just fueling up at the moment :)
Tomorrow I'll put up a little gif of it moving around, but I wanted to get this out as soon as possible, because making physical things isn't my strong point, and I ran into a lot of problems
Shoutout to my school for having a free to use laser cutter2 -
Today I left my job in which I spent these last 5 years.
My boss wasn't very pleased with me leaving the company today. But well, it had to be done
Now it's time to focus in freelancing and my own startup. Surely my work will be paid more accurately than these 5 years, one of the reasons I left.15 -
I love how C++ is getting better and better with every new standard. How preprocessor-hacks become less and less relevant.
Now C++ 20 is finally giving us modules, and we only had to wait 26 years longer than the Fortran guys. Well done, people. Well done.

That's an impressive algorithm there, cdkeys. You found nothing in 2ms.
Well done.
Well.
Done.

2nd interview today for a job. I thought it went well but I could tell one guy did not like me. They said they were done after 20 minutes. They told the recruiter I was not senior enough. I have been a dev since 2001. I answered all of their tech questions. Really frustrating.3

*based on a true story*
Co-worker: Let's release it
Me: Wait, I want to add just a little feature
Co-worker: Is it necessary?
Me: Trust me
*5 minutes later*
Co-worker: So, have you finished implementing your "little feature"?
Me: Yeah, well, it's done. Maybe.
Co-worker: What the hell have you done?
Me: MAYBE I've added 647 lines of codes to the file to implement my little feature, MAYBE it doesn't works and MAYBE the entire project is compromised
Co-worker: ah3 -
Boss : going to up you as a project manager!
Coworker1 : well done bro
Boss : with all you knowledges, you'll be able to make great diagnotics, evaluate time for each task and lead the team
Coworker2 : you're wrong..
Me : hell no, doing stats and evaluate your shit ? Overcomunicating ?
Boss : you don't accept ?
Me : of course no! Opening my ide twice a week ? I need more fun .1 -
It's sad that such a primitive thing as a DDoS attack can bring down a huge chunk of the internet. Well done Dyn for being so unprepared.7

Success to me is silence. No phone calls, no emails, no "why doesn't this work?"
It's when you made something that works in the background, almost invisibly, that others could take for granted but that they also don't bother you with because it is still working as designed.1 -
Man, most memorable has to be the lead devops engineer from the first startup I worked at. My immediate team/friends called him Mr. DW - DW being short for Done and Working.
You see, Mr. DW was a brilliant devops engineer. He came up with excellent solutions to a lot of release, deployment, and data storage problems faced at the company (small genetics firm that ships servers with our analysis software on them). I am still very impressed by some of the solutions he came up with, and wish I had more time to study and learn about them before I left that company.
BUT - despite his brilliance, Mr. DW ALWAYS shipped broken stuff. For some reason this guy thinks that only testing a single happiest of happy path scenarios for whatever he is developing constitutes "everything will work as expected!" As soon as he said it was "done", but golly for him was it "done". By fucking God was that never the truth.
So, let me provide a basic example of how things would go:
my team: "Hey DW, we have a problem with X, can you fix this?"
DW: "Oh, sure. I bet it's a problem with <insert long explanations we don't care about we just want it fixed>"
my team: "....uhh, cool! Looking forward to the fix!"
... however long later...
DW: "OK, it's done. Here you go!"
my team: "Thanks! We'll get the fix into the processing pipelines"
... another short time later...
my team: "DW, this thing is broken. Look at all these failures"
DW: "How can that be? It was done! I tested it and it worked!"
my team: "Well, the failures say otherwise. How did you test?"
DW: "I just did <insert super basic thing>"
my team: "...... you know that's, like, not how things actually work for this part of the pipeline. right?"
DW: "..... But I thought it was XYZ?"
my team: "uhhhh, no, not even close. Can you please fix and let us know when it's done and working?"
DW: "... I'll fix it..."
And rinse and repeat the "it's done.. oh wait, it's broken" a good half dozen times on average. But, anyways, the birth of Mr. Done and Working - very often stuff was done, but rarely did it ever work!
I'm still friends with my team mates, and whenever we're talking and someone says something is done, we just have to ask if it's done AND working. We always get a laugh, sadly at the excuse of Mr. DW, but he dug his own hole in this regard.
Little cherry on top: So, the above happened with one of my friends. Mr. DW created installation media for one of our servers that was deployed in China. He tested it and "it was done!" Well, my friend flies out to China for on-site installation. He plugs the install medium in and goes for the install and it crashes and burns in a fire. Thankfully my friend knew the system well enough to be able to get everything installed and configured correctly minus the broken install media, but definitely the most insane example of "it's done!" but sure as he'll "it doesn't work!" we had from Mr. DW.2 -
"Installing... We'll be done in just a moment."
Well, Microsoft, it seems that you and I have a very different understanding of the word "moment".3 -
THE TIME HAS COME, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
I finished the avatar editor on the rewrite. It works so well.
After trial and error in design, API reversing and more, I've finally done it.6 -
The hell, why'd I write an add-on for a system I don't know as well while I could just implement a PHP version easily!?
Even if it is just to fucking prove that this can easily be done in PHP!5 -
The curse of people working "Agile"

Just watched Snowden
to check if Edward had completed his assignment that is supposed to take 5 hours but Ed does it in 40 min, top CIA director guy types:
cd backup
ls

Pats Ed on back. Well done super hacker.
Apparently by opening a folder and looking at what files are in said folder you can confirm the success of a CIA exam.3 -
Me: soooo can you get this done by next week?
Other dev: well who knows what rabbit hole I'll fall down. There's no way to tell.
Me: can you just avoid falling down a rabbit hole? We have a deadline.
Other dev: oh ya there's no way to know for sure.
Me: ....... Can you please try harder
Other dev: I'm trying I can't.
Me: ................6 -

Anyone else flipping tired of hearing: we need more this, more that, more blacks, more women, more whatever, in tech?
We don’t fucking need more anyone in anything.
We just need sane, talented and hard working people to get the job done well. And do that with courtesy to all person.11 -

😸:oh hi, i came in early to checkout this game, but i was just about to get off and start work.
😎:I'm not your boss. I don't caire what you do.
👺:I am your boss, and as long as you get the work done, on time, and done well, I don't care if it looks lie you are doing nothing but being paid to play games. If anyone does bother you about playing games at work let me and I will let them know to leave you alone.3 -
So I was finally done with the project, every feature was implemented the way I wanted it be, every piece of code optimized and well written, I was completely satisfied with my code and didn't feel the urge to add a "last little feature/optimization"...

Then I woke up 😭😭😭2 -
Honestly these icons are really nice and are a good medium between clean and defined. I think Material failed as a whole to accomplish the paper look but this is very well done and has subtle but not 2008-era giga-drop-shadow depth. Well done, weather app.1

Anyone an idea? Trying to install proxmox on my HP Proliang again but no matter what I do, it can't find a bootable disk. I've done this about 20 times before (and that worked well) and I did change the boot order but I already set that back again.
Anyone? Help 😥10 -
Well done windows a zero day bug that escalates privilege. Google was so pissed about it they released the info before Microsoft could fix it 😂8

When a customer moans about a site not working in an old version IE. I bet they have their steak well done when ordering in a restaurant too.

I guess I'm taking the piss.
I just spend half an hour wondering why a unit test failed; turns out all calculations were done correctly, just that -5 + 3 was being calculated and the test expected the solution to be -1.
Well, -5 + 3 does not equal -1 and I'm too stupid to add.
Half an hour. (-_- )2 -
Well done firefox for not implementing some stuff from ES6, because you decided to do so. Isn't the releases of EcmaScript considered to be standards? I'm a Firefox fan, but damn, Chrome is so much more advanced.7

IBM decided to change the EOL of CentOS 8 from 2029 to 2021, then continue CentOS as useless RR testbed. What a nice attempt at forcing users into the paid RedHat version.
That's a risky move because Rocky Linux is already gearing up to replace CentOS, and the whole RedHat ecosystem could bleed out to Ubuntu, Suse, and Debian LTS. Well done, suits.16 -
Team estimated a huge feature with 60 days. Made a prototype in a day, implemented it in the project the next day. Code looks a lot cleaner than a previous similar solution.
Now it’s 90% done. Should have worked with 2 other people. Oh well, sorry not sorry for that teamwork.3 -

I spent the last weeks rewriting a huge project which I had to hurriedly write a year ago. No comments, no documentation, spaghetti code. Part me was an asshole! But now I am done, all is new, everything is well commented, structured in classes with well defined tasks. Yay.2

Co-Worker laughed at me for taking a task on their side project and only them have worked at it. FYI i've never worked as a Dev before and I have a really low knowledge of web developing. Well i finished the task in time and sent the pull request to one of them. Got a 'well done dude, high five'. Feels good man :)

For the coming few months, refactoring my entire life. Everything will be redone with modularity in mind. So far it seems to be working well. Once the foundations are stable, I could start focusing further on the development of my Linux distribution. Hopefully that'll be done soon.6

After two weeks with Ubuntu - I'm done with this. I'm going back to Windows.
Why? Well, it fixes some Windows problems, but at the same time new ones are popping and they are even bloody worse.10 -
My colleague does not use git (well, not for much), hates all external frameworks, and when he sees my code he tells me "that's not how I would have done this", every single goddamn time. Aaand we are the only two developers in our company.4

Me a month ago: "I'm done with full-time corporate work. I'm going to shift to freelance only so I can enjoy my life and not be in a grind, bowing and scraping to a manager all day."
*Recruiter finds me and offers me a full-time opportunity*
Me now: "Well, I guess I can look into it..."
Me 9 months from now: "I'm done with full-time corporate work. I'm going to shift to freelance only so I can enjoy my life and not be in a grind, bowing and scraping to a manager all day."
Repeat until dead.2 -
Oh, it's finally done and works well!
Oh, let me just optimize that a little... And probably rename this...
5 minutes later:
Shit it does not work now.
10 hours of debugging later:
I'll fix it later

I mean, I really, really like Linux, don't get me wrong but I don't know if it's my Pi or something I've done but I've always gotten issues with it after a few weeks/months.
Everything will flow smoothly until it crashes, and it won't start the x server, and pretty much everything tells me there is a segmentation fault. A fresh install fixes the issue but I also loose all the stuff I've done with my previous install. Really annoying and I haven't found a definitive answer as to why this happens.
Oh well.7 -
Well, here is another Intel CPU flaw.
I'm starting to think that all these were done on purpose...

Lovely and thankful clients do exist!
Last week the client of our last project came to my desk to shake my hand and thank me for my well done work. Keeping in mind that I'm a junior dev and our company has around 3000 employees I was really flattered :)1 -
them: "Is it done yet?"
wisecrack: "Not yet."
them: "How close do you think you are to being done?"
wisecrack:"Dunno. It's going smooth though."
them:"well do you think it'll be done in a few days?"
wisecrack:"Well I don't know. Depends on if you want to keep playing 20 questions instead of letting me work."
them:"Well I'm just excited."
Wisecrack: "Ok."
Literal conversation I just had ten minutes ago.
Less excited each day I have to answer the same set of questions, sometimes multiple times a day as if I know the answer.
What do I look like, a professional developer?1 -
Today my boss told me to work more properly, because the massive feature I'm working is only halfway done.
Well thank you very much, obviously it's only halfway done yet. I'm responsible for the backend and the development for the frontend started today, by another guy who was working on another stuff until now. And I'm pretty sure we agreed that I will only do the backend...
Thanks for the uncalled critique. Great way to make me feel like my work is not appreciated. This motivated me very much to work the whole on the integration.2 -
Fuck unreasonable deadlines. Just do your stuff as if you have the time of the world. Stop compromising the quality of your work and things are going to be done when they're done. Good quality stuff that's worth the wait.
I started to tell this to myself this week. For months now I took the bait that everything is urgent. And whatever crap management want has to be done yesterday. But.... Well... They pushed it too effing far.
Redo this module that took the former team about six months to finish. You have 10 days.
Well... What? Everyone is saying yes?... Everyone going full code monkey making no progress?
This is the moment I stop compromising and stop listening to your suggestions. I am going to do what I know how to do, the way I know it works, and I will not cut one corner based off your suggestions. I'm sorry, I've been dealing with this shit for too long already, and I don't want to suffer the consequences of degrading the quality of what I write anymore.5 -
I finally finished what I considered the biggest challenge thus far: rant editing, deleting and also favoriting/unfavoriting. You can already post rants through my app as well! I am getting so damn close to being done with the basic things. After that - notifications!3
-
Well fuck me i thought working for a company was 1) i do work 2)company pays me. Not fucking spending 3 whole days running between government offices trying to get my taxes done because half of the documents can only be sent online and the other half can only be sent in person.1

Went into an ikea store. For a photobox. Also got one of their remote controlled light bulbs which can change light temperature I didn't know I needed before.
2€ photobox, 30€ for the bulb and its remote.
Well done ikea.5 -

Well I feel accomplished today :) Got a lot done on my little devrant-widget project. I'm gonna try and make it open source soon, just trying to fix all this spaghetti code I created xD -
Oh so day continued....
My boss just asked me before I left... You know that report we wanted automated, you said you'd get it done by today, is it done yet?
Me: well uh who dragged me into a PROD issue because no one else knows how to investigate... EVEN THOUGH I BUILT AND SHOWED U HOW TO USE THEM... SEVERAL TIMES. (no i didn't say this last but that's what went on in my head).
Oh and I figured out what the issue was... -
I really appreciate the idea of unlocking items for avatars with a raising amount of ++s!
It's an awesomely elegant way to motivate devs without pushing them and keep them in the regular user base of devrant.
Dear sirs @dfox and @trogus.
You done a very fine job :)1 -
Start-up life.
Learning to code but must do website.
Must learn illustrator....
Can`t even select a fucking circle without it becoming a splatterod non sensical shapes.
Been at it for 2 weeks.
Boss/friend like. Hey i know its the holidays but lets catch up to see what youve done....
Me. Well... I can fuck up circles ;)9 -
Bought a new 1TB ssd from Intel for my laptop. The installation of the drive itself went perfectly, it works like a charm. But then I had to do a clean install of windows and ubuntu, and that's where things went wrong. The drive still works perfectly, but everything else has fallen apart. I've been fighting with them the whole working day and haven't got anything work related done. Well, a few more hours and I can head home and continue the installation with a few cold beers, that should help getting it done ;)1

Poor Mr. Squishy working as a window stopper, since some clever folks at the property management department, after months of nagging to get blinds so that the light reflected doesn’t interfere with my (light in general, not direct sunlight).
They installed the blinds in front of the window, so it can only be opened a few centimetres… Well done! Well done! I have to choose, either slightly warmer air than I prefer, or bothersome light reflection in all of my monitors.17 -
Anyone know of any hosts NOT running on amazon/silicon valley/microsoft cloud?
I'm specifically looking for a host thats setup for or works well with python.
I'm about done with censorship and noplatforming. As a moderate that for a very long time was left of center, these practices are never justified.49 -
Having a hard time in an internal test of our app. I thought all okay, but there is some bug, every time. Internal test team, well done.
-
we just created a new web dev team (3 months) and boss came to us, looked what frontend guy has done already (one guy who joined us month ago) and said "this is not how i imagined our platform. It should be working next month". Well how about providing anything to let us know what do you want? Well Im fighting now to get some brief at least ;)

Smalltalk looks like an OO language done right. History rarely seems to be kind to well designed languages.2

Well done Microsoft
You’ve transformed a product MS Excel from something great into something unusable ..endlessly over designing it with needless fucking icons everywhere…
Just leave it THE FUCK ALONE from 20078 -
Well, this'll sound like my first rant but my boss did it again. working on implementing a new feature. but I got sick last week and took some time to recoup. well come into the office todat, tell him I'm going to finish it. he says okay. 3pm comes around and I go and ask him for some help on finishing it. he says "check out the repository, I already did it."
okay. I'm sick. you want it done. fine. that's cool. but you made me waste literally my entire workday doing something you knew was already completed? WTF?5 -
1.
Accuracy 0.90 achieved so easily, makes me wonder if I've done something wrong. Lol.

Well Argos, you now know what bad developers + Java can bring you. An out of bounds on an empty array -.^
Good job guys. Really, well done! -
If you compliment my code, there's a 50% chance I'll lose control of my speaking volume and a 200% chance I'll act like a giddy schoolgirl for a solid 10 minutes. Nothing quite makes your day like a job well done notice.

jumped one of my backends from .NET 6 to .NET 8...
no breaking changes...
all nuget packages updated flawlessly...
well played microsoft, well played...
i'm incredibly suspicious and skeptical...
only thing missing is pushing the changes because bitbucket is doing "scheduled maintenence" that they apparently told no one about. 🤡

welp, guess i'm done for the next few hours6 -
... I really truly hate with a passion..
when you've agreed on one solution and when it's done, but not approved and deployed..
suddenly decides "oh it needs, x-y-z that I said it won't need"..
Mind you, that x-y-z things mean rewriting a lot of it...
Oh well, at least I get paid for the extra hours to be spent.1 -
Saturday morning. 10am.
Me: happily sleeping on the sofa in a friend's apartment.
Boss calls: 'oh did I wake you up? Can you please develop this mockup over the weekend?'
Being half asleep I agreed.
Well. After 7h without any break it is done. But one Saturday is lost and I'll never get it back :(4 -
So you know those motivating moments, when you are asked by a junior dev 'cause his task is impossible to solve and you take 3 minutes to say it's done?
Well. Juniors are still learning.
BUT WHY CANT YOU USE DOCS AND GOOGLE?????2 -

ML Dude: “Ehmmmm”2 -
They are getting better..
Got a message on LinkedIn from a very beautiful recruiter lady asking me to have a coffee to discuss job possibilities.
She actually had a look at my skills.
- my native language is important
- Technologies and roles are a good fit
- she wrote that they also have an office here in Dublin (I mentioned in my profile that I’ll never take a job back home again)
„They also have a gaming room if you’re into that“..
The probably best message I’ve ever gotten from a recruiter.
If I wouldn’t really like my current job I’d definitely meet up with her..
Hypothetical question.. would it be okay to hit on a recruiter on LinkedIn although you’re not interested in the job?😍8 -
I like to code as a hobby as well as do it as a day job so it surprises me quite alot when people get all funny about me coding outside of work/uni. It's just funny because half of these brain dead students know nothing about anything other than what they're taught in education. Most students are so fucking stupid nowadays and they don't like to read or research or learn. But I'm the anomaly. Ok guys. Well done, go get pissed; it's the best you can do with your braindead selves.3

laters Microsoft.
Well been on PopOS for my laptop for about 4 months and hell I have had OS killing problems and nothing and I mean nothing made me think let's go back to Windows.
So it's official, Windows is slowly getting it's holes bricked up as I am done.
I don't have the tools I used on Windows for making my desktop apps but all my modding tools and well PHP can be done on anything so hey I am all good.
If you like Windows then enjoy your spyware you have that right.5 -
So just opened Twitter at work to see Dark souls remastered is a thing... Instantly though "here we go, a $100 rerelease capped at 30FPS on console, oh well still getting it", went to EB games and read the description for the Xbox edition, running at 60FPS and for $60 AUD.... Dear all AAA developers...
THIS IS HOW YOU DO A REMASTER!!!!
Up the frame rate to 60 if previously capped at 30, upgrade textures and charge a reasonable amount for it!
Well done Bandai!3 -
Piddling, and trying to learn some game stuff. Very simple game stuff.
Example code:
if (level % 10 === 0...) {
speed += 0.3;
...
} else if (level % 5 === 0...) {
speed += 0.1;
...
}
But because Javascript, console log reads:
speed: 0.5 <-- this is the initial console log
speed: 0.6
speed: 0.8999999999999999
speed: 0.9999999999999999
Well done Javascript, well done.25 -
Does anyone have experience in turning a website idea into a working business? I had a website idea so me and friend decided to make it happen. So far the development is going well, but we don't really know what's next after we're done. Does anyone know any resources regarding what's next? However to reach audience, investors and staff like that?11

IONICS DOCUMENTATION SUCKS A FUCKING BIG ONE!! Well done on a shit welcome to ionic experience cunts7

Well! Interview at Amazon done! Really nice people with a good mentality. Nothing left but to cross fingers!2

Well I figured out why my delete button wasn't working...
I'm so burnt out and ready for school and this capstone project to be done.1 -
Just spent 10 minutes debugging why my game is launching with the console presets and UI only to see that I set my configuration to Console...
Well done...2 -
It seems being your own boss (on side projects) isn't much better... keep telling myself to "add just one more feature" , "make a slight improvement"
Well there goes the whole morning... which I was supposed to spend doing other stuff....
In fact I told myself and everyone I was done a few days ago... but it keeps coming back...2 -
Received a new HP Probook 640 G2 laptop for work, everyone else has theirs as 64bit machines. Yet the idiots who handle hardware and software installs installed windows for a 32bit machine. Well at least I get waste half a day and do nothing while they redo everything and then I have to still get shit done later.

When someone over complicates everything. Turns what could be a three paragraph billeted system launch email into four dense pages that no one will finish reading. First page tooting their horn for a job not well done. Usually 'less is more'2
-
!dev?
It's getting cold now over here and all I want to do is sleep... I have no motivation to do anything useful (dev, useful reading) either, just binge watch TV...
So wondering how do you actually get shit done (stuff you should do but don't have to do)? Maybe it's the food related as well?7 -
My productivity today:
- [11:05] Decided to get something done to be able to enjoy the evening even more (an important deadline draws near).
- [11:06] Ran out of coffee apparently. Well, that sucks.
- [11:25] Trouble with the environment on my machine at home.
- [14:00] Trouble continues, tried using tools to fix trouble, ran into trouble with said tools, ended up fixing trouble with tools before fixing trouble with environment with tools.
- [15:30] Fixed environment, finally ready to get something done.
- [16:30] Spent an hour browsing the web.
- [16:31] Decided this was enough work for a saturday.
Well.1 -
Love the new web app for devRant!
Would love to see it as a PWA in the future but it's currently an amazing web app, well done guys! -
https://techcrunch.com/2020/06/...
Yet another tool to "empower" management into thinking they are able to do in days what takes engineers years to accomplish.
All this is going to do is create technical debt for developers to consume when management is promoted for a "job well done".
Fuck.3 -
We are 1 week from first system demo of a down well seismic system. All the SW to run on the sensor nodes inside the well pipe has been developed with driver mockups since the FPGA team hasn't finished their part yet. So, integration, integration testing, system test and bug fix must be done in a hurry! Does this scenario sound familiar?3

Ok let's see. Who tha he'll created this code... Well well let's rewrite it. 8 hours later. OK now it is done. Let's see who to blaim... :@
O no!! it's me :( -
i suddenly understand people ranting about programming languages. sure, it gets the job well done but vba syntax just makes me feel uncomfortable2

Saturday and a new VSCode Insiders release?
Normally there is no new release on the weekend. Well done Microsoft, except for the fact that I now have the following message in the terminal: "your 131072x1 screen size is bogus. expect trouble" :)
Otherwise, the performance of the current release (code-insiders_1.17.0-1506717283) is way better than the previous one.4 -
Host: The 'sessions' folder is too full, we moved the website in a quarantine server.
Me: Well, someone forgot to cleanup sessions when they're done.
Boss: Just delete the folder contents every 3 days!
Me: What.2 -
Just subscribed to this. My first subscription or even purchase, from the store. That should tell the developers something about their work. Well done.1

Thank you, company forced windows update! My 60 minutes reconfiguring rabbitmq and postgres were well invested instead of investigating the memory leak fucking hibernate causes.
I'm done. -
My Senior posts on LinkedIn about fostering a good work environment, but nobody in our office talks to each other and every time he comes in I get 45 trello cards about what I’ve not done right. Not a single time have I got a ‘well done, you’ve really taken initiative, you’ve managed to do something new without any guidance’
What’s the point in being on a juniors salary if I’m not being taught anything?5 -
I handed a technical story to my dev to work on, including an example of how it has been done elsewhere in the system. He comes back and told me it does not look that simple. Well yeah, that's your job to solve the problem.
-
I need cyclic data structures but algebraic data types are my first love and tying the knot is impossible with the eagerness F# has. The interfaces and classes I abandoned C# for are the ones I am now writing in F#. What a job well done on my part in avoiding mutability :(6

Create something "revolutionary", become recognized worldwide and respected for what I've done. Maybe becoming BDFL of my own language or give my name to an algorithm, something like that. Not necessarily rich or famous, I just want to leave a mark on the face of the earth. Do you know Federico Faggin? Well someone like him.
-
Well been working on my game engines CLI data tools for a while now, got sprite packing working but completely forgot I had to work out a packing method for JSON, XML and a few other files into 1 package... Fuck...
At least the easy part is done, just need to work out a proper and efficient way to store everything... -
*Creates a random .NET core console application on windows*
Alright, I've created this in Dropbox til I get some traction with it..
*Edits a few things, saves project and syncs files then open's project on mac later that night*
And some more progress, brilliant, save and done..
*Turns on pc next day and see's dropbox taking 80% CPU usage and %20 disk usage*
What the fuck! Ok ctrl alt delete to the rescue!
*Notification pops up saying Dropbox deleted over 20, 000 files*
Well... Aren't we off to a fucking great start .NET Core...
(Yes I know I can get all files back, done and done and can't actually 100% pin it down to .NET Core..) -
My tl sits in The room next to me.
Today he came in to me and asked me how it looked with The release.
I asked him What he meant by that.
"Well, we had release on friday, but you never contacted me about it."
Me: "What? Friday? Since when did we have releases with two weeks inbetween? And why havent I gotten this news?"
Tl: "Well, we don't usualy, but you know... Any way, can you have it done by today?"
Me, 10sec away from a cardiac arrest: "NO, are you insane? You have to tell me about this earlier than the same day."
Tl: "Yeah, but there's been so much work recently.. Well, we'll talk later."
Omfg...6 -
I'm in the ER being held overnight. Buy I still cannot stop stressing about the work I missed today. As well as all the work that needs done by Monday. Why can't I ignore work even while an the hospital3
-
- never push to prod on friday or before lunch time
- doublecheck fucking everything
- test your code before and also after you push it
- you remember yesterday your colleague/boss/pm told you his part will be done by now? well guess what, its not! it never will be... -
Spends months on a clearly laid out project. Finally gets to the end.
"Great stuff, well done - now let's start the next section of it"
"...the what now?"2 -
Totally forgot that protonmail released an android app. Now that I've tried it, I have to say that it's absolutely fantastic! Really well done protonmail team :-)
-
This lead is an asshole, I'm the only who gets shit. Even if other people have the same issue.
To me: "The purpose was to have it done now."
To others: "Well, at least you have it mostly done."7 -
Just spent hours trying find why my game was so janky looking in movement only to realise I dropped the max frame rate to 30 instead of its max 240... Well done Alex!2
-
How do you manage switching between different languages and the tools and frameworks that are used for each?
Or frontend server and APIs are in JS and use mocha for testing.
But backend is in Java which uses Mockito.
Every time I need writes tests and well anything that is language specifics, I basically have to relearn rather than just getting it done.2 -
Nice. I can't update my alarm app because I don't want Galaxy Apps to access my contacts. Well done. Whatever these two have in common...2

Fucking Chrome. I wish him cancer to die soon. Yeah, please fucking give me as event target svg element! Well done!2

Im starting to make a project to manage incoming emails from my teachers. It's gonna sort them by class and filter out a bunch of junk that college sends me. Also gonna set it up so it's easier for me to keep track of which things I've done and what I am working on, as well as probably have something that shows how soon things are due.3
-
> You have found an even better place to make the code changes than I had indicated in the FR. Well done!4
-
Been getting some fiverr requests recently. Had one to migrate two websites and email migration. Simple enough, accepted. Contract signed. Got sent the files and the SQL exports, the website is from the 90s. So I might as well ask if they need a website update after the migrations are done haha as the company is still pretty active.
-
You know your night is off to a great start when it takes you 30 minutes to remember VM's exist and can be really good for testing out display scaling... Well done Alex... Well done1
-
We had a meeting where all the devs on a large sprint team were told they must attend late that evening. The gist of that meeting was 'well done your all working hard and done some good work but we have over committed so work harder!" but they took an hour and a half to make the point.
-
The most important thing my mentor taught me was “ in an audit if the auditor asks ‘do you have the time?’ And you do simply respond ‘yes’” it done me well so far!2

Well done Samsung! There is nothing better than wake up in the morning just to find out that fucking VR Service ate 15% of the battery overnight.

Why so many people complain about Vim? Just drink Nuka Cola.
Anyway, my first scripts were done with edit, in MS-Dos...
Anyone who can't learn how to use a tool... Well there are so many IDEs...
Just use something else1 -
I'm in Europe and searched for a few spots along my route with Google maps app, the search results contained USA
well done Google.. maybe you need 10 000 new devs to fix that1 -
GitHub Actions. That is all.
Well, not really. Trying to convert a grunt script which we have packaging our WordPress plugins to be done as a GitHub action instead and I'm about to throw my machine out of the window.5 -
Our computer science GCSE exams are so flawed in so many ways. They're awfully vague or just completely wrong. In the last exam I did, I got a question that was basically:
"There is a server in a network. Name 3 of its functions"
If you did not provide an answer within the 5 "correct answers", it was considered incorrect as it was beyond the curriculum hence irrelevant.
That's like penalising people for not correctly guessing the contents of an opaque box...
I've genuinely lost more marks to the flaws in the marking scheme than genuine error.
Valve, pls fix2 -
Me: *What* is the process to do X in this environment? The link is not working. (Link available in only application 1)
Senior colleague: Through which application?
Me: *Mentions the full name of application 1*. Application 2 works as well.
SC: Yeah it can be done by application 2 as well.
Me: *waits*
*Okay, TELL ME FUCKING HOW!!! I asked for the process, not about its possibility.* -
Am I weird or is working in bars awesome?!
I mean I can never get any serious work done, but if I'm just routing PCBs; no better place to work than noisy bar at half capacity.
P.S. : Wouldn't have thought it, but KiCAD is a hit with the ladies!
P.P.S. : Well, the kind of ladies I'd like to talk to.1 -
!Rant (but for those few who keep on giving me upvotes)
First workout done today. How did it go? Really well. In fact, it went so well that I couldn't open the repurposed fire door (thick, heavy metal). -
I'm not sure if anyone besides me has ever done this. But I'm using git locally on my machine as a system restore of sorts for one of my programs. As well as a means to see what files are changing as i continue to use the program.

I just want to give a quick shout-out to the advertisers who were so quick to monetize a pandemic and pull on the heart strings for some PR value.
Well done, lads.2 -
Laravel Excel is shit and has shit documentation as well. PHPExcel may not be as pretty as a bunch of callbacks but it's more efficient and actually gets the job done.6

!rant about Codecademy:
I decided to go a short, higher-level JavaScript course with Codecademy to help me nail down a few concepts and approaches to writing JavaScript code.
It turned out to be one of the best courses I've done. It didn't cover everything in detail. It is free so I wasn't expecting that.
Still, the topics it covered, it covered pretty well, and the hand-holding approach really helped give me a much better grasp of these concepts and models.
Well worth the time!6 -
During a stand up meeting, boss turns up to us and says: "Who can stay later today?" Many hands rise. Turns up to new dude, who isn't performing that well: "that performance report automation, it is due tomorrow now. Fuck it. Get it done." Left at 21:30 from the office with an MVP but I usually arrive at 7:00 so I was fucking exhausted. Now, my question is: who am I supposed to be pissed off? The boss who went apeshit on the new dude or the new dude that isn't getting shit done?4
-
That time when you are taking about personal projects with other developers and their past frustrations come into the project discussion all of the sudden. Like, I just wanted to communicate about this great idea I got with other developers, not about how it cannot be done, or how someone else thinks I cannot get it done. I can stand this happening the first 1000 times, but not the next 10000 times.
I feel that this happens to other people as well, but there is just no talk about it anywhere.3 -
I saw this headline today: "Trending Technology - Google's new AI tool could help decode the mysterious algorithms that decide everything"
Basically, an AI tool to decode how other AI algorithms work...
Congratulations humanity... you done well.2 -
Unbelievable. 14 out of 16 runs of integration tests errors unexpectedly with no error message, port was already used (not released from last cycle) or timed-out in the before all hook. Well done whoever wrote this suite!

So reinstalled to learn React Native... and React as well while I'm at it. Can that be done or I would learn React and build a webapp with it first? (I don't want to build a webapp though...)
Also I want to target Android but seems all books target iOS... Are there any books for Android?
I'm just following the Facebook GitHub now.14 -
Had to fix some stuff in the documentation for my internship... boot up Windows in a VM to use Word, virtual machine crashes *twice* for no apparent reason, making me lose some unsaved progress and somehow all the pictures in the document got a read error.
Ah well, should be done with it now (:1 -
Our teacher has assigned us a project that should be well documented, well built, written in a language that he has no freaking idea how it works and the project should be Facebook rich with features, we are three members in a team and the project should be done in less than two months. How the hell should we deal with this freak?5

Perfectionism... I often refactor my code because I always see something that could be "done better" in my own work, which can slow me down if I'm not paying attention to my main task.
If I could stop time I would perfect my code all day, but that isn't realistic. 😂
Doesn't apply to dev work only, I've had to learn the art of not giving a shit about every single detail in many other disciplines. I just love getting things done really well. -
Everybody is bussy!
So let's going to give this mess to the one who never worked with mongo, does not know the objects in the DDBB, add to it some weird way to build queries in java to it and hope for everithing end well!
End well = need to be done today.
Guess what? Not for today! I have no clue of how to clean this shit.1 -
Well i fucking hate my life right now.. I had a running arch linux installation with i3 as my windows manager.. dont need a desktop environment.. i don't know what i've done but it doesnt boot anymore..
Guess i will reinstall it8 -
The longer I go at this job, the more I feel unqualified to be doing it!
My boss is giving all these really fascinating ideas and things to get done... but he's not really describing it well on how to do it... just to do it. My creativity is being tested...2 -
Estimate how long it will take you then double it. After that split the project into milestones and add the days you give a client to accept the milestone. If you have a good client you will get done early and refund them the difference. Otherwise you get paid well for dealing with a dumbass.
-
Virus scan is crippling my computer, can't deploy till it's done! Might as well be using ticker tape to deploy these reports to the server.
-
I just had a flashback to the good ole days of using HTML tables for website layouts. Tables within tables within tables were pretty ridiculous, but they really got the job done pretty well back then. It makes me think about how technology changes and a principle that was once so widely used is now almost completely obsolete.5
-
Well... best thing you could do is not limit yourself to one language and one area of programming. Experience and being better comes from exposing yourself to variety of programming areas and seeing how things are done there. :)

A project on hive....
Well the server has some error....
So i need to install hive on windows....
For that i need hadoop on windows...
For that i need either vmware or cygwin...
Done!
What was my project again?? -
Anyone here do much nativescript? I have never done any mobile dev but know angular quite well.
I'm trying to decide if it's worth jumping right into nativescript or taking my time to learn standard java and swift dev first to understand the underlying code... Then there's xamarin. Any advice?8 -
Email arrives, contains a list of deadlines AND descriptions of new features and changes to portal... all news to me, Really?! All for next month you say? Didn't we just assign a different project to the team? Did we replace the 50% who leave this week yet? no.... Well done project management... Slow clap for you guys.... It's so idiotic I'm not even mad...

Enterprise Architect after morning requirements session: "Well that is actually more simple than I thought. I don't think we'll need the full four days we have scheduled for this. What do you think."
Me: "Yeah, I don't think it will take four days."
*** Hours later right before end of day***
EA: "So how's it going?"
Me: "Pretty good... [details]..."
EA: "So are we still on track to be done by end of day tomorrow?"
Me: "Wait, what?"
EA: "You agreed it would be done in two days, remember?"
Me: "No, I don't remember that."
EA: "Yeah I asked if it could be done in two days and you said yes. Anyway, I'm heading out, just make sure it's done by end of day tomorrow."1 -
I write a hello world and then start importing libs and packages on top. Then I adapt the hello world to test those libs and packages. The entire thing is one big sanity check. The logic is done in increments as well.
Is this bad? -
We are supposed to make a portfolio in school explaining who we are and projects that we made. The only problem is that I have not done shit, the only thing that I've done that was only for the most part ripped from a tutorial (everything else might as well been copy pasted) was a calculator that barely works and looks like shit. So I just sat down for hours got nothing done and felt awful.
-
Just spent 30 minutes trying to work out how to do my dev terminals rendering in it's main for loop...
Only now just realised I should probably use 2 seperate for loops and rendering layers for the background and text... Well done dickhead -
When u are at page 8 of promotions of pc components, click on "see 100 products" and go to the first page 🤦

Network Support is the worst place to work in especially when you done all your work in the first hour. Also, when managers are pain in the ass.
Might as well call it a call centre rather than Service Desk -
Don't work with time, work with target, my father taught me that. It seems similar to don't stop when you are tired but when you are done!!!
Well that helped me when I started my dev career but over the years I had to be wise how I apply the rule so I don't have assholes sucking life out of me in disguise.1 -
I went home because I wasn't feeling well. Checked DevRant and apparently it was a good thing because I would have gotten nothing done without SO
-
Well, this eleventh hour, during-the-holidays change to buggy code to make it do something it's not designed to do is going like just about every other project like it has ever gone. Still not done. None of the programmer talent is available to work on it because it's at a time when everyone is traveling. And the third-party data provider is unreachable.
-
That feeling when you ask client something to make everything clear and just more questions appear...
-
Mark my name well. Laban oyusu. You're kids n family will read about me when im done with school.😏4
-
I love documentation and git stashes.
Old project haven't touched for months, now need to pick it been up again...
Well I left Mueller a nice doc that has all the rationale and project setup structure.
Also detailed notes about how to run certain things and what needs to be done.... Although lots of files
.. Didn't really cleanup before switching focus...
But better then nothing!!!1 -
Well...I can not post it here because I threatened him that I would post his non payment bullshit all over the internet and he would never get anything done by a freelancer again.
-
Well here i thought i would have done work...and pooof its time to go home
All i did was refactor with and make PR...
*SIGH*
I guess today was one of those days where little work was done -
Any advice for when ur managers don't do their job well and if u say something is not done right, then they will let u do it?
FFS im tired that shit not being done right but im not looking for doing their job for them while they get paid more and sit in facebook3 -
I thought BFQ (Kernel 4.12) should be faster on good old hdds. In fact, it is. I'm amazed. Well done. Unfortunately my machine freezes randomly every few hours. 🤔
-
Well, I'm done.
This amount of arrogance is unbelieveable.
I'd rather find a warm and friendly atmosphere.
But honestly, what are all these F bombs about?
Did I insult you? I said I was stuck in a Loop challenge in Js. Did this offend you?
If so, I'm sorry.11 -
Just something I've been thinking on for a while:
How could programming be done if we couldn't use ordinary if-statements (but functional set operations such as map, filter, with an if- in the lambda function etc. is alright).
Could it work? Also would it be possible to reduce the amount of while loops by using functions for most of the "loop situations" as well?4 -
"This is an easy task, call me when it's done"
5 months later
"well the test of senduser didn't pass"
Me: "this wasn't on the docu"
"oh, let me rewrite it" -
well... Fuck you ackermann and your damn interesting function!
Spent three hours searching for an error in rasoning but well... Who'd have guessed...
FUCK! I need to get my stuff done... Fuck! -
Well, I haven't done almost anything not dev related for the last 6 years, but I think the thing that helped me the most is gaming1
-
Is academia just a display of how well you can be a good cog in a system? I feel like I've done more admin work than development just to pass. Too far in to quit though.1

2 hours after resolving compatibility issues:
The following specifications were found to be in conflict:
- opencv==3.2.0 -> *[track_features=blas_openblas]
- opencv==3.2.0 -> harfbuzz=1.3 -> freetype[version='2.7|2.7.*'] -> libpng[version='>=1.6.22,<1.6.31']
- pillow==6.0.0
Well done for today. I'm going for a beer. Ah..almost forgot. Fuck you Anaconda and fuck you Python docs. -

Once again I'm honestly impressed with Joas at joaoapps.com bringing his new Join service to the Xbox.
You can now reroute your incoming messages, such as SMS and Whatsapp, to your Xbox and reply.
Well done sir, well done -
I need to integrate ChargeBee in our product.
They have .Net lib……… Based on fucking static config. Well, I’ll add 1 week to due date for rewriting their lib….
How can they even publicly suggest use of static configuration?
I didn’t even start this project and I feel that it will be one of most painful integrations I’ve done. -
Windows update been 27% done for a veery long tim... Ah... Now it was don... No, just restarted... 30% now... Hrmf... Not just annoying, it taunts me as well!
-
So i've not slept all night, come into work and my first mistake 1 hour in is migrating data from another project into a production database now i have redundant data and redundant tables, well done! fml

Hey guys college student here. This easter I'll be focusing on learning JavaScript better. Yeah I've done some stuff with js, some small spa with angularjs (1.0), as well as some stuff in combination with a template engine ,(like thymeleaf). Should I start learning typescript along with angular 2/4 or es6?2

I really like devRant's community. I just don't feel very well using the closed-source app, which is very well done and works nice, but I'd feel more comfortable using an open source app with a public repository that everyone can look at instead of a closed-source app with storage and location permissions access. Indeed I would be fine enough with a mobile version of the web app too, but it doesn't seem to be in devRant's developers plan. I've once seen someone creating its own devRant app. Is there any public APIs? Is someone already thinking about this?1
