On science and religion. Inspied by a comment in another rant, credits to @Commodore and @cjbatz
According to Godel's incompletness theorems, aritmetics is incomplete and inconsistent. Therefore, any science based on aritmetics (dude, like, every) is also.
Therfore, as a mathematician, I must accept that there are things that cannot be proven by current science, and that there are statements that are true and false at the same time in current science.
So, science can't prove religious beliefs? It cant prove P vs NP either. It might someday. Science couldn't prove earth wasn't flat for a looong time. Or Pythagoras theorem.
But more importantly, if science can prove something, doesn't mean it can't prove the exact oposite.
This way of thinking allows for any and all ridiculous beliefs, under the shield of "it might be proven one day" or "doent't mean opposite isn't true also" but kerp in mind that there are complete and consistent sciences and proofs in them. Check if something's been proven to exist or not exist without doubt.11 -
Since I became involved in backend dev, I do miss shaving.
Edit: which reminds me, I need to update my avatar.2 -
I don't swear while in office.
I don't swear while at home.
It takes me about an hour to get home, during that time tho ...6 -
Me: I need more programmers for the project.
Boss: You have 4 people, that's enough.
Me: I have 3 juniors taking 50% of time of a senior (me) contributing less than a medior and rest of my time goes to managing project. I know that in 6 months time invested in them will start paying off, but right now I need more people. Also I don't have me, by that logic, cleaning lady comes to the office every day and we couldn't work witout her, so there's 5 people, at least.
Boss: You'll manage.
Inner me: I would if I was working 8 hours as programmer without tutoring and managing.
Me: Sigh.3 -
You! Yes you.
I'm sure you know a lot of things I don't, even tho I have a pretty decent education and job.
Universal justice wouldn't be that I get fired and you get my job. You getting a (better) job would be universal justice.
So I wish you best of luck.1 -
One day a week should be for improving the quality of the code, not just bugfixing and rushed implementation of new features.

So I have to install chromium because line isn't available for linux...
Line is far east messaging/social app, and new customers use it.6 -
As a POC I removed all client specifics from a project and made it reusable. Thousands of lines of code. In a day. From a project I knew nothing about in a language I previously used only in school. And it compiled and ran in the end.
Ripping out so much useless code felt great, possibly as good as creating something new, fresh, innocent. I improved on performance and maintenability and found some errors in the process.
After a successfull POC it was time to do it properly. That was a nightmare. A horror movie you want to see through. In the end I felt even better.5 -
For current project, client provided us with ui design and postman collections and expects us to build application based on that. I'm currently onsite, working from client's offices, trying to communicate what each api does and what they expect. And they're fucking avoiding me. Roll eyes if meeting lasts more than a fuckin hour. Laugh when we point out inconsistencies in tgeir design.
The fug? You're paying us to do the job. We don't fucking care, it won't be finished till you provide enough information.2 -
Life is good when you're responsible only for your task, code you write.
While i had souch a beautiful life, I could come to wrk, make coffe, magic and be happy. Sometimes it would be fast, sometimes slow. Sometimes I had to learn before implementing, sometimes I just needed to code it down. I had working hours. I had only TL and client to deal with.
If you dislike working with your collegues, imagine being responsible for their work and feel good.1 -
Collab with a friend: I finish my part of the work and realize that they aren't going to finish their.
